WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.

We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.

Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until October 1, 2021 to start logging your runs!

After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).

Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):

^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.

I will be conservative and only set a goal for 100 miles, since I'm sure there will be holiday interruptions going on this month 😏5

Thanks for setting us up @Scott6255. Looks like it worked just fine!
I'm in but we have so much going on I am going to go low and say 75 miles this month. Would love to get back to the 100 mile club but maybe in December or January if things settle down a little.6 -
Since my Garmin training plan only shows me 1 week in advance, I have no idea about mileage. My goal will be to complete all 16 training runs for the month.8

I am firmly on track for nothing this month between the plantar fasciitis and an upcoming surgery (not the foot), but think I'll be back by January, maybe late December.10 -

My last best (post-illness) run was 3.1 km on Saturday, so this month my goal is to do a 4 km run.9

I am going to play on only running a couple of miles 3 times next week and then start at mid stream with the Matt Fitzgerald Beginning 10K plan. I had started his intermediate plan, but think I'd be safer with the beginning one at this point. I may run more than it calls for on some days, if all is going well. Based on the plan, my goal is going to be 50 miles running and 30 miles walking at a fast pace.8

I'm in! In October I ran 6 times. I've been logging by time rather than distance, but my typical pace is 11:40-12:00 miles. My November goal is to run a total of 300 minutes. It's a bit of a stretch, but I'll aim for it!8

As usual, I will optimistically say 100 miles. But realistically that's probably going to be tough as I'm going to be away the first 3 weekends. I'm a little concerned about when my HM will happen this month, but it may have to be a Thanksgiving week event.4 -

Another month, another set of goals. I'm running a half marathon on the 20th, so there'll be some tapering in the coming weeks. More importantly, I enter November 308 miles away from my goal for the year. So, it looks like the plan is going to be 158 miles in November and 150 in December to get there.
Recovery run this morning. Kept my heart rate down, but this was much slower and much more fatigued than usual, which is not surprising since I put myself through a lot this weekend.

After last month's discussion about race shirts, it got me to thinking (scary, I know) about my shirts. So, my question is as follows:
What is the oldest race shirt that you still posses (with picture)?
What was the result of that race?
How much have you improved at that race distance?
I'll go first.
The oldest shirt I have is from the 2006 Baltimore Half Marathon. This was my first half marathon and I ran 1:57:28. My half marathon PR came 6 years later in September of 2012 at the Hidden Treasure Half Marathon where I ran 1:28:05.

I'm going to say 100 miles for November. I'm not really sure what I will run after my Half on Saturday though. We will see.
Today was a rest day so I did some yoga and walked 2 miles this morning but no run. 😕 I hate when the first is on a rest day. I feel so behind.
I only have 2 runs before the race, 4 miles tomorrow and 4 miles on Thursday. I'm still trying to decide what to wear on Saturday. It is supposed to be in the 40's so it will be the coolest temperature I have run in this season, but I don't want to be over dressed.7 -

I am pretty sure I have most all of mine, including my first real race. The HM at the Long Beach Marathon and Half in October, 2012. I had only been running a year, maybe, and a friend entered me and ran it with me. All of my race shirts are in storage for now so I can't check until we get back in our house next week, assuming I can find them again.
No run for me to start off the month. We are heading up north for a couple of days and I will maybe run but for sure there will be lots of walking and hiking along the ocean (Fiscalini Preserve!!)

I'm going to shoot for 60 running miles in November. I'm not going to track the walking mileage this month, because it's mostly just my 1 mile walk before I start running.
I started with 3miles this morning.
November mileage:
R: 3/60

Total shoe mileage: 74.56 -
3 miles to start the month.
MTD: 3
Race shirt question: I've been running off and on since 2004 but I started racing in 2012. My first shirt is a 2012 turkey trot race at my college. I still have it because it was also my dad's first race. So it's kind of a physical memory of him (and his bday sometimes falls on Thanksgiving so there's also an extra thing that always makes tday a little more meaningful to me)7 -
Ugh, I can't edit my post to add we actually ran the race together. Like before he realized he was age group fast. 🤣
We ran a few other races together but I told him to go ahead and leave me lol5 -

The oldest shirt I still have is from the 2012 Maine half marathon. It did not go well, though it was possibly the most memorable of all the races I've run because of this. There were people dressed up as clowns at mile marker 8. I do not do clowns. I cannot stress how badly I do not do clowns enough. Sprinting ensued. It went downhill from there. I'm not sure my running has improved since then, that's actually the shape I'm angling to work back to, but I did learn a whole lot about zoning out spectators during races! I'll try to get a pick of it for a future post as it's currently in the laundry I'm currently refusing to recognize needs to still be folded and put away.

My plan is a little flexible this month to allow for some recovery post HM this weekend, but looks like 70 miles should be a reasonable goal.
I got caught up on October but had to tell this story here. I ran some trails during my camping trip this weekend and had my first legit running fall. They had recut a portion of the trail and there were several very low cut stumps along a portion of the path. I hit one of the stumps that was hiding in the fallen leaves and fully left the ground a la superman. I have a blooming bruise about the size of a small recently cut tree on the top of my left knee (3-4 inches across) and a smaller one on the bottom of my right knee. No real cuts as I was wearing tights and they took the brunt of it and my hands are in good shape. I actually think the rock climbing has made me a good faller. You learn how to fall kind of loose and roll out of things while not trying to break your fall or catch yourself. That muscle memory kicked in and I fell pretty well, all things considered.
I ran another couple of miles before making my way back to camp.

For this month I will put in for 30 miles of walking. We will see how it goes. Hip is feeling a little better and I did a couple big walks last week that weren’t to painful.8
