Less Alcohol ~ JUNE 2021 ~ One Day At A Time
Replies

Vacation and planning to have drinks. My plan includes water between each alcoholic drink, not drink before 4pm and to never have more than 1-2 per bar (notice since we are roof bar hopping so this is not per day ... it is New Orleans after all!) I also plan to ask speciality bars about their mocktail options but in reality I can judge a glass of wine for calories and not other cocktails/mocktails ... so for the sake of my weight loss (7 lbs so far this year and 40 lbs overall) I might just enjoy the wine options.
Oh and as usual I will be reporting back in with my accountability!
6/1 - AF
6/2 - 2 wine
6/3 - TBD @ New Orleans
6/4 - TBD @ New Orleans
6/5 - TBD @ Wedding in Natchez6 -
@chocolate_owl - very interesting article...”.......And yet, if we use alcohol more and more as a private drug, we’ll enjoy fewer of it’s social benefits, and get a bigger helping of it’s harms.”
Whew! That’s me. I have no problem having a drink or two while I make dinner after a long day, and then making another and walking into my sewing room to work for the rest of the evening, having more drinks....and then I get the chips out.
I was at the doctor last Friday for an annual checkup and he muttered something about my liver on last blood work. I was probably hung over when I went to get it done.
So, Tuesday was June 1st and I haven’t had a drink for 2 whole days and I googled “good liver health” and am doing that. It suggested:
Coffee
Green Tea-and you can get dandelion detox tea
Grapefruit
Blueberries/cranberries
Grapes-red & Purple
Prickly pear - it’s an edible cactus
Beetroot juice
Brussels sprouts, broccoli & mustard greens
Nuts
Fatty fish
Olive oil

Work was busy yesterday and I didn't drink enough water, so I focused on rehydrating last night. Husband opened some wine to go with dinner. He asked me if I wanted any, I said no. He got drunk, I stayed sober. I am starting to reach the end of my patience with this pattern.
About to go for a 2 mile walk on my lunch break. I've been listening to The Way of Kings on my walks, and I'm honestly amping up the walking so I can spend more time with the book. If any of you are fantasy fans, it's great, and it's especially well done as an audio book.7 -
@AR10at50 That article really does make you look at your habits and choices! Prickly pear is delicious. It shows up on Mexican restaurant menus from time to time around here. It's on my to-do list of things to learn how to cook.5

Same as last month. Goals in order of importance.
1. Do NOT drink alone.
2. No more than 2 alcoholic drinks in a day (with company), no more than 3 days a week.
3. Fit the calories/macros in.
Today is day 6 AF, but I really, really want a drink tonight. Too tired for company, just wanting to bury myself in a bottle of wine... and a pizza... and a sleeping pill. Which is exactly the night that needs to be AF, so tea and la croix it is. Sigh.

Day 3 AF is here.....
Thanks for your encouraging comments @aipfsu ....it's almost Friday
@Lilylady3k enjoy New Orleans, especially the food!
@AR10@50 glad to see many of my foods on your healthy liver list (not beet juice).
@MissMay no glitter bombs for you from those drinks...I get it... for me, gelato or chocolate treats give me some glitter
Audiobooks are great #chocolate_owl. I will have to give that a go. Right now enjoying Netflix series "High on the Hog" about the history of African-American cuisine. Very educational and I am inspired to make some authentic soul food, especially the greens...if I can find a recipe that is "lower" cal.4 -
Good evening to all
I did have a few glasses of wine last night, and truly regretted it this morning. I did get my gym time in but then I went to do yard work and my energy was just zapped.
@chocolate_owl and @globalhiker I usually have an audio book downloaded on my phone and listen to it while I workout. It helps pass the time and depending on what type of book I have been known to forget to check my time. I love listening to mystery/suspense and history
I have taken a huge landscaping project in our front yard. We have so neglected it, I already have a pickup truck full of branches and pine needles. But once I have it all cleaned out we are going to have some bark delivered and some new plants put out. I am really getting excited about it6 -
@chocolate_owl Interesting thoughts re: drinking “alone” alongside another. DH and I probably do that on occasion. Will have to think about how much that is happening. Thanks for the article.
@Lilylady3k Two of my daughters are UT ZTA’s. Also I identify with the back-of-head questions. For a long time if none of my reasons NOT to drink applied (not driving, no kids around, have the calories for it), it felt like permission to go overboard. Why would that ever be a good idea?
My goal is AF M-Th +no more than 2/day on weekends, but the part I’m really working on is enjoying 1 or 2 without arguing with myself about more. Or feeling deprived/resentful when those around me are having more.

Here's what I like about taking a break from drinking and then when you do decide to have one-
*it is not as tastey as you recall it being before.
*your body let's you know one or two is MORE than enough.
*there is no fan fare, fireworks or glitter bombs when you take a sip.
Last night drinks, two in fact. All of the above fell into place.

This is so true for me! It’s not as delicious as I thought, and my tolerance is down

@ahoy_m8 & @Womona - I’m LSU ZTA plus so is my daughter and two daughter in laws and goddaughter. Small world!
Walked 4 miles in New Orleans. Did not wander with a drink in hand! Stopped at Felix’s Oyster Bar and Peche. Wonderful food!!! Sat at the bar in restaurants and chatted with a number of friendly folks.
1 beer + 3 wine + 1 Benedictine over 5 hrs plus lots of water
Baked drum fish! Yum

Another AF night down. Husband had a miserable day but didn't drink either. I'm grateful.
@Lilylady3k Oh man, excellent choices. Last time we were in NOLA we did ACME oysters (across the street from Felix) and Cochon (same restaurant group as Peche). There's so much good food in that city, it's hard to pick just a few places for a weekend trip.9 -
Hey everyone!
BIG moment for me. AF on a FRIDAY night. I had to do it though bc I “traded” Monday (the holiday) for Friday. I was so tempted but remembered I made a promise to MYSELF.
I got on some inspiring weighloss stories and that brought my head back where it needed to be.
My goal as of now is no more than three days a week to have alcohol...this way the majority of the week I am AF. 😅
I would love some new friends on here as I had to create a new account a few years ago (forgot password and got irritated) so starting over. Feel free to “friend” me if you’re looking for support/meet new people.
Cheers (with my water) to FRIDAY!7 -
Good evening to all from the west coast LOL
AF last night and tonight so I have a rolling 3AF days out of 4. It is hard tonight though DH is having a few Irish Whiskey. But I may 'reward' myself tomorrow. I have been to the gym 4 mornings this week and done a ton of yard work. All that has led to the scale going down in the right direction.
@Lilylady3k Yum on the food, I have only been to New Orleans once and that was way way back in like...2004 ish? I do remember the food and free flowing alcohol in the french quarter. I did not know anyone there and was determined to a vacation by myself, so I did. I met a lovely trio of ladies who volunteered to show me around that night. I had a blast! They even made sure I got back to the hotel safely
.....enough reminiscing
Clinking glasses with you @aipfsu my lemon water is refreshing and my mock whiskey tastes wonderful8 -
@Lilylady3k
Thanks for the pics! Show us more : - )4 -

Friday June 04 - AF - It has been very hot here all week, by mid-afternoon I had to stop walking around doing Census. I will get at it again early in the morning tomorrow before it heats up. I got some garden stuff planted this morning before going out to work for StatsCan (can't knock on people's doors earlier than 9am, that would just be rude). Garden pics to come

I wish I was with @Lilylady3k in New Orleans eating all that delicious food. Oh, lucky....I am sooo hungry right now!
Good news is I lost a lb. @chocolate_owl. Yep, 1....but hey I will take it.
Nothing exciting on my end, just working way, way too much.

Opened a bottle of wine with dinner last night. Husband had some, but he was in a cocktail mood so I ended up drinking most of it, then chased it with a splash of port. Oops. We had fun watching baseball and arguing about the merits of unwritten rules, so at least it wasn’t drinking alone. Planning on a beer or two with dinner out, but I won’t be opening anything when we get back.
I’ve gotten over 3 miles of walking today from shopping! My cousin’s wedding is next weekend, and despite owning 50-something pairs of shoes, I don’t have the right shoes to go with the dress I want to wear. No luck finding shoes for the event, but I still came home with shoes... Rainbow glitter and lilac leopard print sneakers for work, and completely unnecessary heels. I forgot how fun shopping was!

@globalhiker congrats on being down a pound! I’ve lost 3 lbs this week, putting me 1 lb away from the magic number, but I’ll be back up 2 lbs tomorrow since I lifted today. I just want to get there already!
@Lilylady3k I want all of that food so bad. What’s the fried monster?5 -
Seriously....I just came home with 6 lbs jumbo shrimp after seeing @Lilylady3k 's pix. I need a seafood gumbo badly....I am missing the okra and need to go find it tomorrow.
Nice leopard print sneakers there @chocolate_owl. I colored my hair....was starting to look like Grandpa from the Munsters...not the face but the wiry white tufts of hair above the ears LOL. All gone....back to pretty woman
AF and hungry for gumbo...7 -
Had two glasses of wine yesterday and Friday night. My weight is creeping back up so I need to back down the alcohol. I had a drink every day of last week, so even though I was able to moderate my drinks per night, I definitely fell into “it’s a random Tuesday” drinking habit.
I really wanted a third drink much later in the day yesterday, but instead I had a bunch of chocolate. I blame PMS! Haha!

Oh boy I have been slacking at checking in. Not intentional.
Been super busy with work, and ART, and Summer stuff in general.
BUT NOW I do need to go buy some cajun food. I am so happy ypu got to have a wonderful get a way to New Orleans @lilylady3k.
My quick accountability for this weekend is one alcohol drink at home last evening.
JUNE 5
2 days A (3 drinks total)
3 days AF
Stopping at no more than two and no consecutive days drinks. Accomplished goals so far.
See ya Monday6 -
@chocolate_owl LOVE LOVE LOVE those heels and shoes. You are style'n4
-
oh my it looks like my post from yesterday went poof! recap
AF Friday and Saturday
@chocolate_owl Love the shoes and food pictures (heels YES, I have the perfect outfit btw...what size are they LOL)
@Lilylady3k Is that deep fried soft shell crab I see????
@globalhiker yum to the gumbo, I have a great recipe. But I do skip the orka, unless it is deep fried you can keep the slimy stuff haha
So I tried Heineken 00 beer and Becks alcohol free beers yesterday. the Heineken is a definite winner. It was so nice to sit and watch my 'hulu' with my beer and....damm when I drink I snack, coconut macaroon = 3lb gain this am. I know it is sodium combined with the take out mexican food for lunch. Oh well a few days pushing water and I will be fine.
ok I am off for now4 -

Bride & Groom Cocktails before the wedding last night. 1 whiskey sour.
Outdoor wedding & reception in the sprinkling rain started when bridesmaids came out to the big oak tree and stopped after dinner. No alternative plans in case of rain. Imagine people holding umbrellas over the cakes! The only umbrellas so everyone just sat or stood in the rain. People were good sports. Dance floor & DJ did have a small tent. Enjoyed the evening anyway!
3 glasses of wine plus lots of water5 -
