Morning all, well after seeing the Dr yesterday, a few things I have to do. I have to exercise more for my bones (weight bearing) so looking back into my bands I have. AND I have to eat less carbs...LOL that will be the hardest. But you know, I still am walking, breathing, and sitting with a cover over me so I am warm. LOL
@trooworld I get it we aren't used to the cold. I lived in it for years and when people ask me if I want to ever move...the answer is a BIG NO. I don't want to drive in snow, dress for snow, look at snow..LOL. I say your mindset says start tomorrow, but your coach would tell you to start today tracking..LOL. I hope you get caught up quicker than you think it will take you.

@gemwolf110 Happy Belated Valentines to you.
@Tamevv I hear you on the strength training calories. I used to love to lift weights. Then I got a Fitbit in 2012 and saw that I didn't burn as many calories. So I stopped and did only cardio. Then later I've decided that more muscle mass on my body will burn more calories while I'm at rest. Weight training will strengthen my bones as I age. Plus 5 lbs of muscle on my body takes up less space than 5 lbs of fat. So I ignore the calorie burn plus how much lower my heart rate is. It's good for my body. I did some cardio dance plus a YouTube videos to 70s music, some weights for chest/back/shoulder and then some stretching. That was on Tuesday. Yesterday I did my treadmill hill/sprint program.
@trooworld Welcome back we missed you. Sorry hubby is sick.
@cbabie What fruits could you grab as easy as you grab a bowl of cereal? I know easy is what you are looking for. Which ones do you like? Or how about a piece of fruit and string cheese? I can eat the same foods too. They just aren't the healthy ones I need for my body. lol I could have a bag of popcorn every day for lunch. But.....
So think of doing what you heard the dr say in little spurts. You have to exercise more. If you did zero min yesterday then 5 min today would be more. You have to eat less carbs. If you ate 200 carbs yesterday then eating 190 carbs would be less. Our minds think of big jumps when we are told to do these things. Just do better than you did the day before to get to where the numbers be it on the scale or lab tests start going in the right direction. Sounds like you have sick ones at home too.
So for a little mindset shift @cbabie Look at how those phrases in bold are worded. Your words. Actually you don't have to do any of those things but the consequences won't be good for you nor your family. So how about telling yourself I want to exercise more. I want to eat less carbs.

Hi all... @cbabie you would not like our weather today! We were supposed to maybe miss the snow, but instead we have at least 4" and it is still coming down, lol. Good day for staying inside, but going to make chili & missing some ingredients. Oh well, improvise, I have the basics.
@trooworld Glad you are back home & back to normal routine. That always feels good to me. Sorry your dh is sick, hope it isn't Covid. My dd has been sick, the last Dr said sinus & strep throat. Still sick so went again and this time different Dr was sure it was the new strain of Covid. But the PCR test said no, so evidently just bronchitis. Hope your dh feels better quickly & you don't get sick.
@cbabie It does sound like you have sickness in your house, hope you stay well. I agree with slightedge, just try to do better than yesterday and work from there. Glad you are getting all your checkups done, they are important at our age, and easy to put off.
@Tamevv I have started some senior exercises that use body weight & dumbbells. I am kinda embarrassed how light of weights I am using, but gotta start somewhere. I switch between 2 sizes, somethings I can use a little heavier weight. I am older than you, so playing a little catchup, lol. Be glad you are starting now & you won't have to. It is so important for our health. Good job tracking!!
@senoritafloridita Sorry you were having a tough time, Nov & Dec were not good for me either, and I haven't been sick, lol. Slowly getting back with it & trying to take off the 6# I gained. Hope you and ds feel lots better soon.
@theslightedgeforever Good advice in your last posts. Are you getting snow? Maybe coming your way tomorrow, lol. It has been snowing ever since I got up. I am curious about your new food labels. That sounds like something I would like do, I like the idea of the different color foods, some of my books go along that line. How will you post something you make that is comprised of different things..break it down according to the colors? I think it would really show your healthy vs unhealthy foods. Of course, my dark chocolate would go under healthy...
I have been doing pretty well with exercise, trying to make my treadmill walk a nonnegotiable, even if not so long, other than Sunday. It is rest day, unless I decide to do a walk. I do 30 minutes in morning at Cardio speed, and if I don't have my 10,000 steps by later afternoon, I have been doing a slower walk while reading or watching tv. I am also trying to get consistent with the senior exercises, right now doing strength, core, or yoga, depending on what I have done the last time. It helps that I am retired and have lots of time to do it. My eating has also been a little more on point, too. Tracking is not a problem for me, I have done it so long, it is just habit. Staying within my calories is where I have work to do.
Hope everyone has a great week.0 -
I’m not doing well emotionally 😢. Head is barely above water. Trying to contain eating but control comes and goes. Sorry to be a downer, but feeling lonely and isolated and you guys kind of feel like friends 😊3

Morning all, it's still cold here and I am ready for warm. LOL. I can handle being outdoors more when it's warm..my baby girl can go out in just a short or sleeveless dress if I let her..she kills me...(she won't be a princess if she has to wear a coat or boots).
. I tracked yesterday, that's always a win for me. I learned from my Chiropractor I was doing my back exercises wrong. He tried to decompress my back and I screamed out a little and cried it hurt so much..so yes I have to do me..(when I can) baby boy is just been plain fussy and he hurts my back to pick him up..so sometimes I just sit and pray he will fall asleep and no one will wake him up ..LOL
@theslightedgeforever you know I have all kinds of frozen fruit in the house..I take it out in the morning, but just never make myself eat it. I just love carbs...so I have to have a mind shift. Now I can eat strawberries with no sugar..surprisingly since we were raised to put sugar or salt on all of our fruit. LOL
@trooworld You will get back to regular tracking and your routine..once we get out of sync we just have to turn the wheel a little and we go back on course. Sometimes I wish I was alone in my house. LOL. Yes we have become friends who have never Physically met. You know that's how my grandson got his wife. They were gamers online for years and one day they met and now he lives in Alaska...yes where it SNOWS. LOL
@Tamevv I am sorry you are struggling. We have all been there and probably will sometime again. That's why we come here too. I pray you get about just treading water and move into olympic swimmer.
@RetiredAndLovingIt Yes we have to have test at our age...Not liking the time spent..my Dr said to me and laughed this week when he said it..I am making up for those years I wouldn't seek medical advice. He is funny and I like him so that is the good part because if I didn't I just wouldn't go. I did that when I had my second child..the dr was a real jerk in the delivery room and the nurses almost kicked him out. I never went back for my check up..Yes stupid, I know it didn't effect him...but maybe someday I will grow up. LOL I am glad you are setting goals and sticking to them..every step we take counts..I don't want to not be able to "take a step". so yes we need to keep moving.
cbabie0 -
@retiredandlovingit That's great you are using some dumbbells. I did biceps/triceps/legs today. I was just watching the Weather Channel. It was talking about for some of the states they will be getting warmer than usual temps for this time of year. No snow just cold weather. I'm ready for spring just not rain. Rainy weather makes me depressed. It's supposed to rain next week. :sigh: Hubby always says we need the rain for food. Yeah okay. I wish they made glasses so where it would have an always sunny day filter. So on rainy days, I look up and it's blue skies and pretty clouds. Colored foods: For my fajitas I made, I separated out the ingredients since that's how I post them anyway. It's really helping me in ways. The way Noom does it is how calorie dense is the item. I've been using the formula here if I don't know. https://noom.com/support/faqs/question-topics/food-logging/2016/08/think-food-color-wrong/ I separated my "red" foods into two categories. I have one category called Junk Eaten That will be processed foods like crackers, chips, etc. Popcorn is there.
Other guilty pleasures I have like chocolate, french fries, etc. That way they are all focused together. My red foods category is for things like full fat cheeses, olive oils, etc.

@Tamevv We are friends. At times like these just do what you can. This too shall pass. I always tell myself that and it does.
@trooworld Yaaay for getting back to tracking. I was doing so well with my water goals in January and here were are in February. But at least I'm tracking and exercising. I can already tell my Fridays are going to need some overhaul concerning green foods.
@cbabie Think of this....fruits are carbs.
So since you love carbs, there you go. Start with one. Can you add one to breakfast? How about putting a banana in that bowl of cereal. I don't eat sugar or salt on my fruits like we grew up. I thought of that on Wednesday when I was cutting up some cantaloupe. I could see mom adding salt. Everyone in this group has this face right now reading that.
Ok, I have to go do some stretching to close up my exercise ring. I did some dancing and weights this morning when I got up.0 -
Hi all quick check in to say hi. Been a crazy busy week with work and school. Have a great night!0
-
@trooworld My mom put salt on watermelon too. Maybe a midwest thing? Although I don't do it. Sorry about Daisy. I've eaten bok choy once. I wonder if I would like that soup. Although not with the spiciness. Maybe I could make some at home.
@gemwolf110 The good thing about checking in here during busy times is it brings awareness to us and reminds us of our health journey.
I had friends over for dinner last night and cooked all day long. Food all turned out good though. Still have leftovers. I'm taking the desserts over to a friend tomorrow morning to get them out of my house. She broke her foot and I said I'd bring breakfast and sweets.

@gemwolf110 HI!!! I hope you are enjoying both work and school. Update us when you can.

Hi all. We got some bad news about Daisy, she has fluid in her lungs and some other issues. We will do the next step to find out what is causing the fluid. I'm very upset and sad and hoping everything will be okay. I love that little dog!
It was really nice seeing my friend. We didn't walk for long, only 20 minutes. My knee started bothering me and I was thirsty. We went to a boba tea shop and I got Vietnamese iced coffee. She got this strawberry milk tea that was so delicious, it tasted like an elevated Nestle Quik strawberry milk. Then we went to lunch at a busy restaurant. My Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup was really good but I preferred the beef in the restaurant in Tucson. The broth was good in both restaurants. We also had these chili onion crunch wonton dumplings that were so good. Today, I'm not doing too much.
Water yesterday: I had about 12 oz plain water yesterday! I had a lot of coffee.
My phrase for the year: "Every choice is another chance to change my health for the better."
Oh no! Will be keeping Daisy and you in my thoughts and prayers!

Hi all, just saying hi 👋. Busy busy, trying to make good choices - actually just trying to consciously MAKE choices and not just bounder through it. Still flat but functioning pretty well. Am intentionally changing some of my dialogue which is making me more aware of things.
Ugh, I know that’s kind of cryptic, sorry, am off to bed. Will explore more sooner or later. Hope you’re all well.

Morning all, sorry been weird here. Everyone has been sick and just trying to stay healthy. Although today I had to take 1/2 Benadryl, if I take more than that I am KNOCKED out..LOL. Feeling better. Had more test ran yesterday and could not have ANY caffeine. I only have caffeine in the AM 2 -3 cups of coffee and thats it..I had a horrible headache all day. Now wait for the results..LOL. Well I maintained my weight, no loss no gain..I need a loss. It's time to get my body back..
@trooworld So sorry about Daisy. Hopefully its and easy fix with meds or rest. I love the picture of your walking path. Beautiful. It's cloudy here today..won't be doing much outside. yesterday, evereyone stated on our back patio, watching movies, jumping on the trampoline, etc..enjoying the weather. I am working on staying hydrated today.
@theslightedgeforever Yes I figured out closing the circle..I don't think I have ever done that..MY goals are not realistic at this point. So time to change them. I don't like to cook all day..always make me feel awful when no one eats. I have picky eaters here.
@Tamevv Glad to hear from you, changing dialog is good, I am working on that too...I kept hearing myself say when I would pick up the baby (who is a solid rock). you're killing me...I said to myself what an awful thing to say...I started saying you make me smile...LOL

Morning: I was just out of sorts yesterday. I started with good intentions, but that went by the wayside. I didn't track, but I am going to go back and track..most times it's easy because I eat the same things over and over. I didn't walk and I should have. I am so ready for real spring...not this 75 one day and 55 the next...LOL
@trooworld No I didn't put in the work that I should have this past week. My energy was all put into others. Today the wind and rain hit..we have a swamp cooler and with that we have the "flaps" as I call them and some don't lock down like they should...woke me up at 4:30 this morning...my baby girl too..so I expect her to fall asleep sometime but I won't get that luxury. My goal is not to eat to stay awake....yea on the water and I am with you on the movement part. I seemingly never meet my goals on that anymore...So I think today i am going to put it just about 500 steps of what I have been doing and see if I can meet that goal..

Hi everyone,
I’m up and exercised. Been doing more strength this week and feeling it in my muscles which is good, but not burning so many calories which is bad. Of course the eating everything in sight is not helping either 😞. Feeling a bit better in my head today though. Parents arrive for the weekend today so I have to at least seem put together so they don’t worry.
@cbabie I like your reframe which was days ago now, but about when you pick the baby up. My reframe is that I have been consciously removing the words “have to” from my dialogue and using either I “want to” or in”choose” to. This has two functions - it means I have to stop blaming other people for my feeling overwhelmed, amd it makes me realise and prioritise and appreciate the things in my life. There are things I don’t want to do but I’m choosing to because the consequence if I don’t is even less desirable, and the reframe makes me pause to notice that, and puts me back in control. It’s helping I think 😁
@trooworld I’m struggling with water too. Bought a squirt bottle thing yesterday because I’m hoping it will be quicker and easier to just take sips all day long when I’m on the go. Feels like clutching at straws but will see if it helps.
Oh I haven’t read far enough back to see what has happened with Daisy - hope she’s okay!! I’ll go back after posting this..
And hope the dentist went okay - on the plus side I’m guessing you won’t be eating after it for comfort 🤣0 -
I'm here. I finished my first week of my new meal labels. It's been very helpful. Switching from carbs to calories has been a bit of a struggle because alot of my eating habits are around eating things like cheese and meats. They do not fit into my green foods category at all. In the past I could have a whole meal of chicken strips and nothing else and be satisfied. Do chicken strips have alot of vitamins and minerals? No. So I have been using this past week as a baseline. Making notes to see what I can change but also how to keep some of my favorite foods in. So I've been looking at my red foods list at the end of the day and ask how can I tweak this. For instance Fridays have always been Pancake Fridays since my kids were little. Well now pancakes seem to be a red food. So I figured out if I just eat one pancake and get myself a bowl of bran flakes with skim milk, I made breakfast a 60% green food breakfast instead of a 100% red food breakfast and saved me 100 cals. So that's what I'm doing right now is looking for ways to "Eat This Not That" as the book says.
I finally hooked up my Apple Fitness+ and have done 2 days of workouts with them. I got 3 free months with my new watch. Still trying to figure it all out.

Morning all, (well all that is here) LOL. I went to the Chiro yesterday and he is concerned about the amount of pain I am still feeling..however, if you were lifting a 20lb lug all day...LOL. I did track and I was for sure over my calories and everything...but again I get up and say today I will make better choices.
@trooworld hope the teeth appt is quick and painless...my middle child just had all teeth extracted and we are in the second week and some things are going back to normal...so I pray yours in done an over and you get to enjoy good food quickly.
@Tamevv I am reading 2 books on mindset..I hope I learn something from each of them. I always heard my whole life growing up...the apple doesn't fall from the tree and it never meant anything good...even though my mom believed mind over matter...but the genes just couldn't be helped. I am trying to say maybe that is true for some things, but not all things.
Cbabie0 -
@cbabie Let's think about that thought "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"....I'm about as far away from that tree as possible. Don't you think? So I think that would be an assumption and not a fact. As rules were meant to be broken, molds were meant to be broken.
Have you made better choices today?
@trooworld I am getting used to my new watch. Still trying to figure out the shortcut to the timer. I used that on my Fitbit a lot. Today my vO2 Max level showed up as LOW which is the worst level I I can get. I thought at least below average. I wonder how accurate these watches are. As data, I will just think of it as data and try and improve to the next level up. So I've been looking online for plans to increase that number. I know I have problems with my lungs so I'll work hard on that. Plus my blood oxygen levels have been low on some nights while I sleep. I'm going to get about 3 months of data and then show it to my cardiologist and see what he thinks about this. That gives me 3 months to lose weight and exercise and get those numbers up. How exciting to meet a cousin you haven't met before. I met a great uncle online and then he got me interested in Ancestry.
Yesterday:
1167/1552 cals
27/35% green foods
rest day exercise

Hope everyone is making good choices today
Yesterday:
1669/1660 cals
16/35% green foods
20 min walk

Hi @theslightedgeforever 👋
I’m on the silly elliptical as I type. Begrudgingly. (Not the typing - the exercising). Sleep is poor, water is low, food is bad, but I’m still exercising and today is another chance to turn a corner. I know I’ve said it before but if I can get through Friday this week (for work stress) and Tuesday next week (for visitor shenanigans), theoretically I should have no more excuses. I really want to take some time to plan meals this week. That is my goal for today. And water 😊0 -
Morning @trooworld - I didn’t get to meal planning but water was pretty good although I didn’t track it. Food was also pretty good. Will make an effort to track today. Am about to do a step/strength session. It’s awesome that you got to meet the extended family (and even better that you liked them 😉). Really happy for you 😁0
-
Morning all, Sorry I have had life and Dr appts. breaks my routine..LOL. I just asked baby girl, what are you going to eat for breakfast? It's important..today she says childrens bread. I said what is that? Well turns out it's "Garlic Texas Toast'. LOL. I wish I were still a kid.LOL. I am overwhelmed with what I need to do for my health, but one thing at a time.. I know this and moving "has" to be on the top of that list.
@trooworld I really never cared about meeitng my relatives...my sister yes she does. LOL. I am glad you had a good time. Hope the meds worked for Daisy.
@tamevv. hang in there. you are still putting the effort and it shows.
@theslightedgeforever Now I know what gene stayed in this family..rules were meant to be broken? LOL yes I wonder about the data, but you know data is data..so you are using it to your advantage and that is a good thing. Someday I will be disciplined like my little sister. LOL
cbabie0 -
Afternoon, well I have felt terrible all day. I think its the medicine the Dr put me on. I will give it a couple of days and then call to see if maybe I can take it at night and not in the AM. Otherwise all is the same here. Well it's cold (see your breath cold) here and raining..UGH.
@trooworld so sorry you found more things with Daisy. I feel that way with all the Dr appts I have been having..LOL Well I have to agree with you on the recipies..maybe that is why I don't track when I have something new.. LOL. Sitting here watching Shrek for the 4th time this week...and it's only Wed..
cbabie0 -
@cbabie Oh my gosh, baby girl is hilarious! LOL Moving is at the top of my list, too. I know what I need to do, I just need to DO IT. Taking one step at a time is the way to go. Yeah, I know some people just don't care about meeting relatives and that's okay. One of those people that don't care to meet me is my half-sister on my biological father's side. I messaged her on Facebook on Sunday and haven't heard back from her. That's fine, I've got my cousins and it's her loss!

Hi all. I took Daisy to the vet last night and he did x-rays and said that the medication is working and there is a lot less fluid in her lungs. But that revealed a couple of problems: she has a mildly collapsed trachea and one of her ventricles is enlarged. We need to go to the specialist and get an echocardiogram done on her to see what is causing the fluid before we address the other problems. I'm sad and worried.
On the health front, I drank over double the amount of water as the day before. I need to start tracking again. I don't know why I am resisting it. Actually, I do: because all of the food I eat is recipes and it's a pain to put recipes in my tracker. But I need to get over that and DO IT.
Water yesterday: 60 oz
My phrase for the year: "Every choice is another chance to change my health for the better."
Sorry to hear about Daisy. Hopefully they find out what’s going on. Sending hugs and prayers.0 -
Afternoon all, Well I didn't do well emotionally yesterday or this morning. However, since I am older I can't stay in bed depressed too long...I went to the Chiropractor today and told him how I was feeling and we discussed how to move forward to my healing. I like this guy and feel God put him in my life. I am trying each day to do it better than the day before. I am still working on my exercise and I am not exercising..LOL My back has hurt so bad it hurts to walk...but I will try to do more today.
@trooworld I am sorry you are depressed about Daisy. I am not an animal lover, but I know you and many others are. They are a companion who doesn't talk back..LOL. Seriously Hopefully this is just minor things that happen along the way and she will be a great companion for a very long time for you. I hear baby boy crying..I think I am just going to ignore. LOL. You made me laugh about the dinner being a new recipe so you didn't track..I am so boring with food, one of my grand daughters told me she was going to get me some new recipes.. GOOD LUCK I tell her..
. You and my sister like to look up on the internet and yes we should not, but I can hear her say forewarned is forearmed.

Cbabie0 -
Morning all, I am trying today to do the things I know I should. Walk even if it's 15 min..track and drink lots of water. I have to keep my body moving. I got new glasses and I can see better, but I feel it makes my wrinkles stand out more..LOL. Have to work on that. I might even be able to cross stitch again.

@trooworld Glad this time I am able to be here with you and not leave you by yourself...You see that's one thing( there is more) but you should be proud that you are consistent with checking in. We all have our strong points and you are consistent!!!! Sorry about the gain, but this too will be a thing of the past soon.
Cbabie0 -
Hello! I haven’t caught up but wanted to just say hi first before I get distracted. Weight is going up but I finally feel a little lighter emotionally so hopefully I can translate that into food choices.
Hope you are all well!! 👋
@cbabie and @trooworld thanks so much for you two keeping this board rolling along! Sorry to hear you are both struggling with things, let’s hope that we can all make a positive step or two this week. Today, mine was that I came home and made salad instead of eating ice cream ……but then had some gummy lollies after dinner 🤦♀️.0 -
This past week I've been fighting the virus my family had the past couple of weeks. Today I just can't seem to stay vertical. Then we had some out of town guests pop over last night. I haven't seen them in about 15 years. They were in the area and wanted to see us. That's about all my news. I had a hard time tracking yesterday but really didn't eat much. So you think it wouldn't be hard to track, right?
Hopefully I'll be back to my jovial self soon. 0 -
Morning all, I thought I posted yesterday.. Must have written it and didn't hit post. LOL. Wow, I got interrupted and not it's afternoon.LOL.
I am trying to figure out why I feel so yucky...hoping to come out of this soon.
@trooworld LOL I haven't heard the word jinx in a long time. I hope you are having a good day and meet your goals.
@theslightedgeforever Hope you feel better
@tamevv good to hear from you. I think we all got into a funk and are fighting our way BACK.
Cbabie0 -
@trooworld. Another crap one for me too 😔. Don’t even think I’m expecting anything better tomorrow - failing is the new norm. What’s it gonna take for me to shake this?
Am off to bed 😴0
