CICO isn't a "method"...it is simply the energy equation that governs weight management. You consume more calories than you require, that surplus energy will be stored as body fat. You consume fewer calories than you require and you burn body fat (stored energy) to reconcile that energy deficiency.
Fasting is merely a method of controlling calories in (CI).18 -
ALL weight loss comes down to a calorie deficit. Taking in fewer calories than maintenance results in weight loss. There is no "magic" to Dr. Fungs method. If you like eating this way, then do that.
For some people restricting their eating "window" helps them restrict their calories. For other people it doesn't.
Dr Fung isn't generally held in the highest regard here.14 -
There is no anything vs CICO to lose weight. Fasting is just another method of creating a deficit.
Fat is surplus energy stored on your body. To use it, your body must be in a deficit.
There are many avenues to create a deficit. Fasting, increased fasting, time restricted eating are among them.
Fasting in any form and counting calories are not mutually exclusive. In fact, counting calories, if done accurately, is the surefire method to make sure you are not eating too much which is possible even with fasting.
Reading Fung is a waste of time.
Also, CICO is not counting calories. CICO is an energy equation that you can use to gain, maintain, or lose weight.13 -

(There are lots of other methods.)

I lost 50+ pounds in less than a year, at age 59-60, while severely hypothyroid (treated), without materially changing my exercise or daily life activity routines; and have maintained a healthy weight for over 5 years since (after 3 previous decades of obesity) . . . by calorie counting. I eat pretty much the same foods I always ate, but in different portions, proportions, frequencies, to hit a calorie goal and get good nutrition, while eating food I enjoy, on a schedule that's practical and sating for me. FWIW, I'm now age 65, 5'5", around 125 pounds.
It's not the right method for everyone, but it worked great for me.14 -

Ahh the Fung is back....... Ok OP. Dr. Fung is a nephrologist, not a weight loss doctor. You want to see a REAL weight loss doctor? Look up Spencer Nadalsky. I guess he figured out how to cure obesity and diabetes. When I read the blog, I was made aware that he has now figured out how to cure cancer. For Frucks sake man! While I agree that refined carbohydrates in a ad libitum food environment has helped contribute to some of our weight problems, added fats have done as much if not more. The problems with added sugars are that:1.people over consume them passively because they lack satiety. 2. They are combined with fats to make hyperpalatable foods people over eat on.9 -
If fasting puts you in a calorie deficit you'll lose weight.6

In this video Dr Fung just put out a few days ago at 1:50 he says "Losing weight with calorie counting fails". Also at 6:00 "Why calorie counting doesn't work". I mean how can you take a person seriously that puts out ridiculous statements like this as a fact?7 -

It can help with that.
But while Fung may use that tactic sometimes, he doesn't in the link, nor was that a reason stated for asking.
Just like low carb/keto can be a medical help for some with specific issues - but it's not the only or guaranteed method of weight loss that some zealots proclaim it to be.6 -
I see Fung has found another way to try to monetise fat people.....
My experience is that when I cut calories I lose weight (counting calories helped enormously with that), when I eat around maintenance calories I maintain (like I have for the last 7 years) and when I overeat I gain weight.
I used a version of intermittent fasting to help make it easier for me to adhere to my calorie allowance while calorie counting and losing weight but it was the reduction in calories that caused me to lose fat.4 -
My experience of calorie cutting as my primrary means of weight loss - worked fine and then maintained fine for following 7 years.
Of course everyone who loses weight does so by calorie cutting - but I assume what you meant was calorie counting.4 -
Weight loss is ALWAYS about eating less calories than your body burns. No matter how it’s packaged or promoted.5

Paleo isn't really a thing anymore (actually that had probably died off before you left), but otherwise, yeah...
Paleo kinda morphed into Keto/Carnivore... lol
Paleo was based on silly claims (which of course Nony is the expert at debunking), but at least the actual diet included (even encouraged) veg and fruit and sweet potatoes (and in later years made its peace with potatoes and sometimes even rice), so of course it got replaced by the carnivore trend (I think keto started being popular at the same time as paleo and has lasted).0 -

as I recall, it seemed to be based on what variant of Paleo one was pushing.
It is not surprising that Paleo morphed into Keto/Carnivore as most of the Paleo folks seemed to be Keto advocates; or at least heading in that direction..1
