If I look at this in a different way, that there is a 1.5lb loss, I can be ok w/ it. It is incredibly slow.

Goal for Week # 1 - focus on losing again after a long vacation and a month plus of eating holiday foods and desserts
Goal for week # 2 - plan healthy meals in advance for accurate logging of calories, introduce more vegetables, reduce sodium and get in lots of walking on non-rainy days. Accomplished all but the walking 🌧️ it has been a wet and cold week and my head cold is still hanging on 🤧 I also found myself reaching for snacks during football which I need to definitely avoid!
Goal for Week #3 - shake the head cold and continue healthy meal planning with lower sodium, less wine and lower sugar. Did well this week and even walked outside 4 times! Back to basics feels good. Should see the scale tip more soon.
Goal for Week #4 - I have been targeting 1200 calories per day for several weeks and can’t go lower (in fact often have been going over), but increasing my activity, sticking to calorie target and avoiding snack foods should shake things up.

It’s time to swallow my pride, pull out my map and get back on the right path. Yesterday was a Chinese buffet for lunch and the children’s movie Migration (very fun movie) at the Cinema. I know I am retaining water today so I hope for a drop tomorrow, but it’s going to take more than some fluid loss to right this wrong. If you’ve been around awhile then you know I’m either full-steam-ahead on track or I’m lollygagging somewhere off the beaten path. There doesn’t seem to be an in-between for me. Time to get back on track. No more shenanigans!
I'm in the same boat, Donna!

Well I’ve figured out my new calorie goal, but I also started taking an iron supplement and now I’m constipated — so still no noticeable weight loss. Maybe next week.

I’ve also been on plateau this month ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. If I average it with last month, I’m still close to plan. Weight loss is not always linear and I am not planning to change my approach for now. If the plateau continues throughout next month, I’ll reconsider. The truth is, I’m ok with losing only 1-2 pounds a month, I will still get there. For me, it’s more important to have sustainable and strong habits at this point, since I’m quite close to my target weight.8 -

January 8: 260.2. Not sure how that happened, but it's very encouraging! I must have been retaining some water somewhere because I was eating at maintenance trying to heal from being sick--craving lots and lots of oranges. At my goal for my HealthyWage challenge so i need to keep it up for the official weigh in. I plan to buy myself some roller skates with the prize money. I used to love skating as a kid; you couldn't keep me off the skating rink or out of the swimming pool if there was one nearby. Weird how when we get older we forget about things that brought joy and excitement to our lives. I didn't make resolutions this year, but as I have entered my forties, i have decided to prioritize my own health, mental health, and happiness. With roller skates See you all next week--lots of love!
January 15: 260--been really hungry the last few days. I wish there was a way to track that on Fitbit the way you can track mood and look at the trends like in the menstrual health section (hint hint, Fitbit developers who may be reading this)
January 22: 259.8 and grateful that the ice has melted and my Fitbit no linger thinks I'm dead. I tried taking the trash out, my legs flew out from under me on my first step off the porch and I strained my hip muscle. 🫠 I just learned that there are things you can put over your shoes to stop that from happening. lol

@takinitalloff ‐ I'm sorry about the constipation, that's the worst! You didn't ask but I'm going to offer anyway. There is a non constipating iron supplement from Three Arrows Nutra. Also can be taken on an empty stomach and don't have to avoid calcium. https://threearrowsnutra.com/
There's a ton of info on the website. It was the iron supplement that finally put my levels in the normal range after years, maybe decades of different supplements and cast iron skillets, etc.2 -
@Farmeress Thank you! Always happy to get info/advice, even when I didn’t specifically ask for it. I’m hoping that the constipation will clear up soon, but if it doesn’t I will try a different supplement for sure. I like that the one you linked includes folate as well as B12 (mine only has B12), because both of those are indeed linked to iron deficiency/anemia.
That’s crazy that none of your previous supplements did the trick, sorry to hear that! I took supplements in my early 20’s after my doctor diagnosed me with full-blown anemia after months of me basically sleeping all day. Whatever she told me to take worked great, but after all this time I don’t remember what it was. This time around I’m actually taking a supplement “against doctor’s advice” because both of my doctors are like, “eh, you’re fine” but I’ve been iron deficient my entire adult life (every one of my iron blood level values has been at the extreme low end of normal, or below normal, with every blood draw). I’m literally tired of living like this, so I finally decided to take a supplement. I don’t understand why they think that it’s fine for me to be bottoming out of the reference range every time I get my labs done, then what do we have a reference range for?!
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk 😄 and thanks again for the link, I’m saving it.5 -

Weighing in a day late, as yesterday's weight was 145.2 & that felt like an anomaly. Today I am optimistic about reaching my end of month goal.

@AllyNorth
A great way to deal with "anomalies," or just the normal fluctuation up and down, is to weigh daily, ignore that number, and put it in a spreadsheet or website that calculates a moving average. It's a powerful tool.
As a personal example, my scale weight was actually down almost two pounds today from yesterday. It's not real. I'm actually not sure what's going on because it should be UP because I did some strength training yesterday, and my tissues should be holding water for muscle repair. If I look at the average, it's down less than half a pound. A few days ago, the scale kicked up just a bit, but the average still went down because I'm actually on a downward trend right now.4 -

1/15 Update - Not a great week, but logged everything I ate and can look back to see my mistakes! Moving forward.
1/22 Update - Not getting much exercise with a sore lower back. Just have to be more strict in my diet.

@staceykc123 Speaking as someone who started close to where you are now: be gentle with yourself with the exercise, it'll get easier as the weight starts to come off. Just do what you can, look for joy in movement, and don't hurt yourself in the process Kudos on your excellent progress this month!5
