Here it is. A new day, a new month, another chance to make a new beginning on those plans, habits, and behaviours that will be part of a healthier, happier, and more satisfying life.
Making and sustaining changes with the support and encouragement of others has worked well for me, and I hope it will work for you, as well.
The thread is called "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome. I hope you will come back every day and join the conversation.
Please sign your post with a name or nickname along with a location (specific or general) to help us more easily identify each other.

Did Biggest Loser the Workout and then some pilates and then took my walk around the block. Walked around the house and only 2 of the ceramics were knocked over from the rain last night. I was surprised how many of the neighbors had leaves and mulch strewn about. Work tomorrow then will go to ceramics at night. I’m thinking that I’ll get a bottle of the black paint and use that at home while they are closed during the week.
Heather – what a good sport Johnny is to allow himself to get dressed up;. Max looks so grown up
Baking more of the banana chocolate chip cookies. Colby seems to like them
Anne DE – happy birthday to your father. You’re so good to your parents
Lisa – oh Levi!!! Those eyes. I remember when they put the drywall up in our detached garage. One of the guys was on stilts! I could never do that

Thank you, Barbie! Glad to be here, glad y'all are part of my life.
July Goals:
✅ - Be lighter: I was 176.6 on July 1, and here on July 31, I'm at 167. The last two weeks, the weight has been peeling off for no apparent reason, and the only adjustment was to my thyroid meds. Since I feel really good, I'll just hope it's my body finally righting the ship.
✅ - Be healthier: Oh yes, without doubt. Definite setbacks, but overall, forward progress.
✅ - Stick to the budget: Much of the financial hemorrhage was resolved in June and early July, so definitely in much better shape.
My August Goals remain the same - be lighter, be healthier and stick to the budget.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa

Barbie — Thank you for our new thread. I am happy to see our friends here.
My life has been a stress festival. DH was in the hospital for several months due to a life threatening heart attack. He has been in a skilled nursing facility and was discharged a few days ago. We flew to Illinois and are living at our daughter’s home. We are lucky to be here.
I hope to be here as often as I can.

Thank you Barbie, for starting our August out on a positive foot.💖👍.
Katla, so glad you and husband are together💖🙏👍👍.
Its warm here on Whidbey island! Finished writing a pen pal a letter. She's a favorite and always tells me I get "head of the line" privileges and she writes me right back. It makes me feel so darn special! I have 24 pen pals, and though I love them all, its nice to have an empty "out box".
Just so y'all know when I returned from my travels I had 18 letters waiting! My normal length of letters is 6 pages so that's 108 pages of cursive, gossipy goings on! Lol!
Well just had an egg and toast, not my whole extravaganza. So now I'm hungry for dinner. Tomorrow is bloodwork, plus my 2nd dose of the shingles shot. Lucky me!
Today I balanced the checkbook to the penny, and managed to stow $200 more away. Gives me a good feeling.
Hugs ladies!

Well tomorrow is a new month. Kirby has been having some problems with one of his feet but we still walk yogi his 6 miles daily. He’s taking care of it, don’t worry. I suggested he can ride his bike outside meanwhile I can walk yogi at a faster pace. He can ride 3 days while I walk and I will ride 3 and he can walk yogi. This way it will give his foot a break at the same time. We haven’t ridden outside since we’ve been here because we are walking yogi. He took our bikes to get tuned up and we got our helmets out and recharged our batteries and we are ready to go. We both miss the road and it will b nice to change things up a bit.3

Ginny - I’ve found a lot more scammer phone calls lately. It’s frustrating because they mimic local numbers now and I’m always scared if I don’t answer it’s someone that needs me.
Kelly - what a sweet thing for that little boy to say. It’s a shame he had to though.
Carol - I thought of Kylia when I saw that about Kentucky as well. I was thinking about her the other day.
Carla - I want one of those taps too. Currently I would be happy if I could convince hubby he put the tap in backwards.
Barbara - I’m sure if you Google “Roger’s Outage” you would read about it.
I don’t like exercise either, I try to putter with housework or whatever to help me burn calories. It’s not enough to keep up with my intake lately, but at least I’m not gaining.
Lisa - I actually love how men can do that. In our house, in that situation, DH would be the one in the house and I would be out checking on the ex SIL.
Levi is so handsome. Your room looks wonderful, what a difference some paint makes.
Rita - I’m about to do a test too. Our DOC was positive on Friday and I have a cough this morning. Feel better soon. Colds are a pain.
Flea - what great news! You’ve had a busy summer, I can understand why you aren’t prepared for work. It will all come together.
Carol - I hope your Grandson makes new friends fast. That’s hard.
Annie - your book sounds interesting.
I enjoy mysteries.
Happy Birthday to your Dad
Barbie - I hope your eye issue is fixed quickly.
Pip - that is very cute. I like the new rug, very light and airy looking.
Viv - I have a Tens machine with big pads, it’s a Dr. Ho. If the pads aren’t moistened enough it causes the shocking sensation. It has helped with a lot of my pain though.
Heather - the relationship Johnny has with the grands is a joy to witness. You are so blessed to be close to them.
Maybe Edie will be a fashion designer.
Barbie - thank you for another month. I can’t believe we’re in August.
I have a three day weekend, and decided to redo my china cabinet. It won’t be completely put back together until next week but this is the current state.
I have gotten rid of all of the brass on it, hinges and knobs too. I am thinking of putting “crystal” knobs because I collect crystal and I think that it will fit in nicely.
Tracey in Edmonton12 -
I forgot to tell a cute little Michaela story.
She for some reason loves gardening. It doesn’t come from her Mother or I that’s for sure.
She has 6 little plants she planted from seed this Spring and they have bloomed. They left to go camping for a week today and she had her Mother text me to see if I will go take care of her plants this week.
They live 20 minutes away, but I have to go into the city on Wednesday so I’ll check them then.
If she hadn’t decided this after they were on the road they would have dropped the plants off here. I hope they are good on Wednesday and I’ll bring them home with me.4 -
Katla – I know you’re so happy to have your dh. I didn’t realize that he was out of the nursing home and with you. How great is that?
Work tomorrow...boo no exercise. But at least we have ceramics at night. Why I didn’t think of this before is beyond me. But what I think I’ll do is order a bottle of the black paint and work with that color while at home when they are closed. So that’s something I need to do tomorrow
I can’t believe it’s august already. Thank you barbie. Where did the summer go? It goes by too fast for me. Winter just seems to drag on and on (except when we go to FL – then it goes by too fast)
Tracey – love the china cabinet. Really like the brown against the white. You are as creative as pip. It seems that lately Jess has gotten into gardening. Or at least she’s showing an interest. She wants me to garden. Well, if she wants to see something that is dead I’m the person she can go to….lol
Got my walk in tonight. Jess left to go back to Raleigh. Colby and Shadow are still here. It seems that they'll get their place earlier. We're supposed to go up Sunday. When Jess asked if we were coming up, Vince mentioned that "what she really means is 'will we help move'" But she told him "no", which I'm not complaining about. We're going to go up Sunday. I don't work on Sun, but I know that if I needed to go up earlier, I can just give them extra prep and then go up. But then we'd have to get someone to give Loki his med. Personally, I think he'd be OK with traveling up there, but Vince doesn't think so. It seems that lately Loki has been going into the room where Shadow is and there's no hissing, which is a good sign.
Well, off to beddy bye

That was a quick post, because Waitrose arrived dead on 7 am. All put away now. The poor woman had to negotiate all around the pavement works to get to our front door. We have put the dustbins out halfway down the road!
Thank you Barbie!
Levi is growing so fast, Lisa. Oh my word! I felt so sad when Bea left the baby stage and there is a short time when they get frustrated with their own babyness, especially if they have older siblings, but that time has passed now and she is a joy. The family are taking their first 'road trip' this August, because she is older now. They will be touring Slovenia for two weeks, staying in four different places, mountains, lakes, etc. That would have been torture when they were younger.
I still miss a baby to cuddle, though.

Good Morning from a sunny York
Thanks Barbie for setting up a new month - August already, the months are flying by.
My aim for this month is to be more positive, I feel as if I have let negativity hold me back. I'm always looking for things to go wrong, I never used to be like this.
I also want to get healthier, treat my body like a temple (and not a dustbin!) I'm sick of feeling tired, fat and frumpy!
Katla Good news
Pip Love the new rug
Tracey My mum's TENS doesn't have pads, it looks like a pen, you put the end on where the pain is and press and hold the clicker (like a ball point pen) and leave it for 30 seconds. I'll have to try and take a photo .
More I wanted to say, but if I don't move now my knee will seize up completely.
Take care and love to all

Good Morning!
Thank you Barbie for creating this group and allowing me to join! I am from Maryland, 53, and have struggled with weight all of adult life. I am currently learning to track Macros and eat whole foods (trying). Moving is the biggest challenge for me, but I am trying! I am a mom of 3 and a Grandmother of one, work full-time, Cheer Coach (retiring at the end of this month), small business owner.
My 3 goals for August;
🔸Drink more water
🔸 Move more
🔸 Plan to meal prep
Happy Monday,
Stacey

Hi all!
Thank you so much for the support. {{{Hug}}}
Hugs to those who need them, congrats to those who are celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
Things got really busy, deadlines loomed and so I cut back on all social media (FB and forums) and got to work. Also, in previous jobs, I was able to pop a note in here now and then during the day when others were taking a coffee break or something, but in my new position, it's been busy all day, every day ... but a good busy. Half the time this month, I haven't known what day of the week it was.
July Highlights
I'm really enjoying work ... it's interesting and one of the best parts is that people are asking my opinion! There is a lot to do and I'm really trying not to look at it at home.
I finished my part of a project I've been working on, in the evenings and on weekends, all year! I had to get that part done by the end of July, so it was head down and focus. There will likely be more work on that project, but for now, I can spend my evenings doing something else. I actually felt a little bit lost for a few minutes last Saturday evening after I had emailed my last document off!
And then I started catching up on other things.
My cycling club has been planning our new season ... lots of emails back and forth about that but we're getting close, and I created 3 new routes and am working on a 4th, which I'll continue in a moment.
My husband and I cycled our longest distance since his accident in early July (72 km) ... and have done 40 km rides the last two weekends which is more than we've normally done. It's great to be cycling more again! And this is winter.
I've also been doing quite a bit of walking and a little bit of jogging. Between that and the cycling I've had a pretty good month with exercise. I was supposed to do a run last Saturday, but unfortunately had dropped a laundry hamper on my left foot ... and it turned blue. However, cycling was all right ... stiff soled shoes.
My husband and I have started working on the garden again too and have gravelled another section. We've been up to our "gravel shop" three times shovelling base gravel and top gravel to fill an awkward area. We'll be putting in a row of pots with hot pokers ... a blaze of colour.
I've been weeding and planting bulbs for spring too. It's a bit late so we'll see what happens.
And ... there was the Tour de France and Tour de France Femme!
Overall, July was a full-on but good month.
Where I've been walking ...
Flea, I'm thankful for your good news.
Beth, I'm sorry about your father.
Katla, I'm glad you and your husband are together again. Road to recovery.
Barbie, thanks for the thread.

Welcome, Stacey from Maryland! We are glad you have joined us. Great goals, by the way.
Viv, I like your new goals: "be more positive" & "treat my body like a temple"...they resonate with me, too!
I am rejoicing that Katla and her husband are together and safely with loving family. Joy!

Max has arrived. He is now explaining by drawing a diagram how his bike gears work. This morning, after the girls were dropped off at football, his mum took him cycling up to Devil's D y k e . Then she brought him over. The role of the modern parent!
When I was a child my parents kicked us out in the morning and we had to make our own amusement. I spent a lot of it, when I was 9, stealing. (I was very disturbed)
Who wants to see Bea with her "Where's my pizza" face on. Bad luck if you don't.
Nice to see you , Machka.

Thanks Heather!
Looks like you and your family have been having a lot of fun lately.
I forgot to add one thing to my Highlights ...
I'm fully First Aid Certified again. I had the in-person course on July 21 but had to do the longest online module I've ever had to do with one of these before the in-person part. Took me about 3 evenings to get through all the material. It was VERY thorough, but I'm not convinced it was entirely up-to-date. However, it's good to have the refresher.
