Less Alcohol ~ NOVEMBER 2022 ~ One Day At A Time

I'm looking for how others balance out alcohol. I am a daily drinker, when I get home I enjoy a few beers, seltzers or shots. Every time we go out to eat, we have margaritas. I've been trying to quit but find it kind of difficult because its like a treat for me. I cant tell you honestly the last AF day I had besides when I didn't feel good. I had originally posted this in Octobers thread till I scrolled and seen a new one for November. I don't even know where I want to start really. I know I want to lose weight and I have surgery coming up in 2 weeks. I also want to inspire my husband to slow down on drinking too. I feel that I would be a huge influence and inspiration for him if he sees me drinking less.
I totally understand. I was drinking daily as both a habit and a treat. The best I can tell you is look at the resources at the top of the sun, and to find non alcoholic substitutes for your treat. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- the right glass matters!!!

A bright good morning to you all. And a hello to the NEW folks joining in on our thread.
@SunnyDays930 awesome to see you back on here. You always have great informative advice.
November so far for me has been all dry . The time spent with our friends visiting for 2.5 days went well with LESS drinking on my end.
But WOW... can that couple pound the drinks to themselves (and of course my husband had to keep up with them).
Finding the spots around town that serve Heineken00 or Coors Edge proved helpful. I am thinking this area could really use a much dryer drinking platform to offer people like us here. Could be a brand new business adventure for me, you never know 😉
Right now steering towards what I called NO-vember a few years back.
Saying NO to having drinks daily, saying NO to having more than two on any given A day, saying NO to making up excuses.
Happy Friday

@dawnbgethealthy your veggies are beautiful BUT that snow is why I moved out of New England.
The only white stuff on the ground I want to see is white sand on our beaches 🤣7 -
@joans1976 so sorry to hear you need to say goodbye to your beloved kitty cat. Hugs!
@dawnbgethealthy i can’t believe you have that much snow, and have to dig through it all to get your harvest! Egads. It’s in the 70’s here this week. Can’t get my mind around the difference in our weather.
Slept terribly last night because I had two glasses of wine instead of my usual one. Oh boy did I pay for it! Wound up sleeping in and missed my workout. At least I have a tennis match later so that’s something, but no strength for me today. Now, I could do one downstairs where the weights are, but I’m already so behind in my schedule it’s not going to happen.5 -

Hi! I'm on a quest for good substitutes, too. I like my after-work wind-down time and ritual. Many of the mocktail recipes have lots of sugar or require too many crazy ingredients - - so if you find a doable one, please post.
I bought a bottle of Seedlip Grove hoping it would be a kind of gin & tonic substitute, but it isn't. Adds a bit of something but not what I'm looking for. The Fever tree mixers have been a nice find (light ginger beer, light sparkling lemonade) and the Q ginger ale (will try others, too.) The one bottle of non-alchoholic wine was awful - - straight down the drain. I am going to get some non-a beer for the weekend. The quest continues!
Not drinking has been great for my weight loss journey. It's not just those calories. It's also the snacks that went along with them.
Good luck!

Goal - stay AF until Thanksgiving trip to family.

Hello friends, I missed you and I am back! Sincere apologies...I had personal issues with a very close friend pass away and I was away traveling to visit the family. Challenging few weeks but I am back home now and want (and need) to get re-calibrated along with the rest of you.
Happy that @MissMay found her new happy place and @dawnbgethealthy is magically finding vegetables in her snowy garden.
I appreciate the honesty and transparency of this group. You motivate me to becoming a better person everyday and for this I feel thankful. Tomorrow I will set a new goal, post it, and do it. The mind sets it, and the body will follow.

Saying goodbye to my dear Kitty Peanut this morning. It breaks my heart. She is 18 and it is time to let her go, it’s just never easy. I am glad I can at least give her the gift of peace.

A good mocktail find! I mixed 2 oz of OJ with Fever tree Light Ginger Beer and 1 tsp of Grenedine. Added a splash of lime juice, too. I'm going to keep playing round with this one.
I live on an island in Florida without many stores. I'm headed "off the rock" today for a hike and will use this as an opportunity to stop in at a Total Wine Store to stock up on mocktail supplies.
So sorry to hear about the loss of your Kitty @joans1976 May you find peace in the days to come.6 -

@MissMay
That beach is white indeed!! Lol, it does kind of look like snow.
I am so glad that you made that move, it looks wonderful.
To those looking for low calorie mocktails there are lots of things to be done with Cran10 and Slim10, which both come in many flavours.
I use only 4 ounces of one of those in the blender with ice and a couple of drops of a McCormick flavour extract.
Alternatively, Ice (zero calories) also comes in various flavours and is very nice to have in a chilled champagne flute. Like @Womona said, a fancy glass makes everything seem like a treat.
AF beer can range from 10 calories up to a whopping 100 calories depending on the brand.
@MissMay makes amazing fancy AF cocktails (mocktails), but she doesn't need to worry about calories : - )3 -

This November the 28th, (my late Dad's birthday) will mark my 4th year on this thread.
Not only has it kept me accountable for my alcohol consumption, it truly has become a community for me, especially while we were in various lockdowns.
Sticking with my (reachable) goal of the last few years, 16-20 AF days. I have been successful each month with this expect for most recently in September when I was having a Margarita every day in Mexico and reached only 14AF for the month.
Diary Style:
Tuesday November 1st - 2 drinks - Cold, hungry, tired, willpower nill
Wednesday November 2nd - 2 drinks - Ditto from Tuesday - Weather is turning quickly and am digging through snow to get beets and carrots out during my work breaks - it is forecast to go to minus 20 in a few days and no root vegetables will be diggable at that point - not willing to lose my crop (my food for the winter) so have been begging for a couple of more hours off each day to get this done.
Thursday November 3rd - 2 drinks - Obviously drinking all week
Friday November 4th - 2 drinks - I guess that I haven't even been trying to be AF. Got the last 6 foot patch of random potatoes dug up, a nice big bowl of them. Going to spend the weekend cooking/processing probably

A- Nov 5 (1 wine)
Are you sharing with friends that you are on an AF journey? We went for dinner last night with friends. I had a seltzer at the bar. We ordered a bottle of wine at the table and my friend announced she had stopped drinking during the work week! That made it easy to just have 1 bottle (for 4, not for me!)
@MissMay those mocktails are stunning! Any recipes?

For November, I will do my best to keep it at 1 or less a day. Doctor put me on a calorie-restricted diet. She says I have no room for drinks and I need to fix my weight now. So there you go.
Yesterday I did have 2, a mini fizzy rose and a mini champagne. Excuse was to fight off jet lag.
I am sorry for any of you going thru a challenging month. What I have learned is there is ALWAYS an unexpected challenge around the corner. We may as well get smart and deal with it with a sharp mind.
Sunday plans: get in a short run now and then do an easy casual hike with hubby. Fish tacos tonight and I will buy 1 champagne "piccolo". Only 1 since a) they are $$$$ and b) I only have 125 calories I can spare in my diet plan. Food is a priority.

Hello everyone
Popping back in. this month is a so/so start for me. I own it my behavior.
Some family drama on DH side lately along with our homeless population and now the finance guy for the buyer of the building is going to visit on Tuesday. Sheesh I hope they don't back out. DH is shutting down working as of the end of this month and empty the building by December 31.
As always @MissMay your mocktails look marvelous!
I tasted a salted caramel whiskey this weekend at total wine and more. That is dangerous stuff for me. sweet and went down to smooth. Like a caramel syrup on ice cream.....I ran and will keep the taste in my dreams not my counter.
Ok got to run, and yep like other places the weather is changing and we are being rained on...a lot LOL finally.

Nov 3- Nov 4- Nov 5 A (wine 3 glasses each)
Nov 6 - Nov 7- AF4 -
AF - Nov 1, 2, 3, 4
A- Nov 5 (1 wine), 6 (4 oz wine)
So yesterday I tried a Becks NA beer. Won’t toss the 6 pack but likely won’t buy again. Didn’t have the hoppy taste I was looking for.
My husband opened a bottle of beer our friend brewed and I had a taste of that with dinner.
Going to try for AF from here to Thanksgiving but there may be some surprises along the way.
Happy Monday!5 -
Here it is MONDAY. WOO HOO!
On Saturday I resumed my workout routine regime. I now have to share my gorilla mat, free weights, etc in a part of my livingroom.
I was intimidated at first, but ya know, I get just as great a workout as I did having an entire room/studio at my other location.
I now have french doors to look out at my back yard while doing crunches or pumping iron. It is a nice.change, actually.
A little known fact:
It's not that your getting old people that you have slowed down.
It is because you have LOST MUSCLE.
Lift a heavy box, do some squats or use big soup cans to build those triceps. It does not cost a lot to get healthy.

Reasons to celebrate! My cancer is 100% curable! I will need surgery and radiation which will be in about a month. I will have some lymph nodes removed too and if those come back cancerous, I will need chemo. I will also be put on medications that put me in early menopause which I’m not looking forward to but the outcome could be worse! So grateful!7
