I remembered that I had running clothes and trail shoes in my car so when I left work yesterday I headed to a local park and ran the trails there before going home. It was a beautiful Fall afternoon. Some of the trails were technical with lots of exposed roots and rocks and the fallen leaves added an extra layer to the footing.
Sending good thoughts to Hobbes for his surgery @shanaber – keep us posted.

@AlphaHowls - So sorry to hear about your mom. Lots of good vibes being sent your way. 🍀@Teresa502 wrote: »Hugs and prayers to you @AlphaHowls. How blessed your mom has been to have you to care for her all these years. I’m sure it has required a lot of personal sacrifice from you. I hope that I can do the same for my parents if/when that time comes.@AlphaHowls I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I will be sending prayers for you and your family. Wow! Have you really been taking care of her since 2007? That's a really, really long time.
Yes, I have. I actually moved in with her summer 2000 after my divorce. July 4, 2007 my mother fell off the roof of our home. Both our lives changed in an instant.@marisap2010 wrote: »@AlphaHowls I’m sorry to hear about your mother. She has been very lucky to have you caring for her.

I forgot to post my run yesterday. I was tired and headachy when I got home from work. They are re-staining the baseboards in my office building this week. So there have been a couple of guys sanding and staining in the hallways. The fumes and the noise are so annoying. I can shut my door and open the window, but there is a pumpjack in the parking lot outside my window. Pumpjacks are loud. I hope they finish up soon. I didn't even think the baseboards looked bad.
So yesterday the plan was a base run, 5 miles in 48 minutes at a 9:48 pace. I ran 6 miles in 1 hr 6 minutes at an 11:05 pace. Hal gave me 104% and said "perfectly executed". Today the plan was a HM Pace run of 8 miles in 1 hour 10 minutes with an 8:48 pace. So I ran 8.1 miles in 1 hr 30 minutes at an 11:10 pace. Hal gave me 80% today, but still said "perfectly executed". Not sure how 80% is perfect, but oh well. Today's run felt tougher than yesterday's. The weather has been really nice, but I was tired today. 8 miles on a weekday is really pushing it for me. This was the last "sorta long" Run. Sunday will be 12 miles and then the plan has a slight taper before the race. I feel about as ready as I am going to get. Now I just have to figure out the logistics of getting from the race at Possum Kingdom Lake, to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens for my niece's baby shower. I think I have plenty of time to get from PK to FW, but not really time to go home in between.
@quilteryoyo We did get Mom an Apple watch. She already has an iPhone. I'm not sure about fall detection on other watches. My Garmin 45s has it, but only during activities.
@shanaber Sending hugs to you and Hobbes.

Help!!
I've had a couple of runs recently where during a slight down hill I've felt a pop behind my right knee. It doesn't hurt, but last time it happened - about 2 weeks ago - I had discomfort for the next 2 days. Not pain, just, altered sensation. Then was all good. This morning I felt the same pop.
Anyone had this? Part of me thought it was old shoes, but I was wearing a different pair today.7 -
Short 3.5 mile run whilst waiting for youngest Son to come out of after school club.
I'm actually enjoying this 'less is more' malarkey. Running a lot less, due to circumstances out of my control (limited opportunity to run, plus wasn't well a few weeks ago) and I usually run 100+ miles a month but this is the second month in a row where I won't meet it.
I'm surprisingly 'Ok' with this, I'm enjoying running rather than it feeling like a chore sometimes, plus I'm actually allowing my body to recover. No knee pain whatsoever and no cramp in my foot at night. It's a win win.

Nice running everyone.
Thanks @kgirlhart for the information on the watch. You are going to do great in your race.

Today was my latest Couch to 5K session.
10 minute run; 3 min walk; 10 min run.
That ended up being nearly 3 km.
My main problem is finding somewhere not hilly - I'm trying to avoid hills but it's not really possible, hahaha. I did repeat a flat section.
@Scott6255 My Ghost 13s feel like a harsh ride, especially with orthotics in them, so I've put them aside for a while too, and have been using my Nike Infinity Reacts.
@CarsonSurfs Nice goals and chart!7 -
Coach Greg had me run at an 11:32-12:32 pace today, which feels sooooo slow. My watch kept telling me to slow down. We’ll see how this training plan goes. I’m sure I’ll eat my words in a few weeks.6

Never had exactly that but I have wonky knees with all sorts of things wrong - there’s a massive nerve behind the knee that goes to the entire lower leg, and it’s easy to tweak it. Does the sensation go in any particular direction? Big toe feel weird?
Do you have any bulging behind your knee? Before it ruptured, my Baker’s cyst would move around and pop. Check when both knees are fully extended, move your feet around and see if the backs feel identical.
Could be a bit of cartilage being weird in your knee.2 -
Have run twice since last post, Tues was 5k intervals, working on recovering from a fast pace without slowing to a walk. Not bad.
Walked trails in the wetland area and lifted yesterday, weather was too gorgeous not to get out there even though I don’t run on lifting days. Saw the world’s tiniest snake!
Tiny snek is a young ring necked snake, he’s about four inches long and was sitting in the middle of the bike trail, so motionless that we poked him with a stick to be sure he wasn’t dead. Nope, alive as can be! But very sluggish, we had to prod him repeatedly to get him off the trail, and just in time because the entire track team went thundering by right as we got him to leave. The high school track team gives me youth envy, they are all so effortlessly beautiful and fast!
Ring necked snakes are supposedly one of the most widely distributed and possibly the most numerous snake in America, which is funny because I had never seen one before! They are small and shy and mostly nocturnal. One study done in Kansas estimated there are more than 500 ring necked snakes per hectare, which is about 3 acres. That’s a lot of sneaky snakes! They are venomous, but rear-fanged, and can’t bite humans. They eat mostly tiny salamanders, bugs, and worms and are hugely important to the ecology. Nice to learn something new!
Today we tried the technical trails at Chuckalissa again, tried to run both the uphills and the flats. Shaved five minutes off our previous best around the loop. We are still so slow! But our conditioning is getting better. I still don’t foresee being able to run the rooty, uneven downhills - it would be fine unless you caught your foot on a root, and then you would die. And I am just not that reliably nimble, it would be rolling dice. But we felt stronger on the rest of it!7 -
Had a nice little Fall run this morning. But when I reached for my awesome little soft-flask for water about 2.5 km in, it wasn't there. I had taken my pack off to get a jacket out, maybe it fell out there, or maybe it was back at home in my car. Didn't make sense to go back, so I kept going. At the end of my run, I circled back to the apartments where I put the jacket on, and found it in the trash can at the bus stop. But now I'm confused, because it's empty. Did someone find it, drink the water and then toss the bottle? Let's just say I washed it extra well and will probably let it dry and wash it again, haha. It's a good little bottle!
Fall pics and the water flask I'm talking about. It's perfect for short runs.Actually, is that the symbol for dishwasher safe? Or hand wash only? I've only ever hand washed it.7 -

Hmm @Orphia, that's interesting you are experiencing hard impacts with your Ghost13s too. Are you normally a Ghost fan?
@polskagirl01 that was brave of someone to drink out of your water bottle (and a little sad if they were desperate enough to do that). But glad you found it!
Had a nice 7 mile run this morning. It was a pretty dang good run. Felt easy and comfortable.

@Orphia I don't recall where you live, but it sounds like here. If you run outside, not on a track, there is really no place to run that is flat. It's just the nature of the beast. You are doing great with the C25K.
@rheddmobile Nice running. You are doing great to shave that much time off of your previous loop. Those downhill portions don't seem to be conducive to running at all. Those wetlands pictures remind me of Louisiana swamps. I'm surprised they are near Memphis. I have seen ring neck snakes here. My mom is deathly afraid of snakes, but she actually said one she saw was "cute." I had just hatched, as it was only about 2 inches long. They are cute. I figure they couldn't bite humans because they are so small. I don't think they could open their mouths far enough. LOL
Beautiful pictures @polskagirl01 . I'm glad you found your water flask. It is weird about it being empty though. I'm with you, I'd make sure to sanitize it very well before using it again. I looked up the symbol. It means it's "food safe." Well, of course it would be since you are drinking from it. I'd continue to hand wash it.
@Tramboman Enjoy your day. I love old covered bridges.
Glad you had a good run this morning @Scott6255 .

Uneventful run this morning. Decent weather. Saw my trail friend and I tested out my tank top and headband for my costume that I will wear for the Wine & Dine HM in just a couple of weeks. Everything worked perfectly.
I picked up some more gels yesterday and the 1 that I really liked wasn’t there. Of course. So I got some different flavors of some of the others that I tried and avoided the Maurten. They also had a new one I haven’t heard of before, Hammer. So I grabbed a couple of those too and a Roctane, which I didn’t try the first time around. I was worried about tolerating the gels, but since that has turned out to not be an issue I am enjoying getting to mix it up a bit and try several different flavors. I’ll try out the Hammer tomorrow and report back.5 -

I met a couple of friends for 5 miles this morning and then I ran another 5 miles by myself. I’m signed up for a Wilderness Survival Class which lasts all day tomorrow so thought I had better get a long run in today.
@polskagirl01 – According to Google, that’s the symbol that the item is safe to come into contact with food. Do you have bleach that you could dilute in soapy water to wash it in again? The pictures are gorgeous!
Thanks for the info on the ring neck snake @rheddmobile. Glad you saved it!
I bet it’s a beautiful day for your trip @Tramboman – share pictures with us please!
@Scott6255 and @Orphia – Ya’ll are scaring me! I just bought a new pair of the Ghost 13s.
