Heather have you read Mallarmé's poem (original is in French) about the swan stuck in a frozen lake? It's about writer's block. I'm so impressed that he could take something so frustrating and make it beautiful. I just sit and mutter. Or like today, as I clean up a bit in lieu of studying, I find a distraction. You make beauty in your paintings and your cooking and your travels.

All the chores are done and dusted, bed made, cardboard flattened and in the burn box - we're under a burn ban again for the time being. Dishes put away and the morning cups etc. in the dishwasher. Breakfast eaten (cheese curds and crackers - not the best, but I've eaten worse).
Paid the water bill online, talked to my daughter and got the family news from my husband's side of the family (he never knows... 🙃👀😀). Talked to Corey and agreed on dinner - ground beef stroganoff shepherd's pie. His side gets veggies and mine gets mushrooms. Easy-peasy.
And now it's roust the zen kitty off my lap, get my yoga done and then in the shower.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa

I saw the doctor today for a routine follow-up appointment. She was pleased that my weight was down 7 pounds from last month. I am officially pre-diabetic, so we discussed medications to help me with weight management. She said most insurance companies won't approve Ozempic unless you are diabetic, which would have been her first choice. She prescribed Vyvanse, which is approved for Binge Eating Disorder and tends to depress appetite and reduce impulsive eating. She wants me to stop by and weigh monthly at her office, for monitoring. And of course she wants me to continue to log my intake and be active. It is hard to stay motivated.4

Barbara-I posted in last month, forgetting the date switched, but if you haven't sent the note to Katla, please include me. What a wonderfully nice thing to do.

I stay motivated in many ways. I weigh myself morning and night to remind myself that concern for my weight is important. I log onto this thread every morning and read what others post to remind me that others are on this journey with me. I read books about habits to help me develop the ones I want ("Atomic Habits" by James Clear and "Better Than Before" by Gretchen Rubin). I carry a pedometer to cheer me on for the steps I walk. I only buy food that I have planned to eat. I learn new things from the women on this thread. Best wishes to you.

Good morning ladies, Happy March 1st!
Barbie - thank you for that very nice intro to March. I guess we're officially heading into spring here, or will be in a few weeks. Longer days, maybe more sunshine, warmer nights.
At the dentist yesterday for a cleaning, all was good. My hygienist is a nutrition and health research deep-diver too, so I loved hearing her talk. The time always goes too fast, lol.
Chilly weather for the next week or 10 days, so getting my woodpile rearranged.
Ortho doc's office called yesterday, the clinic X-Ray machine isn't working so I need to stop by the hospital before the appointment and they'll take care of it. I might just do that early tomorrow or Sunday morning when I run in to grab a few groceries. The hospital is normally pretty empty at that time of the day.
Make it a fabulous weekend.

Got this pic from Instagram.
Tried to fill in the online form from the doctor, but found the link had expired. The other link she sent me is just to print out a form, which I already have, and am completing. So, all good.
This afternoon is scheduled cuddle day.

This building looks remarkably close to the Los Angeles Philharmonic building (Walt Disney Concert Hall). So I looked it up and yep, also Frank Gehry. It's a lovely venue for the symphony.

I am feeling accomplished. I added hand stretches to my morning yoga habit that I'm building, and added in crunches this morning, ten of them, for the first time. Kind of an old lady thing - I'm down on the floor anyway with the plank and the upward-facing dog (https://blog.fitbit.com/7-sunny-yoga-poses-for-dark-days/), so I just rolled over and added crunches. Save me getting back down there again 👀😀. I hold each yoga pose for 30 seconds, and added the tree pose, one for each side, at the beginning and end as well. It's to help my balance issues, and is definitely a work in progress. Also did ten minutes on the elliptical...
I just haven't figured out how to add the strength training back in. I've never liked lifting, and I resist it mightily. Tomorrow, I've got bandwork written down to try, so maybe I can get that habit going. Much of it is PT for my knees as well as doing some arm work while I'm at it... Trying to slide around my lazy nature and get going one way or the other.
I'm so glad to see the back of February. Hope March is wonderful for everyone!
Shower time before Corey's lunchtime call, and then off to the X-ray.

Today’s gratitude: all you wonderful, wise, funny, compassionate women. Thank you!
Debbie sorry didn’t realize internet was so expensive there. Yow! Wish I could wave a magic want and instill some gratitude and consideration into your MIL.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

February: Move more than yesterday, fuel better than yesterday, live NOW.
Open heart and mind before mouth.
2024: Strengthen: body, mind, heart-connections.
Everything is crazy expensive here. That price for the internet is with the bundle of cable and phone with it- alone would be even more. We have high speed so ours is I think over $300 a month(dh has to have high speed)

Barbara Happy birthday!
My Hunger Habit book got better at about chapter 16. I think his techniques are excellent for one part of the overeating problem. But I still think finding the right kind and amount of food to eat by listening to my body will never work.
I talked to the online Pharmacy Technician school, Penn Foster, and it was sad. No answer to basic questions like what percentage of people finish? And they used cheap sales tactics. Not exactly an exclusive school. I would be paying $1000 and they can't quantify what I get for my money. Plus they want us to write essays. That's kind of ridiculous for this job training. I might do it anyway, but I'm not expecting much. I mostly need pacing help to get me through the material. Hmm.

A comment about intuitive eating. I ate intuitively for years and gained weight and couldn't get it off. When I found MFP, I learned about healthy eating, kept track of my eating, weighed and measured, ate planned meals at specific planned times and lost 50 pounds and kept it off for years. That's what worked for me. I get up and walk the dogs and then eat breakfast (the same breakfast every day for over 10 years--no stress, no decision making), then I walk for two hours and have a snack (the same thing every day), lunch with hubby two to three hours later (one of about ten meals we have planned together, all weighed and measured to prepare exactly two servings), a snack about an hour later, supper about two hours later (one of three meals I've planned and measured ahead of time), a planned measured snack at bedtime. I am saved from decision fatigue. It has been glorious for me. It also makes shopping for groceries easier because we eat the same foods all the time.

Thank you Barbie for bringing us into March..Got Doris all set..stopped and paid a bill and went to 2 banks and 2 grocery stores.. I am sore all over.. why I don't know..plus I didn't sleep well..
Tracy has bad morning sickness ,and she eats small snacks throughout the day.pretzels ,animal crackers,fruit..

Lisa - Could you add some knee push ups to your planks? I do planks Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and push ups the other days.( I also have dumbbells sitting there on the bed. ) I used to do full push ups, but those days are gone.
My food is on rotation. I have a list of favourites, and it often depends wwhich vegetables are coming to the end of their shelf life. Just very occasionally, I get decision fatigue, and then it's John who takes over. I need things that are easy, and often I get the prep done early afternoon, so there is only finishing off to do at 6 pm. I don't feel like cooking then. Might be Hairy Bikers tomorrow in honour of Dave Myers.
Lunch is usually some kind of sandwich. Different breads, and fillings. Occasionally Dim Sum, or Scotch Eggs.
I don't snack much any more. Today I had some Parmesan rind, because I was really hungry. So, three meals a day. I really look forward to dinner. It's always fabulous.

Annie-Congrats on the loss and increasing your times!
Kelly-Wow! That’s a great loss and a lot of squats.
Dia_R-7 pounds in a month is commendable! Congrats.
Yesterday, I walked 3.6 miles to have coffee with a friend. On the way back, I decided to take the bus. I tripped (not paying close enough attention) and scraped my shin. I didn’t think it was too bad…just a scrape. I got home and looked and it’s DEEP! I can’t see bone, thankfully, but it was much deeper than I assumed. Didn’t bleed too much, didn’t hurt much. Anyway, it’s pretty ugly looking and of course, I have a wedding to go to next week and planned to wear a dress.
Fortunately, I have a doctor friend and got some advice from her. My new insurance information has not yet arrived, so I wanted to avoid going to my doc. I’ll just keep it clean and covered and watch for infection. It still doesn’t hurt and I’m very shocked by that.
Machka-Scary storm! I like storms, but hate the wind effects that often accompany them.
Oh Lisa-The story! Yes, sometimes you just have to laugh at a bad situation.
I too am on the CICO train. I’ve heard a lot about mindful eating, but that doesn’t work for me, particularly for dinner. I eat lunch around 1pm and then am often busy and not thinking about food all afternoon and into the evening. So, if I relied on mindful eating, I’d eat dinner around 8pm and that has proven to be a bad thing for me. I try to finish eating by 6pm and fast at least 12 hours. Weighing food and counting calories definitely helps with portion control!
All that said, I still can't drop the post-menopause weight. I'm not gaining, however.
Got the yard work done before the winds come tomorrow. Now I’m too tired to do my weight workout.
Got lunch of roasted shrimp with garlic and herbs prepped. Will have a very simple salad with it.
Make it a great day!

A correction for a mistake I didn't notice in time enough to fix the error - we paid the house off last July, not "yesterday." Was going to say "It feels like yesterday," and somehow left off the rest of that context! It does feel that way, and was a mental and emotional triumph and a huge milestone for me and Corey, but it was not actually yesterday. 😊
The X-ray this afternoon is, I think, the last of the hoops to jump through to start the Stelara. The estradiol cream came in and I began using it on Tuesday. These feel as if some of the barriers in the obstacle course are being conquered. One heart stress test next week, then the heart ultrasound the first week of April, and the last obstacle surmounted to either move forward with the stroke preventer or take another path. I will see the orthopod again in two weeks to see what, if anything, can be done for the pain in my knees.
That is, as of this writing, the last of the big obstacles. Trying to juggle Crohn's disease, 24-7 A-fib, post-menopausal atrophy, and knee issues all at once is no fun--but I have for the time being at least, conquered anemia that was complicating everything, and gotten my overall health in much better shape. I've felt an awful lot worse than I do right now. I'm grateful to feel better, and the rest will be what it is.

Goals were a mixed bag for February:
Time to get moving - Corey will be calling soon for my "good morning" call...
Love y'all!

We paid our house off about 7-8 yrs ago- that was the biggest thing dh wanted to do before he retired. Paid the house off and six months later he retired(then went back part time, within the restrictions of his pension.
It feels so great not having that monthly bill- We have the basic bills plus property tax, etc of course but not having that mortgage payment or car payment has been nice.

Walked MIL's dog this morning in between showers-did sprinkle a little so we jogged part of the way(it was down hill)
Planned on walking the wetlands but not sure if I will- will put my rain pants on with my rain jacket but won't do the full hour. Winds are blowing hard still- hard to walk in 24mph winds-add in the cold rain. May just sit in the car and wait for her. I have already hit 6 out of 5 days of exercise so I can skip this afternoon.
Will catch up here when I get back.2 -

Heather - I like the idea of adding knee push-ups to the planks... anything I can easily add in and start at the easy level and work up helps circumvent my laziness. It's actually done a LOT of good to simply write in my planner ahead of time what I'm going to do. Harks back to my working days, I think - if I went to the trouble to write something in my planner, it wasn't negotiable, it had to be done.
KJ - Woohoo! Well done on the weight loss! Those are wonderful numbers. Don't forget to do measurements too... they always help in the weight-loss pauses, which always happen... Wish I could do the squats, but they're too destructive yet. Working on it. As far as the irreverent goes... yeah, I've found that irreverence makes life a whole lot easier to get through. Staid disapproval did not go over well in my family. After my mother's memorial service, I walked into her bedroom and found three of her daughters-in-law there carping about one of her grandsons bringing a six-pack of beer to the after-funeral gathering. Mama would have thought it was funny and probably shared one with him. Which I said at the top of my lungs and at tremendous length before evicting them from the room. Silly heifers. Disapproval in the South is practically a sport. Usually beginning, "Bless his heart... " 😀😈😊
Annie - Well done on all the work you're doing, as well as the weight lost. You always inspire me.
Dia_R - Well done on your weight lost as well!
Allie - Always love the photos of Miles...dlfk202000 wrote: »We paid our house off about 7-8 yrs ago- that was the biggest thing dh wanted to do before he retired. Paid the house off and six months later he retired(then went back part time, within the restrictions of his pension.

Car's next! Working on getting it paid off this year. The sunroom build will be done by end of this month, and then I start throwing every extra dollar at the car.
So... the X-ray's done, and they were not busy. So much so that the results have already been posted, with no abnormality found. I didn't think there would be. Now we'll see how quick gastro is on getting the Stelara in motion. I think that was the last hoop.
Time to get started on dinner prep so when Corey calls to say he's on the way home, I can slide it in the oven and we can eat at a reasonable hour.
Later babies...
Love,

Barbara, I live in Northeast Georgia.
Reflections on spiritual matters in spoiler. Scroll on by if not your thing. This is what I’ve been doing the last couple of weeks.I have been struggling with a plateau for the last two or three years in spite of seeming to be constantly “on a diet”. I felt like I was making weight/loss MFP even, an idol. It’s one reason I kind of pulled back from posting for a little bit. In looking for a Lenten Study I found two that I couldn’t choose between so decided to do both. One is called “My Body is Good” by Rev. Anne Cumings and the other is called “The 40-day Body Image Workbook” by Heather Creekmore. I started them both on Ash Wednesday along with another book by Creekmore called “Compared to Who.” Within a week, my anxiety about my weight totally disappeared. I prayed and prayed and decided that I was going to hold my weight in open hands and accept my body at its current weight and be happy if I never lost another pound.
The thing I love so much about Heather Creekmore is that she is not a Body Positivity person. She says that movement also focuses too much on self and not enough on God. She does suggest that if you know you really are overweight to get a good nutritionist who is not immersed with diet culture to help you. I feel like I have that with Katrina and Chris Sequenzia and Healthy Free Life Academy, where I have a Gold Membership. My inner peace with ditching the obsession with the food, mainly following what they have taught me about healthy, intuitive eating and logging my calories for awareness, and somehow I dropped 4 lbs in 2 weeks. I do know that I need to continue to choose healthy foods and move my body since I am still considered overweight by anyone’s standards, but I am not going to obsess over it anymore.
I put all of this in a spoiler, because it is Christian based. If you are Christian and struggle with body image issues like I do, I highly recommend both Creekmore books. I am enjoying the Cuming book, but it is way lighter reading. It is inspirational, but not life-changing in the way the other book is. Creekmore has you looking up scripture after scripture and digging deep into your thought and feelings.12 -

Barbara: Happy Birthday. Will read more of the posts tomorrow.
Still feeling much better. Walked in the evening and did lunges which is very unusual and today I did some light yoga and walked. Ate 1200 calories.
Reading a little bit about Ozempic. I wonder if it is worth it to take it for 3 months and then stop. This would be a big decision but my weight is in the 190s now. I am feeling better so maybe I will move more on my own.
Best,

Have a look at job ads for Pharmacy Technicians and see if they indicate a certain level or type of certification you need. That might help you decide where to attend.
When I've been job hunting, I've done that ... looked to see what qualifications the positions I'm most interested in want from applicants.

CI<CO works for me too. In fact, it is sometimes amazing how well it works.
I eat basically the same things over and over and that works for me because I have determined portion size and calorie amounts for those things. It's when I eat extra things or deviate from my pattern, I run into trouble.
