Just posted my 1st picture! Gibb's Gardens about an hour North of Atlanta. The Daffodil's and Cherry Blossoms were in bloom. Terrific weather. Enjoyed meeting new people!

Hi Friends. I'm on page 17 and working to catch up. But wanted to pop in here and let you know the big snow storm has deposited over a foot of heavy wet flakes here in my scenic corner of the Colorado foothills. The trees outside our condo are sagging under it all, and we have about another 15 hours of snowfall before it stops. The parking lot area between our building and my garage is a giant puddle. But our HOA pays a service to come plow and shovel, so I'm staying warm and dry. Thankfully, I am not scheduled to work until Tuesday. By then, we will be back in the 60's. Yes, this is normal for us in March.
So for now, Mars and I are staying cozy indoors, grateful we have power, food, and time to wait out these conditions.
I see that tornados are heading east. Hope everyone stays safe. More news later.

Heather - Came into my bookmarked page here at Bea's beaming face - what a sweetheart. Looks like a lovely evening, and so glad you got your mind off things for a bit. Pain consumes us in so many ways, far more than just the part that hurts.
Terri - Thank you for that comment. The points I make can be obscure, but I always notice how people refer to food and their own behavior regarding food. When we can dismiss the emotion we invest in food, we get to retain control.
Allie - Glad you're home and doing well.
Rosemarie - Well done on your first photo post! The flowers are just beautiful... my husband was walking by when it popped up on my screen, and said, "Wow, that's beautiful!"
Egg has been in my bed since about 4 o'clock, under the covers, where the rumble-bumbles of thunder and lightning can't get her. It's always where she runs when the gate alarm goes off for a delivery. I looked under the covers once and she looked at me like demons were on her tail. She came out to check on Corey in the shower just now, but another lightning and thunder sent her back to the safe place. Poor baby. Don't you hate to see them scared?
I don't often find things that make me truly laugh out loud. This did.

The weather got nasty fast! NW of Ginny and I got hit really hard. We are watching news and lightning while listening to thunder. It rattled our walls and knocked things off window sills, but everything is fine for both Ginny and I.
Going to try to get some sleep. Prayers especially for those who have lost their homes tonight.

Had ceramics tonight after a very boring speaker this afternoon. I struggled to stay awake and one classmate did doze off on camera. 4 hours of mediocre, at best, presentations is a lot!

Bea chose the dress. She had her eye on a pink one for months, but changed her mind to the blue one. She has been counting down the days!
I got her the bolero as an extra, as I thought she might get cold.
She also chose the venue for the party! She loves lamb and the Persian breads they have there. I don't think she knew about the candle and songs though.
A meal for seven works out expensive! John paid the tip, but they were treating us. Edie said that they celebrated with the other grandparents last Sunday, Mother's Day, at The Regency. She said, her grandfather offered to split the bill, but my son refused. "If I had been him, I would have accepted! " :laugh:
She also said, "If anyone asks about the football result, we agreed to say it was 1:2. But actually, it was 0:11!"

Heather I love Bea's dress! A beautiful shade of blue.
Kylia and Ginny, thankful you escaped a direct hit. This weather is so devastating.
Allie if you feed that cat when you were sleeping, she will ask again tomorrow night! Teddy is a master at that kind of thing. He only gets his dinner after I eat, but there are treats built into the routine. He gets a tiny treat when I go down to exercise. That way he will do everything he can to get me down there.
The next tip from my book says that eating food you don't need is a waste just as much as tossing it. More so, even, because of the damage it does.
My dad eats pudding after dinner then ice cream an hour later. Treats all day long. But he walks so much it doesn't seem to affect his waistline. Or maybe I can't tell under the sweater he wears. Anyway, I am focused on my diet, and have other battles to pick with him.
Today we are going to clean out a cabinet of glasses and coffee mugs. We have way too many that we don't use. I don't entertain, so maybe six is plenty. Of course people will come by when my dad passes. Hmm. We still have way too many. I wonder if goodwill will take the old ones.

Oh I almost forgot my Friday weigh-in. I'm down 1.9 pounds this week to 180.2. Yay!
I really like weighing daily. Combined with drinking more water I can really see what I'm doing. And my dinner snacks show up immediately, likely due to salt.

Heather Bea looks beautiful! It looks like a lovely time was had by all.
Tracey I would have had a hard time staying awake with a poor presenter, especially in the afternoon. You are doing so well in classes.
Annie Yay for dad and pants! In spite of me clearing out glasses and cups a few years ago, we still have too many! Good job on trying to declutter some. You have been doing great with exercise and paying attention to eating.
Past weekend drama so putting in spoilerMy Aunt's celebration of life was beautiful and just what she would have enjoyed- good food and great desserts eaten first! We spent a lot of time with family. I did learn while going through memory books that my aunt had that my grandmother had been married 3 times! I knew about 2 of them. I always thought she was so independent having been a divorcee in the 1940's. This one occurred after the death of her son at age 7. Her second marriage lasted about 10 years. Then she married someone for less than a year. Shocking! I am still struggling with some congestion but otherwise feeling fine. So really the rest of week after home was rough health wise. Then on that Thursday I noticed that one of the mechanics had written on my calendar at work that he was taking off the same weekend that my DH and I are off in May. All dates are written on SIL's calendar so that nothing overlaps. He knows this. He had made no mention of taking time off to anyone even though it is Spring in a lawnmower shop. He blew up when I asked him about it. His response was that he waited two months before putting it on calendar and telling the people that he would be in their wedding. I have told him multiple times that he has to let D know when he has appointments so that it can go on her calendar. WTH! So now DH and I have to rearrange our dates some. R's response was that he deserved time off and therefore put it on my calendar and that I needed to remember what it was like before I became the boss's wife and wanted time off. My response was that I have always needed to request time off from any job including this one. Things have to be coordinated especially with less than 5 employees. R was then sick on Saturday and Monday-smh. So I dealt with that, yes, he is still going to wedding and we are adjusting our trip. SIL will bring in grandson to help on the Saturday but we will have to be at work on the Friday.
After all that drama followed Saturday night. DH and I went to a Whitetails Unlimited Banquet. It is a fundraiser promoting hunting especially for youth and veterans. There is a silent auction, live auction, lots of games, a raffle, and plenty of chances to win prizes. Now there was nothing I was interested in for any of the auctions or the raffles, but the raffle tickets came with our sponsorships. Dinner was done and I was looking up stuffs on my phone (about 3 hours into event). DH asks what I am doing, I told him looking up information on phone. He asks what, I tell him, he asks what that has to do with banquet, I said nothing, but I was interested in it. He made some snide comment. I was DONE! I left phone and purse with him and went outside and walked- 10k steps. I was just DONE! I went back inside when I realized that nephew and his friends were leaving so I would be needed by DH for the raffle. DH goes off and says I made a fool of myself and people were talking about it and we might as well leave. Whatever....I didn't make a scene, I just went for a walk to avoid making a scene thanks to his attitude. I commented that we still had raffles to get through. He said to just give the tickets away, so I did. At this point we had been at event for over 5 hours. The arguing continued in truck on way home and that is when he crossed the line. He mentioned something about work and my response....do you want me to find another job? He said "OH, you will try to find someone else to take care of you??" My response..."You really think I NEED someone to take care of ME? REALLY? I am perfectly capable of caring for myself and don't need anyone to take care of ME! I think he realized that he had crossed that line because he shut up. I was BROKEN! Absolutely BROKEN. It was a long night of heartbreak. He apologized lots on Sunday for his behavior, but I wasn't ready to accept it. I went to grocery and blasted my music in my car. I might have spoken 20 words all day Sunday. This is where Machka's brain injury information needs to come into play. He does have a brain injury mix that with alcohol, noise, blindness, lots of people- just not a good combination. Not excusing the meltdown and rude, hurtful words, but need to work on my responses or limiting these situations. Finally felt more like myself and not as hurt on Monday. I will say he has been on his best behavior since then.
Prayers for the families who have lost homes and lives north of us. We really just got awe inspiring thunderstorms.
I have not hit any of my goals lately. Lack of water I am feeling today, so need to really work on that.

Annie - We have moved several times so have been able to get rid of most of our excess mugs and glasses. We do have a lot of mugs, because John only runs the dishwasher every other day, so we use nearly all of them. Glasses we have limited them. Six of each type is plenty. We have a couple of extras in the utility.
They can easily creep up on you.
I would not hold a wake at my house these days, but if I did, I'm sure neighbours would help out with crockery etc. Most things can be borrowed.
My son and Edie are going to borrow my KitchenAid, because they want to make macarons.
I went out to the shops around the corner to get supplies for the sleepover. I took two aspirins after breakfast, which does seem to help. It was painful coming home, but not agony.
I managed 25 mins on the recumbent bike this morning, plus my mat work and dumbbells. Must keep muscle tone. I'm not rowing at the moment, because that seizes up my groin too much. So, I'm doing what I can and checking in with myself.
Kylia - Lots of hugs. I'm sure we've all been there. I certainly have. Usually when I've had a few drinks.

Kylia - thank you for the tornado update, glad you and Ginny are safe. Also ((((HUGS))) for that weekend. So much piled on for you to deal with. Glad your DH came around, sometimes we just need to draw a hard line to get their attention and like you mentioned, he has some brain injury that doesn't help.
Lisa - hope you made it through your wild weather OK. Egg knows where to head to be safe.
Heather - Bea is so darn cute in that dress. That bolero was a smart pick, really completes the outfit. Glad the report came in from your X-Rays, it will be interesting to see where it goes from here. Crossing fingers there's a plan that will get you walking again and resolve your pain.
Annie - glad to hear your Dad put on his pants to get the paper. Way to go with your weight loss. Your plan is working, good job.
That's an interesting comment about eating food we don't need just as much of a waste as tossing it. I never thought of it like that, but it's true. It's been better for me to just not bring goodies in the house now that I'm living by myself, because I'm like Barbie. I can't cut the throttle down to slow when there's a pack of my favorite cookies around.
Machka and Debbie - thank you for your Voltaren information. I may give it a try after all. My foot gets grumpy by the end of the day. I'm still taking it easy on the walking. However, I can walk in my sock feet on carpeting relatively pain free.
Ginny - that reminds me, how's your foot?
Had a very nice lunch with my friend M yesterday. She's diabetic and is on insulin and some other meds, she's able to keep her A1C down around 4. Said she tried Ozempic when it first came out, gave her tremendous headaches so she switched to injecting insulin, which is much better.
Another lunch in town today with my friends T and R. I'm becoming a regular social butterfly, lol.
I've starting doing sciatica exercises, mainly press-ups and bridging, and I think they help. Also incorporated hamstring stretches. Left hip is loose and just fine, right hip is tight. I was amazed to see the difference between them.
Have started mattress shopping. All I want is 2 twin XL mattresses with springs to replace the worn out king size memory foam mattress and have it and the 2 toppers hauled away. Already have the box springs. Stopped at a mattress store yesterday and got the spiel and after all of the "special deals" and sales, the total still came up with $2700, needed to use their box springs, special frame, etc. I don't think so. There are quite a few mattress and furniture stores in town. Let the games begin.

I’m trying to get healthy and lose weight by maintain a high protein low carb diet. Plus going to GoodLife Fitness at least three times a week and hopefully have a personal trainer to motivate me along the way once a week…9 -

Crystal, Welcome. I hope you will keep coming back. I read this thread every morning while I eat my breakfast. It puts me on track to do healthy things and take good care of myself, I found MFP and this thread when I was 62 and the veteran of decades of failed attempts to lose weight. Starting with baby steps, I've changed my life and created habits that promote health and fitness. I've lost 50 pounds and kept it off.Annie, good idea to choose your battles with your dad. Also, get rid of things you don't use. You don't have to have all that stuff "just in case" for the future.Allie, Be careful. The cat is training you to feed her on her schedule instead of yours. Halfway through the month ...
Today was a 3 km walk. Parking in the city is challenging. In order to avoid paying for parking or dealing with parking garages, we choose to park some distance away from where we want to go.
Then we walked to pick up my medication, to get something to eat, and to the concert hall to attend another symphony.
The symphony was another stunning performance! Well worth attending. We've attended two symphonies this month and both have been amazing.
I also did some work in the garden, but I didn't think it was enough to record in my exercise spreadsheet.

Great Friday from gloomy NM. The last two days have been overcast, and I am not used to that any more. It has affected my mood and I just want to crawl back into bed! I need to go to PO and Walmart today so no bed for me.. Perhaps a nap later? I’ve been doing good on all my goals except my weight. I know it’s water weight as it goes up 5 pounds in a week and goes down the same 5 pounds in a week or maybe a little less. Depressing. I’ll be sure to mention it to my Renal doc the next appointment. I may try the recommended meds just to help with my weight, and blood pressure. Have the A1C down to 5.4 which is high normal, but blood pressure varies with weight fluctuations. Renal numbers are good, I think I fixed that! IDK, just yucky from the weather I think.
I have noticed a big change in DH’s memory of late. I’ve told you all before he has alcoholic dementia. It is begining to show more and more. He talks to me and gets all the details mixed up. I told him some fact recently, that he repeated to me that he found on ‘the Internet’ and changed some of it to make it a lot worse than it really was, and it was his idea. He had never done that before. That night he was really mixing a lot of stuff up. He used to box, and had gotten into a lot of fight when he was young to add to the alcohol, so I expected this. I don’t argue with him about the facts just acknowledge what he says. Problem is, he says stuff that is totally off the wall to campers that come in. They believe him because they don’t know any better. I get embarrassed about it if I hear him and can’t correct him in front of others b/c it causes an argument that embarrasses the people he talks to, so I just walk away knowing that I know the truth. He is 70 now, and I’m glad he lasted this long with his mind. Not sure how long I’ll be able to deal with this before I can’t anymore….
This stuff is affected my weight too. I know it..

Oh, Rita, I’m so sorry. I have no idea how I would deal with that in your shoes.
Annie, your tales of your father’s escapades without his pants (pun kind of intended) remind me of a kindergarten student my daughter had in her class. The little girl’s clothes would make her itchy; she would just start to shed them when that happened. My daughter put her on a written behavior plan which essentially said “student will keep her clothes on all day.” Just one of many reasons why I could never teach kindergarten.
