December 2021 - Accountability Month

@dawnbgethealthy I think most of us would admit it bothers us. I know it does me. I've been very tempted to only weigh once or twice a week. Yesterday I was so frustrated and today was a large drop. Emotions go up and down with the numbers unfortunately6
-
I think if it is causing anxiety one should probably stick to 1-2x per week. The first time I weighed daily the variations bothered me a lot so I stopped but then I started again for different reasons. Now it doesn't bother me nearly as much but for this month I've gone back to 2x per week so I don't obsess about it.
Ultimately, whatever works best for your personality is probably the ideal choice.4 -

@dawnbgethealthy - Wonderful that you acquired a new scale quickly! Take the new number and move forward!
And the advice provided with it really hits home. Especially after I indulged yesterday and my number jumped. I know that it is mainly not fat but volume ... mental tricks when weighing daily and keeping things in perspective.
I've thought about dropping back to a weekly WI again instead of daily but I think the daily keeps me on task ... like I know now I need to drink lots of water to flush the salt out of my system and get rid of the bloat.
I do look at the Saturday and Monday mornings as a weekly check. BUT those are usually some of my worse numbers in the past. Years ago I weighed on Wednesday which is usually my lowest (well NOT today LOL). Or I would weigh on Friday so I could blow the weekend and recover before the next Friday.
Weighing daily has gotten me out of that mode of trying to lose for a certain day of the week and then blowing / celebrating after the WI. That was a bad strategy. Weighing daily works and I lose or better yet I maintain what I've lost this year when I've not focused as much and don't bounce back up 40 lbs.
YoYo of 2-5 lbs is so much better than yo-yoing 20-40 lbs in a year!5 -

My name is Donna. I am 5’ 5” tall, 61 years old and from the Midwest USA. In 2016 I weighed 253 lbs. I am on a journey of health and to get back to the real me.
Every healthy habit brings me closer to scratching each of these off to NEVER see them again!

Starting Weight (from Nov 30th): 189.2
Goal: 184.2 (Five lb Loss)

12/07.…..190.4…..(Trend Weight 189.5)
12/08.…..190.4…..(Trend Weight 189.6)….. I’m a hot mess. Now I’ve ran my glucose up and I am feeling like sheer crap on top of it all. I’m making changes today to get to a better place. More paperwork and business for my brother is due today. I don’t even feel like I can raise a pencil to paper! It’s the food choices.
12/09.…..190.4…..(Trend Weight 189.7)….. Same weight for 3 days in a row but my trend weight is creeping up 0.1 each and every day. I still haven’t made the changes I need to. I am not eating my meals proper, then I’m snacking too much at night turning snacks into meals. Cravings are all over the place. Back and forth from salt to sweet. Glucose numbers still up, even with new meds. I am not even giving them a chance to work. Self-sabotage is putting it mildly. I promise myself everyday that it will change today, and then I begin the tasks for my brother’s death and I either lean on food for comfort, or I get too busy to plan for success. I suppose the first part of success and change is recognition, so here I am standing at the confessional podium. Better planning is next and success (while currently elusive) is mine to take.
12/10.…..189.8…..(Trend Weight 189.7)….. I went up to the store yesterday and bought some sugar-free Russell Stovers individually wrapped candy. When the sweet cravings hit me in bed, I had 3 pcs. Tonight I will move it to 2 pieces. Cutting out the night time sugar binge seems to have helped the scale. I’m still too much of a mess since the death to really focus as I should, but any change will help at this point. Today I will choose a better breakfast also.
12/11.…..190.6…..(Trend Weight 189.8)….. Waited too long for dinner due to unexpected company over. Then I overate. Dinner at 11:30 pm.
12/12.…..192.0…..(Trend Weight 190.0)….. Out to dinner with a friend who helped move out some of my brother’s furniture as we empty the house. Pasta and a shared dessert in the same meal made for a horrible scale reading today.
12/13.…..192.2…..(Trend Weight 190.2)….. Small fluctuation with no TMI. Travel today for building supplies and product returns won’t help. I’ll not be home until later tonight after dark.
12/14.…..191.6…..(Trend Weight 190.4)….. The Covid booster hit me hard yesterday while I was out of town. Got home and stayed in bed for 12 full hours. I was lethargic and dizzy. Today it is all gone and was well-worth the tiredness. Nothing wrong with a little extra sleep anyway. Today is hair appointment, then all things Christmas related.
12/15……190.4…..(Trend Weight 190.4)….. Snacks not so good but meals were on point. Not enough movement or water but I am Happy to see the scale down by 1.2 lbs. I have a lot of catching up to do.

@dawnbgethealthy Thanks for sharing. Of course we all know this but sometimes it does get buried at the bottom of the paperwork pile in our minds. It's always nice to have reminders of many things. That's why I love reading the posts. Each person is focused on different things at different times so the reminders are constantly rotating. This was an exceptionally good one.4 -
Good morning, all!!! I know that I am a little late but, I would like to rejoin the monthly weight loss challenges. I have not joined a new challenge since April and I have done fine maintaining my weight, until Thanksgiving. I have gained 10 pounds in a short period of time, which is not normal for me, and it appears that I need group accountability to help me stay in check and get rid of it (and some) !!

Nikki, 52 years old, 5'6"
WL history: ups and downs for years
Exercise: treadmill walk 5x/week (actual exercise not allowed yet, hope to be released from restrictions at the end of December)
Goal: truly give up gluten and avoid it (not allergic, just pick up many pounds of fluid for days)
Goal: put myself on the things-to-do list, and the take-care-of list
Goal: lose it and maintain it
Ultimate Goal weight: 145
6/7/2022 goal (next oncologist appointment): 177 (-20lbs from 12/7/21 appt)
December goal: 195
12/1 - 196.0 was a sticker shock this morning. A lot of inflammation still from surgery last month so my 12/31 goal is slightly possible but not very confident. I'm not shifting it though. Onward and downward!
12/2 - 195.4 first day back to work (remote) was too long and I'm starting the day exhausted. Not sure why I worked 12 hours but so much to do and I'm running out of year. Didn't walk yesterday so my plan is a lunch treadmill walk today.
12/3 - weighed but forgot to post
12/4 - weighed but forgot to post, I did walk on the treadmill for 40m
12/5 - 195.6 This week was rough and a definite reminder that even though I'm not in pain and back to work, that I'm far from healed. Simply exhausted by the end of the day. Today I'm meal prepping breakfast and lunch (egg cups and lasagna soup), dinners for the week will be hunk o'meat + veg. If I was smart I'd go walk now as it's 12:40p and I'm waiting on the soup to simmer, and then work for the afternoon.
Week 1 loss - 0.4 from 12/1
12/6 - ?
12/7 - 197.6 oncologist appointment
12/8 - 197.4 yesterday's oncologist appointment went well but was told that I need to take control and drop some pounds. My goal is 177 by 6/7/22, my next appointment. That's 20 pounds, 24 weeks. I have got to get my motivation and big girl panties firmly in place. I'm still limited to walking after my surgery but I haven't been doing very much of that. So a daily walk and better food choices is my future; not sure when I'll be released for more activity but maybe January.
12/9 - 195.8 so hard to figure out my weight, I really need to find a trend app so I can ignore the ups and downs and just watch the trend. OK, looking now for one.
12/10 - 196.0 (196.2 trend) - couldn't find Happy Scale so downloaded Libra Weight Tracker, but Libra counts in kgs and libres, and there isn't an option to switch it to pounds. So I know if I convert my 196 kilograms I'll be in completely shock and melt-down! LOL. Got my hair cut this morning, will have a lunch walk, and dinner out with my hubby (plan will be to order meat + veg).
12/11 - 195.6 (196.18 trend)
12/12 - 195.2 (196.07 trend) was hoping for lower this morning but it's still down so I'll take it. Dinner is beef roast and broccoli, and a glass of wine.
Week 2 loss - 0.4 from 12/5
12/13 - 195.8 (196.2 trend) I added some gluten-free pasta to dinner last night, and I spiked slightly today. I think there's a trend with gf items. Dinner is baked chicken leg quarters with cauliflower, the family can finish the pasta.
12/14 - 196.0 (196.18 trend) Off to the dentist bright and early this morning but had a rather disappointing weigh-in before I left. Dinner is meatloaf & broccoli, after a treadmill walk. Had a glass of wine too.
12/15 - 195.6 (196.12 trend) Treadmill walk today. Dinner is...well...not really sure. Probably a hunk o'meat + veg. That's a pretty common menu around here. Ordered 3 boxes of 40 lb chicken thighs from a friend with meat connections, it's being delivered today so I'll need to repack it and throw it in the deep freeze. We are definitely not vegetarians/vegan around here in rural Indiana.

I must agree with @Lilylady3k that knowing that I will be weighing each morning stops me from having 6 more bites of stuff that I don't need the night before. Yup, whatever works to keep us on track and each to their own routine.
I also have certain days of the week where I weigh more, Saturdays for me for some reason.
Certain things (for me, Ribs) always net me a 3 pound gain in one day. I expect that and don't lament over it, because I now know what the result will be from indulging - of course I keep it to once per month or less.
Sometimes I take the fluctuations in stride, other times the fluctuations drive me nuts. Working on this : - )

Hi
I am Dawn
I started on MFP October 28.18 at 191 pounds.
I am 61 and 5'2"
UGW 115-ish
12/01 - 136.7 - Slightly lower than November's end weight although I showed a small gain in November. Holiday season is upon us this month. My plan is to reduce as much as possible before the feasting begins.
12/02 - 137.6 - My usual jumping around in weight. Trying to get used to it after 3 years on MFP seeing this.
12/03 - 137.0 - I have always gone up and down, I am feeling like this is my current set point. Of course I liked it better when it was 130.6-133.6. I am not doing anything differently than when I was at that point. The 120s are looking illusive right now, but I realize that I felt the same thing when I just couldn't seem to get out of the 180s (or 170s, 160s, 150s, etc.
12/04 - 138.1 - Restaurant food, a few cocktails and salty snacks. Expected a jump and got one.
12/05 - 137.1 - Maybe the 136s tomorrow, going to try although dinner will be very late because of work.
12/06 - 137.3 - A smaller fluctuation than I am used to lol.
12/07 - 136.9 - Hope to be lower tomorrow than my start weight for the month
12/08 - 136.0 - That is better. I was 135.8 last Christmas, so definitely am hoping to be at least a few pounds less than that going into this one. Honestly, in a year, I had hoped to be well into the 120s by now.
12/09 - 136.4 - No comment lol
12/10 - 136.6 - Decided to change my scale battery after this, and then it wouldn't start again. Guess that buying a new scale will be on my agenda for after work today.
12/11 - 135.8 - New scale this morning, WW scale in the garbage. Haha I like this one better, down almost a pound : - )
12/12 - 135.4 - Ice skating at an arena in another town this aft, hoping to see another drop tomorrow morning.
12/13 - 136.6 - Trying to take it in stride this morning, I weighed very early.
12/14 - 134.8 - That's more like it!
12/15 - 134.4 - Did HIIT with weights 2 days in a row on the weekend on top of my usual workouts, plus skating. I have a slow metabolism in general, but I feel like that extra work is just appearing on the scale 3 days later.

12/01 - 138.4 (138.6 trend) - Hello December. Hoping for a 3.6 pound loss this month
12/02 - 139.4 (138.8 trend) - Up. Did not keep track of food after breakfast. Did well till dinner. New recipe and ate seconds, then dessert. Will try very hard to do better today.
12/03 - 139.4 (138.8 trend)
12/04 - 141.6 (139.2 trend) - two bad nights of eating with no care has caught up. I NEED to stop
12/05 - 140.8 (139.4 trend)
12/06 - 141.4 (139.7 trend) - too much sodium yesterday. Hoping to flush it out today.
12/07 - 140.8 (139.8 trend) - hate seeing that trend number rise. The next few weeks worry me.
Week 1: +2.4
12/08 - 140.6 (139.9 trend)
12/09 - 140.6 (140.0 trend) - a little disappointed. Hoping to see a drop this morning. Maybe tomorrow. Just have to be good today
12/10 - 140.2 (140.1 trend) - every little bit counts. Now to get through the weekend without too much damage

12/16 - DNW - last night was bad. Stress with teenager, holidays and medical test yesterday. Going to try and do better the rest of the week. I know what I need to do, just having a difficult time carrying through

I'm sorry last night was so hard. Sometimes we need to take a step back and just let it be. Maybe consider pampering yourself to destress - a long bath, mani/pedi, ... Hang in there!5 -
Nikki, 52 years old, 5'6"
WL history: ups and downs for years
Exercise: treadmill walk 5x/week (actual exercise not allowed yet, hope to be released from restrictions at the end of December)
12/16 - 197.0 ?? (trend 195.88) Consistently walking, good food, no idea why the jump, but the trend is down which I also thought was odd. No clue. Today is my 4-week surgical check-up. Was warned at the 2 week appointment that my weight and activity restrictions won't be lifted at this visit so am trying to keep that in mind so I'm not disappointed. I really want to do more than walk though. Dinner is something using chicken thighs + broccoli.

Thank you. I did just that after eating too much junk. I took a long soak in the tub and an early night to bed. Let the teenager fend for himself. Feeling a bit better today. Stress isn't going to go away, I am as prepared as I'm going to be for the holidays, so I need to refocus and not let it get the best of me.5 -

Hi
12/16 - 133.4 - Wow, didn't expect a drop today, doing the same things as when I had the spike up. Nevertheless, happy to see this
