COVID vaccine water weight gain?
Replies

...I lost about 2lbs of water weight 2 days after my second vaccine, but I also spent the previous day (so first day after) asleep.
Basically I LOST water weight.0 -
Received shot two yesterday morning. I blatantly ignored sound medical advice and popped 800mg of Ibuprofen two hours before my shot. Bad me!
Two hours after, I did my regular 30 minute cardio workout on the rebounder, adding much more arm movement than I usually do to increase blood-flow in my shot arm. Drank nearly 3 liters of water throughout the day. Had no side-effects at all. Stepped on the scale this morning - no change. But that I remained in deep calorie deficit yesterday (1050 calories) - staying at the same weight might technically be a slight gain? Not concerned.
And before anyone loses their mind, yes, I will be eating more today. 😋1 -

You're a rebel and I love it.
I'm more worried about the covidy flu like symptoms after the second shot. Did I mention this is taking place a week before a big deadline???4 -
Combo of things.
My weight went up 5 lbs last week and finally returned back to within a couple lbs of normal today. Checked Libra, the gain started right after my first Moderna shot. Never thought to put any of it together until seeing this thread. 🤔
Plus geting heavy butt length braids. 😉3 -

I actually giggled out loud at the braids bit.
At one point when I was in the depths of weight loss Hell, I tried to figure out the weight of my waist-length hair. The struggle is real.4 -

I have 4 packs of extensions, each about 150 grams, on my head. Plus I feel noticeable weight. Gotta count for something, lol! 😆2 -

my best friend came out of menopause after her first pfzier. she did some research to find out if that was the reason, and i guess this is something that is happening to some women. so obv a hormone effect so yeah, maybe that also explains the weight gain.0

Well, no - the weight gain people are talking about is temporary water weight.
Have not heard of any vaccines making people go in or out of menopause - how on earth could they do that??
Do you have a link to this research?3 -

Some post-menopausal women have apparently reported bleeding or spotting after the vaccine: https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/researchers-looking-into-link-between-covid-vaccine-and-menstruation/2495593/
Of course, this is very different than prompting a person to come "out of menopause." Just because you are bleeding or spotting doesn't mean that menopause has been reversed (not telling you so much as letting others reading the thread know).
The article also mentions that pre-menopausal women may also experience some spotting or breakthrough bleeding after the vaccine. I personally experienced this, but since it's something that sometimes happens to me anyway (I'm guessing I'm perimenopausal), I am not confident it has anything to do with the shot.4 -
Thanks for that link, I'd not heard anything about that. Interesting.
Remains at the 'potentially a possible connection ' stage - or possibly not, depending what controlled studies show.
And, yes, clearly not ' coming out of menopause'.

Had my second shot today (Pfizer) and my arm is noticeably sorer this time around than it was the first time. The injections themselves weren't bad at all; I was expecting more of a "pinch." I too was advised it was no problem to take painkillers and I'm definitely taking advantage of that.1

Mine is May 11th. I'm curious to see if you develop the covid after effects and how long it took after the shot.1 -
/I had my second Pfizer on Sunday and had no loss on Monday (weigh in day) but that may be unrelated. I had a 11 week gap as dictated in the UK. Side effects were just sore arm and a bit tired.
Also to pick up on an earlier mention, I have a few friends who had an early period/breakthrough bleeding after their vaccine. Strange !0 -

It's funny you mention that; I actually woke up in the middle of the night after my last dose of acetaminophen had worn off and I had major chills even though it was a really warm night. I'm much more tired than usual today but still functional. Arm is still a little bit sore, but not as bad as it felt at 3am.2 -

My wife and daughter both had the same symptoms after their second doses - lethargy, general feelings of 'not quite right', etc. After my second shot, my arm was sore for a couple of days (but not any worse than any other shot I have received in the past) but that was the extent of any reaction that I had.1 -

My coworker had the second shot in the morning and by midafternoon(?) was feeling flu like. He was tired and felt feverish.0 -

Same here with one of my coworkers. He has his second dose of Moderna yesterday, and called off today because of low grade fever and aches.0 -
I didn't gain any weight, but I was so bloated yesterday! I ate lunch around noon before my appointment, and then I had to force myself to eat a small dinner around 8pm. I'm lucky that I'm not having to work right now, but if I had a job I'd ask for a few days off. And if I had a husband, I'd ask him to take a few days off to take care of me, haha! I had a fever and lightheadedness driving home afterwards and it lasted for about an hour. Then had really bad side effects that kept me awake all night. I'm starting to feel better now, though. It was nothing so bad that I regret getting vaccinated, and I admit to being a bit of a baby when it comes to any sort of muscle pain, etc.dragon_girl26 wrote: »This is purely a curiosity question....but did anyone else experience a water weight gain when receiving the vaccine? I got my first dose Wednesday, and the next day I had a 3 lb jump on the scale! Since then I've been up about 2 lbs. I'm not fretting about it..I just thought it was interesting and wondered if anyone else noticed something similar!

The good news is that today I'm pretty much back to normal! I went to bed yesterday in the middle of the afternoon and slept on and off until this morning.2 -
dragon_girl26 wrote: »Thanks for the update. Good to know. I get shot two this week and plan to drink lots of water and cut back on sodium and any overly-processed foods. I also plan to take it easy that day and will most likely skip my workout - getting lots of sleep. I don't anticipate any issues - but will err on the safe side.
I read somewhere (can't recall where) that someone's nurse told them after the first shot, that they should be very well hydrated before they get their second shot. The nurse said people tended to have fewer side effects if they drank more water. I don't know if that's true or not, but either way it couldn't hurt, I suppose. Good luck with yours!
I read the same about drinking water before the second dose. I upped my water a little the day before my second dose and then drank more water on the day of the shot. I received the Pfizer vaccine. Other than a very slightly sore arm, I had no side effects at all from the second dose. After the first dose, my arm was extremely sore and I felt very tired the next day. However, those side effects left quickly.2 -
I received my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on April 26th, no side effects other than a sore arm and a migraine the following day. Did not notice any weight gains. I now have a 12 week wait for the second dose - but so happy to be half way there.......3
-
I had a little bump in weight the day after Pfizer shot 2, but it was gone by the day after that. I have been doing time restricted eating and typically don't eat a morning meal, but I adjusted my window so that I had something in my stomach before going to my late morning appointment. I don't know if that was necessary, but didn't think it would hurt and didn't want to risk not having an appetite later. I was generally fine the rest of the day and the next day, though got surprisingly tired on a 1 mile walk with my 8 year old. Good luck everyone!4

When I saw 12 weeks I figured likely Canadian. I really hope y'all get domestic production going again. That can has been kicked down the road far too long. The stretching of doses stinks, but at least your past the first major hurdle!
Dose 1 was bad for me. Migraines, nausea, blood pressure spiked badly, etc. It felt like I had the flu. Complicating matters was a case of the stomach flu that persisted for 6 weeks before I had the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. It was a rough week. By dose two, 21 days later however, it was much better. Side effects, but much less. 2 months later, totally worth it.
My mom had Moderna and her doses were dose 1 some side effects, dose 2 feeling sick. I just tell folks try and take 2-3 days off if possible and expect to be sick, if not, enjoy a mini vacation while it's lovely outside.
The injection site pain on dose 2 was delayed and came on bad after a day or so, and lasted a looong time for some reason. Not really uncommon. /shrug. Totally worth it still.2 -
One week after shot #2 and despite staying in calorie deficit, the scale is stuck. At this point, thinking it is just general stuckness and nothing to do with the vaccine.4
-
Ummm I joked on Facebook... but true.. I ate a donut stick and reuben sandwich right after my second Pfizer shot. The next day.. I kept eating junk food. I posted that eating junk food was. a side effect. But really.. for me it was! I never do that stuff. Maybe the knowing the stress of COVID lifting.. knowing the worry would be gone, made me eat? Or was it the shot? I have no idea. But thats' what happened to me.5
-
I'll find out tomorrow as I've gotten Pfizer today. Phew, I'm tired. Not because of the jab I'm sure, but because I was running around vaccinating people all day.5
-
Update: not so far. I felt stoned and had very vivid dreams last night, but other than that all seems fine. Bill Gates also has not contacted me through the nanochip yet, though he might be busy otherwise at the moment.4
-
I had vivid dreams as well. I assume they are being beamed into my brain via the 5G microchip.
Not sure if it had anything to do with the vaccine - but despite remaining in calorie deficit, I had a 2.5 lb gain three days later. I lost that - plus two more at the eight day mark.3 -
Don't look at comments on the news articles, haha! I didn't have any more vivid dreams than usual, but I bet that happens sometimes because of a fever. I did have a fever for about 45 minutes, and then felt achy and bad all night. The next day I was fine, though. I am tired this week, have less of an appetite than usual and my digestion seems a bit off. I have a lot of allergies this time of year, though...so it's most likely just because of all the Benedryl I'm taking. I advise to ask for a few days off just in case, and take it easy.1
