@mfowler883 I agree with you. I really like this crowd.6

@globalhiker The YouTube dance video idea is a great suggestion. I tried one recently that Peloton offers for beginners. I laughed at myself through the whole video!4

@joans1976 I have found that letting them think it is their idea to want to drink less is the key. Pushing or even nudging seemed to always work in reverse for me helping those in denial. 🤞🤞🤞5

This group really helps me hold myself accountable, plus everyone is absolutely great. My monthly goal is 16-19 AF days (3A days max weekly) for weight loss and overall health. I post in the mornings about the previous day.
12/23: Drinks (2)
12/24: Drinks (4)
12/25: Drinks (3)
12/26: Drinks (4) - We ate lunch at an oyster bar and I almost ordered a Bloody Mary with alcohol but made it a virgin last minute (Virgin Bloody Mary - what an awkward name! ). It was pretty good, not great, and I don't think the alcohol would have fixed what was wrong. The oysters were outstanding. I drank 2 planned glasses of wines at dinner and later had a couple of unplanned shots of whiskey at the condo while binging on homemade candy and cookies. Ugh! I hate it when I do that - the alcohol/binge combination.
12/27: AF - It was tempting to have a beer last night after our long drive and several A days during the holiday but I stuck to 1 NA beer and was satisfied. I'm up a few pounds. It's time to get back on track with both food and beverage.
Rolling Total: 14 AF Days out of 27 .... My goal is 16 minimum monthly AF days. I've come close in previous months but didn't quite make it. I will hit that goal this month!6 -
Here it is December 28th......4 more days of 2022.

Huge win win last night
Husband is working evenings so I wanted some social atmosphere and entertainment ( LOL, because my hair was looking perfect , I know some of you can relate to this)
So I dropped him off and then did some xmas gift returning. I was thinking of going right back to our town house but then my car veered into a cool place "on the bayou". I sat at the BAR for a clear unobstructed view to the stage where different singers were performing, ordered fried okra and also bacon/cheese grits AND was drinking H00.
Two fun couples I had never met before or seen (a little older than me) approached, we all began chatting and the next thing ya know we have a NYE party to attend this weekend if we so wish to. Life is funny and exciting at the same time.
Stayed for 3 hours, had a wonderful time.
I must say my husband was a little envious that I was out, until I told him I met some new faces for us to hang out with.
YAY

@MissMay How I miss winter in Florida! I'm looking forward to moving back to southwest Florida next summer, which is the current plan.3

@joans1976
I will post some fun 3 minute dance workouts here when you are ready, just say the word.
@globalhiker mentioned some of the benefits, for sure circulates blood, loosens joints, works on mental as well as emotional health, and of course the physical results.
Finding something that you love to do is key to making it a habit.4 -
I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My primary motivation for drinking less is weight loss.
I throw up if I have more than 3 drinks, so moderation on drink days is rarely an issue for me lol.
My recurring goal is 16-20 AF days per month. I squeaked to 16 last month.
I like to do this diary style to keep track.
Tuesday December 27 - AF - 4 inches of water on top of ice when I left for work. I had a wonderful pedicure after work, but of course when I came home with flip flops on so as not to wreck my toes I had to walk through freezing cold water to get into my house. I definitely felt like having drinks, and I usually do on pedicure days (every 5-6 weeks). I have split shifts Wednesday and Thursday, plus skating at the arena during my 2 hour afternoon break and a job for Foster Grant on Thursday during my split break, so that was the motivation that I used to stay AF. Hit my 16 : - )
Rolling total - 16AF day out of 27 days6 -
I have posted this before, it is where I get my pedicures.
Very Zen for me. The woman hasn't taken a new client since 2010, so I feel very fortunate to be able to see her. She is a nurse and a massage therapist, which is awesome because I am on my feet each day.
@globalhiker that is up the Jimsmith Lake area that we went to.

10 AF days in a row done! I though it would get easy by now!!!. I felt irritable and I wanted good wine. It will just take my brain awhile to fix itself before it stops sending me these irrational thoughts.
I did get a call from one of my best friends who is going to Bordeaux France next week and she invited me. I politely declined. That would be all I'd need...a wine-drinking holiday.
My irritability kicked up a notch after that call. Deep breath. Patience and chocolate will get me through.6 -
I woke up feeling even worse today. Although my husband wasn't much of a nurse I at least knew he was there if I needed something.
I feel very alone and paralyzed over where my life goes from here. I'm trying not to burden others with it. They all get to move on and I am stuck in this nightmare that won't end.
On a positive note not feeling well made it easy to stay AF today.

Hello all! I’m still Amanda, I’m from Michigan. I am still a crazy cat lady and work for a veterinarian. This will be my sixth month with this group and it has helped me cut back on my drinking so much! I am not ready to say I am 100% sober but last month I had 30 days alcohol free 😃
12/1-12/7: 7 out of 7 AF
12/8-12/14: 7 out of 7 AF
12/15-12/22: 7 out of 7 AF
12/23: AF
Day 56 AF yesterday
12/24: A-1 Baileys and coffee
Broke my streak. I feel sort of so-so about this. Just the one drink and it was definitely a “holiday” drink in front of the tree and the fireplace and I sipped it.
12/25: AF
12/26: AF
12/27: AF
I was speaking to my mom last night about New Year’s resolutions. I don’t usually make them but I am going to this year because I feel like I have to take better care of my body and mind. Anyway, she said she would like to drink less! I acted casual so as not to spook her but threw out a few ideas like not drinking more than 2 nights in a row, only 2 drinks a night, etc. she said “remind me in a week.” So we’ll see. We all know a drinker isn’t going to quit until they want to. I can only push gently.
3 days AF
12/28: AF
Oof everything has hurt the past few mornings. I have to move more! Working on that today with baby steps and bigger steps this weekend. Swimming is my exercise of choice but it’s 12 degrees out and I’m no polar bear 😉6 -
I keep seeing PSA for free rides home on NYE for those that drink too much. Honestly, with the availability of Lyft and Uber (in most places) there really is no excuse to drive after drinking. The problem is alcohol clouds our judgment, making us think, "Hey! I am fine to drive!" when we really shouldn't. Not only will I be the sober driver to the party we are attending, I am telling my friend the host, that we are leaving before midnight. I don't want to be on the roads at that time. The month is almost over and I did drink 3 days, one excessively. But 28 AF days is definitely a win and huge improvement and I will take it. I plan to continue to live as AF as I can in January and beyond. I would like it to be a rare treat, if that is possible for me.9

@tmbg1 Looks like you’re doing good! Are you still on break?
@dawnbgethealthy I want to live a day in your life with the snowy ornaments and the ice skating and the Zen massage place
Green with envy!
@MissMay Thank you for posting January and keeping us going. I’m glad you found some new friends but it seems like the party is wherever your at!
@RockinRobyn672 I love that little kitty with all my heart. I love her claws and her little bottle fed face! You’re kitty is very photogenic too!
@Breathe57103 My heart aches for you. I am so sorry you are stuck in this nightmare. Grief is so….relentless. Our situations are different but I lost my best friend of 38 years in March. I was amazed (and angry) that the world kept turning without her. Please let us know if you can think of anything that would help.8 -
@SunnyDays930 You are 100% right. There is no reason to drive. Even when I was younger and irresponsible I always stayed the night wherever I was. My parents best friends got hit by a drunk driver a few minutes after midnight on NYE one year (they were sober) and one of them is permanently disabled from it. As I got older I got more paranoid to be on the roads so now I stay in.
Congratulations on the 28 days AF! You are making huge steps!7
