Aww, thanks guys! I have no idea how come I'm still able to run 5km despite being out for 4.5 months. But I'm ecstatic Mind you, my legs are SORE! today.9

Great running @martaindale . I hope you enjoyed the wedding.
Thanks @katharmonic and YEAH for being able to run and other regular activities! Sounds like you have a great plan in place and signing up for a race is great motivation. So glad you have healed quickly.
Great recovery run @kgirlhart .

@quilteryoyo – I think you would enjoy the Loop Lope and you have plenty of time to train for that distance. I’m undecided about running it this year. I have some friends who are but I will be out of the country on vacation the prior weekend, returning home late that Monday night, and then will work the rest of the week so I don’t know about heading out of town again a few days later. Vacations are exhausting!
@Polskagirl01 I could totally seeing @PastorVincent doing that and then circling back after he finished to run in with Kristie.
Great news @katharmonic! I’m sure your physically active lifestyle leading up to your surgery was a big factor in your favor. I remember you talking about the Corporate Challenge before - so glad you are back at it!

@quilteryoyo I forgot to mention the other day that I loved your pictures. They looked so beautiful and made me want to visit there as well!
@katharmonic I am glad you can get back to running and am sending lots of strong positive vibes your way!
@yirara Good job getting out there! I hope your legs recover quickly, so you can go again!
I did 14km today. I did think about running yesterday, but even though I wasn’t particularly sore after the bike race I could tell that my body as a whole was fatigued. Today’s run felt fine, but I am still a little bit in recovery mode.
I am not sure whether I should try to go after my monthly goal (I’ll have to run an average of about 12k on the days I have time to train or end a bit short for April). Ending short may be the smarter choice. I don’t want to overtrain when I should be starting to taper. I do have back to back races next weekend in the 5k and then 10k. The races are at the city track/park/lake that I train at sometimes, and my kids are all running in the kids races, so everyone will be here watching for that one, as long as the weather holds….
So far for April I have 130.8/175km.7 -
So ortho says I just have a bad bruise behind my knee cap; the bones and ligaments are fine.
That is big. Keep moving, let your knee recover and we can breath a big sigh of relief it isn't worse.
Sounds like @tarun_yadavA is also dealing with a less than catastrophic knee issue.
You two come back bigger, better, and stronger!

General question for US residents... when you have a joint injury, do you see a primary physician first and get a referral or book time with a specialist? I have a bum ankle that isn't healing after three weeks so reckon I might have to go to a doc. Thanks
Hope everyone is having a good week! I can't run atm but am riding my bicycle!6 -

I go to an orthopedic clinic. We have one doctor in particular at our local practice who is a runner and all the local runners love him because he does his best to keep you moving. They also have walk in hours that are convenient when you can't wait to see a particular doctor. Sounds like you definitely need to get it checked out by a professional.1 -

I vote for not going after your monthly goal that you set here. It's more important for you to be healthy and not overtrain than to hurt yourself by reaching some magical number.

I agree with @Teresa502 , but it would depend on your insurance. Some require you to get a referral from your primary care doctor first.1 -
@Teresa502 Vacations are exhausting and I can see how you would be hesitant to sign up. If you change your mind, let me know. I'll let the group know if I do sign up for it. I want to do the Space Force 10 miler again, so not sure those two would be too close to each other or not.
Thanks @Laurz9191 . I think missing your monthly goal rather than over train is the smart choice. After all, the goal is just a number to shoot for to help keep you motivated. I think doing well on the races is great motivation. Sorry you have a bum ankle. A lot of that depends on what your insurance requires. Having said that, even though I don't have to have referrals to a lot of places, I will go see my primary care first. If he thinks I need a specialist, I trust him to tell me who he would see and it's not a shot in the dark. Great job riding when you can't run.
I did a treadmill run late morning, after researching assisted living facilities and making some phone calls. I walked a total of 1.0 mile for warm up and cool down and ran 2.25 miles in 30:31 min for an average pace of 13:34 min/mile. Today I ran the first 13:30 min without walking, 3 min each at 5.0, 4.5, 4.3, 4.2 mph and another 1:30 at 5.0 mph. I walked 1.5 min and then the rest of the run was 1 min each at 5.0, 4.5, 4.3, 4.2, 3.8 mph. I had wanted to keep my HR below 130, but was unsuccessful at that. Avg was 134 with a max of 148 bpm. At least I kept the average close.

Split my 7 miles up this evening between 2 runs. First was 3.4 with normal shoes. Then changed to the Kinvaras and did 3.6. Both felt about the same. Calves were tight and a little painful, but I am trying to ween myself off of the Naproxen. I got into the habit of taking it before every run (even tho I know that's not good). But just in the last couple days I've heard a few podcasts or news stories reiterating how bad it could be. So trying....

Thanks @Eleanorhawkins, @teresa502, @spl8, @katharmonic, @Martaindale.
@Eleanorhawkins congratulations on your race. I hate when a course is short. I would have done the same for the badge.
@katharmonic Hooray for getting out for your first post-op run. I am so glad you are healing so well.
Today I ran 5.26 miles. It was 60°F and drizzly. It was misty when I started out and it turned into a light drizzle and and then a light rain. It was kind of nice. I don't get many opportunities to run in rain. Usually when we get rain there are storms. But it wasn't windy or stormy and the rain was very light.

@katharmonic Yay for running!! So glad to hear you are healing well.Itadakimasu7 wrote: »General question for US residents... when you have a joint injury, do you see a primary physician first and get a referral or book time with a specialist?
I have a sports clinic I go to. It's a PT and a chiropractor who specialize in treating athletes. They were recommended to me by a triathlete friend of mine. They have been great and seem to know when to refer to a doc. If you know any athletes, it's worth asking them. Seems like everyone gets injured and there may be a go-to place near you.
@Scott6255 Resist the urge!! Do you use a foam roller? Percussion gun? A little targeted foam rolling does more for my tight calves than anything else. Are you thinking the calf tightness is shoe related or is this something you have had before?4 -

The Garmin Coach plan is upping the run times in this run/walk plan.

Thanks @martaindale. Yes I foam roll (at least) once a day for about 10 minutes, do calf strengthening exercises and stretches, and do have a massage gun (my son got for me for Christmas) I hardly ever remember to use that, so I should try harder on that front.
No it's not shoe related. I have had this the whole 11 years I have been running. The severeness fades in and out, but it is always there to some degree.4 -

Naproxen actually causes depression in me. I have a ton of it and for that reason I really hate taking it. My Dr / Pharmacy accidently put my last Rx on monthly refills which was funny because I did not need them and the Dr called because he was worried about damage to liver/kidneys if I was really using up the whole Rx each month. Hope you can find an alternative....5 -
@Scott6255 Great running. Good luck with weening yourself from Naproxen. I'm sure you can do it.
Sounds like a lovely run @kgirlhart .
You are progressing very well @chris_in_cal .

It was clear and 37F for this morning’s 5-mile run. I think I will run again in the morning and do some cross training on Friday. I have a 3.8-mile trail race on Saturday. The distance is short, but there are a ton of hills. Like @Lauraz with her bike race, I’m just hoping not to finish last.
@Scott6255 – Good point about the insurance. Glad you are ditching the Naproxen. Hang tough!

Had a beautiful 10.2km run this morning and wished I had taken my phone with me to take pictures. Everything is waking up and in bloom. Just beautiful. Still cold though at about 5C. My body still feels fatigued from the bike race, so just went for an easy pace. Tomorrow I may very we’ll do the same if I don’t yet feel my pep come back. I really don’t want to push it right now, as I am sure the bike race put some tension in parts/movements that my muscles and joints aren’t used to. So I just enjoyed the springtime scenery .
@Teresa502 I am sure you will do great! You run all the time! You are completely ready for that distance! But I do know the fear of feeling a bit uneasy about the competition .
@Scott6255 I hope weaning yourself off naproxen gets easier soon. I am sure it is for the best for your body, even if it isn’t easy initially to break the habit! You can do it!
So far for April I am 141/175km.7
