Hello Everyone! This is only my 2nd Month on MFP and reading all of your posts since July has REALLY helped me stay on task with my logging in and eating.
I now realize that taking care of myself is a lifetime commitment. It took me to 58 to finally figure it out. Guess I'm a really slow learner. Lol
I work in the office at a school so I'm returning next week to work. I'm afraid that I'm not going to be as diligent in my food recording and I wont have free time during the day to exercise. So here's my goals for August:
Record EVERYTHING I put in my mouth daily.
Walk at least 20 minutes on my lunch hour 5 days a week.
I weigh on Fridays so I'll update then.
My highest weight ever was 221 a few years ago.
SW: 205. (7/5/21)

GW for end of August: Under 195
UGW: Under 150
Hello, fellow workday walking buddy! We can do it!6 -
Thanks @RavenStCloud for the thread!
No big plans for the rest of summer; my kids start school on the 17th so it is just trying to get ready for that. I will be heading out of state for my uncle's memorial next week, but I am staying with my aunt who knows I am finally trying to lose weight so hopefully she will be supportive and help me stay on track.
I am almost a month into using MFP and so far so good! I am slowly and steadily making progress. At this point I am still focusing most of my energy on making sure that I am logging everything, and staying at or slightly below my daily calories. I am also trying to get in at least 20 minutes of exercise daily, but I am giving myself more slack on that for now.
For August, my non-scale goals are to continue tracking daily, exercise for at least 20 minutes 5 days a week, and add 1 weight/resistance training day a week.

Wow. Thank you everyone for your kind words!
@thutchings2702 and @Snapy15 Welcome!!!!
@sargemarcori - Yes!!!! I do love how much longer shirts now get.
@57pattycake - HAHA that is funny that I felt the need to explain which was the before picture. I don't know why I did that. Now I cannot stop laughing about it. I just bought a bunch of new tees from Kohls. I had 30% off and found ones that were on sale, they ended up being $4 and change so I stocked up in some smaller sizes. I am going to keep wearing this pink one as long as I can just for my monthly photos.
I like your goal of crossing the zero. I always get excited when I cross that zero into a lower range!
@VickyEltonGreen Thank you. Your comment made my night!
@girlinkaz Thanks. I have to admit my previous progress photos from every month since starting has left me underwhelmed. I felt like I really had to look hard to try to find differences. When I did the side by side on this one I gasped and said "Holy Cr*P!!!"
I love love love the advice you gave to thutchings! What a great idea. I am going to do this too!

Greetings All!
I’m starting MFP up again and am looking forward to finding a community of support.
I’m 51 years old. My SW was 324 (in June) and I am now at 319. I am working on changing my mental and emotional connection to food so I don’t really have a GW yet. I want to eat for health and to fuel my body rather than to fill another need.
I have polycystic ovarian syndrome too so losing weight does not come easy to me, no matter how much I exercise or eat well. That is another reason I choose not to focus on the scale as much as I do on how I feel, move, etc. It seems when I focus on the scale I get discouraged and give up. So I am focusing on changing my habits more and listening to my body more than anything else.
My goal for August is to get acclimated to a food and exercise regime that I can sustain when I return to school in a few weeks (I am a teacher). I want to get into a routine of prepping my food and exercising so I can continue with it when I am worn out from school.

Welcome Lulabelle, I am similar to you about the mental and emotional connection to food. It is at times challenging to dig deep but so worth it. Congratulations on the loss on the scale too. Remember food is just food, it doesn't control you you control it, it may represent something for you like safety, comfort, etc but it does not control you.
Each day is a new day, some days of this journey are like walking in a cool breeze on a hot day, somedays are like trudging up hill but you have a destination in sight. You are worth it!
I go on everyday and read others posts and gain something every time I do.
So welcome to you and to everyone else who has joined this community this month.
Keep envisioning where you will be this time next year re health and wellness, its huge that you have started, maybe again, when you think about it is so brave to face our own fears of failing.
But in end the only way we can truly fail is to not try. So you have done it, you got out of the boat, now time to walk on water.
Vicky

I had originally signed up for my next exercise class for Wednesday (and I'm still sore from Saturday), but I decided to kick off the week with a 615AM class this morning. I felt so good doing it! Like the old me. I probably should have thought through the "before work" part of things, as I'm a little concerned I'll crash after lunch, but that's what a quick cat nap is for.
Welcome newcomers to the thread! I was a newcomer last month and everyone here has been so supportive and welcoming. Feel free to add me as a friend and I'll cheer you on!9 -

I was shocked to see the 217.2 on the scale yesterday. High sodium last week where some days it didn't catch up until later. Overwhelming week by many things and just trying to figure out for myself what I needed to do for me first.
Back to the office was a bit weird last week so I only did 1 day. This week I'm trying to do most of the week but if I'm overly tired I'll stay home a day.
Next weekend is the big wine festival here. I'm always excited for that. Very much an off plan day. Lots of walking around though. It's at one of our farm parks so it's quite funny seeing the animals while intoxicated.
Husband and I are planning for a horror movie convention next month. It has one of the celebrities he's been always mentioning when I ask for who he wants to meet. One of my recent favorites is there too. Hope I don't swoon over him too much in front of DH lol. Potentially could get cancelled but we're hoping it happens. I guess we'll see if the Orlando one in a few weeks happens as it's much bigger.
I've been thinking of trying a 10K training plan. I'm not sure I'll finish it but I tried the longer run (err walk) Saturday. I stopped at the 1 mile instead of 2 as my pacing is too much. I may just continue doing that (stopping at the 1 mile) until I get lower timing. The rest of the plan follows my gym days anyway. With the different Disney race registrations just starting it's been in my thoughts. Some day for the 10K. In the mean time I had just planned for their spring one (5k) next year.8 -

@JNettie73 amazing progress! I do regret not taking progress photos up to now but every time I have that thought it's in a situation where I can't really take any right then and there, and then I'm not thinking about it later when I could take some.
So yesterday's hike was, uh, well. I made it back to the car, let's start there, LOL. I'm surprised at how not-sore I am today, but maybe the DOMS will catch up with me later. I really need a bigger water bottle for the longer hikes, like a 32 or 40oz maybe - 28oz just ain't cutting it for 5 miles in this heat. I also should definitely have worn different shoes; the trail was partially flooded in a couple of places (it basically follows the edge of a wetland/lake, so that's to be expected, to the point that the little blurb on the county website mentions that the trails tend to flood in summer - should have remembered that before heading out, womp womp). I was able to carefully step around most of the flooded areas, until I got to literally the last mile, and there was nothing for it but to walk through the puddle and then squelch my way back to the car. My current hiking shoes are actually trail-running shoes, so they have great airflow and are thus absolutely not the least bit water-resistant. I have some Timberland boots from an old job that are waterproof, maybe if I go back to this natural area I'll wear those. I did see a lot of cool birds on my walk, including a bunch of beautiful herons and even a vulture, so that was neat.
NSVs: I'm "shopping my closet" and bringing things back into the rotation that I haven't been able to wear since 2018! Today I'm wearing a button-up shirt that I love - it's got blue and white pinstripes and little black cat faces all over it. It didn't fit this well even when I bought it, and now it's borderline too loose! I'm glad wearing loose/oversized button-ups over tanks/camis is a Look these days because I love this shirt and I'm not ready to give it back up just because I overshot fitting into it by a few lbs.14 -
Hi, all! Long time since I’ve posted. I really should have kept up with the group but those who know my situation are aware of my trials 😢. More unfortunate news to report is that I gained 50 lbs in one month❗️ I was shocked and dismayed. Literally heartbroken after the work I put in. I felt I was back at the beginning but my sister reminded me I know what to do!
Because of my accident, I’ve been forced into retirement which I HATE!!! I LOVED my job working with my early college program but I must focus my time and effort on my recovery. The unfortunate part is I used my scale to gauge my progress with weight loss and I’ve been unable to weight outside of dr appointments. Fortunately, my sister has found a wheelchair scale at her hospital. It would greatly help if I can weight each Saturday like before.
My story:
Height 5’4”
SW 4/2019 307
W 11/2020 178
CW 7/2021 235
Aug GW 220
GW 175
Goals:
💚 Hydrate with 60+ oz daily
💚 Cardio 20 minutes daily
💚 Core training 15 minutes daily
💚 Rehab exercises 30 minutes daily
💚 Increase protein intake
My hope is to get back to my size because I have a closet full of size 10 clothes I need to be able to wear 😂❗️
Have a great week!!!

This is my first time on one of these post! I was doing good before quarantine but that hit me pretty hard, I gained back to 48 pounds I had lost and some . I have Endometriosis and PCOS so I already struggle to lose weight with 2 medical conditions against me but I have finally decided I will not let that be an excuse for me any longer. I started back up in May of 2021. 4 days ago I got engaged and am not highly motivated to get back on track and drop the weight.

My Goals for this month include losing 2 pounds per week. Working out at least 4 days a week and closing my exercise ring on my apple watch at least 25 times this month!
I generally weight myself every Friday first thing in the morning.
Please feel free to add me as a friend!12 -
@pamiede welcome back! You've done it before and you can do it again
@hucklesuckle2385 welcome, and congrats on the engagement!5 -
This is my first time at one of these monthly things (June 2013 started with MFP).

August GW: 199 I hope to be in Onederland!! I am very hype about this possibility. (Haven't seen it since 1997)
GW: 130
I have seen these "summer goals" or "monthly goals" over the years, but I didn't believe it was possible for me to lose weight. Yeah, I was one of those - a true skeptic. I struggle with hypothyroidism - since a surgery when I was 21yo in 1996 when my thyroid was wiped out. I also have chronic anemia, with many days of being unable to get out of bed much less anything else (like exercise). So I didn't think I would be able to lose. Some days I am on prednisone makes losing weight harder (hives tied to my cycle and sometimes randomly appearing for mysterious reasons). But here I am, 74 down and 73 to go! And I am joining a monthly group to do it with (weird for me, but I am rolling with it!)
I really believe that not only can I lose weight, but I can keep it off - because maintenance for life baby! Something that none of my family members have ever achieved. They have all lost a little weight, two lost over 100lbs (surgery, and the other used Optifast with some kind of weight loss drug - both gained it back the year after losing it all)- but I will be the first person ever in my family (and the hubby's family) to maintain. Because MFP has taught me so much!! Gratitude to all out there in mfp world... This month is for you! To Onederland! (... sounds like a perfect time to say "and beyond!", but I don't want ANYONE to think I mean below 100lbs lols) I think I was a size 26/28 in the first pic and am now able to put on, (but oh are they tight) size 18 jeans. My tops are always out of control because of the girls, I am not confident in any top or size because they are just not going away. Maybe ever.

Happy Birthday @Justanotherloser, you look so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!But then again you did also in the the before picture, you are so pretty. Today you are my inspiration.
@pameide welcome back and have followed your posts, most people don't have to go through some of the things you have also had to experience, the fact you keep on going despite setbacks is truly inspirational. Your smile is carrying me through today
I needed to get some perspective and you have helped. I know it won't be easy to take the weight off again but you are no stranger to "the easy" and rise above it every time.
Thank you everyone for your posts, they mean a lot

Thank you Raven StCloud for another monthly post.
So, apologies for going AWOL last month everyone, it was a truly hectic and chaotic month.
We moved at the beginning of the month, and if that wasn’t enough to stress us out, we had just moved in when we got the very unpleasant news that one of our closest friends had committed suicide. Words can’t even begin to explain the devastation this has caused. He was my partners best friend since school days. My partner was his best man. I don’t even want to imagine what his poor wife is going through right now. It’s all just so confusing and upsetting.
I will do my best to stay on track over the coming month, but if I disappear again it’s probably just due to trying to deal with the aftermath of this awful situation, offer support to my partner and our friends’ wife, and just trying to come to terms with what went so terribly wrong.
If anyone out there is suffering mentally, please, please I beg of you just talk to somebody, anybody. Don’t go it alone, get help, there is nothing so bad that without the right support and medication/therapy you can’t overcome, and what seems like the worst thing in the world today, won’t feel like that next week, or next month, if you just get the help you need.
Take care of yourselves.

@CariTJR I'm so sorry to hear of your friend. I lost my brother to suicide. It is so hard to understand the why's; and there may never be an answer. Sometimes it's just an answer for you and not their reason. I won't ever know the full why's for my brother but I've come up with my own. BIG HUG!
@seltzer_lover I saw your post on the July thread, assuming you thought it was here. I do eat back my exercise calories. I've been at this long enough that I've understood roughly what the appropriate calories are for the exercises I routinely do so I feel confident in those. If I thought something was counted as too high then maybe I wouldn't though. Since I'm following MFP calories I accept I'm already at a deficit so I fully earned those calories. I would end up in a binge if I didn't after a while as it might cause me to be in too large of a deficit.7 -
sarah12277 wrote: »@seltzer_lover I saw your post on the July thread, assuming you thought it was here.
Oh my goodness. I did think I was in this thread. Clearly wasn't paying an ounce of attention this morning.
Thanks for you feedback on the calories. I think I used to eat them, back in the day when I lost all this weight the first time, but I couldn't remember. I'll try eating those back for a week or two and see how it goes.

I have committed to walking with a friend every morning early for just 30 minutes this week. we are on day 4 and I am loving that it is a quick, energizing, over and done with and a little boost of motivation for the day.11
-
@holdthefries nice! I started adding exercise to my daily routine doing it first thing in the morning, ostensibly to get it over with before my brain woke up and realized what i was doing, LOL. But at this point, 8 months in, I've actually come to look forward to whatever I'm doing on a particular day, and also getting it done first thing does provide a nice energy boost and feeling of accomplishment, like no matter what else happens today I did 60 Bulgarian split squats or whatever (not recommended for everyone, or anyone, jibbers crabst my quads - did 'em tho!).6

Here are my weekly goals for August:
1) Stop eating after 7:00 p.m. (I'm a serial night snacker, and this is where I consume most of my calories)
2) Drink 64oz of water a day
3) Exercise 3 days a week/half an hour a day. (I'm considering starting a mileage challenge for myself...walk x number of miles a day/week/month but I have NO idea what my goal should be...I want it attainable but a challenge.)
These goals seem pretty simple, but I'm trying to start off with baby steps. I've learned in the past that if I try to do too much at once, I fail. If I moderate myself and take it one step at a time, I tend to do pretty well. I also like a challenge, which is the exercise portion of it, because I do zero exercise right now.
I am so so so so so so scared to do this because I've never succeeded but I hate where I am at right now so much more than I'm scared. I need to do this before my life ends. I'm really starting to see the negative impacts of my weight on my overall health and I'm truly scared I could die if I don't do something soon. I've got a family that needs me more than I want my food. I keep telling myself that.11 -
@Renewed2021 About 2 weeks ago, I also stopped eating after 7pm and it has made a big difference. I especially don't feel stuffed when I go to bed. All you can do is take baby steps. You try one thing for several days and when it falls into rhythm and feels comfortable, then add the next item and so on. Everything sounds simple until YOU are the one having to do it and then it's not so simple. Don't get discouraged. Stick with the group. They have a lot of good advice and it is encouraging to read all the posts and know that we are all in the same boat.10
