Here is another resource to get you started on volume eating - it is more of a trick to help your body feel full for fewer calories. Great for those for whom a shake just doesn't qualify as a meal.

One to add. I have had to stop using food for entertainment, recreation, escape or to nurture my hurts. I’ve always heard people say that food is fuel but i just couldn’t relate. I am beginning to really understand what that means and consider that when meal planning. .

something else I had to STOP was falling into the 'all or nothing mentality.' If I had a day where I slightly bombed my defecit, I would sometimes just go off the deep end- either binge, or continue bombing my defecit, sometimes for days at a time. It's like I thought "well, it wasn't going to be a 'successful' day anyway, might as well gorge on treats tonight and try again tomorrow." It was just a terrible way to live. Feeling much more at peace with my journey and progress these days.12 -
I have to stop thinking it will never happen for me.
I also need to toss the "I'm stressed" excuse.
I eat too much and obviously repeat the pattern more than I care to admit.
I've had to give up believing I'm a victim.

I had to stop drinking SODA!
Omigawd, soda is THE DEVIL. One can of Mountain Dew = 300 calories. You could have a WHOLE MEAL for that caloric intake! Empty calories will get you every time.14 -
this thread!! I especially related to the need to stop putting an end date on it.
I had to stop putting myself last. With kids, hubby, family business, volunteer roles etc etc, I felt like my whole life was taken up with everyone else's needs, and I was left with the scraps.
Making my own needs a priority helped me turn it around, get healthier and become fitter - and really that's better for everyone.19 -

6. Stopped being an a-hole to myself.
I was not stupid or lazy because I was heavy. I wasn’t incapable or weak. So, I stopped telling myself I was.
Seriously, when I got serious the first thing I did was to buy some clothing that actually fit me. Now it was two pair of pants, a pack of underwear and some tops, but still. Not wearing clothing that I would "diet my way into" was the most liberating thing I did.25 -

Sadly this, since I've been drinking Pepsi as far back as I can remember lol, and cut out all the snack foods. If I don't by the chips and such, I can't be tempted to eat them.5 -

I had to stop trying to be perfect and stop thinking I could be perfect. But its OK to have an off day, just get back on the horse the day after and carry on.6

The biggest "Stop" that has come to me naturally this year is I stopped vilifying food. Eating a piece of cake or candy. Or eating a cheeseburger isn't going to make me fat again. Eating it constantly all the time might. I used to actually think it would all come back on if I didn't eat my regimented diet. Not true.11

I go in spurts of weight loss, with a few backward slides here and there. The hardest thing is DAY !, making it through the first committed day of being serious about my health. After I make it through the first day, I find it easier as I have tucked one successful day away. The more of those successful days following behind me, the easier it is to turn down temptation, or if I do slide back, to continue on the next day as if it never happened. One day at a time. (And not bringing any salty chips into my house.....)3

I just love your post! I can relate to every one of your points and am really working on the mental game as much as anything.
The one thing I had to stop doing is thinking this is about weight loss and start thinking this is about my health. When just focusing on the number on the scale, I'd get discouraged when the number went up, and then feel like a failure. Instead, I have to remind myself that even if the number on the scale goes up, I'm eating healthier and moving my body more. Now I still get discouraged when the scale tells me one thing, but I remember that no matter what, my body has been fueled by food it needs rather than junk and my muscles, which weigh more than the fat they're replacing, allow me to do more with my kids.8 -

This is a great conversation. And 1 i needed to read right now. There are so many comments i agree with and know apply to me.
I feel like I've been giving up on myself with the unhealthy choices I've made and saying that tells me i need to change my perspective and choices. I too have realized i cannot bring snacks such as chips, ice cream, chocolate or pop into the house and think i can control my portions. I can't. Garbage in, garbage stays in..... as fat, self doubt, pity, guilt and poor health. Time to change my ways.6
