What’s your food weakness?

I’m curious as to what food(s) are your weakness that may otherwise be unhealthy and/or caused your weight gain. For me, it’s ramen noodles and pasta, pasta, pasta galore! I’m a noodle girl for sure. I’ve tried zucchini noodles in place of regular pasta noodles and it actually tastes pretty good! I was both hesitant at first and surprised the next. What healthier option have you tried in exchange for your initial food weakness?

It's been suggested but I'm not a cauliflower fan, unfortunately. I just try to stay clear of pizza and plan if I intend to eat pasta... it's difficult, for sure!

Peanuts , almonds . I replace rice and noodles with konjac rice and konjac noodles. 👍🏼

@Safari_Gal Great idea. Many sushi rolls are made with drizzles of sugary concoctions and other things. At least sashimi keeps it simple and focused on the meat

@Walkywalkerson The only types of cheeses I eat tend to be Italian ones and feta. I still include those in my diet and at full fat. When I eat the full fat cheeses, I just make sure to not eat high carbs that day. I’d say enjoy your cheeses (Kraft singles don’t count) and control the carbs! ❤️

You're not missing much. It has just about the same calories as normal pizza, if not more, so the tradeoff isn't worth it at all if you don't like cauliflower. When I want more vegetables in my diet, I eat vegetable dishes that I like. There is no need to modify perfectly good food unless you like the modified variation and appreciate it as its own thing.

If you’d asked me at the start of this (and I’m pretty sure there are threads around where I stated it!) I’d have said ‘salted peanuts’ but I seem to have conquered that demon this time around! 🤞 I’m no longer tempted by them in the supermarket and on the odd occasion my husband buys some I can take half a handful and not need to go back for more.

These days I seem to have a strong craving for Runner Beans, Broad Beans, Dwarf Beans, Butter Beans etc.

Slightly weird that they also belong to the Legume family, just like peanuts! Wonder if there’s some micronutrient they have in common that my body requires!? 🤔

It used to be certain kinds of sweets, but lately it's salty, crunchy foods, usually at night. It can be anything from lentil chips, pop chips, brown rice crackers, or roasted, salted edamame. I think what it is, I've discovered, is that I'm actually tired so am eating this foods to "wake up" instead of going to bed. I've been having to get up at least an hour earlier than I used to, and I've noticed this increasing.

Litehouse Bluecheese dressing. Just because it's low carb doesn't mean I can drown my food in it! Crazy calories!

I don’t know if I’ve just been lucky or this happens for everyone - but I’ve found the healthier I’ve started eating the more I’ve craved the healthier foods and forgotten the less healthy that appealed before. Pizza and chip shop chips stall play on my mind though so I’d say they’re the weakness.

@RedRobed im finding the same with me. Since I’ve cut out added sugars, I find that I don’t have any sugar cravings. Also, since I’ve been making more stir frys with vegetables—esp broccoli, I’ve been wanting more stir frys with broccoli because it tastes so good to me

Carbs and, lately, chocolate. When I was younger, it was salty things like pretzels and Doritos. (I really need to get this under control.)

@VegjoyP if the sweets are hard to do completely without, try to train your taste buds to do with less sugar. For example, make cake frosting with half or a quarter the amount of sugars you’d normally use and instead increase fat content for satiety. Your body metabolizes sugars and fats differently. I bet your mom made some of the best stuff!

@cwolfman13 you’re right—pasta not inherently bad and portion size is crucial. I travelled to Italy for 3 weeks and saw that they don’t eat the portion sizes of pasta that Americans eat. I tended to overeat pasta and noodles b/c I love it so much. All those carbs break down to sugars, spike insulin, and helps to lead to insulin resistance (which leads to weight gain and obesity). I still do pasta here and there but in smaller portions to make sure I keep my total carb count for the day <100g

ice cream is a bad choice for me; there are a few substitutes I have found that are low fat but, still have sugars, outshine frozen fruit bars, and a recipe for rhubarb cherry jello sorbet. this year, rhubarb and raspberries were not productive in MN because of drought. For crunch and saltiness, I crave sunflower seeds, and buy the small ounce individual packages. another bad choice is raw cookie dough. I just tried an apple peanut butter protein smoothie to do instead of high fat ice cream, also.

@Speakeasy76 Why are you eating to try to stay awake at night?
