Less Alcohol ~ NOVEMBER 2022 ~ One Day At A Time

This November the 28th, (my late Dad's birthday) will mark my 4th year on this thread.
Not only has it kept me accountable for my alcohol consumption, it truly has become a community for me, especially while we were in various lockdowns.
Sticking with my (reachable) goal of the last few years, 16-20 AF days. I have been successful each month with this expect for most recently in September when I was having a Margarita every day in Mexico and reached only 14AF for the month.
Diary Style:
Saturday November 19 - Drinks. Bought some sweet vermouth to make a manhattan. Chilled it for 15 minutes in the shaker, chilled the glass with the cherry in it etc. Had one sip (delish) then put the glass down and knocked it over and broke it. Moved on to something else. I have to get 8 more AF days in!
Rolling total: 8AF days out of 19 days7 -
Hey everybody! This is my 5th month and I am so grateful to have found this group!
My goal is to not turn to alcohol this month no matter how stressful work or my physical health gets!
Best wishes to everyone to meet their goals this month!
11/1-11/7: 7 AF
11/8-11/14: 7 days AF
Rolling total: 14 out of 14 days AF
11/15: AF
Yesterday was the first day since my diagnosis that I was able to work a full 10 hour day without a nap or anxiety attack. It felt good.
I have a surgery date, December 6. I also figured out I have 14 doctors appointments between today and December 6. I guess they like to keep you busy?
11/16: AF
I feel like I’m a bundle of joy (note: sarcasm) every time I write. Biopsies of lymph nodes today. I slept awful last night and I’m just not able to put a positive spin on this today. 😮💨Deep breath. Gotta move forward.
11/18: AF
I can’t believe it’s already November 18! Yesterday’s procedure was painful and long. Sleeping last night was kind of a joke. I’m icing my armpits now, which is a weird feeling and a weird thing to type.
Let’s go out there and kick this world’s *kitten* today! 💪🏼
11/19: AF
Still in pain from Thursdays procedure. Kinda depressed today. Gotta figure out how to get out of this funk.
11/20: AF
Stress. Can’t even post about it.
11/20: AF
Somehow I got my dates messed up, I post the next morning about the day before.
Right before I woke up I was dreaming I was drinking a beer, which is odd because beer has never been my drink of choice. In the dream I could taste it and feel the bubbles on my tongue, it was very real.
Starting today until my surgery December 6 my work hours are 7-3 instead of 8 to whenever I get finished. I put out a message stating some firm boundaries about contacting me and frankly, if people bother me outside of work times, I won’t reply. It’s too bad a cancer diagnosis was what made me get to this point.
Happiest of Mondays to all. 🤪8 -
@dawnbgethealthy Sorry to hear about the sad Manhattan incident. If you don’t get your AF days in, there’s always next month and we are still going to be here!3

November accountability: 5 days AF
Alcohol: 16 days (34 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
11/20 - 3 wine ; my sister came over for dinner and we opened 2 bottles of wine7 -
Sending more good thoughts to @joans1976. Good for you for setting limits at work!
@dawnbgethealthy the Manhattan incident! Oh no!
DH and I went to an Irish pub in our town last night. Our family had been going there for years until it closed during COVID. New owners bought it, updated it and re-opened this weekend. They did a good job - - enough of the old to be familiar but much more inviting now. I had the signature potato soup (not a lo-cal choice!) but skipped the beer. I went with a "clear virgin cape cod" (just soda water from the bar tap). I'm saving the drinks for tonight's dinner with a friend and then Thanksgiving.
AF - Nov 1-4, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13 -17, 19, 20 [total: 15]
A- Nov 5 (1 wine), 6 (4 oz beer), 9 (1wine), 12 (beer), 18 (beer) [total: 5]
Have a good day!5 -
@Lilylady3k happy anniversary!!!!
@joans1976 welp, there’s one good thing about your cancer diagnosis, your new-found ability to set work boundaries. A very dim silver lining, to be sure, but hey, let’s take our wins where we can!
Only one glass at lunch, still slept terribly last night. Hmmm. I’ll be AF today, but tomorrow is lunch out, Wednesday is wine night at work, and then I gird my loins for hosting Thanksgiving. I’ll really have to moderate, and not go over two all day. Micro-sips to the rescue!5 -
Hi All - I'm Robyn. I've been away but I'm back. I have found that I don't meet my goals without the support of this group and I've also missed everyone. Since I started late, my goal this month is 10 AF out of 18.
11/20: AF - Last night I wanted that glass of wine with dinner but I didn't do it, which was the plan but it was hard. I had to really have the conversation with myself - ya' know - the one with the angel me on one shoulder and the devil me on the other.

I have only had one month since November 2018 that I didn't reach my goal, and that was September of this year. I think that I can make it : - )
Manhattan's aren't going anywhere, I could have made another right then and there. I have the ingredients if I feel like having one some other time.
So glad that you set boundaries at work. That was overdue. I feel like this is going to really help with your work stress.
I also do all of my posting in the mornings, the morning after on this one. Long ago I got in this habit because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to have a drink after posting. I posted if I made it to morning without drinks, or with. It is not as dangerous any more, but when I was weaning myself off of daily drinks that is how it was. Now I just don't go on to the forums in the evenings at all, easier to do everything in the morning with my coffee.6 -

Sunday November 20 - AF - Getting closer to the 50%. I picked up several extra shifts at work for people this coming week which can go either way: too tired to bother having drinks, or too tired for my willpower to work. Aiming for AF days the next 4-5

11/21 - AF; DH & I didn't even talk about opening a bottle of wine or pouring another drink ... just not feeling like a drink which is a good way to start the week7 -
Oh boy, what a long, long, busy day at work. Thank God we are out of wine because I totally wanted some when I crawled home after 9:00 tonight!!! I think I would have caved. The wine devil would have totally won the argument that @RockinRobyn672 was talking about !!!!! Well, I’ll take the AF win even if it wasn’t based on my own willpower. Any little bit helps.
PS. The craving passed now that I finally had some dinner. So I’m claiming willpower now! Haha!4 -
Dinner with friend tonight that, coupled with some travel anxiety, led to 2 glasses of wine. After really cutting back on drinking, I am feeling them! Made tea as soon as I got home to avoid a 3rd glass of wine.

I’m remembering now, last Thanksgiving my mom and I worked really hard on the food and my brother was 4 hours late. So we said screw it and drank way too much before dinner was even on the table. I think I was passed out on the couch by 4:00. This year will be a lot different.

Monday November 21- AF - Very long day with very little food until I got home. Dinner was more important to me than drinks apparently. Watched HGTV during my nice healthy dinner, and Pensacola was on. Thought of our @MissMay

Oh gosh I am so sorry to not have followed up on our homeless plight! But first let me say I got caught up on all your posts. Lots of good, a bit of bad and some ugly but I think we will get through the holiday.
My stress level has gone through the roof. Our unwanted guest have, if you can believe it, gotten even worse! Our security alarm keeps going off. 2am Saturday, 1pm Sunday .....DH drove down on wee hours Saturday morning...to find the homeless were parking in our parking lot now. Sunday when we went down an RV was blocking most of the entrance to the lot but the car was gone. I was so mad I banged on blocking RV and told them to MOVE. He hopped out all apologetic blah blah. But did not move while we were there. I shoved one of the shopping carts at one of the RV's, tossed a box of canned food at the other....all these things up against our building. I was shaking.
Needless to say I get a call from DH, the buyer wants to meet with him today...this is not a good sign at all. If he backs out I am not sure we can sell the building with the condition of the sidewalk and street parking. I watched a woman drive by on Sunday and just do an open mouth roll by.
My A brain has been working me over but good. But instead of over indulging I have kept it these past few days to 1 glass of wine sipped slowly over the period of the evening.
Ok enough of my drama!
Good news is I am hosting Thanksgiving and my planned drink may or may not happen. I am thinking most likely not. Just a few of us and most don't drink at all. So why bring it out?
I am going to have to find some new pictures of the sock clan. They are due to return.
Oh need an opinion. My DD and SIL with grandkids will be here for Christmas. I don't buy gifts for the adults but this year since they are making the trek here I thought I would would get them something they would never buy for themselves (the adults). There is a place near them that offers indoor skydiving adventures. What do you think for two adults who don't need a darn thing?

I slept horribly last night-too much on my mind.
I see so many struggling with the fact of Thanksgiving coming up tomorrow. I wish it didn’t cause so much stress. I wish we didn’t have it built up in our minds as some epic, perfect feast.
My dad will buy me a giant Costco bottle of Baileys (even though he hasn’t seem me drink in months) and it will be hard to resist. I plan to resist though.4 -

11/22: AF - Had 2 NA beers with pizza, which was a small win. I really wanted the better tasting high-calorie hazy IPA but I was able to overcome the temptation.
Two tips I heard on the Today Show that I'm going to try for Thanksgiving - 1) Eat slowly; and 2) Take a walk right after the meal. I plan to avoid all mid-afternoon alcohol. I'm taking the ingredients for my virgin Cape Cods (club soda, cranberry juice).
