@polskagirl01 Thanks for the tour and the hot chocolate! It would be much needed after running in the freezing temps and ice there.

Sunny and calm this morning. My phone weather app said it was -10 F; my home weather station said it was 2 F, so it was cold. Saw not one other living thing, but heard two robins, two cardinals, and a red tailed hawk.
Good to see you back, @Avidkeo !!!5 -
@Teresa502 Great running. Good job on getting it done when it was tough to be out there. Did you get much snow? We didn't even have a dusting, but it is really cold today. At least the sun is shinning. I love that your cat fell asleep watching a bird video. Too cute. I had another "nothing day" yesterday. I did try in vain to fix mom's oven again. That took a lot of time, so I think I was just done when I finally decided to give up. I did get a treadmill walk in.
Nice running @polskagirl01 and thanks for the tour and the hot chocolate!
@Avidkeo So glad to see you back and that you have found your joy in running again!
@shanaber I hope the Santa Ana winds die down soon. I hate to try to run in the wind, mostly because I'm afraid it will blow tree limbs down on my head.
@Avidkeo I'm so glad you are back with us. Yes, I probably have had it all my life. I'm just wondering why no one ever saw it before. Had I known sooner, maybe I could have kept it from progressing as far as it has.

6 speedy but cold miles today. Funny how sometimes 50s can feel colder than 30's. It was 30's today but actually quite nice with very little wind or humidity and bright sunshine. We are due for an ice storm late next week so ramping up a little. 118 miles out of 120 planned for the month so on schedule.
@quilteryoyo a friend of mine had her teenager recently diagnosed with scoliosis pretty severe as well. I don't know if it sneaks up on you and the curvature worsens over time or what. I am also pretty amazed your previous chiro did not notice it. You may have only had it a little bit all your life and it decided to get worse due to perhaps osteopena or bone loss. I know that our bones do shift as we age and sometimes I swear I can feel it. Like my face structure has changed and I know when it was cold and I was running it felt like bone pain. That is now what I feel in my hips in the cold so I wonder what joys age will bring me now. When I was a child in grade school they used to do posture exams to check for our hips, shoulders and spine being correct. They warned us not to sit with our legs crossed. I think perhaps it is something a dr should do as part of an annual wellness exam but I rarely see that. Because of that training at a young age I am always evaluating people I see for levelness. I was lucky in that when I broke my femur spiral fracture the dr got my rod in and set it at exactly the right length. Of course that foot no longer toes out like the other one but how would he know?
It's good to see how active this thread is. One of the few I can follow anymore because just sort of browsing the various groups is no longer fun or easy since the community changes were made.5 -
@ContraryMaryMary - beautiful cake!
@kgirlhart - hope you don’t have Covid. Sorry for the loss of your uncle.
@martaindale - Great job on your run!
@shanaber - I hope Hobbes is feeling better!
Thanks for the hot chocolate @polskagirl01!
Nice to see you @Avidkeo!
I’ve been a little busier with work and spending time with hubby this week now that he’s home, but I have still managed to run every day, even if it was short. My goal is to run 10K tomorrow and then do a short run on Monday to finish my goal of 75 miles.
I also signed up for the 15K I mentioned, so that will be in two weeks. It starts/ends about two miles from my house, so I won’t have to get up crazy early to drive anywhere, which is nice.8 -
Slept in today, ran around back roads for about 7 km, did my weight machine routine and then made chocolate cheesecake bars for church tomorrow. I hope they turned out ok because I didn't measure anything 🤭
Now I'm fighting with my computer.6 -
Catching up after a couple of days. All a bit hectic - my younger daughter has just been diagnosed with Covid. She’s fine, not too bad. Just lots of juggling with getting tests and sorting childcare. Have carried on with little treadmill runs - I want to see out this RED January, no matter what!
Good to see you @Avidkeo, brrr to -10F @Tramboman. Awesome consistency @marisap2010. @polska_girl chocolate cheesecake bars sound delicious!
Happy running everyone.

No run for me today but I did walk 3.12 on the treadmill, then did a weight workout (lower body day), and then another 3.10 on the treadmill.
We had about 3 inches of snow overnight @quilteryoyo. The temps though. It's sunny and 21F now but the real feel is 12F. I don't know how you get out there in the cold @tramboman.
I hope your daughter's symptoms don't get worse @Faebert.
Good to see you @Avidkeo! You know you always have a home here!2 -
11 miles this morning. Had thoughts of a HM today since the weather was so perfect, but by mile 6 I knew I was in trouble when I had to take a walk break. It was downhill from there. Stopped after 11. Was going pretty slow, but stomach just felt queazy after 6. Not sure what was going on today.
Maybe one more run outside on Monday to close the month, then we are supposed to get snow!

Am still here lol. Have gne camping with the family and no cellphone cover. Just ducked into town for supplies.
Here's some pics. And I went for a 3k run this morning as well!4 -

Went to a Greenway close to my house today that stretches for almost 20 miles without crossing any roadways. I found it searching around on Strava heatmaps. I really like the new icons for start points, parking and bathrooms because it makes access points so much easier to find. The Greenway is a wide well maintained asphalt that is shaded by big trees. I did a 4 mile stretch as an out and back for 8 miles total. I saw equestrian Trails paralleling most of the paved trails so I will have to go back out and run some of those trails one day. This was my.longest run since the HM and my legs were a little tired towards the end and I got a weird pain in my left knee for part of mile 3. But it went away after a half mile or so. Icing it now and hopefully it doesn't pop back up.8 -
Thurs run day, Friday lifting, today was a rest day.
Thursday’s run I just didn’t feel excited about anyplace I could think of to run - I am starting to realize I have mental trauma from my heart episode on the Greenline, I am afraid to go back out there. And it’s really the best long straight place to run around here. So, I ended up running at Shelby Farms which is within sight of the Greenline but not the same. Baby steps. I forgot that the weather out there always feels ten degrees colder because of the winds. Did a short loop and grabbed my cool down walk jacket out of the car and ran with it. My poor husband though, he was freezing. It’s hillier than what we usually run and 5k left my legs feeling tired. I am shocked at how short a time it took to lose all my conditioning! Basically one cut back month and it’s like I never ran before.
That being said it was a very nice run, saw more deer than I could count including four that we could practically touch. Bunch of Buffalo. Petted the nose of a friendly spotty horse. Cold enough that we were almost alone except for a couple of high school track teams.
In lifting news I am up to 190 deadlift now! I had a goal a couple of years ago to hit 200 and had to stop because I tore my Achilles’ tendon running, so I’m hoping to make it this time. It’s a double goal since it’s a nice round number and also 1.5x body weight for me.8 -
Morning all. Had a glorious run outdoors today at long last. Sunny and cold and very pretty in the park. Pic in spoiler.
The hills felt easier than they have done - hoping that means my fitness is gradually improving. Garmin showed I stayed in a good heart rate zone for much of it, so all in all I’m happy. Wish I’d seen deers and horses though, @rheddmobile - jealous!

Nice running @marisap2010 . I'm sure you are enjoying dear husband being home. You'll do great on your 15K.
@polskagirl01 I love cheesecake. I'm amazed that you didn't measure anything. You must be a true chef!
@Faebert I hope your daughter has a mild case. You are doing great to keep up the running.
@Teresa502 I'm with you. It was way too cold to get out and do much of anything yesterday. It's supposed to warm up here today. I hope you get some warmer temps too.
@Scott6255 I hope you feel better. You did great to get those 5 miles in after you started feeling bad.
Nice @Avidkeo . Enjoy.
@martaindale That sounds like a great place to run.
@rheddmobile You are doing great!

Light snow last night and still snowing this morning, so had fun on the treadmill. One advantage of the treadmill is I get to listen to music, and today was a great musical morning. Last kilometer was "My Girl," by The Temptations; Lesley Gore's "It's My Party," and "Walkin' in the Rain," by Jay and the Americans. Makes an old man's thought turn to springtime...8 -
@Tramboman You know you COULD listen to music while you run outside? I use one apple ear pod and it streams whatever playlist I want from my watch. Stays in place very easily and not distracting. I have some music with 180 bpm which helps to energize me and get my pace going.
@Avidkeo great happy photos! Agree on cuteness overload.
@Faebert hope your youngest is doing ok. Sounds like you GOT YOUR MOJO BACK!!!!4 -
It is a beautiful, sunny day here, so I ran an easy 10K. It was 28F when I started and almost 48F an hour later. I didn’t expect it to warm up so quickly, so the last bit of my run was a little hot. Less than 2 miles left to hit my 75 miles for January, so I’ll run that tomorrow.
January miles: 73.07
Streak days: 304 -
No run for me today. I tested positive for Covid. 😔 Luckily I hit my goal a couple of days ago. I am hoping it won't be too bad. I started feeling like I was coming down with a cold yesterday and this morning my temperature was 100.3, but now it is 99.3. My throat is a little sore, but not too bad. I was vaccinated so am hoping for a mild case. I hope that I will be able to run again soon, but I am going to try to rest. My Garmin body battery was 17 when I got up this morning so I do think a rest day is called for.10

I only listen to music outside when I do 10+ k, but I haven't done that in a long time. If I want music for shorter distances, I just sing.3 -
@kgirlhart I Hope you feel better soon!0

Hey all - I have read through almost everything but for a minute here and there, so my memory fails me for commenting. But know that I am enjoying photos and cheering you all on. @avidkeo I do remember seeing some beach photos and I am supremely jealous.

I don't think I've updated in several days. It continues to be very cold and I did not run outside at all Monday-Saturday this week. The few miles I have were at the gym on the treadmill. For the third week in a row Saturday temperatures were in the below zero range and I cannot express how over it I am. Although I'm sure many of you relate. I grouchily vetoed running outside yesterday and was not committed to long run today either. I woke up and it was still sub-zero but the sun was out. My intrepid friends were heading out, and particularly the one friend doing her second and final 20-mile training run for her marathon, so I agreed to come out but said I would do anywhere from 45 minutes (one of her loops) to 13.1 miles depending on my mood.
As it turned out, it was not that awful. 7 degrees at the start, 18 degrees at the end but the sun was bright and felt warm and there was blessedly no wind to speak of (off the notoriously windy lake). I also just bought new shoes yesterday and was gambling that they would be ok even though I went a half size down this time (Brooks Ghost 14). The shoes were good, definitely more cushiony than my worn-out 13s and I think the sizing choice was right. (I had been getting blisters that I think were from too much sliding of my foot in the shoe, and another friend said she had to size down in the 14s anyway). So miraculously I felt pretty good for this run, much better than last week. I was going to stop at 10 but when my friend said she only had 4 miles left for her 20 I realized that if I finished with her I would be at almost 13. Which would keep my HM a month streak from last year going. So I stayed and surprised myself by getting it done. I was going to take and "incomplete" for this month and try to remediate later and now I don't need to. For this month.8 -
Hugs @kgirlhart ❤️ Hope you have a mild case.0
-
Wishing you better @kgirlhart. I’m so sorry you are missing the funeral as well. Thinking of you. X0
-
@kgirlhart sorry I somehow missed your post that you had COVID. Hope it's mild and you feel better soon. Take it easy!1
-
Thanks @Tramboman, @marisap2010, @Scott6255, and @faebert. I am disappointed that I have to miss the funeral, but I am glad I saw my mom the day before I was exposed and not the day after.4
-
Love your songs @Tramboman ! That's my style of music too.
You are doing great @marisap2010 !
@kgirlhart I'm so sorry you tested positive. I hope you have a mild case. I know the timing stinks for you. Hugs.
Great job on getting out there and getting your HM distance in for the month @katharmonic ! Glad you had a good run and the shoes worked out for you.
Mom and I had a visit with my niece and her family this afternoon, so I sort of ran out of time. Just another short, mile, walk on the treadmill again. If I walk/1.4 miles tomorrow I'll hit 50 miles total for the month. I guess that's not horrible considering I have only run 6 times this year/month - and one wun. I'm anxious to see what the new ortho says about my back Tues. If he doesn't see any problem with running, I'll try to kick it up a bit in Feb.6 -
@kgirlhart So sorry to hear you tested positive and are missing the funeral. I hope your symptoms stay mild.
@rheddmobile I can understand feeling anxious about returning to the greenway after the ordeal you have had with your heart. Baby steps and I bet you’ll be back out there soon!1 -
Thanks @quilteryoyo and @martaindale.1
