Sunny and low 30s F this morning, with a light south wind and fewer icy patches to dodge. Was feeling all of my nearly 70 years today -- think it's just about time for new shoes.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

Hope everyone is safe after the horrible storms this weekend in the Midwest. Our local big marathon was cancelled (Rocket City), because of start time they cancelled the full and everyone was pushed to the half. Skip decided to run the half and when we got there they cancelled that too because of debris on the course and power out. They decided it was unsafe and also they could let the police be where they were needed and not sitting at intersections of the course. Good call. They did open the arena it was ending it to give out the medals and take pictures at what would have been the finish line. Oh I totally forgot Skip and I were on the news, they were filming us picking up her medal.
@katharmonic and @shanaber @quilteryoyo kids, good thing she makes me laugh. That is what is so funny is she had a full size bed in her room, then wanted the trundle bed for more floor space, now wants the full size again. Geesh LOL
@kgirlhart woohoo for beating Peggy. I have a woman in my AG and I laugh at every race when I see here, she beats me every time. LOL

@Stoshew71 Tagging Stan so he can find us.
Those who have been around a while know that Stan started this group. We have been texting over the weekend so I told him to come back and join the group so I wanted to tag him.10 -

Not too pleased with two 1 mile runs this week. Fell short of my weekly goal, but had fun at a holiday party with my husband and the people he works with. We stayed at a nice hotel and I didn't get out for a run in the morning since I didn't know the area. Oh well. Worth it. Will make up some miles this week.
Hope everyone is doing well!

@Tramboman maybe your body is telling you streaking is no longer your best option and it needs a rest day?
@skippygirlsmom that is hysterical about the whole bed thing... It would make a really funny time lapse movie I think. But totally the right call to have that marathon cancelled. wow...
Today's run was a SPEEDY 4. I wish my polar chest strap had not fallen down when I started because I got a really bogus HR. It gave me a 38 at one point and a 191 at another. I guess with the colder weather I have tightened the thing up. I also forgot to wet it or add gel this morning... oops.
64.16 month to date out of 100 or less. 30.13 left to go in Run the year. Still keeping my pace under 10 and it might be getting a little easier? OK now I said that I am damned I know. This is actually distance wise going to be one of my most lightweight months this year but I am ok with it as Run the Year miles are just too much. I don't have any clue how @AlphaHowls can do over 500 half marathon runs in a row .... my legs would be stumps I think.7 -
@katharmonic Seeing the young eagle sounds so exciting. We don't have many in my neck of the woods. Great running and rock climbing. Love the picture with Stella. Looks like a near perfect day.
Thanks @martaindale . Great running.
@polskagirl01 Such a pretty place to run. I love seeing deer.1 -
@kgirlhart Congratulations on your awards!
@Tramboman It's always time for new shoes.
Today was a 3 km training run. Did it in negative splits. It was hot yesterday but I'm glad it had cooled down today. I'm no good running at over 10°C / 50°F.
My back is healing but still not 100%. Thanks for the kind words. Doctor appointment today.6 -

Was super busy last week so missed a few runs. Eh. Life happens.
Last night's run started out pretty good, there was around 200 meters where I felt like I was actually running instead of crawling along. But going in tiny circles around the block turned out to be a giant mental drain and I just kinda gave up after that. I guess I need a bigger loop.
My Garmin tells me I have nearly 800km on these shoes and need new ones. Hmmm.9 -

Ran after work yesterday and I was feeling like I wanted to go outside the neighborhood. I use the strava heat maps a lot to figure out places to try out and there was a part of an adjacent neighborhood that had a good sized loop that was popular on strava and I could start/end at a park with a large pond, so I tried that out. It was a nice change of scenery and I would run over there again. My only complaint is that the sidewalks switched sides of the road fairly often. But, the traffic wasn’t crazy through the neighborhood so it wasn’t like I had to stop a lot. And the sidewalks wind through trees along the side of the roads, not right up next to the road the whole time. I really liked that. The pond has a big loop around it, which I only ran a portion of to get back to my end point, but I would guess it was around a mile, and very peaceful.
Today is rest day, and I feel like I need it. Upping to 5 days a week is hard, especially jumping in at a midpoint on this training plan where the weekly mileage is not exactly low. But, I think after a couple of weeks my body will adjust. Until then, I just need some extra sleep.9 -

Since I worked from home yesterday I was able to run at lunch when it was sunny and 45F instead of in the dark and 27F at 6 am. The only downside is that more people were out – my nearest neighbor (who is about a half mile away) and his son were outside so I stopped and chatted with them, went on down the road and had to pet another neighbor’s dog since he was out sunbathing in the yard, and then another neighbor passing in her car stopped to say hi. Life in the country – lol! I’m meeting some friends for another Christmas light run this evening in a different neighborhood. We ran in this housing development last year and it is a hilly one. I may need to stop and take lots of pictures of the lights tonight….
Sounds like a nice new route @martaindale. I also like using MapMyRun to find new routes, especially when I’m out of town and don’t know the area – you should give it a try @run_sara_run next time you are out of town
I’m so sorry your HM and Skip’s marathon were cancelled. I really, really hate there were tornadoes and deaths and destruction and power outages, but I can also empathize with the runners and all their training. The Rocket City Marathon was my 5th marathon. My favorite part was running by the space center. Congrats on making the news!

Sunny, frosty, and low 30s F this morning with no wind. Lack of a breeze is a mixed blessing -- on the one hand, there is nothing to peel the skin off your face. But the flip side is the automobile exhaust hangs around to get sucked into your lungs. New shoes seemed to make a difference, but whether it is physical or psychological I have no way of knowing.
@SummerSkier You're probably right about a rest helping my legs, but when did I ever let reason and common sense interfere with my running wishes?
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

I ran 5 miles this morning. It was a really nice run. It was a little chillier than I thought it would be, but it was nice. The temperature was about 53°F and it wasn't particularly windy but I felt cooler than I expected to feel starting out. Then about halfway through though the wind suddenly felt warmer. And all in all it was a good temperature for shorts and a t-shirt. I also saw 3 shooting stars this morning which was kind of cool.

Had an average morning run, nothing exciting other than a flock of pheasants. Got another text message from the national alert system, about air quality, but I think the whole region must get them. I could see the air but it didn't seem too bad. We seem to be in a little pocket that doesn't get it quite as bad.
None of this is about running. But I was encouraged yesterday when the police stopped by - they had got a complaint and were checking furnaces in our area for people burning things that aren't allowed. Once they walked into our furnace room, they immediately saw our newer eco-pea coal furnace and realized we aren't who they were looking for, and everyone relaxed. I'm glad they're checking, although two guys against that big stinky cloud seems like an endless battle.
Daughter's class quarantine is over and she returned to school today. Two hours later, I had to go get my son because HIS class has quarantine now. Again. It must be a teacher who sees many classes, because it seemed like half the school was getting picked up. Next week and also after the holiday break, all schools have to do online learning anyway, which makes sense for allowing for family holiday gatherings. Churches etc are now back down to 30% capacity, but fortunately we meet in a large building with open common areas we can use, so we should be ok.
We've got a busy week/weekend preparing for a Christmas market fundraiser the church is doing for a nonprofit organization we partner with, and Saturday I'm trying to figure out how to be in 3 places at once... probably not going to work but we'll see
I'm so thankful to be feeling healthy! Not to be taken for granted, for sure.7 -
@martaindale Yeah for a new place to run. It sounds nice. Great job on keeping up with your training plan.
@skippygirlsmom I missed that your HM was canceled until I read @Teresa502 's post. Sorry to hear that, but certainly understandable given the circumstances.
@Tramboman I love your sleasy runs. LOL
Nice running everyone. I liked and hugged as appropriate.
I didn't work today, but spent most of the day at mom. She was having 3 replacement windows installed, so helped her move stuff out of the way and stayed with her while the workers were there. They worked from about 1 - 6 and didn't quite get done. They will finish tomorrow. I'm working, but my neighbor agreed to go down to be with her while they are there. She's not afraid of them, but the main thing is being sure she hears what they say and answer appropriately.
For some reason, I was really, really tired when I got home, so just did a mile walk on the treadmill. I didn't even do my back exercises. No sure why sitting around and working on a jigsaw puzzle all afternoon would tire me out, but it did.3 -
5 miles this evening. Was hot and windy. 'Nuff said.
December total: 28 miles.3
