Does anyone else need to see pictures to *believe* they did it

I have been maintaining for about two yrs now.
I still need to see those before and afters to really *see* it. Maybe that is because there was no finish line like I had envisioned. I am still working on goals. I lift heavy. And I have strength goals. But I still don't think of myself as a *fit* person who has *done * anything.
Anyone else needs reminders of what you have done?

For sure, especially when loss is fast
Brain will adjust over time and slowly start seeing you *closer* to where you're at.
For many who have lost a lot of weight, I suspect that a mirror or picture (esp. before/after pictures) will remain a useful cross reference.
I would say that a year or two after losing most of my weight I would still occasionally (but no longer daily) check whether my second leg was going to fit in the tiny pants I was holding! Fast forward a bit and it has been years since I've done that.

Yeah. My bff smacks me when I shop with her because I still go to grab larger sizes. I know realistically that I have been wearing 2's and 4's for a couple yrs now but I still mean towards the 12's... It's such a mind trip.3 -
I have lost 80lbs and when I look at pictures from then, I just can’t believe that I did that to myself. I was afraid of the hard work it was going to take, and I just ate more. Truth is, it has been hard work and will continue to be, but my quality of life is light years better than it was.8

Damn, girl! Nice gams!!!!
Yes, 1000%. Sitting down, I feel chunky, stomach-y, spread-y and thick. In the mirror, I see gut, baggy skin and flaws.
Photographs make my head snap. I don’t even recognize myself.
I have a hard time looking at them. I feel so vain doing so, and it makes me a little physically ill, though I don’t know why. My trainer sends me photos and videos after every session. I have to force myself to look at them. A lot of times, I just don’t.
It’s almost like my brain doesn’t want to connect the dots and be proven wrong.5 -
Well damn check those legs!! You look incredible.
Yeah I sometimes look back at my old pictures and then in the mirror and am dumbfounded that I was once that person and am now the me I am now. I struggle to recognise myself as either.5 -
I always avoided mirrors and photos, and even after significant weight loss, I still mostly do. But the best reminders that I'm in this new, for real body is when I try on clothes: getting into a size small shirt or size 4 pants is shocking in the best way. It makes clothes shopping so much fun (though, uh, maybe I have replaced the binge eating with binge shopping now?).6

I just look in the mirror and weigh myself daily.4

yes I keep a before and after picture in my phone and look at it every once in a while to remind me.3

Amazing!!! You are gorgeous!! And yes idk when it ever won’t feel surreal!4

I totally need reminders especially now that I've been maintaining for 10 years. I look back regularly when I feel bloated or that I'm looking chunky.

You look amazing, and I'm jealous of your legs !
Honestly, no matter what weight I don't really like looking at pictures of myself and am usually quite critical no matter the size, so seeing pictures doesn't really help. When I look in the mirror, some days I think I look pretty good, and other days I focus on my flaws. I know that I am smaller than I once was, and that part I don't need a picture or mirror to believe it.3 -

What a difference 2 years make. I feel awesome I can actually cross my legs.11

You look great, @WandRsmom!
Honestly, for a while after weight loss, some photos didn't even do it for me. I couldn't see it. Now (5 years later), looking at the same photos, the problem was all in my brain. The difference was there. Brains are weird!10 -
I'm in maintenance 7 years and its really only when I see photos of myself that I see I'm slim - I think with being overweight for years my head still thinks I'm the curvy girl I used to be.5

@mpkpbk2015 WOW!!!!!! Respect!!!!2

It's 2 yrs maintaining for me and I totally agree, brains are weird. I know I am super strong now ,I do things I couldn't do before and my clothes are much smaller ..yet . Haha. I still see a heavier me. So weird.2 -

She says she's wearing size 2/4 now. Good grief! We need not all be *ultra*-thin to be healthy, and I say that as someone who prefers to be on the light end of the normal BMI range herself. OP looks strong and healthy to me.10 -

I lift heavy and carry a lot of muscle. I think perhaps you may be seeing fat on my face and breasts and assuming a lot, which I understand as I do have a found face . I measure at 27.5 inch waist 36.5 bust and just went up to 36 hip.
I am 5'9 and stay around 155-165. I don't really believe in weight as a deciding factor health. In fact I was smaller weight wise for awhile but my measurements were actually bigger and I didn't feel nearly as good.
As for stopping I mean I didn't say I was stopping anything. I haven't stopped a thing my goals are more strength focused at this time.
But, yes as pointed out above I am a size 2/4 down form a 14/16. I have lost around 100lbs.
Your comments are what makes it hard for women who are strong not *skinny* accept themselves. I would be careful with that.21 -

Thank you. I will never be a zero and that OK with me.8 -

Wow. This is such a strange and totally unsolicited comment that wasn't even relevant to the original post. I thought this was supposed to be a community of support. I'm of the philosophy that it's not appropriate to tell someone they still look like they could lose a few pounds, especially when they look awesome and look strong and healthy ((i.e., not overweight.
OP, I still think you look amazing and wish I had your legs!10 -

That was a snarky *kitten* comment from someone who doesn’t even have a profile pic.
@WandRsmom is an absolute success story.
I sincerely wish @tacolover10231989 well with their weight loss efforts, but jeez, let’s support one another here. There’s enough people outside MFP willing to tear us down.10 -

Very true. And I didn't mean for the skinny to be seen as bad, either to clarify.
But I mean, no I am not tiny. I get that. But I am also quite OK with it.6 -

@WandRsmom you look fabulous!! I'm still very a much an "in progress"... sometimes I see myself now in the mirror and I am totally shocked, other times I see pictures of the start of my journey and I am totally shocked by that! I wonder what its going to be like when I continue towards the "after"
Side note, as someone that is similar in height (5'10), I can't even imagine myself in 2/4, my brain just can't process that thought... I have no idea what size I'll end up in, but I think regardless, shopping for clothes is gonna get weird for me haha.
Congrats on all of your hard work and success!5
