A little late to the party but joining the fun.
Heaviest ever - 195
August 19 start weight - no access to a scale today. Will post tomorrow. Also, hate weighing after a weekend
October 31st goal weight - 180 but would be really happy with 178.6 -
When we arrived Friday to visit my Aunt in North Carolina, after not seeing her for more than a year (Covid restrictions of course) the first thing she said to me and my husband was, "Well I was feeling self conscious about getting fat over the past year but I see I am not the only one." The woman is blunt but I am used to it. BUT it made me realize, no there is nothing wrong with my mirror or scale. Sigh. Anyway, we ate plenty of yummy southern food but the diet resumes today. My scale is awaiting me back home I cannot imagine what it will reveal to me. I did drag myself to the hotel gym yesterday and walked 20 minutes on the treadmill so there's that. Back on track today!11

8/7 - 154 lbs
8/16- 151 lbs.
I realize the pace will slow… first week is a boon but it feels gratifying anyway. 😀 Paying attention to food and exercise is helping. I am asking myself how to maintain good habits this week and then the big test will be the week of 8/23 when I return to work full time after being home all summer. With a change in childcare and schedule, I’ve got to make a plan for a healthy balance! Anyway, thanks for the group. Love to see people’s progress and honest comments …really motivating!6 -

Just read a New York Times article on IF. I think I'll give that another try. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/04/well/eat/intermittent-fasting-made-my-life-easier-and-happier.html

I did the same thing on Saturday. Got up got dressed and did my workout totally forgetting to get on the scale. I'll try again next Saturday too. Hopefully with staying consistent with my diet and exercise I'll see a loss.3 -
Thank you RubyRed427 for starting this challenge!

My name is Donna and I am 61 years old. I live in the Midwest of the USA. 5' 5" tall. My starting weight was 253. I have relapsed in the past year and need to get back on track. I am type 2 diabetic and in remission for breast cancer. Health is my #1 priority.
I would love to join! Here are my weights so far:
Start Weight: 192.4 (Weight on July 31st)
Goal Weight: 177.4
End Weight: xxxxx
Short term goal: To lose about 5 pounds per month.
Ultimate Goal Weight: 145-155 (I’ll know it when I get there!)

Aug 01: 191.4…..(trend weight 194.6) A nice way to start but it may not stick. Very little food yesterday due to an emergency with my well. No water again today. This is horrid!
Aug 03: 190.4…..(trend weight 193.7) A little topsy-turvy and moving all around. I am hopeful that August will be a good month. July was good to me.
Aug 10: 189.6 (trend weight 192.0) Progress. I hope the long travel day which will include at least one restaurant will not derail me too much.
Aug 17: 189.8 (trend weight 190.4) An overnight bump up but still trending down nicely. Today I will work on having a very good day even though, emotionally, things just couldn’t be worse. Biopsy results are still not in. Still no water. Well company is not responding to messages since yesterday. Plumber has stopped coming because prime on the well doesn’t last anyway for any serious length of time. I’ve lost my joy. My energy is zapped. Hugs are welcome! Prayers and good vibes are requested.

For those of you who are mathematically inclined and familiar with the notion of a limit, aren't I happy (and yet somehow a bit dismayed?) that I am (still) within epsilon of my goal?
For those of you familiar with Zeno's dichotomy paradox (though I'll flip it and use an arrow for imagery), don't I feel like an arrow that will never reach it's target because it is perpetually getting only half way between where it is and where it wants to be?
I say this in good fun. We can all reach our target, although it may seem impossible at times.
If you're winning, keep on winning. If you're struggling, keep on struggling.
It's a lifelong race.

Oh Jen...I'm sending you a big hug for support and being back on track! Good for you and getting on that treadmill...it's small achievements like those that will make you successful on your health journey!6 -
Thank you to everyone who shares their stories...you all are so inspiring!!!! Anyone else out there looking forward to fall...lol...I feel summer has definitely had it's challenges with making healthy choices and thankfully I've been basically maintaining!!! I find fall is a great time to refocus and less chances for all those summertime overindulgences lol
Anyway...thanks for sharing and we can all do this!!! I've missed posting my weigh-ins so I'm holding myself accountable to sharing this Sunday!!!10 -
Thanks for the love @shannonkelly08. I am feeling back on track today. This morning I took a half hour walk with my hand weights. I think they really make a difference and feel I am getting a whole body workout, not just my legs. I had a sensible breakfast and a salad with some roasted chicken on it for lunch. I DID have a coke which I rarely do, but I needed a pick me up. I'll weigh in on Friday as that is my usual day even though I haven't been consistent with that.
Thanks to all for their inspiring posts. I enjoy readying every single one of them!10 -
I just heard on the news there was a study done that said upping your Vitamin D intake (fish, milk, mushrooms etc or a supplement) can cut your risk of developing colon cancer by 50%. That is HUGE. This kind of cancer is on the uptick in the US, mostly due to poor diet. They are seeing it in younger people. Remember the old saying, we are what we eat. I'll try to keep that in mind when considering a cheeseburger and fries over a salad when I'm out.8

Hi - starting a bit late as August is half over. I am 60 years old and am tired of being overweight. I tried to read a book called the Anti-diet which promotes loving yourself as is. I love the concept but unfortunately that is just totally impossible for me. So I begin this journey anew. I am starting with an 8lb gain from two vacations and my goal is to lose 20 lbs by the end of october.

Height: 5'5"
Highest Weight: 174.0 lbs (6/7/21)
Ultimate Goal: 130 lbs
August 1st Weight: 172-174 lbs (didn't weigh in as it was my birthday weekend!)
October Goal: 147 lbs
---
Joining late, but I was on vacation from 8/1-8/11! And I managed to LOSE about 4 lbs!!! On vacation! I didn't think it possible, but honestly, after some reflection I realized it was simply because I didn't eat until I was hungry on my road trip. That's all!
But I needed that win badly. I have been trying to lose weight since the start of the pandemic (where I weighed 148 lbs after dropping a lot the previous year), and instead I only crept up. And up and up! But this body survived a pandemic and I'm not going to say anything bad about it.
However, with this new boost of motivation from accidental weight loss, I have a fire lit within me again (FINALLY) to stay on this track! Even just 5 lbs down, my rings feel looser, my face feels less bloated, and I just over-all feel so much better. I can only imagine what losing the extra 40 lbs will do!
My goal for the end of October will put me back in the healthy weight range for my height. I felt FANTASTIC there last year and can not wait to be back. But my biggest motivation this time around is because in October, we are going to start trying for a baby. I want to go into that next phase of my life happy and healthy, not just for myself, but for a hopeful future growing baby too.
I feel more focused, ready, and at peace with what's to come now more than ever. I know what to do and what's expected of me, and I couldn't feel more ready for it.

An uptick. Sigh. My husband & I took a six mile hike on Sunday and I was wearing a daypack with lots of water in it. Great exercise, particularly as we are preparing for some serious hikes this fall, although I’m feeling muscles I didn’t know I have. Which means muscle building and I’m not entirely surprised to see the number up. Now I’m walking around craving sweet stuff. Hopefully healthier habits will prevail and I’ll get back on track.9 -
I love the reverse goal idea ! Starting here at 150 & & want to end up at 135 . I’m going to try that calendar idea when I get back home . I just made a coffee run from the beach house & was inspired by so many people out at 7am . It was super inspiring . I’m going to put in my contacts & get out there for 10,000 steps today !
My biggest thrill here this morning is that I figured out how to copy my first post ! Go me !
Down to 147.4 in 2 weeks but had gone up so this is hard won effort . Really trying to cut my carbs , but I’m being honest I am not doing a great job of not drinking this summer . I’m trying but not hard enough . I’m putting this out there because I feel like fir the first time in my life I’m going to be more truthful in my posts vs hiding my true actions . Thanks fir the safe space to do it friends !10 -

I’m really pleased with my progress this week. I know I’m just getting back into the swing of things with diet and exercise after a two month break so it’s not surprising that I’ll see the biggest drop now, but I’m still happy to see the change.
Have to celebrate the victories as they come!10 -

That means I'm up 2.4 lbs up from last week. Not exactly the direction I wanted to go. But honestly I'm not too surprised. I've been emotionally eating this past week due to family stress. That combined with only light walking a couple days, I'm not doing what I need to be doing to actually lose weight.
For next week, I'm actually planning on meal prepping. When I do that, I steadily lose weight, just from having healthy meals planned out and ready to eat.
I'm doing a Matcha Kale Kiwi Raspberry Overnight Oats for breakfast. Still not sure what lunch will be, although it will be packed with veggies and likely a grain bowl or pasta, just because that's my go-to.
I'm thinking about making little no-bake cheesecake cups for a healthy dessert to have on hand so I won't eat a bowl of ice cream for dessert.
I'm going to hit the grocery store today so I can have the meals prepped for tomorrow.
For exercise, I joined another challenge and I'm aiming to walk 3-6 miles a week. I'll brainstorm ways to do that even when it's pouring rain, like it is right now.
With a little planning and preparation, here's to the next week being better.13
