M – when we were looking for a house Vince made a spread sheet of things that we must have, things that we would like to have, and things that there is no way we’d want
That's the easy part!
It's also easy to find a house with the things we want.
And it's easy to find a house with the things we want that is reasonably within our budget.
Getting the house, however, is the problem.Oh, got an email from bryan. He's going to France for a month so that Leo can meet some of his relatives, especially the older ones. He said we could go to France. that would be nice, but France is a big country. Where? Where would we stay? How would we get around (neither of us drives a stick). No, he really doesn't want us. Maybe SOMEDAY he'll come to the US, but I'm not holding my breath.
Michele now in FL soon to be back in NC
Jump on the opportunity!
Ask him where.
Ask him when.
France is full of accommodations of various sorts.
France is easy to get around. My husband and I have spent some time in France and have never had to get a car. We've gotten around by train and bicycle.
Have you been to France? We love it there!

Machka I get mad whenever you tell us about the back-to-work person. Please tell me she’s totally out of your lives now? Lord have mercy on her other “clielnts”.
Barbara
Oh yes, she went to Darwin! But we're completely out of that system now, which is wonderful. We're on our own!

cityjaneLondon wrote: »I have two cruises this year. One at the end of April/May and one in October. My thought is to get the op at the beginning of June, if I went privately. We have committed to looking after the kids for a couple of nights at the very beginning of June while the parents go cycling in France.
I could cancel this next cruise, get my money back on medical grounds and book a private op as soon as possible. Or, I could go on the next cruise, but treat myself as a 90 Yr old, of which there are plenty on the ship. There are many walker assisted people and even wheelchair passengers. I would have to tell Saga what degree of assistance I needed. The excursions are graded according to your fitness. I would be sad not to go round the museum, but I could probably book a wheelchair.
I will make all these decisions when I have test results. My preference is to get it over with, but the cortisone injections might see me through the cruise. My friend L, who had both hips replaced, was surviving on Tramadol!
I would really like a diagnosis, so I know which way to go. There is no perfect decision.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx grateful for all your care and concern.
My advice (FWIW) is ... get a diagnosis first before you start planning or changing plans.
If it could be a torn labrum like I had, it might just mean a few weeks of rest.
But you don't know yet.
Have a chat with your doctor about what you've mentioned here. Ask for an X ray and MRI. Find out.
Also on here, you've not described what you are experiencing well. You may have chosen to do that deliberately and that's fine. But for your doctor be sure you are describing what you are experiencing well.
On a scale of 1 to 10, what would you rate the pain?
Is the pain sharp like a knife stab or aching like when you've done too much exercise and the next day you feel sore?
Does it feel like it is in the muscle or deeper?
Can you trace the outline of where the pain is or a line of where it starts and ends?
Does a particular activity trigger the pain?
Does the pain go away if you sit or lie down?
Go through and describe everything you can about the pain to the doctor.
Sometimes it helps to write it down.
If nothing shows up in the blood flow tests, the X-ray or the MRI, ask to be referred to a good physiotherapist who specialises in lower limbs and/or a sports doctor.
They can run you through a number of movement tests to help narrow it down.

Just wanted to add, or ask ... when did you have that fall where you broke your wrist?
Did the leg pain start up after that?
If so, maybe it is a labrum tear caused by a traumatic incident.

Good morning ladies!
Sue good job fixing the new goat shelter! That will be much safer.
Machka so glad you are out of that back to work pressure. You have had enough on your plate without that.
Heather good luck tackling the medical system. You can do it!
Lisa one last x-ray right? You are on the homestretch! This new medicine sounds like just the ticket.
Tracey hope you can exercise to prepare for the practicum. I am a little nervous about getting a job standing all day, and twisting around on my knee. All I can do to prepare is exercise. And keep my brace handy. But it would be worse long term to be sitting all day.
I decided to tackle medical terminology. If I can get a handle on that by the end of the month, I will enroll in the pharmacy technician class in
April. That's the plan. I ordered flashcards for the medical terminology. It may be overkill, but most of it should be good prep. There are about six hundred flashcards!
Today I have a longer meditation exercise planned at my friend's house. I'm bringing my lunch so I should be okay for calories.
Have a great day my friends!

Tracey - Thank you for the video. I found it fascinating. What tourists see is so far from the reality. It sounds mediaeval there. Plus I would hate all the pesticides etc. I love getting the gen behind a place when I go on holiday, so I'm not just seeing the pretty surface. Some of our coach guides were very good at this, and I asked all kinds of questions about education, social security etc. There are dark corners almost everywhere.
Michele - I know your recent relationship with your son has been very traumatic for you. You may feel you just can't bear the thought of risking that again. I understand that. He may be feeling the same way, but has put out a teeny, tiny, feeler to you. Sometimes we need to be the bigger person after someone has hurt us. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.
I'm looking forward to the brachial test tomorrow, although I'm pretty convinced now that it's not that. I hope the NP will be able to refer me for X-ray, which should be easy enough locally. Then we will see.
I have been on the list at the hospital for physio for months. I referred myself last year and they responded to say I was on the list. Then nothing. I would ring them, but right now, I think it's better not to confuse things and wait for the x-ray.
The last time I went on a list, for knee physio at doctor's referral, I waited 5 months. Then they rang me to ask wearily if I still needed it. I didn't because I had been to a private sports clinic at the gym. She was the only person, in 40 years of hospital investigations who found the knee problem and cured it.
John was awake for a couple of hours in the night. I asked him if he was worrying about anything. He said, 'Not really'. I said, 'Are you worrying about me.' He said, 'Maybe'.
That means yes.

I had success with my second yogurt making attempt. I read a few methods and combined them.
I made it in a small crock pot so I only used 2 cups of whole milk...
and a quarter cup of starter yogurt (plain good quality)
I used a digital cooking thermometer. I also needed a large pot to heat water...
I put milk into a small crock pot covered and put on high with temp probe in milk. I did put some hot pads on top of the cover and wrapped crock pot with old towels. When temp reached 180 degrees (it took about an hour and a half) I turned it off removed towels and hot pads and took the quarter cup of yogurt out so it could get to room temp.
Then I let it cool to 110 degrees... When it was getting close to 110 degrees I started to heat the water on the stove. (Again took about an hour and a half because it was a small batch)
At 110 I stirred in the room temp starter yogurt. When the water was close to boiling I place the crock pot sleeve into the pot so water was at the level of the yogurt mix. I then covered the mix and put the hot pads back on the top and then covered the pot with its cover. Next I took old towels and completely wrapped the pot with its contents and let it sit on the counter. It was supposed to sit for 10 hours but because I started too late ( in future I need to start at 7-9 in the morning) I only let it sit 8. Still it turned out.
I had to put it into the pot and wrap it like I did because I keep my home at 67 degrees.
I will definitely make it again. It made just the right amount for me.
I think the temp probe and keep the mix warmer was the difference this time!
I am storing it in glass.4 -
Heather - I'm so sorry you are in so much pain. I hope they find out the problem soon. A few weeks ago, I was getting food for our dogs, and twisted before bending over when...pop. I've had a pain in one side of my bottom since then. I have no idea what I did, but I hope it starts to dissipate soon. Ensure you find out for what the problem is before making a decision on the cruise. Vacationing in a wheelchair is not all it's cracked up to be. I've been there, and I cried most of the time. I'm sure you are made of stronger stuff, but waiting might just be a gift to yourself.
Tina - I have a GE Profile range top (double oven on the side). I love my stovetop. It's glass and cleans easily. That's a good thing, too, because it get something dirty, lol. It's only went out once, and it just took a little re-plug to get it started again. We've had it for 19 years.
Michele - I'm sorry your son is not giving you a realistic invitation into your grandchild's life. I know how much that can hurt. I have one grandchild I haven't seen since she was a few months old. As a blessing in disguise, her father left his other two children with me and ran off with the new baby and her mother. He has never come back. So, while I have adopted the two he left, he has never given me the opportunity to know his third child. I would love to meet her, but It probably won't happen. since he has been gone now for over ten years. Try a little harder, Michele, the pain will go away if you put yourself out a little more and it doesn't work out, but it will never go away if you don't give it a chance.
Tracey - Years ago, when I was finishing school to become a teacher, I still had to do my student teaching. Wouldn't you know it, I broke my three little toes, and the doctor said there was nothing to be done except stay off of it. Of course, I couldn't do that, so I found this one pair of gladiator looking sandals, that I could wear, and wore those all summer long till my student teaching was over. I made that work by the skin of my teeth, I tell ya. Maybe you could find some very comfortable shoe and explain the situation. Other options are crutches, wheelchair, or those new scooters that you put your knee up on. I hope it all works out for you.
BTW - Tracey - My washer is leaking too, and I spent bank on it not too long ago. Hopefully my hubby will have it fixed soon, since there is at no time in the great fire pit that he would call a repairman for anything, lol.
Lisa - I get so many friend requests from men, that I'm considering changing my MFP name to MrsMlmz. In fact I think everyone should do it, even if they are not married, just to keep the boys at bay. I've started to respond to conversations/messages with stats including my eight children, husband, and how happy hubby and I are. Usually they never write me back, lol.
Margaret - I made some onion bread yesterday (which I have successfully made before) that did not rise, because the house was too cold. Kudos to you for making that yogurt work.
My husband and I recently bought a new deep freezer and freezerless refrigerator. They are both the largest we could find in the general market and are meant to be in addition to what we have in the kitchen. So, with all the appliance talk, I thought I would share. I really am excited.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES!
When I had a bad bout with plantar fasciitis, my doc did 2 things: gave me a boot to wear to bed which caused major cramps at night, but helped. And second, get a 16 oz water bottle and freeze it. Then, whenever you think of it, roll it under for foot for 16 minutes or so. It was slow healing, AND I had it in both feet, but it eventually went away. The ice bottle really helped make it feel better.
I will spare you the menu I had yesterday but suffice it to say, I took advantage of my no calorie counting! LOL no desert, but ate enough of the main mail to take care of any room for desert!! 😈
Doctors 4 out of 5 days this week. Today is Renal doc. It should be a good one as I improved all the numbers by being conscious of what I eat! (Except yesterday!!). Tomorrow, therapist, Wednesday primary care with DH and Friday a video appointment with someone from the insurance to do everything the others did all over again!! I tried to tell them how I’m seeing all the other docs on a regular basis, but they insisted that they would do something they don’t?? Can’t imagine what that would be over the Internet?? I was curious, so agreed. I’ll keep you posted on what was so special about that one! LOL.

The cleaner has been. Hooray for having a cleaner! She has put her prices up, but it's still worth it, once every two weeks.
Tonight's dinner is broccoli and feta frittata.
When we were discussing next year's possible cruise, I dropped into the conversation that we might have to cancel this year's cruises. John seems to have grasped that reality. He has paid for the entire April cruise. We are sharing the cost of the October one. Only paid the deposit so far.
My friend G has just got a physio appointment for her foot after being referred nearly a year ago.
My cleaner's 80 Yr old mother had a hip replacement recently, and is fully recovered. Only one side, mine is both. She had to pay privately as the waiting lists were too long and the pain too great. Our waiting lists are a scandal. 7 million waiting for a referral appointment. Junior doctors often on strike. I support the strikes, for pay and conditions, but it makes the waiting lists even longer.

Happy Birthday, Rita

Good morning my dears, from a cloudy, warm Arkansas morning... already at 62f (17c),
It was such a good weekend... even with the whoopsie-daisy and the scratches, I enjoyed getting out and exercising every muscle I own brushpopping. Still debating on getting out today, but if I do, it will be this afternoon. Pardon the horsey reference, but I feel like I was rode hard and put away wet. Yoga this morning is going to be ouchy. But necessary.
Lanette - I had a lapful of Egg 🐈⬛when I read your first post this morning. Nearly spit my coffee out. Good timing! 😀
Annie - So well done getting back to your exercise habits!
Heather - John's a sensitive soul where you're concerned. Has he ever seen you in this kind of struggle before? I can't remember if your cancer fight was before or after the two of you got together. The Nordic countries seem to have it together in terms of healthcare, but few others do. I'm sorry yours is in such an uproar.
Tracey - Thanks for the video. In the U.S., we tend to think of Canadians as just terribly polite people with socialized medicine--but rapacious corporate greed is apparently universal. Corporations and government between them control so much of our lives, and finding a way that doesn't harm people seldom seems to occur to any of them. Lip service is always paid, but belief is optional.
Michele in NV - Love the freezer! I had one many, many years ago that was big enough to hide a body in, and named it "Mr. Beasley." (Long story.) When you've got a lot of people to feed, it takes that kind of storage. I love having two freezers, and there are only two of us to feed! It allows us to buy things like ribeye roasts that Corey can then cut and freeze individually, taking the price for a good steak for him from $18 to $20 each down to $3 or $4. We buy shrimp in bulk for me, same thing. Not Debbie's prices, but still pretty darned good, especially if you compare them to restaurant prices.
And... an hour later, had just begun my first yoga stretch when my best friend called. She's a tax preparer and in her super-busy season, so I let her call when she's got time. Got my meds sorted for the week while I had her on the phone. Then Corey called to let me know he's headed up the hill to fix one of their pieces of heavy equipment - should be back in time for dinner.
And... then just as I got off the phone with Corey, and got ready to do my yoga again, my daughter called... but while I talked to her (she celebrated her birthday this weekend), I was able to get the bird feeders filled and the laundry going. Now I'll walk the trash down to add to this afternoon's pickup. Then, I swear! I'll get the yoga done, and then get laundry folded. Busy Monday morning, but I like it this way.
Hope it's a lovely peaceful Monday where you are.

Lisa - We met in 2003 and married in 2004. The breast cancer was diagnosed in 2007. Telling him was so hard. I didn't tell him i was even going to the hospital until I had a diagnosis. Even then I waited a day and could only pluck up the courage because the breast cancer nurse was urging me to, on the phone. We were on the beach at Whitstable.
The reason why I was so reluctant was that his previous partner died of breast cancer and he still has PTSD from nursing her at home.
I've been looking up local waiting times for NHS. 32 weeks. That's for one hip.
