globalhiker wrote: »Hello friends,
Catching up here. @joans1976 I went through some maybe similar medical issues and surgeries and I sense (and wish and expect) a good outcome.
Tonight my husband said something to me that made sense - each and every day, no matter what happens in life, I need to put myself first. I am a royal failure at this.
Each and every day, my goal should be to charge up my own batteries and empower myself, before I begin my work day and get involved in starting to help others and my clients.
He is right. I need to look out for #1 each morning, charge up my batteries, then be ready to hit my goals for the day. This has to be a pre-planned daily event, agreed with myself and non-negotiable (meaning no excuses).
Yup. Time to take charge of #1.
@globalhiker What your husband said resonates with me. I also am a Royal failure at this. Before my diagnosis recently, I’m sure many people on here read about me complaining of stress from my job. I still work the same job, with the same stress, same boss, I just have put up all these boundaries to protect myself and my sanity. I’m sending emails back and simply saying “no” to things I should have been saying no to years ago. And the sky has not fallen. I still have my job. I still help people every day.
Sorry for the rant. I 100% agree you need to put #1 first, for the whole day, everyday. 💪🏼

Hi everyone! I didn’t realize that I haven’t been on this thread in almost 2 weeks. Well, it shows in my weight (which is up) because I also haven’t been logging food, and have had only one AF day in November so far. Also blew off not one but two workouts this week! So back at it starting today.
@joans1976 so glad to hear it’s 100% treatable!!!! Woo hoo! What a relief.
@lmlmrn thinking of you as you approach closing on the building!
@bethellen71 and @leonajeant welcome!!!!!!
@globalhiker so sorry for your loss!7 -
Checking in and welcoming our new participants. And giant wave to Andy back with us ( we need your male perspective and interaction in here)
@joans1976 big sigh of releif that it is curable. You are a strong woman! Many hugs your way.
So I have had a trip planned since last May and we have been here since Monday. BUT guess where it is? Orlando Florida!!!
Right in the middle of tropical storm Nicole(I despise that female name) 🌫☔🌴⚡🌬🌧
Had some fun on the way down here and the first day we arrived. Now stuck(I am kidding of course) in a villa bigger than my new house. Added on an extra day to stay out of the path of rain and wind.
It would have been more if a disappointment if we had come here like many to just golf the beautiful grounds. Being a trooper thru it all, mostly bummed the water aerobics class got scratched this morning. 😭
Some how palm trees take on a lovely look, blowing sidesways in a 60 MPH gust of wind and rain.
Spilled milk? Lick it up!
1 alcohol drink on Monday evening.
2 Wednesday
Done with A for the remainder of trip back home Saturday.

November accountability: 2 days AF
Alcohol: 7 days (18 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
11/9 - 3 drinks ; complimentary champagne when entered restaurant + 1 glass wine + 1 B&B when returned home
Total fail last night. I had resolved not to drink alcohol when DH & I met up with DH's brother for dinner. However we walked into the restaurant and they handed us a glass of champagne before seating us. From there I did not resist. Why ? Because I had already blown my AF evening.

@dawnbgethealthy - You would have loved the cucumber serrano margarita. These are really tasty! Not sweet or sugary, not citrusy, doesn't taste like cucumbers ... just a really smooth light drink. Ambriza mexican restaurant does these really well.
I was getting it on the rocks without salt like I do most margaritas but my sister said try the 1/2 and 1/2. hmmmm frozen margarita instead of ice so that the drink doesn't get watered down. Very good idea.3 -
@leonajeant
Yes, people's "fun" that revolves around drinks have very small worlds.
Our @MissMay gets out there and tears up the dance floor, sans alcohol.
I remember a couple of Christmases ago where it was an absolutely beautiful day. The "group" was sitting around drinking. I suggested "let's go outside, have a walk, make a snowman, go skating on a lake", snowshoe, cross-country ski, just get outside, but nope. Those people have since moved away, but it made me think about how many people's get togethers revolve around drinking.
Finding friends who do not drink seems next to impossible. If you find one spend more time with them.
If you are the one not drinking around drinkers they seem so very boring. Like what a waste of a day.3 -

This November the 28th, (my late Dad's birthday) will mark my 4th year on this thread.
Not only has it kept me accountable for my alcohol consumption, it truly has become a community for me, especially while we were in various lockdowns.
Sticking with my (reachable) goal of the last few years, 16-20 AF days. I have been successful each month with this expect for most recently in September when I was having a Margarita every day in Mexico and reached only 14AF for the month.
Diary Style:
Sunday November 6th - AF - Maybe I got it out of my system, even if I didn't, I do want to string a bunch of AF days together.
Monday November 7th - AF - Barely any work this week, which is usually a recipe for me to have drinks since I don't have anything pressing. Last week I was just too darned exhausted, and way too easily slipped right back into having drinks every single day. Terrible for my weight, and that has been my motivator since day 1: drink less to lose weight.
Tuesday November 8th - AF - That was a white knuckler, I very much wanted to have a couple of drinks. Minus 18c here this morning as I type this. I just found out this morning that everyone at the restaurant is sick so that I will be doing a marathon open til' close. I am now very glad that I did not give in to my desire for drinks last night!! The old gal from the service staff to the rescue lol. It will be a challenge not to have drinks after a very long shift like that, but going to try to be AF for Wednesday.
Wednesday November 9th - 2 drinks at the end of a very long day. I shouldn't complain, @globalhiker works those long days every day. I was alone in the restaurant all day, normally there are 2 people for the evening shift. It was hectic and I just couldn't get to everything (like the Skip the Dishes orders coming in). I had some absolutely wonderful diners, it was a wonderful experience. I didn't even try not to pour a drink when I got home. No idea what will happen today, whether anyone is recovered and will come to work or not. I took a whole cooler of food there for yesterday, grazing stuff like peppers from my garden and hummus. I left it all there last night in case today is another marathon.
Rolling total: 3AF days out of 9 days6 -

I really really really hope that you will post some photos and narrative from your vacay!!
For you of course Dawn
I'm actually quite bad at posting photo's even on my own social media
We split our time between Istanbul and North Cyprus. Istanbul is a crazy mad boiling pot of 30 million people! But there was a lot of history I wanted my daughter to see.
Cyprus was chilled and wild. Good food and (cough) drink. Our daughter adopted a posey of local dogs to feed and play with

Finally just told myself I needed another AF evening to add to my November record. Drank a spicy tomato juice and then ice tea ... and did not indulge in the bourbon & coke with DH.

Really nice pictures @Stockholm_Andy, the deep blue skies and sea especially. Thanks for sharing that vibe!
@MissMay, I hope you have some Orlando pix? I used to go to the St. Pete and Sarasota areas and have to say mid-late November is really a great time to go.
Contemplating sticking around a few more months in my very toxic job which I guarantee will lead to bad health....and consider either asking for a part time role and if my wishes are not granted, then be prepared to say good-bye.
Sometimes you just need to take charge of #1 and thank you @joans1976, @dawnbgethealthy, and others for your comments. Sometimes the toxicity in your life is not the alcohol, it the other stuff - work, family, situations, etc. And the solution is getting this toxicity out of one's life.
Not drinking or eating much these days but not exercising much either, so I am just not myself these days.

Hey everybody! This is my 5th month and I am so grateful to have found this group!
My goal is to not turn to alcohol this month no matter how stressful work or my physical health gets!
Best wishes to everyone to meet their goals this month!
11/1-11/7: 7 AF
11/8: AF
Just so tired all the time.
11/9: AF
I’m an eating machine. Seem to be eating my emotions.
11/10: AF
Finally Friday! I have 4 appointments and I plan to sleep between all of them!6 -
@globalhiker I say make a plan now for exiting the toxic job, if you can. You probably cannot or you would have left already. I had a plan to be gone from my toxic job by mid January, then my diagnosis came along and all of that has gone out the window. I should be spending more time figuring it out but I don’t know where I’ll be in a month, two months, three with my treatment so it’s hard to plan. I don’t know why we stay at toxic jobs-for me it’s partially the fear of the unknown.
No matter what you decide to do, I’m rooting for you!4 -

Those photos!! Wow!
Such compelling painting was done on the dresser mirror area! We have a couple of painters here on this group, that just might spark some inspiration.
I enjoyed all of the scenery and settings, but I always love to see markets from around the world, so I am very glad that you included a photo of that.
Thank you for sharing : - )

@globalhiker
I know that you will feel better if you get out for a little run.
Good plan to try to move to part time.3 -
@joans1976
Yeah, a plan to quit your job will have to go on hold as you need to go through treatments.2
