Morning all
Got in another 5 (09"56 pace).
@daria0919 glad I made you chuckle! 😊
On the whole Macro thing... Umm... Try to maintain a caloric deficit and protein grams. Calories - immediate: shift holiday weight, and then back to the pursuit of 175 lbs.
Protein - aim for 120g protein.
(80 kgs. ish! 😂 So aim for a 1 : 1.5 ratio of bodyweight in kgs to protein grams). Not too too fussed about carbs and fats provided I meet calories and protein goal.
Macro-wise... Probably sorts itself to something workable. 🤷 I think!
Challenge is protein in a vegetarian household. As you all know by now, ad nauseum, really only eat meat if I'm out (and drinking)... otherwise- Veggie most of the time. So about 35 (/120g) comes from Protein shakes.
Only so much you get from hummus-falafel and brown toast-ommelette etc etc7 -
@kbrown1527 I agree with what all the others have said- especially about allowing time for your body to get used to whatever tweak you are making in your diet.
I guess I follow more @martaindale ‘s approach. I adjust my diet with more/less intensive training and try to eat something with more protein after a run. I make my own energy bars that I eat in the morning before I go out. That way I’m never hungry or full on my morning runs and can concentrate on just existing in the run .
I was quite sore after my New Year’s run, so I took 2 days off and eased back into it yesterday with a 7.1km run.
Today I went on a different route, thinking it would be more dry with our current never-ending-rain-flooding weather we have had since before Christmas. It worked for most of the route until the complete path and shoulder became a 6 inch deep puddle for a good 400 meters. I trudged on, mostly concerned that my phone in my pocket might get wet from the splashing. And then, after reaching my turn around point, I trudged back through the deep puddle path. My feet may have been soaked but it was all-in-all a great 10.1km run and good fun.
So far 17.2km/200km for January.

Jan total: 21.3 miles
YTD: 21.3/1200 miles
1/1: 8 miles
1/3: 7.3 miles
1/4: 6 miles
Another cool and cloudy morning here. Saw lots of deer and 1 dog that I think broke loose from its yard. Luckily I think it was having a fun adventure being out and didn’t really mess with me, just ran past and gave me a low chuffy bark. I stopped in the road when I saw it and was so relieved when it went past. Looked to be a Doberman mix. Very Doberman looking but a bit bulkier than they usually are. Scared the crap out of me. O/w good run. I also ran into my neighbor and we made a plan to meet up for our run tomorrow morning. It will be good to catch up with her.
The plan today is to finish winterizing the house. We have some irrigation faucets scattered around the property that are fed from a well. We had one burst last year so we are taking some additional precautions this year. I’d rather not pay another $1k to repair something we barely use. And I might do a little landscaping management if the rain holds out.6 -
01.01 6°C 3.2km 27min 8:20/km 8 stride repeats
03.01 9°C 4.6km 40min 8:41/km slow
04.01 3°C 5.1km 43min 8:25/km slow-ish
12.94km/80.5km
This was somewhat better than yesterday. Still a lot of effort and not easy running as before Crimbo, but better.7 -
Thanks a lot for ur comments on my weight loss.
I got a 3.5 mile run yesterday evening and this evening my daughter wants me to go to gym with her so I’ll use the treadmill. Not been on one in years so this will be interesting & hopefully not like a scene in a comedy
02/01 3.52 miles
03/01 3.56 miles
Total 7.08/50 miles10 -
For those of you that have covid: don't run, don't even walk. Rest, the longer the better. New research published from Dutch researchers today that people with long covid basically wreck their mitochondria, and the more they try to to get over it by exercising, the worse it gets. And exercising while having covid increases the risk of long covid substantially. Thus slow down, sit at home, watch tv. You'll get your stamina back eventually.10

@tarun_yadavA You might be right . It’s generally more of a cars/traffic vs. potential falling trees/mud choice and I suppose I still prefer the later.4 -
02/01 3.52 miles
03/01 3.56 miles
04/01 3.50 miles
Total 10.58/50 miles
I survived the treadmill. The first 10 mins were shaky enough and then I found my stride. I was tempted to speed up for the last 10 min but said to myself Don’t push ur luck Marissa.10 -

I haven't posted for a couple of days, so not commenting on everyone's activities. But, I did like and hug as appropriate. You all are doing great.
@yirara Sorry you had such a tough runs. We all have them from time to time. I hope your next run is better.
Thanks for the info @elizury ! We aren't too far apart in age. I am 64. I think it is cool that you kept all the notebooks from your HS running. Weather in the 20's is a bit too cold for me here in E. TN. Where are you located?
That's a fantastic pace for your outdoor run when you weren't feeling the best @Scott6255 ! I hope you feel better.

8.00/85.00 mile goal
I didn't post yesterday because of time constraints and trying to get to bed "early." I had gone to bed early for me on Tuesday night, but could NOT go to sleep and only got about 3 hours sleep total, even with sleeping in later than I had intended. I did get up in time to do a 2 mile walk before taking mom to a couple of appointments she had and running some errands, and later going to church.
Last night, I went to bed about 11, an hour later than I had hoped, and got up at 4:30 so I could be at work at 6:30 this morning. According to Garmin, I got about 4.5 hours sleep. That would have been fine, had I slept good the night before, but by the time I got home from work, I was beat. So, I just walked one mile to keep my streak going. I have my fingers crossed that I sleep longer/better tonight. I have the same work schedule tomorrow....6:30-3:30.7 -
So in order to hit 2024 miles walking and running for Run the Year I calculate I need 169 per month. I set my running goal at 100 which means I would need to walk over 3 miles per day. Well that is NOT going to happen. I think I could do about 40 miles walking so I need to increase my running goal to 130 miles monthly. That's over 4 miles per day avg. hmmm. Well I did that last year. But I know I also want to focus on some speed work too. What to do. What to do. 😳🤪😬 I dunno. Just chewing the fat really. Last year I avg 129 miles per month but I also had some pretty low months and one awesome crazy month of 200 miles. The RTY team is going to be amazing. Everyone is on MFP but not here so I haven't changed the Chutzpah factor at all. That's where we set the goal for multiples of 2024 based on team make up. With 7 people I know we could at least do 4x.

Got my first run in for the new year this morning at 6:00am. 18 degrees and loved it! It’s all about the layers! My dog loved it too. Watching the sunrise in the quiet of the morning brings a feeling of new possibilities and hope. Feels good. Ran 3.5
@quilteryoyo live in the Chicagoland area and love the outdoors in the winter.
@daria0919 I also am a veggie lover. Fish once a week only. Lots of great vegetarian recipes on the internet if you like to cook.
@Mari33a have you ever seen the video by OK Go where their music is choreographed on Treadmills? Brilliant!5 -

January Goal: 125 miles
1/1: 3.26 miles
1/2: 6.02 miles
1/3: 6.26 miles
1/4: 6.10 miles
21.64/125 miles
I ran 6 miles this morning. Strava said there was light snow. There was no snow. But there was dense fog. I could barely see to the end of the block. It was pretty cold, at 38°F, but not as cold as it was on Tuesday, and not cold enough for snow. I was really glad I had the lamp to go with my noxgear vest. It was really kind of creepy running in the dark, foggy morning. And I probably would have stayed home if I hadn't had a good light.

@Laurz9191 - I would always choose trails (dirt, paved, whatever) over running on sidewalks or pavement. However, I would be really dubious running through 6" of puddle not because of getting wet, just the concern of what is in that water 😂
@yirara - Can you post a link to the Dutch study? I would be interested in reading it and @polskagirl01 might be interested too?
@mari33a - I am so happy you didn't go flying off the treadmill in the gym! I never liked running at the gym because it always feels so warm and airless.
@daria0919 - Hope you get your motivation back tomorrow and you can work around all the extra work you need to do to cover for your coworker. It is frustrating when something unexpected gets in the way of a planned run.
@elizury - there are a few of us here in our 60's and still running along. I didn't start running though until I was in my mid-50's. What kind of dog do you run with? Do you have to put anything on his/her paws when it is so cold out? I have a Vizsla and I am pretty sure he would be frozen at 18F, he gets cold when it is in the 50's here.
@quilteryoyo - hope you can get a good nights sleep tonight!
I got in my 4th workout in a row today (3 walks and a strength workout yesterday). As bad as I felt last week I have been feeling so much better this week. We find out tomorrow whether there are more treatments in my future or if I am done (hoping for done!). I am ready to move on to the next phase and have even started planning some walks to runs as soon as I am allowed. I have 7 miles so far for the month.

Here the part on long covid: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-44432-3
The rest, what seems to promote long covid was only said in an interview on tv. The research there is still on-going. I do wonder whether there are actual crossovers with chronic fatique syndrome and similar considering that exercising also makes it worse. Also, future treatment, should it be found might also be interested for people with inborn mitochondrial impairment (that might be me).4 -
Good morning everyone!! 😊
Got in 5.3Miles (at 09"50).
Thank God it's Friday... This 4day week back has been a shock to the system! So a nice weekend of lounging, watching TV and doing nothing (in my own home! and not my mother's!) is most welcome!9 -
Jan total: 25.8 miles
YTD: 25.8/1200 miles
1/1: 8 miles
1/3: 7.3 miles
1/4: 6 miles
1/5: 4.5 miles
Easy run with my neighbor this morning. I shouldn't say easy. It was supposed to be easy but ended upsetting PB on 3 different segments. Didn't feel crazy hard but I always run faster when I run with her. We chat quite a bit so I can still talk, unless we're on the uphill, but I don't notice how much faster I'm going.6 -
No run yesterday, not off to a great start with my 100mi goal.. it may have been a little ambitious considering weather and how dark it gets early on. Hopefully I can plan ahead better for the remainder of the month and actually check the weather forecast 😅
At 5.75/100 total so far and hopefully to at least get a few miles in between tonight and tomorrow morning before the snow storm hits.6 -

05.01 7°C 2.1km 17min 8:03/km fast
15.01km/80.5km
Kind of happy with run, but also not quite happy because just before Christmas I managed to run 3km at this pace and now just 2. But ok, lets see what next week will bring.6 -
Hey everyone! I, like @quilteryoyo also got a horrible night of sleep. But, I was feeling up for a nice long recovery run. I knew the path might be a bit flooded, but only two sections made me choose between getting muddy or getting wet (I chose the mud). I completed 9.2km. So far 26.5/200km for January.
@shanaber Fingers crossed you get good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@martaindale Good job with the speedy running!
@quilteryoyo I hope you have more energy today than you did yesterday!!!!

@shanaber hoping for good news... And you're done! 🤞🏽🙏🏽🤞🏽🙏🏽🤞🏽🙏🏽4

That's a lot of miles @SummerSkier . From last year, it looks like you could do it. I'm with you on trying to figure out how to work on distance and speed.
@elizury You did great. I have family that lives near Chicago. They used to live in DeKalb, but after my Uncle passed, they are in Elburn. Anywhere near you?
Hahaha Thanks @daria0919 .
Nice running @kgirlhart. I can imagine the headlamp was a little creepy in the fog too.
Thanks @shanaber . I am so glad to see that you are feeling so much better this week and fingers crossed that you are done with the treatments and can get on with recovery.
Great running @tarun_yadavA ! I hope you do enjoy your weekend.
Great run @martaindale . Congrats on the PRs and I do think chatting with a friend makes it easier than listening to your own thoughts and breathing.
@kbrown1527 I hope you were able to get a run in before the snow hit - even though my best run ever, that I recall, was in the snow. (Years ago.)
You are doing great @yirara . You'll get back to the 3K soon.
Thanks @Laurz9191 . You did a lot better than I on little sleep. I would have chosen the mud too.
Nice run @emptydog . I'm a bit behind for the month too. Good thing is that the month isn't that far along, so catching up is possible.....if you want to.2 -
Jan 1 - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
Jan 2 - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 2.00 miles - treadmill
Jan 3 - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
Jan 4 - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
Jan 5 - Walked 2.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
10.00/85.00 mile goal
I did sleep a little better last night, but still only 5.5 hours. I did feel better today, but once I got home, I was just really tired, so chose to do a 3.8 mph walk on the treadmill again. I hope to get in a run tomorrow. I'll be able to sleep in and run later in the morning....hopefully.
