Losing weight happens when you’re mentally ready. It’s half the battle!7
-
Exactly! If your mindset is in it, you can do it!1

I read this on another thread:
"If hunger isn't the problem, then food isn't the solution".
That sure resonates with me.8 -
Yup, resonates with me too!
After I retired, I had to destress first and then when I felt mentally stronger, that's when I started this weight-loss chapter in my life - the penultimate chapter - to be followed by the final chapter titled 'Lifelong Weight Management'! Not ever shipping all the way back, ever again.3 -
Shout out to @swimmom_1 - how's it going Mary? Still working and working out on your elliptical?? Thinking of you 👋2

I’ve found my people! This is the group I was looking for. I’m not really sure how it happened but I turned 66 in September. It seems like I was just in my 30s. I’ve been using MFP on and off for several years. I decided to recommit myself to lose the weight I need to lose once and for all.
Due to returning to school, medications, menopause and health issues over the past 15 years I’ve gained 70lbs. I have hypothyroidism and MS. My MS makes physical activity a challenge, but not impossible. I’ve lost 10lbs in the past few weeks since restarting my weight loss journey. My goal is to lose between 40-50 more lbs depending how I feel. Since I have so much weight to lose it feels overwhelming. My fear is that I will lose my motivation once again. I’m hoping being part of this group will help keep me on track and I can do the same for other members.13 -
@ ridiculous59 I love the quote you posted. Very insightful.1

Hello all. Love reading about vacations, and hi to new people.. I’m waiting for hip replacement surgery with no date, so I can’t really book anything and life is pretty dull. we’ve had 2 weeks of family visiting which makes it so much harder to keep on track. I gained the first week, so decided to just try to maintain the second week.I will weigh tomorrow. It’s firework night here in England so we are trying to keep our pets calm.3

Hi all! I was told my BMI was putting me in the high pre diabetic zone. Doc said let’s get ahead of this and start treating you as pre-diabetic now. You are going to be diabetic! You haven’t done anything to stop it. Well that was at 282 lbs. I had an epiphany. Now or never at 61 years! I started counting calories based on every food label I had seen. 2000 calorie diet. MAX! I limited myself to 1700 and started paying attention to fat and carbs. By the time I saw the doc again, I was down almost 70 lbs. MFP came onboard at my docs suggestion. I was paying attention to protein. I now am about to crack the 200 lbs mark and feel confident I will. Habits had to change and the food pushers have silenced. Seven months to lose 30 years of overeating. Well worth it. Not a diet, moderation and nutrition. People pay more attention to what they feed their dog than themselves! Stick to the plan and then just wait. Add years to your life! I’m off blood pressure meds and my blood work is exemplary. Everybody wants to go to heaven, just not today.10

I identify with many of the struggles. Lifelong obesity, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes for years. I was 300 (at 5’2”!) for years. Got down to 270 on my own and have lost 100# with MFP. It took some years. I’m 75 now and still could lose twenty pounds.
However, my type 2 diabetes is totally controlled. My blood pressure is now fine after 35 years of meds. The doctor is happy with me.
I’ve managed to maintain the loss for three years now. There are so many wonderful benefits including health. I don’t panic about airline travel - seatbelt has plenty of slack and people fit comfortably next to me. Restaurant booths are okay again. I can shop in the regular size clothes department. I used to fear losing my luggage especially on cruises cause it’s not easy finding 2x-3x clothes everywhere. Especially underwear!
Oh and the biggest bonus is I no longer fear the camera. I’m nowhere near young or thin but I’m not the biggest person in the photo. Just fairly average which something I’m still getting used to.11 -
All that positive stuff being said about my weight loss doesn’t negate the fact that I would love to lose another 20-25 lbs. But it’s slow going now and the motivation is low!6

Yoolypr you are truly inspiring. I have 40-50 lbs to lose which feels so overwhelming. I give you a lot of credit for your dedication you had to staying the course to losing 130lbs. You should be so proud of your self.1

For those of you who need to lose or have lost 75+ pounds, you might try joining this group: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/133315-larger-losers
Things are a bit slow there right now as members are dealing with various life issues but it’s a very supportive group. I recommend reading older posts from a former member Novus Dies. Excellent advice!2 -
I have been logging the best I can, but many of the places we have been to are small and don't have calorie counts so I estimate using entries that look close. I estimate I have probably been eating over maintenance but not too bad, maybe 100 or 150 calories a day. So less than a half pound for the 10 days... of real fat gain. I know I will be up because of airline travel but that should be water retention that should go away in about a week. It's happened before.
Anyway, love love being here in Hawaii! Be back in the real world on Saturday afternoon ( overnight flight and 5 hour time difference).
Check in with you all later.
It's been over a week since we have returned from our trip to Hawaii. I think I did a pretty good job estimating my calories. I waited a week to weigh in so that the water weight from the flight would have time to diminish. I weighed in at 147.4, exactly the same weight as I did 3 weeks prior shortly before we left. I know I was slightly over maintenance while there, but did not go overboard as I have in the past. The week after we got back I returned to my normal eating and exercise which allowed me to lose whatever fat I had gained plus the extra water. I was pleased. I know now that vacations don't have to undo all my hard work. I was able to enjoy the food and not gain back the weight!

@Pdc654 - fantastic results, you did it - you went on vacation, enjoyed yourself, and did not gain - you should feel very proud of this accomplishment and what it bodes for your future. 👏 👏 👏3
-
@Pdc654 Good job! That's exactly how we are supposed to do it 🙂1

Thank you @BCLadybug888 and @ridiculous59. Yes, this CICO method really does work!3

Just a reminder that patience is required for weight loss too.5
