Hi Everyone. Can I join the over 60s please? I'm 73 and have had to keep track of my weight most of my life. Records show I first joined mfp in 2013 when I lost about 20 pounds and got down to 145 pounds. Moving on 7 or 8 years and I was back up to 165 pounds May 2021. Since then I got back on it and I'm now maintaining at around 134 pounds. I don't want to put this weight back on. At 73 years of age I want to just enjoy being slim enough to look in my wardrobe and know everything fits me. As a yo yoer I need like minded people round me. I do my food diary almost everyday, the only exercise I ever do is a yoga class once a week and that's for oldies so not too hectic.6

Are you still going in November 2022?0

Are you still going in November 2022?
@MyFdLog, yup - looks like. There are already 4 pages at the end of this thread from just this month, and we're only a little bit past the month's mid-point.
As usual with any long-running MFP Community thread, the newest posts are at the end, on the high-numbered pages.
No need to read the whooooole thread in order participate, but if you take a few minutes to read the most recent 2-3 pages, you'll get a picture of the nature of the interaction, plus some of the personalities.
Welcome!1 -
Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone! 😊🤗1

Hi, and welcome @H1L5: You've met the "admission requirements"!
There are people here at all stages of weight management, from just starting out, to maintaining longer term - all of us 60+, or at least close. (I'm maintaining, not far from where you are, age 67.) I'm sure you'll have some good perspectives and ideas to help those just starting, and hope you'll find the support you need, too.
Yoga is great: I've kind of let it slip out of my days most of the time, but I need to work on that. When I make it a point to do some regularly, even just a bit, it makes my joints feel . . . somehow more well-oiled? Good stuff!3 -

@H1L5 you've come to the right place! There are several of us over the age of 70 posting on this thread. I have found so much support and inspiration here. I myself turned 70 in October so I am close to your age. Sounds like you have done a great job losing the weight. I totally understand the yo yo dieting myself. Been there, done that many times over. I have not reached maintenance yet, still in the losing phase, but I am also encouraged by reading the posts of long term maintainers. So many people with good advice on staying the course. Welcome!3 -
yep feel free to add me. 62, soon to be 63. Back to MFP after prolonged absence. Had lost 60# previously with the help of MFP. Unfortunately 40 of them found their way back over the past few years. Tried keto and the weight fell off but I found it not sustainable. Going back to just calories.1

Welcome to all the new people and returning ones!
There used to be a Canadian military helicopter and by the time they were retired from use, they required 30 hours of maintenance for every hour of flying. That is me. I love to run and cross country ski and paddle and snowshoe and hike and walk my dogs. But for every hour of daily activity I do, I feel like I require 30-45 minutes of stretching or yoga 😆 But it keeps me active and moving, which is so important at our age.
We've been visiting our son who recently moved to a new region of the province. Absolutely gorgeous and even though we were visiting, still managed to get in at least 10,000 steps per day hiking with the dogs on snowy trails. Also, I consider walking in snow hard work (not quite enough yet for skiis or snowshoes) so those 10,000 steps feel like way more haha Now it's time to buckle down and eat well for the next month 🙂3 -
It’s never too late - I’m 75. I lost the bulk of my weight (100 lbs.) three years ago. Still fighting with the last twenty pounds. It has vastly improved my health and entire life.
I’m having to rely more on portion control and careful eating to maintain the loss. I go to the gym three days a week and stay active at home. But I’ve developed some health issues that preclude my previous daily 2-3 mile hikes. I enjoyed being outdoors more but my hip bursitis needs more gentle exercises.
Today we hauled out the Christmas decorations. Won’t put everything up until after Thanksgiving Day. But it’s down from the attic. There’s still shopping, writing cards, cookie baking and parties to do. December is not long enough for all the chores!6 -
Hi, I’m not sure who will see this with all the other many posts. I’m 64, only 10 pounds from goal weight, my photo is of me 12 years ago. Looking for friends now. I was here on MFP 2011 and met many nice people. Hoping to find that fun again. 💕6

Me too, +/- 30 lbs.
My health is good. I just fell off the exercise and healthy eating wagon.
I’ve tried to add some of you as friends, but MFP has changed so much since I last used it. I don’t know how to add people anymore!
Add me. 😃4 -
Hi, I post on here occasionally. I am almost 73 (next month!). Lost about 30# when I joined, but would like to lose 10-15# more. I guess I have not been focused enough on that, but have been basically maintaining for years, which is still an accomplishment. I try to walk daily on the treadmill (or outside if nice, but I’m in Iowa, so cold now, lol) & have started “senior” exercises. They focus a lot on balance which is important at our age.3

One way to add friends is to select the user name of the person you want to friend, the hyperlink will take you to their profile page. There’s a friend request button on the member’s profile page.

I’m 65, just lost 28 lbs. Took me 2 1/2 years. I broke my foot in April 2020 just after Covid started couldn’t drive couldn’t walk sat around and ate. And now I am improving my eating habits I find IF (intermittent fasting ) works the best for me and able to lose weight with fasting. I have a thyroid issue so I really have to work hard at losing weight. I have been going to the gym regularly and that helps. I have 20 more pounds to lose now that I’m down to my normal adult fat that I want to shed.3

I’ve been using MFP on and off for several years. I decided to recommit myself to lose the weight I need to lose once and for all.
Due to returning to school, medications, menopause and health issues over the past 15 years I’ve gained 70lbs. I have hypothyroidism and MS. My MS makes physical activity a challenge, but not impossible. I’ve lost 10lbs in the past few weeks since restarting my weight loss journey. My goal is to lose between 40-50 more lbs depending how I feel. Since I have so much weight to lose it feels overwhelming. My fear is that I will lose my motivation once again. I’m hoping being part of this group will help keep me on track and I can do the same for other members.
I have found that making multiple smaller weight loss goals to be very helpful for me. I set very realistic goals that I can surely meet and often find I exceed my goals.
Keep the faith and the motivation. I wish you the best on your journey and new lifestyle.3 -

Hi,
I can really relate to the thyroid issues and it being hard to lose weight! Seems like I have to work twice as hard at tracking calories and getting the right kind exercise. Making sure my heart rate doesn't go above 135 bpm with my A-Fib. I weight lift more than doing heavy cardio because of that fact. It is nice to see someone else working hard and making progress too. I have 40 to 50 more to lose and have lost 40 since May of 2020. It takes as long as it takes I guess.
Best wishes to you in your efforts!5 -
Happy Thanksgiving All!🦃🦃🦃🦃5

Also wishing the USA-ians and beyond a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!
I haven't posted this sort of thing recently, but I'm happy to have 2 different orchids blooming right now, Dendrobium glomeratum, and Zygoneria 'Adelaide Meadows'. I don't have pets any more, but the plants make me happy in a different, milder way.
Those toothy grins on the dendrobium! 🤣🤣🤣

Greetings, seasoned citizens. Late night check-in.
My weight remains stable. Logging meals most days. Still need to get back on a regular exercise program.
We got through Thanksgiving without any major problems. My wife tires easily, though, and so the visit with family was cut short. Ate sensibly, (other than multiple late night slices of pie). 😁
Working on maintaining my "attitude of gratitude". That's been difficult some days. The depression comes and goes, too. Thankful for some friends who check on me regularly.
Keep up your efforts, all. I've seen that commitment to maintaining your health is vital to enjoying life.6 -
Thanks for the check-in @alteredsteve175 and your words of wisdom and encouragement! May we encourage you also.
I assume the pie is no longer an issue 🙃?
@AnnPT77 those toothy grins are so funny! Clever you having orchids bloom for you, thanks for the pics.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend and has something or someone to be thankful for🙏.
Welcome to all the newbies, you sound like a fabulously wise bunch 😉!1 -
Hi, Everyone! I'm Angela. I remember avidly following this thread when I was in my 50s. Now I'll be 61 in less than two weeks.
I took early retirement at the end of 2019 and remember telling myself I had to make it a point to get out of the house and see people every day. I guess we know how that went!
I love being out in nature and discovering new trails to walk.
I hope everyone has a great weekend! 🌞
P.S. Ann, those orchids are stunning!2 -
@AnnPT77 gorgeous orchids. Not just anyone can grow those finicky flowers. Good job!
@alteredsteve175 glad you made it through Thanksgiving without too many slices of pie (Is there such a thing? Sadly, there is 😭).
@PKM0515 welcome back! I retired at age 60 in 2019 and I'm battling with a few extra pounds since then too. I've whined about this before......my battle is with free range eating now that my day isn't as structured as it was before. Have you ever heard of "Forest Bathing"? I've done it all my life but didn't know it was a thing haha It explains why some of us just feel more connected and "whole" when we're outdoors.
I had a most excellent day yesterday. In the morning I met up with two friends and we hiked some short trails through a wooded park, afterwards I met up with some other friends for coffee, ran some errands, and then scurried home and took my two dogs on another short hike through another wooded park before darkness set in. I connected with friends, I connected with nature, I enjoyed watching my dogs happily chasing smells, and I had almost 14,000 steps. That's my idea of a near perfect retirement day!!! 😆4 -

That's right, @BCLadybug888. I showed that pie who's boss! 😁3 -
Hi all, lots to enjoy in these posts. I have had a day of bad eating, now I know I can eat what I want, but I didn’t want it and that was the problem. I made buckwheat pancakes for breakfast, they were awful, tasted like I fried my shoes, and made enough batter for my whole street, for two of us. So I had the bright idea of making vegetable fritters for lunch. They were good, but there were just too many of them. I’m not used to fried food and I felt sick. At dinner time, I still felt sick, but couldn't be bothered to cook so made pizza. I hate pizza.
Better tomorrow.4 -

I hate it when I eat something that doesn't seem worth its calories - however meager those calories may be - but feel like I need to eat it anyway because it's wrong to waste food.
Before anyone comments: Yes, I will throw away food in some of these cases (because I am not a trash can for all leftovers, and they are better off discarded or fed to the wild critters hereabouts than added to my hip circumference). But when I've made a meal myself that doesn't work out to be tasty, I usually feel obligated to eat it as planned. That may be unreasonable, I don't know . . . but it's infrequent enough that I don't feel much impetus to try to rewire myself.3 -
I am hoping it is a lesson learned. I eat porridge all week, but allow myself different stuff at the weekends. I need to think about that. I will try myself with yoghurt for breakfast next weekend.3
