I ran a 5K this morning and then walked my dogs another half mile. My marathon training plan starts tomorrow. My long run next weekend is 8 miles, which is a little stressful considering my fatigue, but I’m hoping in another week I’ll feel a lot better.

@shanaber Super cool shots! I am also glad you didn’t get more seriously injured with your fall. It’s too soon for another injury!!

My long run next weekend is 8 miles, which is a little stressful considering my fatigue, but I’m hoping in another week I’ll feel a lot better.

I hope so too. But if you don’t, make some adjustments to your plan for a few weeks and don’t push too hard.In the long run, you’ll likely do more harm than good by trying to complete exercise your body isn’t ready for yet. It will get there though. When my parents got covid they had intermittent fatigue for a few months. So fingers crossed for next week feeling good and I hope you just continue to get better.

Hi All - I am way, way behind. Have been running and will post a run update later.
I get a newsletter from the SF Marathon and there was an article that I thought you all would enjoy. Ultra runner Mike Wardian is running across the US. He started on May 1st in San Francisco and expects it to take a bit over 2 months to complete. You can follow his progress on Facebook and Strava. Don't know if his route will come near any of us but you can sign up to run with him if he is close to where you are...
    Article is here

ETA - did you happen to see the Emily Sisson broke the American HM record at the USATF Championships? She finished in 1:07:11!! I can't even imagine being able to run a HM that fast!

that's like a 5 min per mile pace?!!!! OMG!!!! :o:o

@martaindale I will definitely take it easy and cut back, if needed.
    Also, beautiful pictures!

@eleanorhawkins Great job on your race!

    134.62/100 miles completed for May

I got out for 7 miles this morning. It was already pretty warm at 80°F at the start and 85° F at the end. I didn't run as long as I usually do on Sundays since my daughter was still here. I ran out to see Sunny the Donkey and then ran by the cemetery to make sure that my veterans had flags placed on their graves. I got home after 5 miles, but everyone was still asleep so I ran up to the park for another 2 miles and I saw my sister and brother in law walking there.

I'm really glad tomorrow is a holiday. I will probably sleep in a bit and just get a mile or two for the streak. I had a great weekend, but it's always kind of tiring having a "company".

Glad you weren't injured @shanaber. I love the pictures. I have never seen a bald eagle.

@marisap2010 It took me a while to get my stamina back after having covid. Just be kind to yourself and rest if you need to.

    Beautiful trails @Martindale

    @Eleanorhawkins Congratulations on your race!

@martaindale - That looks like a great place for a dip on a hot day! Cool off and run home 😁
@marisap2010 - I hope you get your stamina back quickly, just take it easy and build back into it.

I am feeling fine today. No lasting issue from the fall. I did spend the day on my feet cooking and cleaning for tomorrow but I am hoping to get in a short run of some kind tomorrow. We are puppy sitting one of Hobbes' agility buddies and Jeep is arriving early in the morning. Dh will be smoking ribs starting early so my plan is to leave the pups with him and get out by myself for a run before family arrives.

@marisap2010 Nice job on the 5K. If you can't do 8 miles next weekend, don't sweat it. Do what you and your body can do and build from there. Like @martaindale said, I hope you don't, but you could have intermittent fatigue for a while. If you do, listen to your body. Maybe take more walk breaks or cut it short. Hope none of this is the case and you'll be back to your old self soon.

@martaindale Nice run and pictures. If that last one is part of the trail, those rocks look like they would be hard to run on. You are doing great and love that you found such a pretty new trail to explore.

@eleanorhawkins Great job on getting in 10 min before cutoff in what sounds like a really tough race! You rock!

Sounds like a really nice run @kgirlhart . I agree that having company is hard, even if you are elated to have them there and spend time with them. It just throws your whole schedule off, which I don't do well with. LOL

Sounds like a great plan for your day today @shanaber! Enjoy those ribs.

    Thanks everyone!
@marisap2010 I agree with everyone else, better to be conservative and do what you feel ok with than push yourself and hinder your recovery!

@Scott6255 your reference to the sweeper made me laugh. No idea if this is a thing anywhere else in the world, or even in road races, but in Spanish trail races the sweeper literally carries an old-fashioned broom! My Mum went and stood on a corner to see me pass (first time ever anyone has done that, my husband usually comes down to the finish line but has never waited on a route, and it was awesome to see her!) but when she arrived she wasn't sure whether everyone had already passed and she'd missed me. I wish I'd been there to see her face when he explained that there were still people to come by and that it wasn't over until the guy with a broom came by LOL.

@quilteryoyo The picture with all the rocks is a wet weather creek that the trail crosses. I like hiking those but definitely would hurt myself trying to run it!

@eleanorhawkins I now want a giant firehouse sprinkler on all my runs. That sounds fantastic! Great job on your race. Those conditions sound super tough. You should 100% be proud of how you did!

@Scott6255 Yeah, remember when 2 beers wasn’t going to mean you were struggling the next day? I used to love experimenting with cocktails and have a beautifully stocked liquor cabinet that I rarely touch anymore because I just can’t drink if I’m running the next day. It’s noticeable. So, I basically don’t drink anymore unless I’m on vacation.

@kgirlhart I love the idea of having company and entertaining and people are fun to have around for a couple of days. By day 3, my introverted nature is screaming for some time alone and people out of my space.

Question for everyone: have any of you had the soles on your running shoes replaced rather than replacing the whole shoe?
There's a cobbler's in the city half an hour away that specialises in re-soling running shoes and will put new Vibram soles on my weirdly worn pair for a third of what a new pair of the same shoe would cost me. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to see what happens. Maybe I'll break out the new pair and see how they wear, then if the same thing doesn't happen to them then give it a go. Any thoughts?
Incidentally, I did end up racing in them yesterday, it was ok for the most part but a bit slippery on some of the more complicated descents, which has left me with a sore backside! Never had aching glutes after a race before, I guess I was braking with my *kitten* because I wasn't sure the shoes would keep me upright.

Nope me neither @eleanorhawkins. But I suppose it's possible with the right tools and glue ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    138.13/100 miles completed for May

I ran 3.5 miles this morning. I slept in a little, so it was pretty warm. There was some cloud cover which helped. It was windy too, but it was hard to tell if the 23 mph winds were a help or a hindrance.

Thanks for getting us set up for June @scott6255.
