Ah yes, take the best feature and make it premium. Well, for what I use your app for, it's now on par with Samsung Health. Thanks for saving me the space on my phone as I will be uninstalling well before October 1st.....likely once I finish this post (which I'll be interested to see if the Admins allow it to stay).
Your decision has been made, and so had mine. Best wishes as you venture down this path.14 -
You’ll still be able to log over 14 million foods from MyFitnessPal’s database — one of the world’s largest
I think I can confidently say that at least 13 million of these are incorrect and or simply duplicates with different names or brands.
Is this all going to get fixed?11 -
A little thing about "premium" content is it's usually content that has been developed after the application's inception, functionality that enhances the user experience.
You don't do this with something that's long-established, has always been a part of the free experience.....being blunt, that's called "*kitten* over" your loyal fanbase.
I guess the great minds at MFP can't think of any new functionality to make a premium membership worth it, so next up is systematically stripping away the popular content and making it premium.28 -
They can't even fix the notifications issue. Don't hold your breath.6

This is one of the major functions of this application so you I can understand why you now want to make money off of it. I will after many years be moving on. Your premium service isn’t worth the money!!!9

Easy enough to enter the info manually if it's not already in the DB.
So, IMO, no reason to get in a huff an uninstall what is still one of the best cal counting apps that's still available for FREE.6 -
Yes, just as easy as it is to enter it manually in another app. It's a good app, but it doesn't have the monopoly on calorie counting and other comparable apps are just as capable. This just seems like a sign of what's to come.
Again, I have no problem with creating new features, and then putting that behind a paywall. It's when you take a feature that drew many to this app, a feature that was always part of the free use, and then yank it away to sell a membership that they're obviously having issues pawning off as valuable, that's when I have an issue with your business practices.
Yes, MFP does it well, but they're not the only game in town.
Thanks for not getting what's happening, and will likely continue to happen, so I think I'll just finish getting in a huff and complete the uninstall.17 -
I've been using this app for almost a decade. Now you're going to take away the most useful feature in order strong-arm people into paying a subscription? NO THANKS. Try innovating. This is pure GREED, plain and simple.16

couldn’t agree more. I have loyally used MFP for 10 plus years and have promoted the app through my workplace and friends alike. This is possibly the worst business decision they could make. What is the first thing I did when I read my email tonight? I searched for a way to provide my shocked and discouraged feedback. I work for a large healthcare organization and while personally, I use the free version, the recommendations I have made over the years have unequivocally outweighed my free membership. I will refer no more. Truly very saddened by this and the 50% off first year comment came way too late in the email. I’m shocked I even made it that far. I’m beyond saving as a customer or referral at this point. I also hope you reverse this self-destructive business decision prior to October. If I haven’t paid for the app in 10 years, there’s no way I’ll pay for barcode scanning now. You’ve lost me and my referrals. AND there’s other apps that I will use in your stead. Sad day for MFP and our history together.12

I "get" what's happening but it's irrelevant to me so far.
When it's no longer irrelevant, then I'll consider other options which I certainty know exist.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Ciao, baby!

Hmm. ok. I use the scanner every now and then and always remember why I should not: I always get wrong information, info in cups, from other countries, or completely different products. If the scanner gets me the right result 1 in 5 then I'm happy.5

Same for me, but I'm guessing that's because we're not in the US (so less people populating the database in our countries). I've noticed differences in the quality of bar-code scan results when I travel abroad.2 -
Don't worry about it - you can enter all your foods manually and if you don't want to there are other apps with a free barcode scanner - don't sweat the small stuff 😁1

What a horrible decision. The barcode scanner should remain free to everyone.9

Agree with these posters - I rarely use it as more often than not it brings up the wrong product anyway.0 -

There will always be people who say "well it doesn't bother me so there aren't any problems"... 🙄8 -

Exactly this is why premium is not worth it4 -
I agree with you all. I have been using the app for many years and this is unacceptable!5

literally the only reason i still use the app. oh well3

As a UK based basic member, who DOES use the barcode scanner about 2-3 / week, this is a massive backward step.
If I’m going to have to put all the data in for every new or updated food (I tend to eat mainly the same things and mainly fresh, but changes or pre-prepared stuff happen too) I’m probably going to just “quick add” a calorie number.
Like I used to with a notepad and pencil.8 -
I'll probably switch to cronometer, I think they have a barcode scanner4

The barcode scanner is just a different way to search the database: instead of scanning, you'll have to enter keywords and then select the right entry. For foods that have changed or that don't exist yet, I don't see what the difference would be between scanning the barcode and typing the name of the food: you'd still need to correct/create the entry?3 -
Anyone else using free version disappointed they are taking the scanner away? MyFitnessPal app has helped me tremendously on my weight loss journey but I cannot afford to pay the premium. It has been a great tool to have for scanning when you find foods that are on the log incorrect. Just wondering if anyone else was as disappointed as I am. ❤️5

Me 🙋🏾♀️ I'm can't even believe that they think this is a good idea.3
-
It's a deal breaker. I'm currently looking at a few other apps. It's a shame because I've used MFP for years, but I'm outta here as soon as I find something that works.3
-
Switching to Lose It! app for now. The full screen invasive ads and the now putting the scanner behind their overpriced subscription has caused me to switch. Once I get things switched over I'll delete my account.6
-
Yea I'm trying to use cronometer now and I don't like it lol. It doesn't split the diary out by meal, every food item goes into one big list. I don't like that. I will check out macrofactor.1
