Yup - if it doesn't taste good, what a waste of calories, especially in a restaurant!
There is an old jingle from years ago, when tub margarine started to really take over: "Butter makes it taste much better naturally - only Butter, tastes like butter!"
Ain't it the truth though and don't restaurants know it!
I have been eating away from home a lot recently, both at restaurants or at someone else's home where we order in or they cook.
I also stay at my daughter's regularly since I retired but I brought a bunch of my food to stock there so it's only dinner to worry about.
Due to Covid + she lives alone, we (my son and his family share my house, there are 2 kitchens) extended our household bubble to include her. She actually contracted Covid on our return from vacation, but not me, so I was there more days for a couple of weeks to look out for her. She has recovered except still battling fatigue but even that is slowly improving. Yay!
Then, can you believe it last week my daughter in law came down with Covid, everyone else tested negative but kids had to stay home from school since not vaccinated yet (they just opened up for ages 5-11 in our area), so this week when my son was back to work I have had them upstairs from 12-5pm each day (to give their Mum rest time & easier for them to isolate from her). They have been 'helping' Granny finish up decorating, baking, household chores, doing crafts, playing games, working on puzzles - phew! I am using up all my ideas I intended to use next week 🤣 but I love them to pieces and glad to be of service. ❤
Well, my ramble has petered out so Goodnight all 😴.4 -
Guys. I totally forgot yesterday was Friday. I don't think that's ever happened in my life. I had so much going on this week (I am super close to one of the places hit in the tornado so it's been extra busy trying to get donations together- and the fact we didn't sleep that night because we were constantly under tornado warning!) and then I got picked for jury duty two days. And that completely threw me off. I skipped a meal, ate the rest out of my car, didn't see my kids really for 2 days. I even missed a weekly phone counseling session yesterday because I took my one kid shopping for the other kid instead. I just hope my kids and Santa know that I am trying so hard to keep everything square at this point. So here is my check in that should have been posted yesterday:

It has not been a very good week for me. I was exposed to Covid last Friday by a co-worker. So I stayed home Saturday through Wednesday just laying in my room waiting to see if I was going to get sick or not (which is a horrible feeling). Had to isolate from my kids. The most frustrating part was the conflicting information I was getting from the same doctor’s office. One said I should have just gone to work as usual and they wouldn’t give me a doctor’s excuse as I “chose” to stay home. Then the other said I should have stayed out until this coming Monday when I went back to work on Thursday after 2 negative results.
My co-worker is extremely sick and was fully vaccinated. Now my nephew and sister have Covid too. They live next door and my sister works in the office next to mine. It is going around the building at work.
Sorry for the long post. I hope everyone stays healthy and safe. Merry Christmas!🎄5 -

On my way to Seattle! Spent the week working long hours to try and make sure I get to actually enjoy the break without getting called to finish something. My scale dropped 2 pounds from yesterday. I will take it, and hope I can maintain over the next week, however I realize that my weigh in next week will probably up (going to try and be smart-er about my choices, but I will not be restricting & will be drinking alot 😉 )

UGW: 144 by end of 2022
HELL YEAH, finally in Onederland! We'll see what happens the rest of the year. I don't know if I'll see that 196, but really I'll just be happy to stay under 200 over Christmas and New Year's. Now that I'm in Onederland I want to start weighing more often, not sure if daily or twice a week or what, but just to get a clearer idea of how much I fluctuate. Especially now that Aunt Flo is back from her extended vacation (that b***h). What I need is to figure out a place to put my scale where it can just be out on the floor all the time.
We've been invited to a small get-together/jam sesh with my husband's bandmates and their wives, now that Hubs is cleared to lift his bass again, so I'm excited for that. I wish I had some idea of what the menu would be ahead of time, so I could plan my snacks better, but I've got plenty of cals left. Party is in a few hours and I can sip on water or tea until then. I also need to go rack up some steps; I've got some enchiladas and meatloaf in the oven right now, and a load of laundry in the wash. Maybe once I'm done with those I'll go for a stroll around the block. I have about 4000 now and my goal for the day is 15k; one lap around the loop will get me another 4500 or so, and then if need be I can do two more laps tonight after the getty.6 -

Hey @goal06082021 - you did it - you got below 200!! So what are you still doing here? 😉
Kidding - don't you dare leave us! 🥰 You are fuel in my tank today, the kind of fuel I need.
Hope you had a lovely time out tonight, such a treat!
This blasted Omicron variant is really starting to be felt. One of my 2 brothers backed out of Xmas dinner today, but the other one confirmed he is coming with his wife. I sure hope so. Last year we were on strict lock down. This year we are allowed to get together in small numbers if all vaccinated, but my one brother (with an older wife who has asthma) just doesn't feel comfortable taking basically any risk. Sad about that - but no way to make it zero risk.3 -
@Ladybug8882021 oh, don't worry, I'm not going anywhere LMAO, I love this group!
We had a great time at the party - it ended up being basically a private concert by hubs' band, which was awesome. We did get home too late to do any more stepping, so I only made it about halfway to my goal, but whatever. I did also go over my calories - if the entries I picked and portion sizes I guesstimated are accurate, by about a thousand, but tbh I have no idea. Again whatever, it's one day, that's not enough to undo me (and indeed I was still under 200 this morning when I stepped on the scale, if only just - I think I'm going to try daily weigh-ins and see how that goes). Home-cooked food is really a crapshoot and I didn't want to grill the host's wife about her recipes, LMAO. She did make some really good Ecuadorian shrimp ceviche though, I might see if I can wheedle that out of her at least.5 -

Almost into my revised goal for the month! Looking forward to taking some time off work and device-free. Won't be around a ton over the next 2 weeks, but wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!3 -
@justanotherloser007 – I have a Hidrate Spark bottle (I have an original 2 and the Steel/Pro). It is very pricey on their regular site. There’s a few available on amazon to bring costs down a bit. It will glow when you haven’t paced properly to meet your goal for the day. The Hidrate app is available so you can try that without having a bottle to get the reminders. There’s pros/cons with each bottle so I don’t have a preference between the 2 kinds I have. With the app you can have it determine your water goal or you can customize it. I think it sets mine which is rather low but I’m barely hitting it now without counting all liquids.
Disney was good. Didn’t go overboard with the foods. Most of everything we had was great. The few that weren’t we didn’t finish. Our non-park days ended up still being pretty active. I think the lowest was 9.5K steps. With our cruise buddies, priorities were a bit challenged but able to work through to realize splitting up was best.
Scale is of course up but coming down with more water.4 -

Non-scale goals:
1. Consistently cook on Thursdays and Sundays so I can bring leftovers to work.
2. Walk the pup 30 minutes every day, weather permitting.
3. Transition to the next step down for inclined pushups
4. Get to 40 sit ups in a row
5. While visiting parents, walk with Dad every morning.
Posting a day early because tomorrow is a travel day. I am so close to being in my goal range! 0.3 pounds! I think, realistically, I could lose another 1.3 pounds and end the year at a solid 207.5. That said, if I reach the top of my goal range for 2021, I will have a BMI of 29.9, officially taking me out of the obese category and into overweight.
At this rate, I am hoping to solidly be in one-derland by Valentines day. Think 198 as opposed to 199.9. So, like 1.5 pounds a week?4 -

Love to see so many of us going strong well into the holidays! I decided to start weighing daily, just to get a clearer idea of how I fluctuate (and to keep seeing that 1 on the scale, I was not expecting it to be that motivating but here we are). I saw 196 today (196.8, but who's counting (it's me, I'm counting)), for reals this time!! I expect I'll see that number bounce back up a bit over the next few days - yesterday and today have been a little more indulgent than they should have been, and both Christmas and New Year's are on the horizon yet - but I'm confident about my path forward and I am SO excited for what 2022 has in store for me.
Among the things I'm excited about for 2022: I'm approaching exercise a little differently. I'm going to break the year into quarters rather than going month-by-month. For the first quarter, I'm going to give Couch to 5k another try; if, like my previous attempts, I get to Week 4 and decide/remember that actually I hate running, whatever, I'll stick to walking, that's perfectly cromulent exercise. I have tried, successfully, to jog a little bit in these sports bras I picked up at Target, though, so maybe it'll go better for me this time. I did complete it once, and even did an actual 5k (one of the gimmicky color runs where they throw dyed cornstarch at you). For non-C25k days, I'm going to build a strength workout generator. I'll roll dice to pick five movements to do: one hip-hinge; one knee-hinge; one upper-body push; one upper-body pull; and one abdominal. That should yield a balanced and interesting full-body workout. I focused a lot on building lower-body strength this past year (and reaped hella benefits from it), so I want to shift focus to abs and upper body, without losing what I've built on the bottom or getting bored doing the same exact thing every time, which I noticed as I got toward the end of both Strong Curves and the Watermelon Crush program. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to generate new workouts every time, for each week, or for the month.7 -

I know what I've seen from daily weighing/recording, that I almost always have a uptick, up to near 2 lbs before I have a drop. I'm thinking as I burn fat, my body must hold onto water, hence the uptick. Not as daunting as before I noticed the partern, when I know I've stayed on track and it means a drop will come soon!

Hmm thought today was the official weigh in day but thankfully it was really yesterday. Reviewing the days on the calendar is just so off. Sodium is coming down from the trip. Last night we went to chinese buffet so I took a hit from that this morning.
Gym Tuesday seemed to reinjure the hamstring pull I ended up having during my trip. With needing to get back to strength training and a Whole Foods mishap Tuesday I ended up going to the gym yesterday and did 2 machines for legs that wouldn't hurt my leg further. Today's gym will just be going slow on the treadmill. Won't be back until Sunday so will have to be good enough for now.4 -

I did see that 196 on the scale earlier this week, but things kind of went off the rails from Wednesday onward - I really underestimated how much I relied on my daily routine. Lesson learned I suppose, I'll prep some breakfasts and lunches for next week (I'm off work until 1/4). I also haven't done much exercise this week; the Planet Fitness app finally deleted the series of videos from last year that I was in the middle of as of Monday morning, so I've just been going for walks and aiming for 10k steps per day (which I've been hitting up until yesterday - I basically spent Christmas Eve on the couch, LMAO, but I guess I needed a rest day).
We managed to score an old Mr. Coffee 12-cup drip coffeemaker from the thrift store - it needed a new thermostat, but once Hubs installed that it worked like new. We have an ungodly number of coffeemakers already, but now we have a way to make more than one cup at a time! It's even programmable - we decided the inaugural brew would be coffee for Christmas morning. (Our current collection includes, in addition to the Mr. Coffee: a first-gen Keurig; a 24-oz French press; a stovetop espresso maker/moka pot; an Aeropress; and a coffee siphon, which is the coolest-looking but biggest pain in the *kitten* to use, LMAO. We still need a pour-over cone and a Chemex to complete the set.)2 -
@goal06082021 wow with the coffee pots!! I didn't realize that was a hobby for you. Nice!! Merry Christmas all!! Congratulations for all those who are hanging in there with the holidays. We can do this! Whether it is maintenance, or simply watching what you eat - I hope you safe food journeys to go with all your celebrations!!
