M&Ms and salad

60% of my calories today were M&Ms and the rest was salad and I stayed under my calorie goal. I’m not bragging, just thought it was kinda funny. I learned I’m not good at moderation but am testing the calorie counting theory

Pretty sure the calorie theory will work. Not as sure about the appetite blowback from that menu, in terms of longer-term compliance, but experiments can be fun 😆.
I have a pretty good idea that the "nutrition is important" theory is correct, but of course one day is not the determinant.
Lemme grab some popcorn, it will be interesting to see whether this works out (I like M&Ms, too, but I'll let you run that experiment for both of us, K? 😉).20 -
Unfortunately I can’t see my self repeating. There’s no way I’m buying the shareable size again thinking I can be responsible with it in the house. However I did basically tell myself that I made the bed and now I have to sleep in it. So I’m a little proud of that.20

It's ok as long as you didn't spill the M&Ms into your salad like croutons and eat it anyway with a balsamic dressing. If that happened, you need help and you were wise not to inform us of such depravity. But as long as you ate them separately, no harm no foul. 🙂18

M&Ms on salad was why I clicked on this thread!
Anyway sometimes I have dessert instead of dinner if I’ve been craving a certain dessert which won’t fit my calorie goals. I’m diabetic so my “desserts” are pretty macro-balanced and generally healthy, but it can seem kinda weird. It works though! And the other day I did the opposite, my family had a big fancy salad with Easter dinner and I didn’t get enough of it, so later when my husband had dessert I had a giant bowl of salad for dessert. It works out!9 -
I have put m&ms on salad9

How can you tell how long somebody has been hiking? Drop an M&M on the trail. If they started this morning they'll walk past it. If they're thru hiking, they'll eat the M&M, then start scratching at the ground trying to find more.21

I’ve been trying to come up with ways of eating vegetables that don’t make me puke, M&M’s might be the answer I’m looking for!TBH, M&M’s as a salad topping sounds like an honestly possible solution.
(On a serious note, pregnancy is definitely not all fun and glow. Some part of me is desperately screaming for vegetables, or anything fresh, while my stomach threatens revolt at the thought and smell.)16 -
Calorie deficit is the way weight is lost. If you’re under your calorie goal, it works. Your body doesn’t know where, or care, where the calories come from. A professor of nutrition lost weight eating only Twinkies, and other junk food.
Seems like you did well moderating total calorie intake. It works. Not recommended long term though, puts good nutrition, and health at risk.9 -
Once every couple or few weeks, I go most of the day on very very little calories only so I can indulge in a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
The last week that I did that, I still lost. Sustainable or smart? Oh heck no. But every once in awhile isn't going to make a big difference. And if it fills a craving or need, well then.......

This thread made me curious. Yes, there is in fact a M&M salad.

I have made similar decisions because I have ZERO self control when it comes to M&Ms...sometimes sacrifices are made for them5 -
I have put m&ms on salad
Someone disagreed with the fact that I have actually placed a number of M&M's (not peanut M&M's) on my salad?
I have put m&m's on salad
I have put m&m's on salad
Disagree all you want but
STILL, I've physically placed innocent little m&m's on top of a salad and then dug my fearsome teeth into them and consumed them!
People put dried grapes on salad, which is ALSO something I've done!
People put dried cranberries that have been dipped in sugar and had a passing acquaintance with oil on salad which is ALSO something I've done!
I have put prunes on my salad after they were pitted, shriveled, lightly oiled, and shoved in a sealed package that was shipped across the continent.
And apples both local and imported from New Zealand both with and without a copious amount of wax.
But not applesauce: I have standards, you know?
I've even put yogurt on my salad.
Deal with it.
It's a SALAD!!!!22 -

What kind of dressing did you use with the M&M salad? Also what kind of salad was it. I think many people think of salad as very traditional, having lettuce tomato, carrots, etc.1 -

Me too. It's yummy and has a lot of protein. There are plenty of healthier choices but there are worse ones too.5 -
Now I don't feel quite so bad about the days I have eaten too much chocolate and chips and had to skip dinner.3

Many people miss out on fun experiences by not being willing to experiment.
That's speaking generally. M&M salad doesn't appeal to me. (I rarely put sweet things in my salad, at least nothing sweeter than aged balsamic, which I admit is pretty sweet, sweetness generally is not my favorite flavor theme.) It still seems like a reasonable experiment for someone who does like sweets in salad, as PAV evidently does.
People, people: Experiment with food. It's fun. What's the worst that could happen? Momentary yuck. What's the best that could happen? Revelations about pleasure.
P.S., I'm not saying that you, Thoin, are a non-experimenter. I'm simply responding to your comment about many people (unimaginatively?) sticking with (boring?) traditions.
P.S.S. Someone disagreed that PAV put M&Ms on his salad, then someone (the same person?) disagreed with my obvious joke about it. Yup, some grumpy disagree-er is at work in this thread; there are too many instances to be accidental scrolling disagrees. They could use their words to explain on the thread, maybe don't because they know we'd just laugh.11
