30 pounds to lose challenge by March 2021

This morning was a big disappointment for me weight wise, but I am continuing on my journey...
I've been working on increasing the distance I can walk. All of January, I walked usually a quarter mile or a half mile. On January 31st, I walked a mile and a half! Then first week of February, I walked 0.75-1.5 miles per walk. This past week, I walked 2 miles 3 times. And today, I walked 3.1 miles (5 km)! I'm stoked about that (although I had to ice my knees and hips afterward). I'm preparing for my gym's Spring Sprint 5k run/walk on March 20th, and today I had to see if I could go the distance.
I'd prefer to be continuing with the 2 lbs/week loss I had during my first 6 months, but I will have to accept whatever loss I can get. I know my exercising is yielding results, so I'm not giving up. I'm looking forward to being able to swim again, because that exercise really works for me.
We have to roll with the punches when we stumble, and get back on the horse (to mix metaphors ).
Good luck to all!12 -

Feeling a little lighter. You know how you can tell that you feel a little bit trimmer. I am feeling it.
So, now lost 10 pounds since this challenge started Dec. 1st. I may not get to 30 lbs, well I won't, but I may get to 15 pounds lost by then. I am not giving up!
Summer is a few months away and I hate being the chubby friend in shorts!!

@frankwbrown I applaud you. You are walking more and that helps the mind, body and spirit. I understand how if you push too much your body hurts. I was lightly jogging around my house last night and my knee started to ache, so I stopped. Back to walking I think. Keep up the good work. Ice that knee and don't push it too much.4

Tomorrow I will be at the end of the StepBet challenge on that app. I walked for six weeks straight over 9000 steps each day (one day a week rest). And by the end of the challenge I was walking about 10000-11000 steps a day.
Anyway, I will win a little bit of money from the pot. But the actual benefit was more about feeling trimmer and I can say that I do feel trimmer.
I am going to enroll in another 6 week challenge on the app. You pay into a pot and then after you meet the six week step goals, you get a little extra money back. It's really a rip off but the benefit for me is that it gets me off my couch every evening after work, because I know I have to get those steps in.
David Muir and I spent time walking (he's the ABC news evening new guy). I walk during his news show as I listen.8 -
2 days in a row of not staying on track... I want to stay on top of this and not have a couple days turn into a week, 2 weeks, etc. Love this group for a daily check in and reset to remind me today is a new day! One decision at a time. Have a great Friday!

I've been struggling myself...I wonder if it's the cold and all the restrictions?! Keep going...you got this!6 -

So, for lunch, I ate a hard boiled egg and fresh pressed vegetable juice (carrot, apple, celery) at a juice place.
This Weekend, I am meeting with my neighbor who is going to share more about her success with Keto. Then, I'll evaluate if that would work for me.
@kwgrandma Bravo! Making great progress!
WTG!!!! That's fantastic!!!!5 -

Frank, I'm right there with you...I've walked 29 miles this week and ate less than my daily allowance and gained 2 pounds. The only thing different is, I got my first covid-19 shot this week...not sure if that's it or not...I'm hoping it's just water gain...Hang in there, I'm with you...7 -

Interesting. Coincidentally, I got my first covid-19 shot just over two weeks ago, and my weight has been a pound or more heavier than it was that morning before my shot. I'm due for my 2nd shot on Thursday the 18th.
Whether it's something physiological or psychological, I've been struggling a bit these past two weeks.
Another possibility: My gym acquired an InBody BIA scale which I used on Jan 25th and again just yesterday. You have to take these devices with a grain (or shaker) of salt, but it says I gained 4.7 lbs of muscle mass between scans. I have been doing strength training, but that gain seems optimistic. So, I'm not sure what's going on, but I know I have to keep going.

I am not doing well with this at all. It's icy as can be here and treacherous so I have not had my walks which also affects my mood in a negative way. Plus I am having a colonoscopy in a couple days and the new (well new since the last time I had one) recommendation is you eat low fiber starting at least 5 days prior. When I looked on the list of forbidden foods...well it is everything you would eat to be healthy. No seeds or nuts, no whole grain breads or crackers, no fruit or vegetable with seeds including cucumbers and tomatoes....zilch. No berries of any kind for the same reason. You are permitted white bread and rice, chicken and other lean meats, cheese, grits, yogurt without fruit etc. Cottage cheese. I dubbed it the white diet. It's actually quite bland and boring and not having fiber to fill me up makes me eat all day.
On a personal note I would like to add the reason I scheduled my procedure is my 65 year old brother in law went 7 years without one. They did it and found he is filled with cancer, starting in the colon and spread. He has probably weeks to live. This man is thin, never drank or smoked, grows his own vegetables etc. It is really heartbreaking. He did all the right things but he is filled with regret for not getting it at the 5 year mark. Would it have mattered? Who knows. Anyway, please get this very important procedure done if you have put it off. Peace, Jen

@JenT304. You are going through a lot. Sorry to hear about your brother in law. Give yourself some grace for a few days. The ice will melt, the pre-colonoscopy restrictions are temporary and you will be able to resume your good habits soon. In the mean time, take care.7

@JenT304 I'm so sorry to hear about your brother in law. It is very understandable that under stressful conditions like you are facing, there will be a struggle. This is very normal and by going for the procedure, this is a very positive step to make. Hugs to you and your family.6

Lost 90% of my Challenge goal!
(21.7 lbs out of 24lbs)
If I reach my Challenge goal, I will start a bonus round to see how close I can get to losing 30 lbs. Who knows - maybe I can lose 30 lbs before the end of March?

You and your family have my deepest sympathy.
Cancer has affected my family as well, but thankfully not terminally. My mother and sister both had it, and my younger brother more recently had prostate cancer. Fortunately for him, it was diagnosed early when he had a PSA test. He had treatment and so far he's in the clear, although some permanent tissue damage has resulted in ongoing discomfort for him. It is extremely important for men to have a PSA test periodically, as it can indicate possible prostate cancer earlier than a normal prostate exam.
I had a cancerous polyp around 10 years ago. Again, fortunately, due to early detection, the cancer was only at the tip of the polyp and was caught before it could spread. I've had several colonoscopies since, with no further problems, and I'm scheduled for one next month. I'm not looking forward to the lime Jello.

This past week was a little ‘meh’ for me but rather than focusing on that, here’s the big picture. Since this challenged started, I’m down 8.4 lbs. I’ve exercised at least 30 min (usually more) everyday, I comfortably ran 10km on Saturday, I am actually drinking water, I started strength training and I’ve made big improvements in meal planning and logging. These habits are making me stronger and healthier. I feel better mentally and physically than I have in a long time.

@JenT304 I’m sorry to hear about your brother in law. I have a colonoscopy scheduled for next month, too. I was due last Feb, right when they quit doing procedures. Wasn’t sure when they started doing them in the fall, then my Gyn suggested waiting a little bit since the vaccines were coming. Hoping I haven’t waited too long.6

I met with my neighbor; she and her mom lost 60 pounds on Keto for one year. I am giving it a try! I went grocery shopping today; I remember doing Atkins 15 years ago and I loved it once I got used to it.
I need a plan and program, so this may work for me. I'll let you know!

On TikTok I am finding and enjoying lots of recipe ideas!
One more note: I finished 6 weeks of that Step Bet app contest. I think I'll win my $40 back plus about $15 more. And I lost about 5 pounds. Win Win, I guess.
p.s. I joined another 6 week challenge. It will take me right up to my Florida vacation; I'm going alone for the first time on vacation and looking forward to it! I hope to lose ten pounds by then.
p.s.s Being a teacher, I will be getting my vaccine this month and next so I'll be vaccinated before I go on vacation.8 -
Had a BLAST with the family yesterday. Finally warmed up enough to spend some time outdoors. We spent the day on the lake ice fishing and snowshoeing. Hit the pillow pretty hard last night. 😀8
