@pamiede welcome back! You've done it before and you can do it again
@hucklesuckle2385 welcome, and congrats on the engagement!5 -
This is my first time at one of these monthly things (June 2013 started with MFP).
Age: Turning 48 tomorrow! I can't believe I lived this long! This is downright miraculous!
Height: 5'3"
SW in 2013: 277
CW: 203.4
August GW: 199 I hope to be in Onederland!! I am very hype about this possibility. (Haven't seen it since 1997)
GW: 130
I have seen these "summer goals" or "monthly goals" over the years, but I didn't believe it was possible for me to lose weight. Yeah, I was one of those - a true skeptic. I struggle with hypothyroidism - since a surgery when I was 21yo in 1996 when my thyroid was wiped out. I also have chronic anemia, with many days of being unable to get out of bed much less anything else (like exercise). So I didn't think I would be able to lose. Some days I am on prednisone makes losing weight harder (hives tied to my cycle and sometimes randomly appearing for mysterious reasons). But here I am, 74 down and 73 to go! And I am joining a monthly group to do it with (weird for me, but I am rolling with it!)
I really believe that not only can I lose weight, but I can keep it off - because maintenance for life baby! Something that none of my family members have ever achieved. They have all lost a little weight, two lost over 100lbs (surgery, and the other used Optifast with some kind of weight loss drug - both gained it back the year after losing it all)- but I will be the first person ever in my family (and the hubby's family) to maintain. Because MFP has taught me so much!! Gratitude to all out there in mfp world... This month is for you! To Onederland! (... sounds like a perfect time to say "and beyond!", but I don't want ANYONE to think I mean below 100lbs lols) I think I was a size 26/28 in the first pic and am now able to put on, (but oh are they tight) size 18 jeans. My tops are always out of control because of the girls, I am not confident in any top or size because they are just not going away. Maybe ever.

Happy Birthday @Justanotherloser, you look so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!But then again you did also in the the before picture, you are so pretty. Today you are my inspiration.
@pameide welcome back and have followed your posts, most people don't have to go through some of the things you have also had to experience, the fact you keep on going despite setbacks is truly inspirational. Your smile is carrying me through today
I needed to get some perspective and you have helped. I know it won't be easy to take the weight off again but you are no stranger to "the easy" and rise above it every time.
Thank you everyone for your posts, they mean a lot

Thank you Raven StCloud for another monthly post.
So, apologies for going AWOL last month everyone, it was a truly hectic and chaotic month.
We moved at the beginning of the month, and if that wasn’t enough to stress us out, we had just moved in when we got the very unpleasant news that one of our closest friends had committed suicide. Words can’t even begin to explain the devastation this has caused. He was my partners best friend since school days. My partner was his best man. I don’t even want to imagine what his poor wife is going through right now. It’s all just so confusing and upsetting.
I will do my best to stay on track over the coming month, but if I disappear again it’s probably just due to trying to deal with the aftermath of this awful situation, offer support to my partner and our friends’ wife, and just trying to come to terms with what went so terribly wrong.
If anyone out there is suffering mentally, please, please I beg of you just talk to somebody, anybody. Don’t go it alone, get help, there is nothing so bad that without the right support and medication/therapy you can’t overcome, and what seems like the worst thing in the world today, won’t feel like that next week, or next month, if you just get the help you need.
Take care of yourselves.

@CariTJR I'm so sorry to hear of your friend. I lost my brother to suicide. It is so hard to understand the why's; and there may never be an answer. Sometimes it's just an answer for you and not their reason. I won't ever know the full why's for my brother but I've come up with my own. BIG HUG!
@seltzer_lover I saw your post on the July thread, assuming you thought it was here. I do eat back my exercise calories. I've been at this long enough that I've understood roughly what the appropriate calories are for the exercises I routinely do so I feel confident in those. If I thought something was counted as too high then maybe I wouldn't though. Since I'm following MFP calories I accept I'm already at a deficit so I fully earned those calories. I would end up in a binge if I didn't after a while as it might cause me to be in too large of a deficit.7 -
sarah12277 wrote: »@seltzer_lover I saw your post on the July thread, assuming you thought it was here.
Oh my goodness. I did think I was in this thread. Clearly wasn't paying an ounce of attention this morning.
Thanks for you feedback on the calories. I think I used to eat them, back in the day when I lost all this weight the first time, but I couldn't remember. I'll try eating those back for a week or two and see how it goes.

I have committed to walking with a friend every morning early for just 30 minutes this week. we are on day 4 and I am loving that it is a quick, energizing, over and done with and a little boost of motivation for the day.11
-
@holdthefries nice! I started adding exercise to my daily routine doing it first thing in the morning, ostensibly to get it over with before my brain woke up and realized what i was doing, LOL. But at this point, 8 months in, I've actually come to look forward to whatever I'm doing on a particular day, and also getting it done first thing does provide a nice energy boost and feeling of accomplishment, like no matter what else happens today I did 60 Bulgarian split squats or whatever (not recommended for everyone, or anyone, jibbers crabst my quads - did 'em tho!).6

Total month loss:
Here are my weekly goals for August:
1) Stop eating after 7:00 p.m. (I'm a serial night snacker, and this is where I consume most of my calories)
2) Drink 64oz of water a day
3) Exercise 3 days a week/half an hour a day. (I'm considering starting a mileage challenge for myself...walk x number of miles a day/week/month but I have NO idea what my goal should be...I want it attainable but a challenge.)
These goals seem pretty simple, but I'm trying to start off with baby steps. I've learned in the past that if I try to do too much at once, I fail. If I moderate myself and take it one step at a time, I tend to do pretty well. I also like a challenge, which is the exercise portion of it, because I do zero exercise right now.
I am so so so so so so scared to do this because I've never succeeded but I hate where I am at right now so much more than I'm scared. I need to do this before my life ends. I'm really starting to see the negative impacts of my weight on my overall health and I'm truly scared I could die if I don't do something soon. I've got a family that needs me more than I want my food. I keep telling myself that.11 -
@Renewed2021 About 2 weeks ago, I also stopped eating after 7pm and it has made a big difference. I especially don't feel stuffed when I go to bed. All you can do is take baby steps. You try one thing for several days and when it falls into rhythm and feels comfortable, then add the next item and so on. Everything sounds simple until YOU are the one having to do it and then it's not so simple. Don't get discouraged. Stick with the group. They have a lot of good advice and it is encouraging to read all the posts and know that we are all in the same boat.10

Hi ladies. I'm back, again! I was doing so well since March then had a wobble with motivation but I'm back on it. Luckily only gained 4lbs and I've now lost 2 of the 4 so I'm back on track. Hope everyone is well ♥️11
-
@Renewed2021 How about instead of x miles per time, you set your first goal at just x miles, total, regardless of how long it takes? Maybe you start with just racking up 30 miles on your walking shoes (or your bike, or whatever you're doing your exercise with), see how long it takes you to get there? (If you're walking 2 MPH for half an hour at a stretch, that'll only take about six weeks!)6

holdthefries wrote: »Hello August!
I still haven't overcome the all or nothing approach to changing my daily habits for a more balanced way of eating and activity. I know this is basically step one for meaningful, lasting change but I always slide back into extremes. Extremes of restricted eating and obsessive calorie counting to extremes of bingeing whatever I want whenever I want. I do the same with exercise. Instead of saying I'm going to move my body gently every day for 15 minutes to an hour I try to do these impossible to sustain hikes that leave me exhausted and deflated.
This post sounds like a bummer but its not! It's acceptance that this way of thinking and doing is not working for me. I weight the most today that I ever have in my entire life so something is not working right?
Instead I'm going to try and find better balance this month. I'm going to try to eat more intuitively and exercise in a more enjoyable way. I'm going to be gentle with myself this month with the hope that small changes will be more sustainable.
I bought a little journal that I can write things down in. And now I'm going to eat a peach. Because its summer and they are perfect. Hello August!
Wowwww I could have written this myself. Moderation is SUCH a struggle!!!5 -

Another week of meeting all my goals and only seeing a minimal loss. So frustrating but I will continue to focus on goals.
Food: I am doing fantastic at eating to my calorie goals each day. It has been several weeks since I went over by even a small amount of calories. I am focusing on fresh whole foods and have been sticking to very low amounts of added sugar, processed foods and restaurant foods. I meet or exceed my water goals each day.
Exercise: I have been consistent with my morning weekday walk. I was able to increase from 4.5 miles to 5 miles a few days this week since I had later meetings. I even added a Sunday walk this week to give the dog some additional exercise before we had guests over. I am spending most of my day working with my desk in a standing position and have also been doing various physical therapy exercises for my knee each day. I would like to set a goal this month to work on more strength training exercises and riding my spin bike to add some variety. If anyone has a favorite YouTube workout please share!
This weekend I am looking forward to an event at my favorite Sonoma Coast winery (Balletto). We are going to their summer supper farm-to-table dinner featuring a celebrity chef Fernando Ruiz. I am soooo looking forward to this event and plan to relax and enjoy the experience.8 -
sarah12277 wrote: »Next weekend is the big wine festival here. I'm always excited for that. Very much an off plan day. Lots of walking around though. It's at one of our farm parks so it's quite funny seeing the animals while intoxicated.
I always enjoy seeing animals intoxicated, like drunk squirrels, or "Animals are beautiful people" which got me started! I never thought of getting drunk myself and watching animals... hmmmRenewed2021 wrote: »I am so so so so so so scared to do this because I've never succeeded but I hate where I am at right now so much more than I'm scared. My baby step when I was there, was I joined MFP to NOT gain weight! Yeah, how is that for a baby step! Actually, this helped me come to grips with the fact that I had to lose 150 pounds. Since, that is a lot of weight I was simply overwhelmed! So I am guessing if I had to separate the emotions I would definitely have been scared. Scared I couldn't do it, scared of the absolute magnitude of the undertaking, scared of failure, scared of the changes etc. I definitely felt the fear! I was able at 260 pounds to do a 5k! Right! and I finished it!
I did a sort of modified couch to 5k for fatties (that is what I called it in my head), because my joints are taking a bit of weight/extended abuse and I had seen many overweight people really have to deal with their joints when they exercised - I tried to learn from that and keep it in mind when I was able to exercise. So I was able to not suffer injuries (which can be such a big headache even for the thin people!) I utilized some special tights for my hip and knee joints. This was just necessary for me, and not just for the inevitable "chub rub" that my hubby with his skinny legs had to deal with! He has almost all his weight in a pot belly. But when we finished the 5k, I had no injuries and not a ton of chub rub, certainly not the amount that the DH had to contend with.
So I agree with Tuddy315 that "All you can do is baby steps" and I am often surprised that people lose 10 lbs a month. Wow, that is an aggressive goal! My sister-in-law (who is so much more active than I) can do that sort of thing, but for me that would be a full-on set up for failure. An absolute train wreck! I focus on what I can do, and if I can't lose weight - I do maintenance. Which means I had to figure out maintenance. A very important step if you want to keep off the weight for life.

Down 1.8lbs this week, which feels pretty amazing! This week has been mediocre in terms of food though - I was feeling hungrier this week and instead of cooking myself a ton of veggies or eating more protein, I ended up eating a lot of low calorie ice cream. Since it’s low calorie, it didn’t derail my goals or make me go over my calories BUT it’s not how I want to live. Don’t get me wrong, I love dessert and make room for it in my calorie budget every day- but eating ice cream because I am hungry will not actually make me full. This week I plan to do a better job of having more veggies cooked/prepped so that I have something ready to go when I feel hungry.
I had to skip my evening walk last night because it was raining (and the geniuses who built the sidewalks here used material that is SLIPPERY WHEN WET so it’s impossible to do anything but very slowly tiptoe along in the rain 🙄) and I really missed it. It’s funny because sitting on the couch after work watching tv is what I used to do every single day but doing that last night without having done my 3 mile loop first just felt weird. I am trying to identify myself as “a fit person” and see how even that small shift in identity changes my habits. (I read that on one of the forums here and it has been life changing!)
Hope you ladies have a marvelous week!10 -
Friday Weigh-in:
Age: 58
Ht.: 5'3"
My highest weight ever was 221 a few years ago.
SW: 205. (7/5/21)
Last week's weight: 199.6
CW: 198.2
GW for end of August: Under 195
UGW: Under 150 (?) TBD
I'll take the -1.4 loss. I didn't get in as much excercise this week as I had been. And even though I stayed in my calorie range I wasn't eating as healthy. My husband and I celebrated 35 years on August 1st and our two sons both had birthdays on August 2nd. They are 3 years apart, but born on the same day. So I had some sweets that I have been staying away from.
I work in a middle school office and went in to get things set up for the school year this week. Through off my "summer routine ". Next week I'm back full time so it's time to adjust my routine.
I'm nervous because I've always been able to do better in the summer when it comes to weight control. I HAVE to put my health first.
Goals:
Bring my lunch daily.
Get up and move every 15-20 minutes.
Walk 20-30 minutes of my lunch break.
Drink my 64 oz. of water daily.
Good luck on weigh-ins this week whatever day they are for you.
I'm so thankful that I'm in this group with all of you!

I have had a good week so far. I have walked a bit everyday, anywhere from 4 to 10 km which I have done first thing in the morning to get my heart rate up a bit and to feel energized before coffee (which I did NOT think was possible!!!). I have stayed under my calorie goals mostly and enjoyed the foods I have eaten. I did not feel deprived. I looked forward to meals, preplanned and shopped for them ahead of time so there wasn't a panic of what to eat. I went out for dinner last night with friends had a cocktail (or two) and some snacky tapas and still managed to stay on track with weight loss this morning. (by balancing a much longer walk yesterday) I am liking this moderation without judgement, without anything being off limits or labelling foods good or bad. I am setting mini goals this month each week to help me stay focused on the now. Hope you are all doing well too!10

I swapped shifts with a coworker at the last minute this week, so I was off today and will be working tomorrow, meaning I won't have time for a proper weigh-in. I used a different scale, in a different place, at a different time of day than I usually do for my weigh in, LMAO, so I'm just going to say I'm retaining water. Because I am hella retaining water - my quads have been sore and stiff all week long, but in their defense I haven't exactly given them much of a break this week, doing a lot of lower-body focused stuff.
@drj63 Hey, a 1.4 lb loss is actually really good! You really shouldn't aim much higher than that per week. So, you're doing great! It may be easier for you to stick to the goal of bringing your lunch every day if you prepare lunch for the whole week in advance - I do this, I love how easy it is to log my lunch in advance for the whole week. (And breakfast and dinner, at this point, but I started by just prepping lunches.)
@holdthefries awesome! I'm glad you're finding things that work for you.8 -

I wasn’t as tight with my calories as I should have been this week. And I started a squat challenge on the 1st. I did a squat challenge back in April with an MFP friend and it really helped me get moving. My walking challenge at work is over. I still feel like I should set myself a daily step goal? Does anyone else have one?
I also bought a new ice cream maker to make “healthier” ice creams and sorbets. All of the healthier ice creams I’ve been buying have sugar alcohol in them and it bothers my stomach. Since I didn’t know how to use it I started with one of the included recipes for butter pecan ice cream. Boy was it good! But not healthy! So I’ve been eating that all week too. ☺️1 -
Trying to catch up with all the posts.

@goal06082021 thank you for the tips!!! I'll try this!!! 😊
I hope it works for you! When I started I just used any old containers I had to prep my lunches for the week; once I had been doing it for a couple of months and gotten into the groove of the routine, I invested in some glass containers with locking lids. I also picked six recipes and I just make those in rotation - that's long enough between repeats that I don't feel like I "just" had X for lunch, but also a small enough rotation to be manageable in terms of grocery shopping and planning.6 -
I am going to keep my check-ins on Saturdays. I met my tracking and exercise goals for the week (yay!), but have not yet added any weight/resistance training yet. My goal for this week is to beat my daughter in steps, lol. She has been kicking my butt for the last 3 weeks.

Lost 2.4 lbs this week which is right on target for my monthly goal - so I'm happy with that. I’ve been trying not to eat after 7pm but that’s hard for me. Covid laid me off but normally I work nights and have been reluctant to adjust because I have a strong RTC – resistance to change!
To @girlinkaz and @jazzadesigns I’m envious of your ice cream indulgent - wish I could join you but it’s a gateway food for me – once I have a little then I think what’s a little more. -you get the idea. I guess I’ll settle for frozen grapes!

Hubby just told me that he would like it if I was healthier. This came from a place of love and I truly believe he's concerned about me. He doesn't know I'm doing thus, but hearing him say that was an affirmation I need to get better. He also told me that he believes in me and that I can be healthier if I want to be. That made me cry. He's never said a word about my weight or my size. His only concern is my health. I haven't told him I'm doing MFP yet. He knows I'm a serial starter, and for that reason I want to show the evidence before I speak the words. He really blessed me today and I doubt he never knows it.11

GW (hopefully by Jan 1) 150, then maybe 135
Current weight 186.4

Starting weight in August 1st 189.8
CW 186.4
Loss since August 1 3.4
Short term goal, to be 179 by the end of August, so another 6-7 pounds this month if possible
Current strategies, 2, sometimes 3, dog walks per day, sometimes 3-4 repetitions of "go you chicken fat go" for aerobics, trying to keep carbs low - not keto, but 50-100 most days. And sodium low. So far, not too much trouble sticking to the diet, exercise and food logging, though if I eat too many carbs or too early, it triggers me to want to eat more. I don't buy junk food, for the most part, though I have been eating sugar free jello the past couple of weeks, and bought some sugar free fudgsicles. Not sure if that isn't a mistake or not.4 -
