I don’t know how some of you all run every day! Today made my third day in a row and my legs were so tired. Especially after I finished, showered for work and had to walk up a flight of stairs to exit the gym!.
I’ve never been an every day runner, but when I was doing 6 days a week during marathon training, I would sometimes end up with 8-9 days in a row because of my work schedule. I just got used to it. Early into the base building my legs were pretty tired but by the end it almost felt weird not to run. Even now I really don’t like to do 2 rest days in a row if I can avoid it. That seems to make my legs much stiffer than getting even a short run in.3 -

Rain run this morning!! With the warmer temps it provided very welcome relief. Easy miles today. And a massage. Good day all around.5 -
@tarun_yadavA that street view looks pretty cool, much more interesting than my neighborhood streets 🙂
@Teresa502 yeah, I never was able to run 2 days in a row for the first 9 years, but last year I decided to increase my weekly mileage, and 3 days a week wasn't going to cut it. So I gradually added 1 extra day, then about 6 months later I added another. At first the extra days were easy, short runs. Then they all just blended together. This year I added a 6th day, so now I only have Sunday off. If you asked me a year ago if I could run 6 days a week I would have fell on the ground laughing. But here we are 😁
7 treadmill miles today (oh yeah, adding treadmill miles really allows for extra days when outside running isn't doable)

Morning all.
Got in a 10K today!
Out drinking with the boys tonight 🍻🍺! Three nights in a row! Before I go down like a submarine again and live like a monk!8 -
Got 7 miles in this morning. It was a slow easy recovery run that was truly easy! Had a come-to-Jesus moment at the beginning of the run and realized I shouldn't be fighting the slow pace, I should just embrace it and relax. After all, that is what a recovery run should be. And I FINALLY did it after all these years 😁

@Scott6255 well done on the 7! ... And you'll easily nail your monthly target 💪2 -

This is kinda how it worked for me too. Originally 3 days a week (c25k), then added a 4th for my first HM. The fitness improvement was obvious with that extra day so went up to 5 for my next training cycle and stayed there until marathon training. 6 days is tough to fit into my life year round. 5 is a training happy place for me but I would consider going back to 6 for a little while if I was training for something specific. Every day I have added has made a noticeable difference in my fitness without dramatically increasing the mileage I am running day to day. Those extra days add up to a lot of extra miles every week.4 -
Thanks for all the input on running back-to-back-to-back days (and a few more backs for some of you). I think my calorie restrictions are playing a role in the amount of energy available for running also. The only race on my calendar is Peyton's Wild 'n Wacky 50k (I'm doing a 2-person relay so only 25K for me). It's more about endurance than speed so I know running on tired legs is good. I just need to keep moving forward!7
-
@Teresa502 That race sounds like a fun time! Back to backs are great for endurance. The Hanson's plans build on that idea - cumulative fatigue. Each individual run isn't really all that long but because you are doing runs on tired legs, the long runs are simulating the last miles of your race, not the first miles.3
-
@Scott6255 Great job on keeping it slow! I also always want to fight again running at recovery pace and usually swap a planned recovery run for a day off, so I don’t have to run what feels like is toooooooo slow for me. But it does feel really good to do one every now and then.
Yesterday, I did a very slow recovery run and today I felt great and thankfully full of energy again for some 4x4minute intervals. The weather was perfect for running at 7C (44.6F). Yes, it was cool, but no more need for lots of layers and gloves.
All and all, I completed 10.3k.
This brings my February total to 187.8/200k.6 -
I really appreciate how dedicated many of you are, and quiet serious about running.
Just to throw it out there, I want to break 4:00 hours in a marathon after I turn 60 later this year.
A long ways to go...one foot in front of the other.7 -
@chris_in_cal that is a great goal to work towards! I had a sub 4 hour goal for my first marathon (at age 57). I missed it by 7 minutes. Then when I turned 60 (last December) I tried again and hit 3:52 (Garmin says 3:49:59...but I'm not bitter 😡). So it is very doable!!! It's a long journey, but it is doable!!!7
-
. The weather was perfect for running at 7C (44.6F).
Perfection 😍
@Scott6255 @laurz9191 Re: recovery runs. This past year I embraced the recovery run, really slowed down, and I think it helped me so much. I'm running more miles but I'm generally less tired. My legs tolerate the mileage better. And workout days are hard but not a struggle since I actually recovered. I resisted it for so long because it felt counterintuitive to get faster by slowing down. But, I'm on board now. I feel like my fitness is better and it's just more enjoyable!!6 -

I recall that a couple of years ago, I went whacky and ran every day from the end of December to the beginning of April. You do get used to it, and I still feel tight if I end up not running 2 days in a row.8 -
Checking in! It's so nice to see so many familiar names! Actually almost all are familiar. I don't check in enough... Life is busy with work and two teenagers and a malamute and training. I am hoping to PR this year in the 5k and 10k = we shall see. Firstly, I am trying to stay healthy so I can keep my volume up. I think the last time I was here, I may have been prepping for the Leadville 50 but I'm not sure. I guess that's been a long time! I was doing a lot of ultras and then found a lot of love for shorter, faster distances. Still chipping away at my times. I've had to work really hard to love the process and not get too attached to results. Also, to catch injuries and would-be injuries early, so I have less big injuries. Anyway, for now I will try to catch up on posts! Just wanted to say hi to everyone.10

Hey @Camaramandy648 😊 great to see you back! It's been awhile, but I see you most every day on Strava, so I know you've been busy, not to mention keeping up with your kids, dog, and work! Great goals, I'm sure you will meet them!3
-
@Scott6255 and @martaindale et al - I love the insights you gave @Teresa502 about back-to-back runs and running on tired legs. I'm trying just to get my body used to running for longer periods each run but at some point I'll start adding days.

Good to see you @Camaramandy648 ! Glad all is well with you. Stop by more often!1

I didn't get a chance to post, or read everyone else's posts, last night. I did play 2 hours of tennis on Wednesday and walked 2 miles on the treadmill at 3.7 mph. Today, I was short on time, so went out for a driveway session. I walked a total of one mile for warm up and cool down and ran 1.25 miles. Just didn't have the time or energy for much more. Under the spoiler, I have more details about the last couple of days, if you are interested.I've had kind of a rough couple of days. Tuesday night, I had tummy issues and wound up sleeping on the couch so I would be closer to the bathroom. Finally slept longer than an hour at a time after 3:15. I'm pretty sure it was something that I ate. I kept taking my temperature to make sure I didn't have a fever. I felt okay, except for having to "go." I got up on Wednesday around 7:30 and felt okay, except for being tired. I had told a group of ladies that I would play tennis with them at 10, so got ready and did that. It was pretty hot at 70F (21.1C) and sunny. We played for 2 hours and I traversed 1.40 miles. I was home for an hour - time to take a shower and eat a bite, then picked up mom and took her to a follow-up doctor's appointment for her BP and we ran some errands, including purchasing her a new to her (used) cook stove since hers tore up on Tues morning. Had 30 min at home to put stuff up and eat, then picked mom up for Wed night church. When I got home, I was really, really tired, and soooo tempted to not do a walk to continue my streak. But, I know if I didn't, I'd hate myself this morning. So, at 8 pm, I went down and walked 2 miles on the treadmill at 3.7 mph. It was late when I went to bed last night and just couldn't get to sleep. I got up this morning and went to worked at daycare from 9 - 2. I am trying to get a QIT set up for my cousin, Medicaid has finally said he needs one or will get kicked out of the program, so I made some phone calls from the parking lot and went to the bank to ask some questions before heading home tonight. I was exhausted and hadn't had a chance to eat or drink anything since 8:30 this morning. I had a spoon of peanut butter and sat on the couch to let it settle a little before going out to do my exercise. I was falling asleep! I made myself get up at 4:30 and went out for some driveway laps. Since I need to get to bed earlier tonight - I have my CT scan in the morning for the 2 year check of my aneurysm surgery, I decided to walk one mile and run 15 ish minutes. The run was 16:41 min and 1.25 miles. Avg pace was 13:21 mph, which isn't bad for the driveway laps when I'm not really pushing it. Avg HR was 137 and max 151 bpm. Sorry for the second long post in a week.
Now, I'm going to try to catch up with everyone. I may not comment on them all, but will hug and like as appropriate.3 -
@Laurz9191 It's great that you got out for a run while your 3 year old road his bike. The picture is really cute!
@eleanorhawkins Looking forward to seeing whether you race or train the race. I think you could totally podium and that always gets my competitive juices going too.
@tarun_yadavA Enjoy your night and be careful.
@Scott6255 Glad you were able to figure out how to enjoy the recovery runs!
That's a lofty goal @chris_in_cal , but you can totally do it. You seem to have a sensible plan moving ahead.
Glad to see you back @Camaramandy648 ! I was thinking about you a couple of days ago and wondering how you were doing. I have no doubt you can do anything you set your mind to.

I got out between storms and did my run today. I'm new on this thread, so perhaps next month I'll get on the 'goal for the month' train. Right now, I'm just posting when I run.
We are having San Diego's first winter weather advisor in almost 50 years. Snow? Maybe.8 -
February Goal: 90 Miles
2/3: 5.27 miles
2/4: 5.26 miles
2/5: 13.15 miles
2/6: 5.02 miles
2/9: 5.52 miles
2/10: 6.02 miles
2/12: 10.10 miles
2/13: 5.51 miles
2/15: 6.02 miles
2/16: 5.12 miles
2/19: 10.26 miles
2/20: 5.51 miles
2/21: 6.02 miles
2/23: 6.02 miles
94.8/90 miles completed for February
I ran 6 miles this morning. The weather was pretty nice but a little cooler than I expected. The weather app said 57°F feels like 54°. I wore shorts and a t-shirt. I kind of wished that I had worn my sleeves. It was colder when I got home than it had been at the start. But I felt really good, like I could run forever.
I guess I should have st my goal at 100 miles this month. I set it low because it is a short month.
I'm 37 posts behind, so I am going to post this and then go back and catch up on the thread.

@spl8 don't be in too much of a hurry to add extra days, rest days are when all the magic happens as our bodies recover from the effort and grow back stronger. Too much too soon is a very common cause of injury!
@chris_in_cal don't feel you have to set mileage goals. This group is awesome and inspiring but sometimes can get us overexcited. A goal of 'stay consistent' works for some. Or in my case in recent months, 'do the damn strength training' lol.
@Camaramandy648 hey, nice to see you!6 -
Morning all.
Struggled. Got in 4.
And for those wondering... Yes this was consumed at the end of the night!
And no. There were not 21 in there (22?). I should be so lucky! Ha!
And out with a different set of friends tonight!7 -
@chris_in_cal You are doing great. I heard about that winter advisory. Crazy. When I lived in San Bernardina, back in 1984-1986, I think, they had snow for the first time in many, many years. And, it was before E. TN got any snow, which was crazy.
@kgirlhart It's great when you get going and feel like you could run forever.
At least you don't let yourself take the day off just because you went out with friends the night before @tarun_yadavA . I haven't had a McNugget in ages. Hope they were good.

Hi! It’s been so long!!!! Oh, strava 😂 I’ve been trying to come up with better titles for my runs 😂 “morning run, lunch run,” are so boring!
Yes, kids, dog, work, training, etc.!
Both kids are teenagers, now! It’s unbelievable! As they get older, I am more and more grateful for the kind of people they are becoming, and SO AMAZED that they are nothing like I was at their ages (thankfully). I was chatting with my son yesterday about how it’s so nice when parents raise people they actually like because that means that hopefully we’ll stay close and when they’re both adults, although I will still be their mom, we can also transition to some kind of “friends” relationship. I don’t know how all that works, as I have never had a 14 and almost 17 year old before, but I am hopeful.
My job is great and I use the time in the office to ice my legs lol. And work. But also ice hahaha
The dog! We just got him groomed and he is so fancy now!
I hope you are doing well!!! Nice to be back in the community. :-)5 -

February goal: 50 k
Started out partly cloudy, low 30s F, with a few snowflakes dancing on the gusty northwest wind. Ended up with both the ground and me covered in snow. Yesterday morning we saw an earthworm; yesterday afternoon I worked on the raised beds in a short sleeved shirt; and snow this morning. Heard a killdeer, but it probably needs to head back south in a hurry. I don't mind March's weather in February, as long as we don't get February's weather in March.
Good to see you back, @Camaramandy648 !!!5
