So...way behind on keeping up on this site...as usual. I am on page13. Will try to catch up on my lunch break.
Yesterday I closed on my house (selling). I have a lot of mixed feelings but realize that it is best. I haven't lived in it for a while. I owned it before I got married. As I was entering the title office, I saw a katydid on the sliding glass door. I consider it a good sign...a sign of good luck. The whole process took 15 minutes. I was going to run afterward but after running errands, I was starving and drove home instead.
Then I received an email about the race horse which I have a very small (2 shares) interest in her. Her name is "Going To Vegas". I purchased some shares in her in May. Since then she has finished fifth, and then first in the last 3 races. She did so well that she is being entered in the Breeders Cup Turf race for fillies and mares on November 6th. Then they are selling her for her new career as a broodmare. Ugh, I just bought her and started enjoying her. It is really unusual that the horse I picked out would be doing so well. Her best race was a first in a grade 3. She is related to Icecapade, who is a half brother to Ruffian, and I had to pull the trigger.
Next week, I am really going to get back to running. This last weekend I was in Iowa visiting my family. So there were a lot of events (Iowa football) and, of course, great food.
I hope all are having great runs. Have a great weekend.7 -
Did Couch to 5K Week 6 Day 1 today, which is mainly:
Run 5 minutes; walk 3 min
Run 8 minutes; walk 3 min
Run 5 minutes.
Despite a poor sleep in which I was either too cold or too warm, I quite enjoyed my run.
Sorry, I don't know how to do spoilers, but here's where I ran three times (I have a favourite block that's not too hilly).

@RunsOnEspresso Finishing the cross stitch sounds like an awesome idea. I'm sure some walking/hiking would be helpful too.
Glad the kitten found a good home @Teresa502 .
@Tramboman You had more speed than had you been sitting on the couch. Great job getting it done.
@mshawski Glad they are good natured and only aiming to scare you and not hurt you. LOL
That's so scary @sweetdaisy13 . I hope it is a one time event and you can figure out how to reduce your stress. Glad you were able to get out for a run today.
@rheddmobile Glad your lupus flare wasn't bad and you are already feeling better. That trail sounds like a beast. You guys are doing great. Laughed at your comment to your husband. That's a classic.
Congrats on selling your house @ereck44 . Those things can be bitter sweet. I hope your horse does well in Nov. I don't know much about horses, but I didn't think their racing careers last very long. You'll have to find another to invest in. Just curious, will you get a part of the sale price or anything from her offspring?
Sounds like you are doing great @Orphia . What a beautiful place to run!3 -

Played doubles tennis this morning. It was fun, but didn't seem to burn as many calories as normal. I went into work at daycare. I told them I "could" work until 5 if they needed me to, but would like to leave before that if possible. So, I helped them get through the teacher breaks, helped one class wake up from nap, have their snack and get ready to go outside, then left at 3:45.
After I got home, I cleaned my gutters in anticipation of rain tonight/tomorrow. I also did my mile walk on the driveway, waiting for Tippy to get her run out so I could give her a bath. Not her favorite activity, but she's getting better at it. Again, something that needed to be done before the cold front comes through.
She doesn't look real happy to be wet, does she?
Her reward for doing good was a near empty peanut butter jar.6 -

I knew it was supposed to be a windy, rainy day today so I ran 5 miles when I got home from work yesterday.
@sweetdaisy13 – Good to see you and I’m glad you are ok.
Glad you are feeling back to normal @rheddmobile. Love your “encouragement” to your husband on those hills!
@Orphia – what gorgeous blooms! That would be a favorite route for me also.
@quilteryoyo – Tippy looks beautiful. The PB jar reminds me of a co-worker who had a new puppy lab that got out of her crate while everyone was gone one day. When she got home from work she followed his trail of destruction and found him on the bed with a jar of PB that he had stolen off the kitchen counter.
4 -
@Teresa502 Thanks. That's funny about your co-worker's puppy. I'll bet he looked so cute she couldn't stay mad long. Good idea about running yesterday instead of today. It's just nasty out there this morning.1

Drizzle to light rain back to drizzle, upper 50s F, and a refreshing wind. Nearly a perfect day to run. Got my hat and shoes washed; no dog walkers to dodge on the trail, either.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)
2021 Races:

@sweetdaisy13 how scary and I hope that it was just a freak stress reaction and everything is ok. Hugs.
@ereck44 Go Hawkeyes! Do you live in Iowa? Have we talked about this before? I'm from Iowa and went to U of I for grad school. Miss Hawkeye football and basketball.
@quilteryoyo good job getting your gutters cleaned out before the rain and giving poor reluctant Tippy her bath. She looks happy with her reward though!

The plan was to do our October half marathon this morning but a tornado and severe storm warning made us rethink that. There was no tornado that I know of, but a strong storm with lots of lightning did move through right at 7 am when we had planned to meet up. We delayed until about 7:45 and then decided to do just a short run today because more storms were expected and people were short on time. We actually got really lucky though and hit a window between downpours. There was even some blue sky for a bit. It was really humid though despite the cooler temps.
We will try to get the HM done tomorrow although we are likely to get rained on then too. But at least no predicted thunderstorms.7 -
@rheddmobile Glad your lupus flare is subsiding. That trail sounds hard-core! The comment to your husband sounds like what we say to our daughter when she is "dying" on hikes!
Congrats on selling your house @ereck44 . Even when it goes smoothly, home selling and buying is stressful.
@Orphia those trees are beautiful! That would be a favorite spot for me too.
Sounds like a lot of people are getting cooler weather this weekend. We also had a front blow in last night, and you could feel the electricity in the air and all the wind, which is one of my favorite things. This morning, it was in the mid 50s and absolutely beautiful here. Of course, I had to be at work.
I was supposed to do a short run last night after work, but getting out the door after working is getting harder and harder. So, I am going to run on Sunday morning on the hills at the new house in what is supposed to be mid 40's! I am so excited for proper cold weather, I can't wait to do this run! Putting my Friday run off to Sunday also means that with runs both Monday and Tuesday morning, I will have to run 3 days in a row, which I usually don't do. But the distances are short and I'll get better weather so I will take that any day. I am headed out to the other house after work today, so I might talk myself into doing it tonight. Though, I really gotten to where I prefer to run in the morning so probably not.

For everyone who has been dealing with health issues, I hope all of you recover quickly. Being sick is no fun.
Thursday I could leave for work a little later than normal, so I went out around 6:30 and ran 2 miles, then came back and did some brief arm and ab exercises. I really don’t like running when it is so dark, but it was good to get it out of the way since I had evening plans.
This morning I went to my Body Pump class and then ran 2.75 miles on the treadmill. I came home and gave my dogs baths (they are not happy with me but are both napping now), and I put a pork roast and veggies in the crock pot. I have some work to do this weekend, but I am going to relax first with tv and crocheting. I am working on a blanket, and at the rate I’m going, maybe it will be finished by spring. 🤣6 -
It is hard to keep up with the thread when you are out of town, but y'all are doing great!
Ran the 40th annual Peachtree City Classic 15K this morning. This was the 5th year in a row to run it. Every year I run this race it seems I am coming off an injury. So like always, didn't start out to actually race, but about mile 4 decided to go ahead and try to make it a race. It felt harder than all the previous years, and it was my slowest time. But I placed 2nd in my age group. 47/241 overall.
11 -
@katharmonic Thanks. Sounds like you made a good call on the run. Glad you were able to get 4 miles in between the storms.
@marisap2010 Nice running. Your dogs sound like my Tippy when it comes to baths. Good luck with the blanket. I have still to finish quilting a quilt I have had partially complete for years. Just can't seem to fine/take the time to sit down and work on it.
Congratulations on your race @Scott6255 ! You did great to get second place in your AG when you didn't decide to "try" until mile 4.3 -
@ereck44 - congrats on selling your house!
@sweetdaisy13 - hope you are feeling better and get cleared for everything soon. That must have been super scary!
@quilteryoyo - Tippy looks about as thrilled with her bath as Hobbes does after his. I have thought about giving Hobbes a PB jar but have always worried he would get his nose stuck in it.
@katharmonic - not on the same level as Iowa football but we love the Broncos (BSU) and have followed them for years even though I haven't lived in Boise since I was in HS. Today however their game conflicts with the Dodgers in the playoffs 😊
Congratulations @Scott6255 on a great race and 2nd place finish! WHOOT!!!
Thanks to @eleanorhawkins who has nearly double my mileage for the year, we have hit our 2021 miles in 2021!!
I ran yesterday in the hot, dry wind and decided to push today's run to tomorrow when it should be much cooler (from 90's to 70's!). I am finding it hard to breathe when it is so hot and dry (yesterday's humidity was down to 9%). I think I must breathe mostly through my nose and when it is so dry it hurts and then my mouth and throat get so dry too and I end up short of breath.
Looking at my mileage so far this month I need to pick it up if I want to hit goal. Missing two runs because of the flu shot reaction didn't help.

I was sure I posted already, but maybe I didn't hit "post"...
Great job @Scott6255 !!! I'm also impressed with your placement after not being sure you were going to "race" it.
I got a room because of vehicle logistics for tomorrow's race. It's pretty close to the stadium (where we start/finish tomorrow) and there's a concert. But I got my swag, and looked up some local history:
I'm in Gliwice, Silesia, where in 1939 a group of German secret police pretended to be Poles, staged an attack on their own radio station, and used the occasion as pretext for Germany invading Poland and beginning WWII the next day.
Today they're famous for several universities. I had to search to find the answer, but the guy on the fish featured on the shirt and scarf-thingie is modeled after a well known fountain of Neptune located in the city - typically you'd see Neptune along the seacoast, but this one was put up in 1794, after a canal was built that connected them to a river that led to the sea.
Apparently though because of COVID, they've replaced their more touristy race route for having us run up and down a highway, twice, which for me might be harder than going up and down hills around a lake.9 -
martaindale wrote: »WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the September 2021 Monthly Running Challenge which can be found at:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10842357/september-2021-monthly-running-challenge/p1
Anyone can join in, new and old, and if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until October 1, 2021 to start logging your runs!
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:

Note: we also have a group on Strava and Facebook.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.
“I often hear someone say I’m not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.” – Bart Yasso
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” – Confucius
"We all know that if you run, you are pretty much choosing a life of success because of it.” – Deena Kastor
“Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.” – Steve Prefontaine
“Get going … walk if you have to, but finish the damned race.” – Ron Hill
"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." - John Bingham
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay on track.
Kindly remove me from Monthly running challenge because i am having severe calves pain due to varicose veins and i cant run. Best of luck for all the runners . Keep running. You will reach your goal soon .4 -
@shanaber and @eleanorhawkins Congrats on reaching your 2021 in 2021! Awesome!
@shanaber I'm so far behind in my mileage I don't have a snowballs chance in Hades of meeting my goal for the month!
@polskagirl01 Nice swag. Good luck on your race tomorrow. Looking forward to the race report.

You will reach your goal soon .
I’m so sorry to hear that!
Many of us have various injuries, running and otherwise, which have sidelined us in the past. Feel free to stick around if you want - or not - when I was injured and couldn’t run it was too painful reading about others running! But if you want to log walking miles, or progress towards your recovery, you will find nothing but sympathy here, we’ve all been there. Do what’s best for you and I hope you feel better soon!5 -
It is hard to keep up with the thread when you are out of town, but y'all are doing great!
Congrats on AG place and a great race!2 -
@Scott6255 congratulations on your race! Sorry if it didn't feel great but congratulations on your place, sounds like you ran those last miles hard!
@polskagirl01 good luck on your race tomorrow!!! Nice swag. You've got a post-race snickers bar to enjoy, if you haven't eaten it already Can't wait to hear your report.
Congrats @shanaber and @eleanorhawkins on your 2021 in 2021 completion!4
