LESS Alcohol ~ FEBRUARY 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

16 out of 25 days wine free. I have a shot of whiskey every night before dinner and have cut down from a full bottle of wine to half a bottle when I do indulge. Doing it for better sleep quality, health, and weight loss.
I fall asleep faster after wine but do not stay asleep, waking up often and having about an hour of restless tossing to fall asleep again between 2 and 3 am.
11 lbs down since Jan 01 this year. I'll take it.10 -
2/25: Drinks (3) - Well the train went off the tracks on Saturday. Not wanting to be the fuddy-dud-controller-of-everything-we-eat-and-do, I went with DH's Saturday activity choices, which were fun of course. I gave up on trying to track. We headed to a local brewery for wood fired pizza and an Irish band (that didn't show up due to bad weather). I had a salad with the pizza and one IPA instead of two (they didn't have any NA offerings). On the way home DH wanted to check out a winery that we recently discovered. He also wanted to order dessert, which is rare for us. So we had a decadent chocolate-fudgy-brownie-cake desert there with a bottle of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. The alcohol made us both sleepy. We came home and were asleep on the couch in front of the TV by 8 PM! If I had a redo, I would have ordered one glass of wine instead of ordering a bottle. I was thinking we would take half of the bottle home but that didn't happen. I'm not going to kick myself, but just get back on track today. I did get on the Peloton for a 45-minute workout. The surgery foot is fitting better into my bike shoes.

@womona Moose is adorable!
@mfowler883 You certainly have an artistic eye. Love the patterns in the last photo!

@mfowler883 ...Bleary eyed, first hit of coldbrew coffee in the cup, checking out CNN to see if the world ended last night...and there's your Zabriskie Point photo, snow covered, on my TV screen. 😲

There are so many supportive conversations going on here and cute pics of pups and cats! Hope everyone who is experiencing illness can find some respite today.
@RubyRed427 your positives for February are truly worthy! Certainly, the negatives you posted l can relate to. I try to think about what I am moving towards so I can move on to the new day.
February stats:
AF - 16
A - 9
Goals & accountability: No more than 2 glasses per day
Had 2 glasses of a nice red wine last night with pasta. Ate slowly and savored both using mindfulness. Had that moment of maybe one more? But then I reminded myself of my health goals and was good with that.
A new month is arriving soon!
Planning AF for the rest of Feb. (3 nights left).
Be well.

Happy Sunday everyone!
It's a beautiful day here...currently 40 but the prediction is close to 50! That's pretty awesome for a winter day here near Chicago!! I must get outside.
New plan starting today. I've already tackled the exercise and now it's food and drink. So far on target.
I have projected my remaining February days to be AF.

I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My ongoing goal remains, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 17AF days for January (a long month)
I do this diary style to keep track, and I post the next morning
Saturday Feb 25 - AF - Still pretty out of it with the Covid and mostly staying in bed other than to shower and eat. I haven't put any real clothes on since Wednesday. Quite happy to have all of these nice cozy jammies. If I feel like having drinks I will have them. Mostly I just haven't been upright long enough to think about doing that.

Great total! 16 AF is wonderful!5 -
After 15 AF days I had an alcohol evening planned at the resort bar. Entered my shot of Markers Mark and 12 oz Bud Light in my diary early morning. Closed my diary before going to bed and I was below my allotted calorie count. "Patting myself on the back"
Back to AF days now. Wylers peach tea is my go to today.9 -
Hey everyone, I’m Amanda. I live in Michigan and it is freezing and gray here but at least it’s staying light out past 5 pm now. ☀️
I joined this lovely thread in the summer of 2022 and it has made a huge difference in my life! I’ve gone from being 25% AF to 98% AF.
The people here are kind and real and smart and fun! Welcome to all newcomers!
2/1-2/7: 6 out of 7 AF
2/8-2/14: 7 out of 7 AF
2/15-2/22: 7 out of 7 AF
2/21: AF
This week is flying by. I’m still employed. My boss sends me a text everyday asking how I am which is 🤮. I’m actually really tired (expected from the radiation) and sore and stiff. I *might* be carrying a little stress.
19 days AF ✨
2/22: AF
Last night I realized I may be faced with a social situation this weekend where everyone around me is drinking. I may feel pressure to drink. I will keep my “tools” handy and remind myself of the incapacitating hangover AND that I am in active cancer treatment right now and do not need to add alcohol to what my body is going through. But, it will be fun to see friends from college and eat good food and forget about life for awhile.
2/23: AF
So from what I can gather on here, it’s maybe better to make your own mocktail (unless beer) than buy one pre-made? There’s a huge liquor store right by me but I’ve never looked for AF options, I’m going to check it out today.
2/24: AF
22 days AF
Hoo boy (to quote @womona) am I getting my butt kicked by these radiation treatments! It’s like I need a nap every 4 hours! Obviously I don’t get one but I need one. I’m up early to leave to go across state to see my Bali friend (why can’t friends from far away bring the sunshine with them?) but I will definitely sleep in the car.
Hope everyone’s Saturday goes according to plan!
2/25: AF
So I was surrounded by a lot of alcohol the past 2 days; mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, beer, wine, Prosecco, cider, mulled wine, Irish Coffee and some sort of spritzer. At first I felt awkward because I was the ONLY adult not drinking but I quickly got over it. I had some strawberry kiwi juice with Sprite in a fancy glass and did fine. I got my highest sleep score Saturday night I’ve ever had, an 85. I slept for 10 hours, easily. The hosts own their own restaurant in Bali so we ate in for all meals and the food was delicious. My friend from Bali is really great at chocolate so there were brownies and truffles and bliss balls and just a ton of good stuff. We spent some time on the beaches of Lake Michigan (yes, in 36 degree weather) and saw quite a few fisherman. That’s dedication! It was really good to get away. I’m so very glad I didn’t drink. The friends I rode across the state with were hungover and miserable on the ride home.
Sunday scaries today.

February accountability: 12 days AF
Alcohol: 14 days (26 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days this month.
2/26 - 3 wine ; dinner at my sister’s home4 -
Sunday is my planned A day so yep, wine. Not to excess, just chilling. SiriusXM broke or something so I couldn't listen to DarkWave tonight, minor nuisance all told. Just put on my Cure playlist on spotify and put Dark City on the TV with no sound. Maybe my darkwave station on Pandora would have been more like it but that's okay.
Bentley had a pretty good day for the most part. Woke us up last night but let us sleep in. We did a little shopping and I found a shop with really decent dress shirts that won't require much tailoring, if any, so I grabbed a couple. It's funny because we've always talked trash about the outfits in their window. I spotted a leather that I might want to put on the short list.
The weather tonight is reminiscent of nights I used to walk around the city with my hoodrat friends, not too hot or too cold, breezy...I'm feeling okay tonight, sitting on the porch with a glass of wine and a Camel, enjoying the weather for a few before I head off to bed.
Catch y'all tomorrow.

Crazy dreams last night. I didn’t sleep as well as I did while away. I want that level of easy sleep back!
Only 2 days left of this month…I think everyone is doing the best they can and staying accountable!6 -
@MissMay will you be posting the March thread soon? I need to stay accountable. Despite being so good for the birthday party, yesterday was a different story. I just cannot have left over bottles of wine in my house. I need to stay the course for my health and for my weight loss goals. Spring is just around the corner!7

Yesterday hubs and I both had off together(date day)
We zipped over to the beach since it was a sunny 77° day. Stayed for two hours(that's all the beach time I need, even with sunscreen I got too red).
Anyhow, on the way home stopped for gasoline and went inside the station to poke around.
Oh my, those ice cold cans dripping with dew after me roasting in the sun were so beautiful. Yup bought a MangoRita.
Still enjoying the day once home and knowing I would not be driving I opened that MangoRita. It was awesome, to me mango flavor is the tops. But it did go straight to my head. Thank goodness I only bought one can, that we shared.
We were still discussing that lack of self respect as far as the bathing suit attire at the beach. Better than mall watching!
New link for March 2023 thread coming later.
HAPPY MONDAY8 -
@joans1976 Sounds like you had an awesome weekend! And great job avoiding the alcohol. Strawberry Kiwi juice and Sprite sounds like a winner!6

Hi - Robyn here in SE Virginia. My goal is 16+ AF days per month. I had 18 AF days last month. I'm drinking less for health and weight loss. I post the next morning.
2/26: AF - I have nothing exciting to report. I took a 30-minute Pilates class (it was hard!) and also worked on my Fitness Marshall moves . Dinner plans at home fell through so we went to a local dive where they have good seafood. The only NA beer option was O'Doul's, so I had a couple cranberry/club sodas.

My son sent a cool Kudzu pic. She decided to try out tight wire walking this weekend! That rail is probably 15 feet above the floor below.

Whew! It has taken me close to 45 minutes to catch up.....you folks have been busy the last few days.
After seeing all the wonderful puppy posts I think I will bring up the subject of maybe a fur baby when we get moved and settled. Right now I don't want to bring in a new family member while in the middle of packing and driving. Our fur-girl left us now almost 12 years ago. Does not seem that long. She was 16? and a pretty husky mix.
I don't have any camera stories, other than my foster daughter is still toting her camera's with her and makes money on the side doing shoots.
I have not been a free for 4 days. Each day it seemed DH and I made up an excuse to go out at lunch and of course my will power went out the window and had 2 beers each time. Yesterday though we decided to treat ourselves to crab legs, wine and a movie at home. It was wonderful, but then last night both of our sleeping wasn't worth a flip. No hangover but the nasty sleeping sweats uggggg.
So we both decided this am when we were up by 5am and a crappy night of not really sleeping we can do without for some time.....so win win for me.
Cant wait for March. That is my month to finish our packing/organizing and plan to hit the road the first part of April.
Now my skillet meals, well I have experimenting I think I can pull them off. We just need to plan small trips to local grocery stores to pick up the protein of choice and fresh veggies. Very doable.
7 -
@lmlmrn tell me more about these skillet meals? I'm always looking for new ideas for healthy meals.
@rockinrobyn672 Kudzu says it's a cat thing, most humans wouldn't understand. I had some custom guitar parts made by a guy in Istanbul, his cat fell 9 stories and only broke his legs.

Sunday Feb 26 - 1 drink (2 - 1/2 drinks). I don't think that I have ever had just one drink before, but my world is pretty upside down with this Covid. This morning I have fallen down the rabbit hole of the dancing GIFS. Normally I wouldn't have time to sit at my computer, but standing up (or staying awake) is still proving to be a bit difficult. 4 days since testing positive, I definitely don't feel as bad as the first 2 days, but for sure couldn't go to work or anything, I don't stay awake much more than an hour at a time. I will have to get my 16th AF day today or tomorrow.

Welp last post for Feb, already know how tomorrow will go so posting now. Did not finish strong, trying not to beat myself up too much but at the same time reminding myself that journeys are rarely linear (especially ones that challenge our ingrained habits like weight loss and cutting back on alcohol!) Need to celebrate the wins and acknowledge the slips. Here's to March y'all!
A days - 17 (one over the high end of my goal, 12-16)
AF days - 118 -

Kudzu (love the name!) photo is terrifying. Glad she's ok.
Happy Monday, all. Fun weekend and fun night with intern's parents. The stylish hotel bar had an old school lounge act that was not at all the scene I remember it being but we all had fun. Did not stick to plan. (What's new?) 6 drinks for the weekend/week. Also, eating slightly over maintenance the past 2 weeks. Nothing out of the ordinary, but more of the ordinary than I need to maintain.4 -

Agree! Also, and typical me, I realized later that it's "tightrope" and "not tight" wire.
