I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My primary motivation for drinking less is weight loss.
I throw up if I have more than 3 drinks, so moderation on drink days is rarely an issue for me lol.
My recurring goal is 16-20 AF days per month. I squeaked to 16 last month.
I like to do this diary style to keep track.
Tuesday December 27 - AF - 4 inches of water on top of ice when I left for work. I had a wonderful pedicure after work, but of course when I came home with flip flops on so as not to wreck my toes I had to walk through freezing cold water to get into my house. I definitely felt like having drinks, and I usually do on pedicure days (every 5-6 weeks). I have split shifts Wednesday and Thursday, plus skating at the arena during my 2 hour afternoon break and a job for Foster Grant on Thursday during my split break, so that was the motivation that I used to stay AF. Hit my 16 : - )
Wednesday December 28 - AF - Late busy night at work, $$ in my pocket which makes up for it : - ) Planning to stay AF until Friday, planning Prosecco for NYE Saturday. Weight always always comes down when I am AF
Thursday December 29 - AF - That was a toughy, but I somehow convinced myself to stay AF and saving it for the weekend.

@globalhiker
I know that you mentioned AF Mojitos for NYE.
I had been posting Indian inspired cocktails before you mentioned that.
This one looks tricky, but could easily be done AF

AF today. It was a no-brainer given I was hungover from yesterday, from only 3 drinks. I have zero tolerance now.
Dawn, thanks for the jal-jeera drink idea. Never heard of it. I will put it on my list. Looks like a good de-tox drink too!

Made it to AZ. I did not drink on the plane which was a victory. I did have a drink when I got to my house to help me wind down and get to sleep.
I should be AF through next Friday. I will be at my son's home in NM and he no longer drinks alcohol ( both of my boys ages 28 and 30 do not drink.)

Happy New Years Eve! I look forward to being sober at the party and leaving well before Midnight! See you at the New thread in 2023!9

Hi Old and New Friends! Missed everyone here while I took my alcohol break but I'm back and at times challenged with the moderation that I feel is right for me. I've lost my 2 dogs in the past 2 years, and then this month, Mr. Kitty, and it's a tough pill to swallow (without wine to ease the pain). They were all 16, so long, happy lives & memories. But also, 16 years of soulmates. And in some ways, the "children" of my children and me. Gone.
@MissMay I'm headin' down to The Villages in a week through Feb. Can we meet up just like we did in Maine (minus the jackets)--pretty please???
Happy New Year--wishing everyone an adventurous and joy-filled year ahead and look forward to participating in this ever-so-supportive community in 2023!7 -
Remember on December first I started a money jar? I put in notes of how much I was saving not drinking and dining out? I added it all up today at it was $426.00. We still went out quite a bit but I didn't drink alcohol. Just think if my husband was doing it as well. As it is, if that was the average, that is over $5000.00 per year. I sure would rather spend that money on a nice vacation or something. Really eye opening for me. I will do it again for January.
Have a safe night tonight, Friends!8 -
This group really helps me hold myself accountable, plus everyone is absolutely great. My monthly goal is 16-19 AF days (3A days max weekly) for weight loss and overall health. I post in the mornings about the previous day.

12/27: AF

12/30: AF - I did it! I met my goal of 16 AF days. I very much appreciate the inspiration, encouragement, and tips/tricks I get from this group. So yesterday we did not get to go on that bike ride. We had all our gear on and the bikes loaded in the car, but right as we were heading out hubby came down with a stomach bug. I didn't work out yesterday but tracked food and my weight was down this morning, which makes me happy. I've also been icing up an injured knee.
Hubby is feeling better today. If it's not raining tonight, our plan is to ride our bikes on backroads to the boardwalk for NYE. I'm adding the calories for a couple drinks into my food plan for the day. The hard part is not knowing what I'll encounter food-wise at or after dinner. I know what to avoid, but will I? I'm going to find some inspiring articles to psych me up. Feel free to send any suggestions my way!

Wow! That really is an eye opener! I may start that jar too. DH mentioned to me yesterday that he was going to start doing AF days like me. Love it!5 -

Friday December 30 - 2 drinks - A surprise split shift last night, and I worked my other job during my 2 hour break as I normally do. It was late when I got home and I was very tired. I didn't even try to be AF. Nor will I be AF NYE, Prosecco is chilling, champagne flute is in the freezer getting frosty. I am happy with my 18AF days for the month, and reaching my 16-20 every month this year except for September in Mexico when I only got 14 in. Happy New Year everyone.
Saturday December 31 - I will be having bubbly.

@mfowler883 Where are you going?
AF still. Made it to the cabin in Pigeon Forge. Got up this morning and ran down the hill, walked back up. That was challenging but cool. Really wanted to drink last night but nothing on hand so so what, right? Two days on the road with a loaded car and two irritable dogs and bad food and feeling under the weather left me pretty on edge and it didn't take long for the bickering to start. Anyway, slept better and longer than I have in a while. No plans to buy alcohol while I'm here, either, so we'll see where that leaves me at the end of the trip.
Happy New Year to all of you, for the ones that are struggling I hope it gets better. Catch y'all in the other thread, I guess.

Happy NYE to all
As usual my days filled up and time got away from me. It has taken me awhile to catch up on posts but so glad I did!
You all are amazing on this thread, even with the ups and downs, funny and sad, drink or no drink.
My family got off and are back home in OH, and we are concentrating on the interior of our home. We have decided to paint the two rooms I planned and pack our belongings as we go with the goal of having it packed up by March. We will leave the state in May-ish???? maybe sooner. Instead of listing the house before we leave we will use it as our storage unit then drive back to pick up belongings, then put the house on the market.
We can rent a U-Haul and save a few $$...anyway
See you in the new Year6 -
Hello all! I’m still Amanda, I’m from Michigan. I am still a crazy cat lady and work for a veterinarian. This will be my sixth month with this group and it has helped me cut back on my drinking so much! I am not ready to say I am 100% sober but last month I had 30 days alcohol free 😃

Somehow I’ve managed to get myself sick despite having only been to my parents house in the past week. Now I’ve figured out what the body aches are from. I’m going to COVID test after I have my coffee. Dang.
12/31: AF
Covid negative thank goodness. I still feel pretty gross and achey. I have an important in person appointment Tuesday (new medical oncologist) so I have got to get over whatever this is. I have my zinc, Vitamin C, NyQuil, fruit, chicken soup and gallons of water at the ready. I already feel better than I did yesterday.
7 days AF

Everyone be safe if you’re going out, stay cozy if you’re staying in! Happy New Year! 🎆6 -
I have to reminisce a little because I am so appreciative of the internet people on this thread! This thread has taught me so much. I'm kind of a newbie compared to some others but you all welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at ease. When I started in June I was afraid to go to bed without alcohol in the house, even if I wasnt going to drink it. June was when I first started counting alcohol and AF days and that month I had 9 out of 30 AF days. I was shocked. With the support of the LA thread, I am down to 1 alcohol day a month. I still am not ready to say I am 100% sober and not sure I even want to say that but I have cut way back. I have been faced with some tough stuff in 2022 and I dont know how (I think with this thread, my therapist, my little orange pill and my family and friends) I have managed to not spiral out of control with alcohol. Thanksgiving of 2021 I was too drunk to eat with family and was passed out on the couch by 2 pm. Yuck.
The reason I joined MFP (for the second time) was to lose weight. I lost 45 pounds this year! While I didnt reach my goal, I came close and I learned so many new things about my body and my health.
I have goals for 2023. They arent New Years Resolutions exactly but things I want to work on. I look forward to continuing drinking less alcohol with everyone here and to ride the ups and downs we all face!8 -
@dawnbgethealthy I am not getting out of my pj's all day today. Or maybe tomorrow either. Congrats on the 18 days!
I do love me some Detroit queens, I have seen Ms Aphrodite many times at drag queen bingo (such a quick wit!) I went to a vegan tapas restaurant close by last winter for a drag show and I must have seen 10 queens perform that night, it was great! I used to live a block away from a drag bar in my 20's and we were there 5 nights a week and oh my the drama and the wigs and the hormones! I would never replace it.4 -

Happy New Years Eve to everyone.
If you choose to drink, take it in moderation and consider having someone that has not been drinking drive you.
Your all a very important part of my life and care about your well being.
🎊Hip hip to 2023!!!🎉4 -
Made the drive to New Mexico today. I still am feeling very under the weather. I hope I start to feel better soon so I can enjoy my grandbabies.

@MissMay, sincere thank you once again for being our leader! I appreciate you and look forward to 2023 being a very successful year for all of us here. We work hard and deserve it.
I care about all of you as well. I wish for all of us to be good to ourselves in 2023 - in health, spirit, and happiness!7 -

12/31: Drinks (6) - Happy New Year all! Well, dang! I didn't practice a lot of discipline last night and I could feel my heart racing through the night. It was a rainy NYE in SE Virginia last night. We didn't stay out long but we did get in a walk on the beach during a break in the rain. I had three drinks more than planned and of course had some late night snacks. Today is a new day. Wishing us all a successful January! I think I'm going to stay AF all week.

December accountability for 2022~
25 AF days
6 A days
*10 drinks total for month
*My 2 drink goal limit per drink day was enforced and applied
*Also my no 2 drink days back to back held strong.
I had one A drink as we watched the fire works at the beach. Then I took another with me as we walked the beach with all the other folks. It was new and exciting and FRESH.
At a family brunch yesterday I told the hostess I would have something NA because I was
#1) driving back to our place even if it wA a short distance and did not want any A in my system.
#2) already planned for some A drinks at the beach knowing I would not be driving anywhere.
My request was excepted without questions or need for future explanation.
