Awesome work @kgirlhart - that urge to slow in the last few kilometres is also overwhelming. Well done on resisting it. Sounds like you executed an excellent race. And awesome result with your PR, age-group placement, and spot prize!1

November Goal: 100 Miles
11/2: 4.03 miles
11/4: 4.04 miles
11/6: 13.18 miles
21.25/100 miles completed for November
Race Report: Today was the Half Marathon I have been training for. It was really nice weather.Β It was the coolest run I have had so far this season. But there was no wind and the sun was shining. I wore shorts and a t-shirt and started out with sleeves and gloves. Last year when I ran this race IΒ missed a turn after mile 12 and ended up with 13.5 miles.Β My official time was 2:11(which was a PR)and my Garmin gave me 2:07:57 for a HM that day. So my goal for today was to beat 2:11 and hopefully to beat 2:07:57.
The race started and I went out a little too fast as I always do. I was running side by side with a woman for the first two miles but then she pulled ahead of me, but I was able to keep her in sight. The run was so pretty and even though I slowed a little I was still on pace and feeling good. I took my gloves off around mile 3 and pulled my sleeves down. I took the sleeves off and stuck them in my pocket about a mile later. This race is an open road race and there seemed to be more traffic than in past years, but things were going well. Around mile 8 I noticed that the woman ahead of me was walking and holding her hip. When I caught up to her I asked if she was OK and she said she was, but she was having some hip problems.Β So I went on. By this time I was getting tired. But I knew I was getting closer so I ran on. I did take some chews during the race. Last year I started having leg cramps after about mile 12. I think that was a lot of the reason I made the wrong turn. (Plus the guy ahead of me took the wrong turn so I followed him.) So I was hoping to avoid the cramps and make my turn. This time I did not miss the turn and soon I was in the final stretch.Β The last two miles were pretty tough.Β I was feeling slow and really had to push myself if I wanted to get my PR. There was definitely a part of me that wanted to slow down,Β but I knew I would be disappointed in myself if I did. I did slow down some, but not on purpose,Β and I didn't stop. My husband was waiting to cheer me into the finish which always helps.Β I ended up with a time of 2:07:11. So it was a PR and I got first in my AG. And I won a door prize which was a case of beer.
After the race I drove over to Ft. Worth for a baby shower.Β It was really nice. I finished the quilt and my niece seemed to really like it.
So it has been a really busy day and I haven't had a chance to read anything yet, but I wanted to post this.Β I'll go back and catch up, but right now I am looking forward to the extra hour of sleep we get tonight.Β

Todayβs run called for 50 minutes at 11:13-12:13 pace. I ended up a little fast with an average of 11:06. It was in the 40s when I started but quickly warmed, and I ended up shedding my long sleeved layer halfway through. With an added warmup and cooldown, I completed 5.08 miles.
Training runs: 4/16
Total miles for month: 12.228 -
7 Nov total 42.64 out of 150 goal. 241.72 left for run the year so need to avg 4.48 the rest of the year to complete on time. I have really been enjoying the weather and yesterday decided to challenge myself to a 5K run later on. Was happy to have an avg 8:58 per mile time as even tho I have a lot of under 10 min splits this year, I have less than 100 under 9 min. 8:22 is my fastest time for a mile and that was back in March. I was hoping to see something under 8 this year but not sure I have that in me. I have mostly increased my times by increasing tempo and speed work.

4-Nov 5.03

Sounds like you are on the mend @Scott6255.
Glad your back is getting better @quilteryoyo.
Well done on your race @kgirlhart, great time, a PB and first in AG. Brilliant π
31.2 mile trail run (50.2k) today, average pace of 11:33 min per mile ans 1,865 feet of elevation. Got a 50k PB of 05:58:41 and just (by the skin of my teeth) got sub 6 hours. Very happy with this.
Started off well but got to mile 9 and had a little niggle in my left hip, but after a while this subsided, thankfully.
The one thing I learnt from today is that I need to be a lot fitter than I am when running these distances. But, it's difficult with only being able to run a couple of times a week. I need to work on my glutes and also my quads as they were hurting on the downhill sections.
November cumulative:
36.3 miles & 2,446 feet of Elevation7 -

@kgirlhart Congrats on the PR and the AG win! That's amazing!
@sweetdaisy13 Congrats on your 50k PR! I'm impressed that you can do such long distances running a few days a week.
@skippygirlsmom I remember you mentioning your friends event last year. That's so great for him that it is doing well!
Lots of good running the last few days from everyone here. Seems like a lot of people are.getting some nicer weather. @rheddmobile your comment about the mosquitoes being dead really hit home. It's the best part of it cooling off. Being able to go outside without being swarmed.3 -

Race report:
I ran the wine and dine half marathon at Disney world today. This was the race I did as my very first HM 2 years ago.
We had lovely weather, with a start around 50 F and very little temperature change over the course of the race. The only downside to these races is how long you have to wait around for the start. Having made the mistake of being underdressed in the past, I wore throwaway sweatpants and sweatshirt on top of my shorts and tank top and was actually really comfortable. The weekend started out really rainy and windy and runners for the 5K and 10K had pretty miserable conditions, so I was very grateful for the wonderful weather today.
I had no intentions of running for a PR today. The style of these races is very fun, but they attracts a lot of people who don't usually run, or at least run this distance. Also, these races tend to attract a lot of first time runners (like me 2 yrs ago). Knowing that, I just sort of fell in with the crowd for the first couple of miles knowing that there would be a lot of people stopping to take walk breaks and it would eventually open up and get moving. I also made an unfortunate choice in stopping for a bathroom break. The line looked short, but everyone was taking forever and I lost several minutes just standing around.
Looking at my splits, the first 5 miles are all over the place. From that point on, I am actually really happy with my pacing, a few seconds a mile slower than my PR pace. I walked the aid stations, which happened slightly less than every mile and a half, and used them to get some water. Even better, those paces did not feel hard. I had a little stiffness in my right calf that worked its way out as I went on, my knees continued to feel good for the entire race, and I never felt completely gassed. I definitely could have run at least a couple more miles and been totally fine.
So, while not a HM PR, it is a rundisney PR! Still faster than my first half-marathon here by 9 minutes, even with all the stops and walking the aid stations. That first HM was hard. I put a lot of effort in and really pushed to get to finish. Today, it was just fun! It makes me so happy to see my progression as a runner over the last couple of years.13 -
Hey all.
Really late to the month lol.
Have changed my goals again. Haha. I'm working on my 10k time now because I'm a bit over HM training.6 -
@martaindale I love that last photo!!!! Congratulations!0

I skimmed through the posts. I've been MIA again.
I don't remember when I last posted. Coach started me with strides this week. It was fun to get some speed work in. I got my booster Thursday so I was a little worried about Friday since I had a reaction to my second shot. Other than some fatigue Thursday night and overall muscle soreness, I felt fine! My long run is now at 5 miles (LOL) and today I walked the last mile when I ran into DH and Shadow at the park.
My swag for the virtual Boston cam yesterday and so did my new phone so it was a fun day of checking out swag and setting up phone.
Oh, and next weekend coach has me doing a 2 miles time trial in the middle of my 6 mile long run. π¬

Congratulations on your Disney PB @martaindale ! You have made a lot of progress over two years. You should be very happy with that. Glad this was a fun race for you. Love the pictures. You sure don't look like you just ran a HM.
Glad to see you back @RunsOnEspresso ! Sounds like you are doing great with the running.
It was a gorgeous day here today, so was actually looking forward to a short run. But, I laid down for a nap and got up too late, so wound up with a mile walk again. I'm hoping to get some running in this upcoming week. You all are inspiring me to just get out there and do it!

Well done @kgirlhart! Congratulations!!
Great work @sweetdaisy13! Running for almost six hours and all that elevation gain is amazing!
Congrats on your half marathon @martaindale! Iβve never run a Disney race but Iβve heard you have to get up so early and hang out in the corrals forever. Smart to wear the throw-aways!
