Made it through the football game last night even though my team was a total disaster. Next planned drinks are on Saturday. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Growing up I was a fat kid, not lying.... like I was obese at only 12 years old, over 220 pounds.
I, me and myself controlled my food intake. It then took I,me and myself to decided at that young age of 12 to do SOMETHING about it. Which I did.
Yesterday I received news that a dear friend of mine knew she had cancer (not sure for how long, maybe at least 2 years)and kept it to herself. Well she died yesterday on her own terms.
She controlled her own life and death moment.
Made me think about how I first struggled managing food, then struggled managing alcohol. A lot to think about. Bless her soul for having the strength to pull off the unimaginable control of all.
❤🐾 to you CJ

Hi all! After a terrible start to the year (drinking every day the first week), I decided to try a late start dry January. So far so good. AF since 1/6. Been feeling great and think I can take this through the end of the month. I would really like to give up drinking completely, but honestly thinking about it in terms of forever is really intimidating. I think I will keep going as long as I can. I do have a boys golf trip in mid-feb that is already giving me anxiety.10

Out of curiosity - I looked back and realize that i didn't do dry January last year but I did start the Naked Mind 30 day challenge of no alcohol on 1/18. I made it for 13 days straight and then it tanked.
If I recall correctly (it's been a minute), Annie Grace takes a pretty experimental attitude towards the endeavor. There's a lot of reflection, so you're going to learn a lot about your thought patters and associations regardless of how much you abstain. The day I drank in the experiment was maybe a light bulb moment when I had a big realization. All that is to say, for anyone who hasn't tried it, I don't think you can "tank" the experiment unless you stop doing the daily reflections. @itladyee You have inspired me to go back and take a look at the notes I made from that time!
ETA: Condolences to you, @MissMay. It's hard losing a friend.4 -

@ahoy_m8
I meant it tanked for me personally.
I was doing the daily reflections but after a few days it was no longer resonating with me.
Then I got to the point where the approach was zero alcohol forever, how you couldn't just moderate and how alcohol is just poison....
I get it, we all do. But it was just a little over the top for me and everyone is different. LA is a better fit and more motivating for me.

Really want to get to the gym today, I’m dressed and ready to go. It’s been a 6-week break since I was doing fairly regular workouts. Also time to start strength training 2-3 x a week. Really what that means is to pick up and use the 3-5 lb weights on a regular basis and add in legs and core. Every little bit helps right?

Caved during a Sunday wild card game, which is a poor excuse. Felt a little like the holidays.

I can't remember who said it on this thread but, for me, too, abstinence is usually easier than moderation. I really need to work on moderation.
Everyone is doing amazing this month, it is extremely admirable & motivating!6 -
I’m really proud of how well I am doing this month. Four the last 4 days we have been snowed in, and I haven’t caved once! That is huge!

Didn’t make it to the gym after my dog’s veterinarian appointment for shots. But, I did take her to the park afterwards, set the timer on my cell phone for 30 minutes, and then jogged a bit in the drizzle. We were both happy about this!

These are all really good points. I do remember that now that you mention it.6 -

Even the scale is cooperating...but there's a part of me that wishes I only changed one thing (alcohol) so I could see what the real driver is....but for now...I'll just take the win!
@michieb125 ~ Every little bit does help and these 3 - 5 lbs weights make a difference. When I started back into the gym on Dec 9th, I started with very little weigh, if any. Now I'm feeling stronger and starting to increase my weight but only to a point of it being a slight challenge. Taking it slow!

I'm right with you. A bit ago, I started an experiment to allow other alcohol (mixed drinks) but no wine. I didn't get very far due to other circumstances but I may try that again when I decide to drink again.

Hi everyone! I love reading all of your stories, and am cheering you on!
On Monday I was craving wine for hours before the end of the day. I came home, cooked dinner and had my usual AF Fever tree grapefruit. I told myself if I was still craving wine I’d pour myself one glass. I was and so I did. That’s actually unusual because the AF drink cures my cravings 95% of the time.
Last night was book club, I had 1.5 drinks, and today killed off the last little bit in the remaining bottle. Amounted to a small glass. Not great, but I plan on AF tomorrow.
I’m skiing next week, and my ski pants are a bit too snug!!! I hope I can pick up something inexpensive before the trip, my ski outfit is relatively new! I hate the thought of getting new gear, but I’ve gone from size Small to Medium. I don’t relish the thought of being uncomfortable while trying to not fall on my butt skiing.
Good news is I’m on track to workout 3 times this week! Excited about that. It really is calories in vs. calories out for me. Hey, at least I had enough calories left over today for my little glass of wine!4 -
