Happy Saturday!
As my adult DD would say, “it’s been a week” for me! I had a lot of commitments and had to pivot a few times to attend to some urgent family needs. I had two planned AF days turn into having 1.5 glasses of Kendall Jackson low calorie/low alcohol wine two days in a row. In the distant past, it might have been 3-4 glasses of full strength when these things happen (negative coping mechanism). I feel grateful that temptation has diminished over several months of embracing LA and being mindful. Planned A day is today with some sparkling wine and king crab during the 49er/Green Bay game tonight!
Wishing everyone a great weekend whatever your plans.
Most of all, stay safe!

@ahoy_m8 I truly hope you have some special moments with your DD’s over the weekend. You have been faced with such a difficult challenge with the loss of this friend. Hugs to you!

@ScienceofTeaching thinking of you as you await medical news. So sorry you have to go through that stress.
@globalhiker sooooo happy for you! Those jeans are in sight! Plus you sound so free and full of joy!
@ahoy_m8 burst pipes are awful. One tiny pinhole can wreak so much havoc! Hugs!!!!
I am proud of myself/ snow day yesterday and I cleaned the entire house, and only had one glass of wine!!! I thought of pouring a second but realized I didn’t really want it!
Oh by the way- don’t ever gain weight if you have expensive sporting equipment. I had to buy new ski pants and new base layers in the height of the season. ka-ching!!! Ooof. Seriously I can’t believe how much long underwear costs! But at least I’ll be comfortable.5 -

I am thrilled at my progress - this is NOT normal. The scale is moving and that helps keep me dry. Do I want a glass of wine...absolutely. I looked hard and lovingly at a bottle of cabernet last night...but I said....later, we will celebrate🙂
When I do decide to have a glass, I feel like I will really enjoy it!
@Womona ~ enjoy your ski vacation. Resume LA when you're ready.
@globalhiker ~ congrats on the new decade. Nicely done!
@Scienceofteaching ~ Hoping you get good medical news. Praying for you! I agree, it's hard when you got "stuff" like that on your mind.

Went to a 4 year olds birthday party today at a pizza/game place. I managed to pass on the pizza, and they don’t serve wine. However, we went to dinner with family later and I decided one glass of wine was allowed. I had no desire to order a second, which I normally would at this particular restaurant, so I consider that a win. 2 glasses of wine in 20 days is not bad for an almost daily wine drinker! I have 3 social events next week that will most likely add to that wine total, but if I can remember to keep a limit on it I will be happy.
On a big plus… I had to try a second belt in my stash to find one with enough holes to keep my sagging pants up!8 -

I worked with the nutrition consultant at work to re-set my calories and macros this week because my weight kept going up and up. Turns out my activity level was set too high, and thus my allowed calorie intake was too high (and let’s face it, I consistently went over it) , so we switched me to “lightly active”.
So now I have less calories to play with. Lo and behold, I’ve been tracking and weighing my food religiously and the weight is falling off me. I still have room for a glass of wine, but I know even more weight would be lost without it.
Granted, I am very sensitive to salt and I had been eating leftover Chinese food for a few days before the switch. Also this week I hadn’t gone to out to dinner, another salt/calorie bomb for me. I also significantly upped my activity levels (cleaning the house and shoveling).
I’m sure I am losing mostly water weight, but it’s still nice to see. I’m sure I’ll be right back up when I’m PMSing! Grrr. So now I need to manage going to restaurants, where every delicious morsel has 3000 calories. That’s where all this may fall apart! Haha!
BTW “Lightly active” means up to 3 workouts per week and 8,000 steps or less. I have a desk job and even at my best, I’m not going to do more than 3 workouts per week, so that makes sense.
So, moral of the story is, make sure your settings are correct and that you actually weigh and track your food. Many of us are reducing alcohol to lose some weight. Reducing alcohol definitely will help with weight loss! At any rate, I know this is an LA sub so I appreciate you for indulging me. Just wanted to share a win!8 -
Enjoyed my beer tasting event last night but kept it reasonable. I ended up not being the designated driver which, in the past, meant I would have several beers. I kept it to two beers worth last night.

Thank you for the kind thoughts, everyone! My next appointment to try to figure out what's going on is in 2 weeks, so I have to keep myself from obsessing about it until then. It's very possible that the test results could be nothing bad, but it's hard to stop thinking about what ifs.
Have been AF for 7 days now, so haven't totally fallen off of the dry/damp January. Have a planned A day for this Friday, but plan to be AF until then.8 -
I have exchanged one bad for another one not quite so bad, but still... And yes, in moderation it's probably all fine. No alcohol for me this month has meant a plethora of chocolates and a cake and nothing in moderation. I need to find balance again.
I enjoy/appreciate reading y'all's posts, glad to be here, thank you.7 -
Checking in...I so appreciate those of you providing supportive comments! And if anyone wants to know, I did a "transition month" of chocolates while going AF and there were a lot of Russell Stover marshmallow dark chocolates consumed. But, I will say this, the chocolate and sugar helped me through it. A bit of Haagen-Daz too. It's temporary. Yes, my cholesterol level jumped but nothing terrible happened. I am sure my liver thanked me. Now, I am weaning myself but once or twice a week I will still eat a few tablespoons of quality dark chocolate chips. And some days I do have a quality hot chocolate in the afternoons. It helps me relax and so be it.
Size 10 jeans from when I was 45 fit today! Snug in the waist sitting down though. I need 2 more weeks and I will be OK. My other closet has the former me wardrobe in sizes 8, 6, 4, and 2 (I am petite). I never donated them with the belief that one day I could wear them again. Who knows how low I can go? But getting into a comfy "10" by staying AF and sticking to my low cal diet the next few weeks will be my focus. Baby steps. AF is key for me.
Sending good wishes and strength to everyone this week! You really all have more power than you think, myself included. I just never think it and I should. I have a challenge week myself and anxiety is eating at me but I will do some reading and put myself to bed and focus on some future vacation planning to distract myself.9 -

That is totally normal in the beginning. We crave sweets because our bodies are so used to the sugar in the alcohol. Trust me, it passes, and one day in the not-too-distant future you’ll look at a slice of cake and say “Yuck, way too sweet for me, no thanks!”6 -
@globalhiker congrats on fitting into your jeans! That’s a huge win! BTW you must have an enormous amount of storage space to accommodate 4 different sizes! Lucky! Remember back in the day when jeans didn’t have any stretch in them? How did we survive?
@pettycoatjunction organizing is so fun. Enjoy your new kitchen drawers!
2 drinks last night, and got a ton of paperwork done. I just want this pile of crap off my desk! Next is filing, something I haven’t done in a year. I’m sure I can shred most of it.4 -
Having dinner at friend's place next weekend; I let her know ahead of time, that I would be AF for that night. Normally we drink wine together. She is happy to do an AF night as well. I am bringing some of my favorite Bubly waters for us both to enjoy instead of a bottle of wine. Have a great week everyone!

I walked outdoors 4 times last week, which always brightens my spirit. Also had a long awaited fun weekend with DH after a pretty dreary month so far! Admittedly, the crab feed was super delicious and the sparkling wine equally so.
Didn’t make my AF days last week but the consolation was I chose low calories/low alcohol wine (LA). What I did successfully is stay away from sodium and sweets and the scale is cooperating. Now I am eager to move on and rack up AF days this week.
I will focus on taking care of my physical and emotional needs, including going to my annual physical appointment tomorrow.
I hope my doctor notices I am down about 8 lbs. from last year!
May you find your best resolve, if just for today.

It looks like January is the month for the sobercurious! So many good stories here. 🙌
Whelp, I've done 21 days of my Dry January, which I want to extend until 2/10. (Valentine's dinner ❤️.)
I did a very-cold 5k charity run on Saturday (~15degF). It was fun! Typically, I'd want a beer on a day like that, so I had one of the Athletic Brewing Company AF IPAs. Pretty tasty! 🍺😇
Best resolve to everyone.👍8 -

Does anyone else who has really cut back on alcohol notice when you do have a drink it goes straight to your head?
I'm actually starting to not like to drink anymore. I see that as a good thing...
