@Tramboman Way to get the slog done yesterday. Way to get out in the rain this morning. Glad you didn't step on the squirrel. That would have been bad for both or you.
Thanks @martaindale It's nice to find new places to run. Enjoy your camping this weekend and can't wait to see the pictures of the trail.
Impressive @johnisrunning !
@CarsonRuns Enjoy those trails. You will likely have them all to yourself.
Nice run @sweetdaisy13 .
You are doing great @Orphia . Sounds like it is likely that you had a visual migraine. I'm having one at the moment. Mine are usually a twirling aura of colored lights that start as a spot and then moves out toward the edge of my vision in a semi circle, or vise versa. Google visual migraines and see if any of the pictures they have there are similar to what you saw. Others have different experiences. Having said that, if it is something you have never had before, it wouldn't be a bad idea to discuss it with your doctor or eye doctor.
@rheddmobile I hope the lupus flare gets better soon. That albino raccoon is really cool.

This morning I ran the Trek or Treat 10K. It is a pretty hilly course. Temps were in the low 50s, so it was perfect for running. It wasn’t my best 10K, but I did place 3rd in my age group, so I got a medal! I also met up with someone from my local SRTT running group, and she placed 2nd in the same age group.
A lot of people wear costumes for the 5K and the kid’s race, but not so much for the 10K. I just wore my sugar skull shirt.8 -
@marisap2010 congrats on your 10K AG medal!
@rheddmobile yes I hope you get some relief from your lupus flares. I have never seen an albino raccoon before. Very cool!
@martaindale enjoy your camping trip. It's great weather.
14 miles this morning. First time in a very long time I had to wait for it to warm up before going out to run. May have waited a little too long, but it was very nice low 50s and light wind. It felt really good 😊. Had a 70's Spotify mix going and I really enjoyed it. Made my goal this month. That's it for October.

Tried some new trails today at Umstead State Park. Chose a 6.1 mile out and back. It was a good combination of easy and technical. I took a wrong turn and accidentally doubled back at one point. I realized it when I got to a bridge I had already crossed. Turned around and went back to it and decided to make this my long run for the week. I intended to do a cut back week anyway so I only needed 90 minutes for my long run. This trail had some very pretty stream crossings with water cascading over the rocks.
Ended up with 7.2 miles in an hour 27 or so. Puts me at 28.3 miles over goal, I think.9 -

I ran at the beach this morning. It was a nice 55F when I headed out for 10 miles around 8:00 am. We didn’t arrive until almost midnight last night and just ate a few snacks on the 6-hour drive down so I was not feeling fueled or refreshed when I headed out. My right piriformis was little achy when I finished so I tried to stretch it extra. I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow – yay! Had a nice walk on the beach this afternoon. I don’t know how/why people run in that loose sand. It was a workout for me to just walk in it! Planning on a 7 mile run in the morning to meet my goal for October.
@Orphia – Scary about the flash. Hope it doesn’t happen again.
Have a great trip @shanaber. You have been so busy you deserve some down time!
@rheddmobile – hope your flare-up is resolved soon. Thanks for the picture of the albino raccoon. Never seen one!
Hope your migraine goes away soon @quilteryoyo.
Congrats on your age group placement @marisap2010!! Well done and you have a beautiful smile!
Congratulations on making your monthly goal @Scott6255 and exceeding yours @CarsonSurfs!

Have you ever had ocular migraines? Your description doesn’t sound exactly typical but it’s the only thing I can think of which would go away with eating.ContraryMaryMary wrote: »25 minute run! (Previous post-illness best was 22 minutes.)

I used to get flashing a lot, sometimes for up to 10 seconds. Used to freak me out. I was told it was related to blood pressure - mine used to be highish (naturally occurring hypertension) and since having baby number 2, which fixed my hypertension (don’t know how but it did - weirdly) I rarely get it. Only when I get up suddenly, which reinforces the idea that it’s blood pressure related (although in this instance my blood pressure is probably low). Worth chatting to your GP about but not something I’d rush off to ER for.
Thanks @shanaber @rheddmobile @ContraryMaryMary
I used to get flashing then migraines, but haven't for nearly 10 years. Yesterday I didn't get a headache after.
This was more like a big bright "floater" in the bottom right of my vision.
I did notice that I couldn't tell which eye was affected, by closing one eye then the other, which made me think it wasn't retinal detatchment.
I do get low blood pressure, and get dizzy when I stand too quickly.
One thing, just after I finished my first marathon, my eyesight went pale, whitish until I'd eaten a few things.
Back then I asked my optometrist about that and I think she said it was lack of blood/energy to the optic nerve, and not to worry because it got better after food, and to make sure I ate enough during and after runs.
I've made a doctor's appointment for next week and will ask then if this sound like it's similar.

Congrats on your AG placement @marisap2010 ! Love the picture of you and your friend.
Great running @Scott6255 . I love running to 70's music. Congrats on making your goal for the month.
Sounds like a really nice run @CarsonSurfs !
Thanks @Teresa502 . I think it is amazing that you run when you are at the beach! I just can't seem to make myself go out when I'm on vacation. As for my migraine, it went away in about 20 minutes. They usually don't last too long. More irritating than anything else.
@Orphia Glad you are going to ask the doctor about your vision. Since something similar has happened before, my guess is it was a visual migraine. When I have mine, I rarely get a headache. But, it is good to get it checked out and make sure.
I did a 2.0 mile run on the treadmill this afternoon. It felt good while running, but my back is a little tighter than normal now. I did do my stretches. I'll ice it tonight and hope it's all good tomorrow. I don't want to have to revert to just walking again. LOL I think it is okay since it is just tight and not really painful.

Finally was able to get out for a run today. We had friends bringing over their puppy for a playdate and I needed to get home and shower so had to make it shorter. It was cool when I started but warmed up quickly. I had some stomach issues and was too far from home to turn back so ran (walked fast) to the bathrooms on the trail and then was able to run just fine. Later on the way home my hamstring started complaining so when it got too loud I walked a bit. Also stopped once to just do some leg swings to loosen things up a little. It is interesting that I am finding when my hip is tight my hamstring starts in. I suspect at some point I may need to get a shot in my hip but I am not ready for that yet. Hoping to get one more run in tomorrow to close out the month, but I definitely won't make my 100 mile goal. It's ok - I have gotten lots of exercise moving furniture and cleaning out this house.

Ran a new Greenway today. First mile with my wife and then we split up. I did a total of six miles, easy effort.
This was a cut-back week for me, so I totaled 32.7 miles for the week.
The monthly goal was 125 miles; I did 159.3.
Great running everyone! See you in November!8 -
I didn't see November started yet, so I made an attempt:

Great running everyone! Congrats @johnisrunning on a new monthly personal mileage best. That's fantastic.
Thanks for setting up November @Scott6255 . It's hard to believe it's November already. Where has this year gone?
Due to back issues, I seriously missed my running goal. I only ran 10.5 miles the entire month. That's pitiful. I did walk 37 though. At least I wasn't sitting on the couch. I'm hoping November will be much better.4 -
So yesterday was supposed to be the Auckland Half, which was cancelled. I had great ideas about running my own half, but when I headed out yesterday running was simply slow, then I ran out of steam. I had two hours scheduled but only managed just over 19km in that time, so I skipped the extra 2km and went home for lunch instead.
Finished the month with 247.65. Maybe I should have done that extra 2km... (make that 2.35km).7 -

10/31: 4.51 miles
119.74/111 miles completed for October
The plan only called for 2 miles in 19 minutes at a 9:27 pace today. I know this is the taper before the Half, but I just couldn't only run 2 miles today. The weather was just lovely and so I ran 4.5 miles in 47 minutes at a 10:30 pace. I figured that was still a lot less than I usually run on Sundays so it seemed like a reasonable thing to do. It was a really nice run. I didn't want to get too far from home so I just ran through the cemetery then to the park and around the birdhouse park. I thought that would get me 4 miles, but it was about half a mile more than I thought it would be. It was a nice run though and I would have liked to run more, but I am sort of trying to follow the plan. 😆
That closes out October for me at 119.74 miles. If I had realized I was that close to 120 I would have run a little further today. !
@rheddmobile That albino racoon is really neat. There used to be an albino skunk in my neighborhood growing up, but I've never seen an albino racoon.
@Orphia I'm glad you are getting it checked out. I was thinking maybe it was an ocular migraine.
Congratulations on your race @marisap2010!
Great running everyone! I'll have to think about November's Goal. See you all over in that thread. Thanks for setting it up @scott6255

Ended the month with the most mileage I’ve done in months.
Saturday I ran a local 5K the Spooktacular 5K, I’ve run it a few times in the past but not lately. It was a lot of fun. I’ve been doing paces of between 13:00 and 14:00 in my daily runs, I was so excited to do a pace of 12:09 for this. I was actually shocked and crying at the end. My first mile was under 12 and I felt great the whole race. I finished 4th in my AG.
