What nobody tells you about losing weight

Anyone else's shoe size go down? I've been the same size (UK 9) since I was 14 and didn't start putting on weight until I was in my late 20s, but now that I've finally lost the weight my feet are only a size 8! That was completely unexpected...I didn't realise this could be a thing!
My feet 'expanded' in pregnancy, and stayed that way after, until I lost weight, now I am back to pre-pregnancy size.6 -
When people ask you how you lost weight, they seem to become disenchanted to find out that you had to work hard and diligently to lose the weight over a period of time. They seem to want a quick fix, which is what I had always wanted, but came to the realization that it takes time and practice. It is well worth the effort in the end.21

100%. I've lost 120 pounds. After failing to diet for almost 15 years. Yet a decent chunk of my family will ask what I did, then dismiss it like I dont know what I'm talking about, since it's not a fast or super easy solution. And these happen to be family members that are in the worst shape of their lives.15 -

Yeah, I've hit this too. I am not sure if I believe that people just can't (or can't yet) handle the idea of changing some deeply ingrained eating habits, or just have so thoroughly bought into diet industry bs that it just CANNOT be that easy.
Or both.
Either way, I've definitely hit that dismissal.8 -
I definitely had a vague belief that losing a lot of weight meant either having surgery or it meant adopting an eating plan which meant your whole life revolved around eating at certain times and you couldn't eat with people at the holidays or eat out any more, and you had to start doing triathalons and have your entire life consumed by exercise and you never got to eat anything interesting or varied any more. And I wasn't willing to give up being able to sit down with my family at Thanksgiving, and I already knew my body doesn't like vegetables (thanks IBS) and I have trauma to weightbearing joints that means that I will never run for exercise, so I figured that that was just something I couldn't do.
Of course, here I am 55 pounds down knowing that those were false beliefs. Although I still don't eat vegetables and I don't run for exercise. (I walk around more than I used to, though.... my standing budget got bigger.)23 -

Same. Many want to hear about gimmicks like cutting carbs or juicing everything.8 -

Oh yes, that's a thing! An expensive thing as well...5 -

I had no idea this was a thing, until I kept having to take my skirt hems in! I wear maxi's all the time. Then I kept walking on the skirt hems, after I would maybe fix a waist. At first, I didn't understand why my skirts kept getting longer... I was like "Why is this happening??!" But when you said that, that is sooo a thing. My hubby said my skirts no longer need to cover my butt, of course it is happening in the front - the sides. The incredible elongating skirts!!13 -

I find that my ankle socks come up higher on my feet than they use to.6 -
Body dysmorphia is a thing. The scale tells me I have lost weight and if I take side-by-side pics it is so obvious, as well as my clothing size being much smaller. But yet I still feel like I am as big as ever and I am in mortal fear of gaining the weight back.
For me, the scale says I've lost weight and i fit in smaller clothing but i feel like when I look in the mirror that I am smaller than I actually am.
Then I do a side by side picture and realise I'm less fat but still fat.18 -

This is so true.5 -

This happens with shirts as well - less belly lets the shirt hang farther down... I have broad shoulders and can comfortably wear x-large shirts, but they hang past my crotch.7 -
Nobody told me I wouldn't be able to fit my smartphone in my jeans front pockets anymore
I've been frustrated at smartphones getting bigger and bigger for a while now (I have small hands) but my jeans pockets have gotten smaller along with my jeans size and now I am super frustrated!
(and annoyed at the sexism, smartphones not being designed with smaller female hands in mind and women's clothing having smaller pockets than men's!)

They don't tell you that there is no end game. You have to make changes forever, for the rest of your life. If you don't, then you'll go right back to where you were before the weight loss.39

That the longer you been overweight or obese and or the older you are may play into it also, when you lose weight you may have a jiggly body that needs exercise that may or may not tighten things up. Ugh, but it's better than being overweight.20

I had to give away all my yoga tights, because they looked like elephant legs on me and looked like loose pants. I'm not complaining, just brought new SMALLER ones.12 -

They don't tell you that logging your food feels like paying for it, so if you measure out and log a certain portion then you are going to make sure that you eat every last scrap of it and lick your plate.37
