Losing Weight on Scales but look more lumpy and fat around the stomach

Hi Guys
I've lost about 9kg and have gone down in clothes sizes but in terms of looks I can see no change except my stomach looks bigger and now has more lumps and rolls then originally? Is this normal? How do I get rid of them ?
Thanks
Emily

Our bodies often look worse while losing weight. We don't lose fat evenly all over, and our skin also needs to catch up.
Your stomach might look bigger simply because the surrounding areas have lost more weight in proportion at this stage.
And more rolls is actually a sign of weight loss: the thinner the layer of fat, the more easily your skin can fold.
Be patient 🙂7 -
Right answer from lietchi! Our fat cells can give up fat from anywhere within an area of body fat - it doesn't come off the outside first and proceed neatly inward. As a result, the fat mass can be more lumpy, bumpy, squishy, floppy . . . and even hang more, since the remaining fat inside the skin conspires with gravity to hang down more. (Think about how a water balloon looks when full - firm and round - vs. when some of the water is taken out with no air to replace the water - squishier and floppier.)
It's part of the normal process. What you should do is keep on keeping on: As the fat continues to deplete (via weight loss), the area will eventually get smaller and less squishy. Some of that can continue even after reaching goal weight.
I get that it can be frustrating, but you have the stick-to-it-iveness to make this happen.
About the only option in the short run might be to wear an inner layer of some kind of close-fitting compressive clothing. I'm not talking waist trainers (too extreme!), but like a spandex/stretchy layer, maybe even Spanx or one of its competitors for dress-up - nothing extreme.2 -
I’ve been in maintenance for three years and still go through this very thing.
It can simply be that your waist and legs have gotten so much thinner, that your torso, waist and belly look larger by comparison.
It’s not that you’ve gotten fatter lumpier or looser. It’s just perception.
For me, the extra skin tends to be very malleable and floppy.
I put in a pair of new jeans today. Didn’t realize they were low rider hip huggers. Was horrified at the nuclear mushroom around my waist and experienced a brief moment of despair. It didn’t look like I’d lost any weight.
And then I realized I was fitting comfortably into a pair of size 27”’s-around my freaking hips, no less- and I had to laugh at my own idiocy and redonculous expectations.
Focus on the positive, not the fail. Less than four years ago, I was struggling to fit into 22W. Why waste the effort bemoaning a soufflé top?
And to paraphrase @AnnPT77, Lycra is your friend, as are high waisted pants and leggings. No one looking at my leggings would know there’s a buncha belly waiting to pop out like a snake from a can of peanuts.5 -
And, hey, Emily. Have someone take some photos of you.
For many of us, it’s much easier to see and gauge change from photos than from the mirror.3 -
liquid collagen helps to firm up the loose skin.2

I think it’s more common than people think. I’m 92 pounds down and still plodding along. Yoga pants, the compression/ slimming kind are my new best friend. Compression and smoothing are what you need in that stage.
I’m currently at the bat wings and ribcage…. hip bones, collar bones… oh hello, cheekbones!…and floppy tummy & saddle bags stage. I’m a mess. 😂
I am not discouraged. I’m pressing on. I’ve had 5 children, I have major medical issues… I am making the best choices I can for my body every single day. I will get there, but in the meantime…
Compression pants, Victoria Secret two cup push up bras… I use firming cream. I take good care of my skin and my hair.
Just keep going. This is the inbetween. Ever do a remodel project in your home? The walls are coming down…there is drywall dust and ugh…not the dream you had envisioned… but one day, the junk has been hauled away, the ladders back in the garage, drop cloths are all folded up, and everything falls into place. Don’t give up because there is a little construction debris… Just Keep Going!8 -
