@starrjulia8 I asked my DD#2 who has a degree in early childhood and family development, how she handled her own situation. She and her 4 month old daughter escaped the abuser. He has had no contact with DGD and only phone contact with our DD for many years now.. I have *()edited to eliminate names but the following is her response regarding what you have told the children.
“I think that’s a good answer.
By the time she (her DD) was four, I think she knew that *(daddy) had bad intentions so we had to stay away from him so we would be safe.

Does anyone make curry? How to I make it healthier (I'm thinking of making that for a couple lunches next week. I do love it and been craving it for awhile, especially with it getting a tad chillier out)

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS: One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.Stick with the process. It DOES work! But it does take time, effort, and most of all, patience!- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

I love curries! Of course mine are vegan. Load 'er up with veggies (I find cauliflower to be particularly awesome, but I always add a variety of veg) and cut way way down on the oil they say to add - you don't need it and spice that baby up! Hope it turns out great.7 -

Had a wonderful BBQ yesterday which was very nice. My first one in 2 years!! I was proud of myself. I had a premier protein shake that morning late around 11:00 am and enjoyed myself in moderation and managed not to gain weight.

Monday is my official weigh-in day. I lost 4.4 lbs. since last Monday.
I am going to keep that as my weigh-in day in case I go back to WW. Yesterday was ok, maybe I gained from Saturday, and I did have some high sodium, but I was not over calories, so I am good. Going to get in a workout today. Hope all is well. Stay safe Everyone.

Yesterday was crazy busy! Multi-tasking all day long lol but I made it without over-eating. Stuck to my computer though. Had so much to do at work. I work remotely most days now which is the result of pandemic. I went to Costco this morning to get in some steps before work and do some shopping. I will get in my steps today for sure. Already over 4500 steps… I did this also because I eat out once a week and chose today to go to Chipotle which is very high in sodium. I will still be under calories but may not see any movement tomorrow again on scale which is fine. I am drinking water and moving more today. So, we will see. Tomorrow morning I plan to get up early and wash my car if weather permits to get in some activity. Thanks for posts and support! I am enjoying the challenge. Happy to have gotten in my steps 2 days in a row. Yesterday I went to the grocery store and did not buy any sweets. I needed fruit. I only had one apple left. I did not drink enough water Thursday. I will drink my quota today and did great yesterday with water. I need to get my steps in again today if I want to get close to 382 goal by Monday. Have a great weekend everyone!!

My journey … "I May Not Be Where I Want To Be, but I’m Not Where I Use To Be!"In 2003 Weighed over 600 lbs.My highest weight was 611 in 2003. Weight in 2004 before weight loss surgery was 580. Lowest weight after surgery was 302 in 2007. "I May Not Be Where I Want To Be, but I’m Not Where I Use To Be!"

I joined MFP on March 27, 2010 weighing in at 388 pounds. I was re-gaining weight and stumbled up on it while trying to get back on track. I was determined never to see 400+ on that scale again for me.
I have been morbidly obese all my life. I have a lifetime of mental and physical scars from obesity. In October 2004 I had Gastric Bypass surgery. WLS (Weight Loss Surgery) was the best gift that I could and did give to myself.
Between 2008 and 2010 I gradually gained back 80 of almost 300 pounds lost initially after weight loss surgery. I never reached my goal weight of 200 pounds. I still managed to keep off over 65 percent of the weight I lost which is very good and I am very proud of my accomplishments since 2004. It has literally changed my life for the better on all levels. I am here to lose re-gained weight and to reach my initial goal weight. I am in no hurry. I am taking this one day at a time and I am in it for the long haul.
Surgery did not fix the head. It is a good tool and the best gift I have given to myself, but it was not the easy way out as many people think. Once the honeymoon period is over after the WLS it is up to the patient to keep the weight off.
On August 29, 2011-- I was admitted to Intensive Out Patient Eating Disorder Program to learn how to manage my binge eating disorder effectively. The program is wonderful indeed and will be instrumental in me reaching all of my goals. The focus of this program was how to eat and not diet. Weight loss was not a goal of the program. I actually gained 20 pounds in program. But I had to get thru a lot of stuff and my the time I was released I had stopped gaining. I was discharged from program on December 3, 2011.
My tool is still working for me today. My head is still the issue. SO the struggle continues. I will never beat myself up again. I fight the fine fight faithfully and positively everyday. Because that is what will get me to my goals one day. Even though it may not show up on the scale every day -- Everyday I make progress one way or another just by showing up, waking up and trying.
Giving up is not an option for me. Perseverance, Patience, & Positive thinking will help me reach my goals…… and the same is true for you too!! We have the power within us. 
*One of my major goals is to get my BMI under 40 (260 weight) so I can have surgery on my knees *[color]

Covid restrictions have mostly been lifted in England – we reached “freedom day” sometime ago, but remember there is still a pandemic: Covid is still around! Continue to wash hands, be kind, wear a mask in public indoor settings, always consider others.Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, It's took me 75 rounds to achieve my under 130 target; back to maintenance again!! A healthy life style has to be a permanent way of life.

10/9 136.4 – 9.1 miles walked yesterday, not too bad a day food wise.
10/10 137.4 – 13.12 miles walked yesterday, good food day, guessing up bounce is still results of bad choices a few days ago. Hope that is the peak!
10/11 137 – no structured walking as travelled up 90 miles to celebrate DS's birthday, involved pizza, chicken legs, potato wedges, birthday cake etc. but no evening meal as we were not hungry after the return journey home!
10/12 137 – 9.53 miles walked yesterday, some unwise food choices means that I was 12 calories over, but could have been worse!
10/13 136.2 – 9.8 miles walked yesterday, then went to help DS in the house she has just bought; scraped 3 layers of wallpaper off the bedroom walls. Very good choices all day, but need to be consistent, really hoping I've turned the corner in getting back unto control.
10/14 136.2 – 11.79 miles walked yesterday, very good food choices, all calories & macros in limits.
10/15 136.2 – 5.52 miles walked yesterday pushing my 20 month old DGS in his buggy, 3.5 hours sitting in the car travelling up to do the caring. A few unwise choices 85 calories over.
10/16 137 – 10.50 miles walked yesterday then went out dancing last night, 2 hours solid on the floor. Came back and after a shower had a couple of late night snacks which meant that although still within calories was over on carbs. 2 days to make a difference.
10/17 135.8 – 13.11 miles walked yesterday, what a gorgeous autumnal day, sat for 45 mins after our picnic half way and soaked up the warm sunshine; totally unexpected !! Calories and all macros in credit.

10/9 149.0 (trend 151.4) Went out last night to a lovely new bar and grill in our little town, it uses all local ingredients and has lots of healthy options, I'm looking forward to eating there one day soon. Had a few too many drinks so woke up feeling really dehydrated which is probably why I had a loss as I was defo over calories.
10/10 150.8 (trend 151.3) Had a bit of a refeed day yesterday and didn't track calories too accurately. Enjoyed some good comfort food and lots of fruit and salad. Definitely holding onto water today but feeling a lot stronger after getting a bit weak and wibbly on low cals last week.
10/11 151.8 (151.4) Urgh, even the trend weight has gone up now. I have to remind myself that I may have over indulged this weekend but only by about 1000 above my calorie goal over the 3 days and should still be below maintenance. This is just water and tmi, surely. A few days of drinking lots of water and careful eating and I should be back on track, fingers crossed. 10/12 152.2 (trend 151.5) Well. I seem to be responding to my weight shooting up by eating more and losing all self restraint. I don't want to go any further with this self sabotage but for some reason I can't stop it. I NEED to get my drive back before all my hard work unravels. Went out for a family meal last night as my daughter has been asking for ages, it's so hard to find healthy choices in some places. I didn't want a plain salad with chicken breast so the next best thing was a veggy lasagne with salad but there was sooo much cheese on it. Told myself I'd leave the garlic bread but I didn't. Then when I got home I got the munchies and ate crackers and cereal bars. Think I need to do a reset to get rid of these cravings.
10/13 150.2 (trend 151.3) Phew, ok! Totm came today so I can stop being so bloody emotional and get a grip! I am NOT destined to be fat forever, I AM in control of this, I CAN achieve my goals! Didn't do much better with self control yesterday but today is a new day and I feel much more focused and determined, no more wallowing!
10/14 149.6 (trend 151.1) Still dropping, good! Same weight as last Thursday but trend weight is almost 1lb lower, so that's progress! Had really bad cramps yesterday and all night, which isn't normal for me. Spent much of the evening on the sofa hurting, thankfully my cat Leesa was laid on my belly purring which really helped, bless her! I wonder if I'll get a loss this round, need to get below 149.0 for that. Food wasn't too bad, within calories but not very in control. I was craving eggs so had veggies with mayo for lunch and scrambled eggs for dinner.
10/15 148.8 (trend 150.8) Yay, a new low today! I'm surprised as I was over calories yesterday, I guess I must have dropped a load of water weight. I finished ripping out the old kitchen and now have no stove or kitchen sink so meals are gonna be a bit tricky for a while. I'll get the camping stove out but camping gas is expensive so I'll try not to use it much. Need to try my best to stay on plan this weekend and not be tempted by takeaways.
10/16 149.2 (trend 150.5) Low energy day yesterday, didn't sleep well the night before so had to rest a lot. Did well with food until the evening when my daughter handed me a big bowl of mashed potato and gravy which I scoffed, ah well it was lush! I might just break even this round. Slept for about 10hrs last night so today should be better. Have to make sure I drink lots of water today.
10/17 148.8 (trend 150.3) Not sure I believe this weight today, my scale didn't want to make its mind up and as I went out last night for a meal and drinks I was really expecting an uptick. I'll take it though and try not to be disappointed tomorrow when it bounces back up!

I do make curry. I don't worry so much about trying to make it healthier, other than maybe subbing a lighter milk for any full fat it calls for. Otherwise I just eat it in small portions. I love my curry, and really don't want to mess with it. I am afraid it will change the flavor. I am ok with having "real" foods that I love and haven't messed with, just in smaller portions and less often.

9 73.3 Met all of my goals again yesterday. Unfortunately, I didn't get my workout in. I am finding it very hard to find the motivation to do it. I need to find a time in the day that works for me.
10 73.9 This was a bit expected. Did some late snacking on popcorn due to being up and out later than expected. Ended up eating some of my exercise calories back due to unexpected events happening during the day and having to make te best choices I could on the fly. Considering I didn't track my food until I got home around 10pm, I think I did alright for the day. I did get a nice long hike in yesterday, so definitely met my step goal.
11 73.3 Back to where it should be. Probably would have been lower, but I made the mistake of eating a slice of Sbarro pizza without looking up the calories first. My lunch ended up being 1000 calories, which is basically all of my days calories!! Luckily, I had only a small, light breakfast, and then only had some salad for dinner with a tzatziki dressing. Managed to com in just a bit over my allowed calories for the day, but made up for the overage with 177000 steps, and some cleaning and a bit of core work. I will not eat anything again (at least anything like that) with out logging it first!

13 72.7 Had some late night popcorn at a friends house while watching a movie. A huge NSV for me though. I measured out 175ml of white wine and used it to make myself 4 spritzers mixing it with bubbly water with a bit of all natural flavoring. Delicious with the added benefits of limited calories and no hangover the next day!

15 73.0 late night snacking has gotten me the last 2 nights. I have also not been managin to get my workout in due to some outside influences. I need to work on getting my workout down first thing in the day so that nothing can stop me from it in.

10/11 - 220.6 (-1.0) It was a beautiful crisp day for a hike yesterday and we did 6 miles with 1,000 ft. of elevation gain. I ate back about 60% my exercise calories. Today is no organized exercise, just lots of errands and moving around.

But what I love about this challenge, is that it looks in terms of ten day cycles. We are only four days in and I’ve already lost a pound. I think I’m just really eager to get into the teens. On 8/15 when I saw her, she suggested MFP after my spending a few years-time both before and after pregnancy- stalled out around 230-240 despite my best efforts with IF. She gave me a goal of a 5% loss between then and this next follow up. Well, I’m currently at 13.6% lost. I’m looking forward to her reaction, I won’t lie! 😁

10/9 211.8 I can’t say I’m surprised by this tiny uptick, only surprised that it isn’t more! I spent almost the entire day on my feet yesterday- and usually when I spend time on my feet in the kitchen, I get some fluid retention. It used to be multiple pounds at a time, not just this tiny 0.2. So I’ll take it! I did pretty good yesterday. Food was on point, but I didn’t get all of my steps in. I was so exhausted from the past couple of days that I just couldn’t motivate myself to do anything other than crash once I finally finished in the kitchen last night. Today I’ll hit it though!
10/10 212.4 I guess the fluid retention from spending the past couple of days mostly on my feet waited till today to show up. I had a great day yesterday- 45 net carbs and hit my step goal. But alas, I was on my feet in the kitchen decorating a cake for about 4 hours. Oh well, at least I have an explanation for it!
10/11 211.4 There we go! Great day yesterday, even with a family dinner with out-of-town family that involved spaghetti and dessert. I took my own spaghetti squash along to eat in place of the regular pasta, and only had very small portions of dessert. Did go over my carb goal-88 net total all day- but came home, got my steps in, and got myself on the Pelo for 45 minutes! I’ve been feeling a little slacking on the weight loss lately, so today I’m recommitting to myself. I’m ready to rock this week!

10/13 211.4 I’m not sure what happened here. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m cutting my carbs too low. Finished the day at 51 net carbs, pelo ride done, and step goal achieved. I think I’m going to aim for the higher end of my carb goal for the next few days and see what happens. 209 is playing hard to get!
10/14 211.6 it’s the stress, I’m sure. I’ve had a very stressful week. I stuck to my food plan- finished yesterday with 73 net carbs. I fell about 1,500 steps short on my step goal, and postponed strength training till today because of everything going on. Back on track today!
10/15 210.4 Down finally, after a much less stressful day yesterday! I changed things up and ended the day at 105 net carbs. I hit my step goal, and also rode the Pelo. I changed my routine on that too, so maybe that helped a bit too. Who knows? Our bodies are mysterious creatures at times! I’m heading into this camping weekend with a plan, and I’m determined to still see 209 before that decimal come Monday morning. I got this!
10/16 🏕 DNW Had a great day yesterday. Hit my step goal and finished the day with 71 net carbs. Only issue is that I didn’t get in the strength training session I had planned because I just got too busy with getting things ready to go camping. I want to make it up, but I’m not going to fret if I don’t get to. I do want to change my strength routine up, but I gotta figure out how so. I want to do heavier lifting than I’ve been doing.

Well, that was a surprise! Weighed in at 180.2 this morning, so weight and running average both the lowest they’ve been in well over a year. I figured I’d be up with higher calories, but I was just plain hungry yesterday, so I ate. Another reminder of the weird vicissitudes of weight management.

Weight stayed the same, average trending down, despite higher calories the past 3 days. I won’t count on that, but it confirms that it’s good sometimes to break from the very low count. Anyway, aiming lower (~1200) the next few days. I’ve been in the 180s since Jan 2020 (up from 130 in Sept 2018–horrifying!) and I’d really like to get out of the 80s to feel I’m really on my way back down.

Previous days10/9 Not sure what my weight was because I didn’t have my glasses on, so it was fuzzy…I think it might have said 120 which is an OH NO number. WAY too much salt this week for me. I managed to walk the lake with my friend this morning which is like 3 miles then we hit the farmer’s market afterwards where I was able to resist buying anything. I decided last night that I need to start having “take out” food alternatives for myself in the freezer for when my husband wants takeout and I don’t want to cook for myself. I’ve worked so hard the past almost two years to let it slip now. So at least I can control the number of calories I’m eating that way versus the unknown with the takeout. I was even able to unintentionally fast until at least 1 today because I didn’t eat before my walk and didn’t get anything at the market. Then afterwards I had to return something to the camping store… where I proceeded to browse and buy myself a new day pack, some cool weather running shirts, a pair of cold weather leggings, and compression socks (going to try them for during the day while I use my standing desk). I got the compression socks because in the mornings my legs a little tired after I run but I still want to use the standing desk, so I’m going to see if the compression socks help at all with feeling like I just want to elevate my legs. I’m not sure they’ll help but it’s worth a shot.10/15 Did not post
10/10 118.2 Dropped some water weight which is good. I would still like to get back to 115/116 over the next month or so to be in more of my happy place. I thought I hit the post button last night but I guess I forgot. Ooops! Not sure what’s on the agenda for today but looking forward to eating some healthy food. I made a frittata yesterday with leeks, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese. So that’ll definitely be part of my first meal today along with a protein shake. I’m going to attempt some sort of meal planning today as well even though I don’t know what produce I’ll be getting with our CSA tomorrow. At least I can plan the protein portion of our meals.
10/11 117.6 pre-workout 116.2 post work out this morning. Goodbye water retention! I have the day off today, so I went for a run and ended up doing 5 miles and then did my strength workout afterward. I did the strength workout after because with my day off, I knew I wouldn’t want to do the workout in the middle of that day like I do when I’m working. I also made some major strength gains in my chin ups, so that was a really good feeling. The last time I did chin ups I was doing 3 sets of 4-6. This morning I was able to do 8 for my first set and then 6 and 4. So, that was an awesome non scale victory.
Breakfast so far has been a protein shake with Designer Whey vanilla blended with a pear, peanut butter, inulin to keep my belly happy, cinnamon, and water clocking in at 489 calories. So yummy! Lunch will be an egg salad sandwich and dinner will be soup with broth that has been cooking in the croc pot over night with chicken bones from our meat csa.

10/12 117.4 pre-workout 116 post workout. Did a 45 minute spin bike ride this morning. This morning for breakfast I made a protein smoothie with vanilla whey powder, kale, a pear, inulin, cinnamon and peanut butter. I’m not sure what lunch will be but dinner will be leftover homemade veggie soup.
10/13 117.2 Woke up hungry last night around 3 in the morning. I haven’t been wearing my running watch because I left it at my cousins house a few weeks ago and I don’t think I’m calculating my calories well without it. I ran 4 ish miles this morning and then did my strength workout. During the strength workout I was definitely tired and noticed it in the amount of reps I was doing felt like a lot even though it was my normal routine. So I’m going to try and eat a little bit more today to see if it helps.
I did the strength workout this morning because I’ll be getting my flu shot today and didn’t want to deal with a sore arm while working out. Breakfast was my shake clocking in at 450ish calories along with some Lion’s Mane and Turkey Tail mushroom powder. I started adding the mushroom powders to my shake because I forgot we had them in the cabinet and want to see if the Lion’s Mane helps with my focus during work. Medicinal mushrooms are super interesting to me, so we’ll see if I notice anything.

10/14 DNW today. Ran about 4 miles this morning. We had Chipotle for dinner last night, I was within calories but it’s so salty. I woke up with my hands feeling stiff because of all the salt/water retention, I think. Planning to make pulled pork or carnitas for dinner tonight, I haven’t decided which yet.

10/17 Did not weigh this morning because I know I’m retaining water from sodium. Ran on both Friday and Saturday. Today is a total rest day for me. Food was meh yesterday but today will be more on point. I’m also going to be drinking a lot of water because I was lacking water yesterday.

10/10- 182.8 yesterday I had a good time. a friend invited me to go over for dinner and couldn’t resist the empanadas and tiramisu 😃. I biked close to 18K. Goal for this week is to get as close as possible to 180lbs…

10/9 / 204.4 / Did well with my first day at my dad's yesterday. I love being with people who you feel safe with (meaning he is completely supportive and doesn't judge my choices or try to food push). A bit harder to get my normal exercise in here but that's okay - just scaling back the food accordingly. Happy to see this lower weight wasn't just a fluke yesterday!
10/10 / 206.4 / My dad's town has two take-out options and the favorite when we're here is always Chinese. I tried to order as best I could and eat reasonably but you can't stay away from the sodium gain afterwards. We are going to Thanksgiving dinner 1 of 2 today.
10/11 / 206 / Had good control during Thanksgiving dinner #1 yesterday. One more to get through today and then I'm back on the road tomorrow heading for home. A bit out of my exercise routine while traveling which is fine but it will feel good to get back to it.
10/12 / 205.6 / Got through Thanksgiving dinner #2... enjoyed the yummy food without overdoing it 11 hour drive home today, will hit the Peloton bike when we get home.

Back to work today.. woke up at 230 am and couldn't get back to sleep so after tossing and turning I got up, weighed in and got to work on the bike and with some yoga. 10/17 / 207 / Not the progress I meant lol. Had a great day yesterday, well over 11K steps plus yoga, food was within calories. Sodium was likely high. Unfortunately unless I have a big whoosh I'll be gaining this round, but I'll just keep on working the plan!
