What exercise/program defines BORING for you?

Not a fan of steady state cardio. I'll lift anything heavy any day of the week, but tell me I have to go for a long walk or run I'm not interested. I love HIIT type cardio.

On the treadmill or rower I can watch a show but usually choose YouTube to spin, do yoga or circuit training.
Y'know, I think this is something bizarre about my brain**, but I can't watch TV while rowing machining.
Music, podcasts, audio only: Fine.
Add video, and I lose focus on technical details and groove in bad habits that will bite me come Spring, when back in a boat (where bad technique can easily turn rowing into swimming, Not A Good Thing especially in open water in Michigan in Spring, because cold, maybe even ice chunks at first).
** To make my point explicit: I'm not criticizing you! It's me that's weird. I'm actually envious of you.

It's not the watching that suffers, it's the rowing that suffers.
One year, I let myself get way behind on the C2 Holiday Challenge, and had to do some 20K days to finish (not 20k without a break, but still a tedious amount of volume). So, I watched movies. The movies were swell. The rowing gradually slid in the direction of s*ck.
I fall back into bad habits that I'd previously laboriously mostly broken, like opening the body angle a little too soon, or not getting my heels down fast enough, or a bit too much layback, or . . . . !
Something about the visual stimulus is too absorbing or distracting, and I start to lose focus on the tiny details of technique. I can't afford that. Audio is fine. I just see at higher volume than I hear, brain-wise, I guess. 🤷♀️1 -

I like some indoor stationary exercises, but hate stationary biking. It is boring AND hurts my behind.4

Yes and yes!
Even with exactly the same saddle and riding position indoor cycling is a PITA after a short time - missing the rocking motion you get when riding outdoors apparently.
With good music I can tolerate an hour or a little more indoors for my technical (mostly interval) training but need to put in some standing cycling for saddle relief. Very much training for results and not exercise for enjoyment though.1 -
kshama2001 wrote: »For those of you bored by yoga, have you tried the "power" yoga types? Ashtanga?
I need constant motion to stay engaged and interested. Unless there is some form of yoga with an activity level roughly equivalent to aerobic dance class, it has zero appeal for me. Plus, given limited time for working out, I need to get an effective cardio bang for my exercise buck.
I have to admit that I find the music and being told when/how to breathe super annoying too.6 -
Any intense indoor exercise. Less intense indoor exercise like walking, I can watch tv and completely forget im walking for a few hours. But when im doing intense exercise like my treadclimber, i can barely focus on the tv. I usually have to listen to music to get through it. NFL or UFC i can watch and get into the exercise, but those shows are only on once a week so only get a good intense workout on those days.1

My wife LOVES Peloton classes but I find those incredibly boring, and most of the instructors annoying. I almost regretted buying a spin bike for indoor cycling, but I recently found Zwift and am really digging it. Gives new life to the bike for me, and is a completely different experience from the Peloton-style classes. Ride on!

I hate lifting weights - I am one of those odd people who really likes running on the treadmill. I also find the indoor bike boring but I am stuck with that now instead of running because my knee is shot.6

Spin class made me want to light my hair on fire to make it interesting.1

All of them.5

running, outside or on a treadmill. i prefer walking and being able to look around. i dont use any music when i'm outside so i can be aware of my surroundings so it's just boring. i like walking and looking at scenery lol Yoga seems boring too.0

Another vote here for (against?) indoor cardio. I get on the elliptical (reluctantly) once or twice a week for crosstraining purposes. I only get on the treadmill if the weather is absolutely horrendous and running outdoors would be truly bad. Even then I prefer running in a slight drizzle over the treadmill.
I often wish I had access to some type of VR technology which would make it feel like I was running or elliptical-ing outdoors, preferably in some beautiful landscapes I'm not able to experience otherwise. Right now I'm just stuck watching Youtube during those indoor workouts.0 -
Weight lifting
I could do hours of indoor cardio. I study, read articles, watch youtube or netflix, listen to music, browse social media, get work done, etc.0 -
Running. Not even sure why, I can happily walk for hours, but running just bores me to death.3

One time I tried to work out to a Denise Austin show. That one bored me to death as well. I liked Bodyshaping when it was on ESPN. Lol, then I just watched Kiana's Flex Appeal just to watch her workout.

Low-weight, high-rep resistance training. 4 sets of 20 reps of something? 20 reps of something where you have to do right and left sides SEPARATELY? Just shoot me.8

New one. REBOUNDING. I can go to Rock 'n Jump and trampoline there for an hour with my kid. But rebounding for an hour....................................meh.

Treadmill.
I just can’t get “into” it and find I’m fighting a bored brain the whole time (which drags soooo slowly).
Which is odd, because I actually like “real” running and using an indoor bike. But the treadmill? Big fat NO!2 -
All steady state cardio except skating and jumping rope. Cardio machines are really boring.0

It was so boring when I was on an indoor treadmill, and i never felt motivated to keep at it. I love night time and being alone when walking so gyms were a huge anxiety for me with such fit people around me. So i started walking at night, outside, listening to music. I moved to a really safe neighborhood and so now I can walk outside without anyone around and time just flies by! Also I got a compact rowing machine and it's easy to pick up so I now watch a whole tv episode while rowing! I love rowing so much better than just walking on the treadmill. I alternate walking outside with rowing indoors and I think I found my routine that I can actually stick to.
Also in the winter, I can dress like a Babushka and no one will care how I look, since I'm alone 🤣 🤣 🤣1 -
Here is what I can think of off the top of my head:
1.) Treadmill (or elliptical or really anything similar). If the only exercise I could ever do was a treadmill then I just wouldn't do it. Music or podcasts don't help...all I do is watch the clock. I'd rather just pace up and down the hallway at home or march in place while I'm working.
2.) Weight lifting...might be better with a trainer perhaps, but doing it by myself. I'd rather watch paint dry.
3.) Running...its boring and it makes me hate my life whole I'm doing it,, so I don't. I will be taken down quickly in the zombie apocalypse and I've made peace with that.0 -

I love the elliptical, but hate the stationary bike. You are not alone in haying only certain stationary exercise machines.2 -
Steady state cardio 👎👎👎0
-
The Dreadmill isn't too bad for me AS LONG as I'm running intervals on it. If it's just to walk on....................................................................................boring as hell.

With the current lockdown in the Netherlands, I have to do it with those resistance bands.. bores me to death2

for me walking or jogging a track is the absolute definition of boring! I could probably do 6 miles in the woods or on city streets more easily than 2 miles on an oval track, meh.2

i hate schedules ... to the bone i hate them which is why im so inconsistent ..i have always been a spontaneous person . i get bored with routine0

The ultimate boring exercise is swimming laps, something I did for hrs a day in my youth.
It wins the grand prize because of the extreme sensory deprivation, no sound or TV to distract.2
