Thanks Barbie. I found myself excited this am to get on MFP and bookmark May. Looks like a great day for walking-may head out to reservoir, I love the view there and have many good memories of fishing with John and the boys.
Need to do meal prep and all of the other weekend stuff. Defrosted some tilapia and a steak yesterday. Will cook them up for evening meals. Will run down to store to pick up salad for the week. It's just easier to do with lunches. I am focusing on increasing protein so I need to be mindful of that. Of course, yogurt-I take probiotics but with all of the antibiotics need to keep gut health in mind.
Hope everyone has a good May Day!

Good morning ladies, and happy May Day!
Yes thanks Auntie BK My knee is doing much better. I'm a little sore in my arms from exercise. I think I hit just the right amount this time. Today I will walk a little, then tomorrow morning the plan is to start the yoga series over on day one.
Lots of errands to do today, and not much energy.

Happy May Day! Thank you, Barbie, for leading us into May once more.
Margaret - The picture with the flowers spilling out of the frame was absolutely gorgeous. They were all beautiful, but that one really caught me.
On flowers and gardens for the year:April showers are bringing May flowers... new growth is showing up everywhere here. The daylilies will be blooming soon, and the perennial morning glory at the front corner of the carport just put its first little tendrils up. The daffodils have come and gone again, as well as the blooms on the tulip tree and the tiny little lilies of the valley. The redbud trees have bloomed already and the dogwoods are right behind them, all scattered through the tree growth on either side of the roads into town. Corey gave me a redbud tree for my birthday last year, and it even put out tiny flowers.
Corey also planted my bleeding hearts in the stump of the old tree out front, and I'm hoping they do well there. It's my only flower purchase this year so far. Now that the danger of frost is past, he also put out new tomato plants, jalapeno peppers and strawberries. The tomatoes he planted earlier were killed in the last frost.
The plants are all in the big tubs he brought home to use for container gardening. Saves him from building raised beds, which he planned to do this year. He gets the tubs free from work, as they just get thrown away - they come with the larger trees they use for landscaping. He plans to plant only cucumbers, potatoes, and tomatillos in last year's ground level garden area--that's a good thing because the cucumbers try to take over everything. Will have to remind him to get a watermelon plant. Love the small, individual watermelon, especially sprinkled with kosher salt.
Regarding goals and words etc., My word for the year ended up being "recover." That's coming along nicely right now healthwise. Slowly, and in tiny increments, but I am feeling better almost every day...
My goals for April were:
✅ Be lighter - I was at 177.3 on April 1, and was at 175.1 this morning.
✅ Be healthier - Yes. Every day gets better. I had more than 9,000 steps on Friday for the first time in a long, long time.
✅ Stick to the budget - We did quite well for April, and we're still tracking to pay the house off by Christmas.
Yay, me!
My goals for May are:
- Be lighter
- Be healthier
- Stick to the budget
The "be lighter" works for me because I don't pin myself to a number. I can get obsessed and do stupid things if I am driving for a specific number.
My goal for right now is to go get one more cup of tea.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa.7 -
Thanks Barbie for the new month.
Kids from Eastern part of state drove over Friday to help me clean the garage and do some yard work. Then yesterday they took me to dinner for an early Mother's Day. It was very nice and they are leaving today to head home. It was a nice visit and we got a lot accomplished. I'll miss them but will be glad for my quiet days.

Happy May Day to everyone! Finals week this coming week with four commencement ceremonies next weekend, and then I transition to the summer schedule -- four day work week with Fridays off. Boy am I ever looking forward to that. The four days will be longer (still have to get in 40 hours), but it will be so lovely to have a three day weekend each week.
Final radiation treatments ended last Wednesday. My throat is very sore because they shot through it from all angles to get to C7, but the radiation nurse said it should last only a week or two. Other than that, I didn't have a lot of fatigue because it was only five sessions. Granted, each session was 40-60 minutes, so still a lot of rads, but very tolerable.
Now we just wait. I keep on my targeted oral therapies, and repeat scans in June (PET) and July (MRI). Hoping for the best.
Walking goes well, although this last week of classes was so full and tiring, I didn't get extra steps in when I got home, so just the steps I get running around campus and the hospital, which on most days is about 5000.
Thank you Barbie for this thread. I am thankful for all of you and the support you give each other for all kinds of wellness.
I read along almost every day, but do not respond when reading on my phone, so know that I am cheering you on and crying with you, as well.

Well today organized about 5 birthdays this month, cards letters etc. Of course there's lots of stickers, washi tape, and letters. Packed my gym bag for tomorrow morning. I know crazy huh?!! Well they have opened up the sauna and the lockers! So packed my swimsuit, matching fluffy towel and flip flops. Should be fun! It will make exercising that much more enjoyable knowing a sauna is my reward.
We bought 2 sturdy mats that Athena can put under her plates. One is a dinosaur one, and the other is a printing alphabet, and the other side is cursive. I know not fun at all, but she has SO many toys, and going to Disneyland with her momma and other grandma. So lets be the learning grandparents..... 😁
Her card is cute though. I had fun decorating it.💖
Here's a Athena fix😁💖Have a great day all!

Karen - I often make a half size cake. The original is huge! Last time I made it I added feta.
Had a lo o o ng chat with my friend L today. She was distraught when she rang me. I think I left her in a better frame of mind. Her grief is so mixed up with her guilt. I'm encouraging her to write about it. She does not value herself enough.
Otherwise, I managed to write today. Amazing. I'm really at the editing stage now, but hesitating to embrace that.
Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday and DH and I are going out for lunch. I'm looking forward to it.
Tonight we talked for ages about grief and regrets, prompted by L's experience. I really appreciated it. The loss of his previous partner is still present with him, but his biggest regret is leaving his two young daughters. They both love him, so he couldn't have got it all wrong.
I am grateful for him opening up.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx7 -
fajitas for dinner yesterday on his newly purchased griddle. Turned out great. Told him I wanted a repeat tonight. We will be taking it when we go camping.
