Afternoon ladies
Wow Rita ,that was a doozy of a panic attack..and im glad they finally got you to a hospital..but sheesh like others have said if it was a stroke..
Heather- im sorry your not feeling up to par..
Hope your Dr's appointment goes well..and you can still make the cruise.
Tracy is apprehensive about her appointment on Wednesday..she sees the fetal monitor dr and of course is worried ..she always reads the worsted into everything..she has heard of losing twin pregnancies up to 22 weeks and she is just keeping that in the back of her mind. I take the brighter approach and know all will be well..
I slept in a bit.. but having some tummy troubles so will lay low today..its just me and Siri..3 -
Rita-Wow. What a scare! I hope you’re better and can get someone else to check out for something they may have missed. I had no idea anxiety could do that.
Heather-Hopefully you can get some answers soon. Sorry you have to cancel the cruise, but you wouldn’t enjoy it much if you were in so much pain anyway.
Machka-I actually like the main toilet being in a separate room. The mister's childhood house was like that (in Europe), but they didn't have any ensuite bathrooms. However, I would not like it being across or down the hall, though it would be OK if there were a sink in the room with it.
All wood floors are not easy to care for, in my opinion. I am constantly sweeping them and they need to be washed and polished every month, which is not an easy task and it does not get done, so they look awful. Moving furniture is not easy but you have to do that or dust collects under it. They show every ding, scuff, and scratch. I would have laminate or tile if it were reasonable.
House wish list-I'd like to be a happy renter. I like my current house which checks most of the boxes and is good for aging here. The man who lived in it for 50 years (and still lived here when he passed) made modifications for aging. He put in the door handles you just push rather than turn, light switches you just press easily rather than flip, etc. No stairs.
But any house I'd buy now, if I needed to, would be this house with a few additional things. It would need solar panels (which we have), a grey water system, no lawn to keep up (or very minimal upkeep), and no underground irrigation. I need a garage for my car and LOTS of space for the mister's hobbies because they make massive messes. I'd like my own space that is mine and not doing double duty as a guest room. A chef's kitchen for sure. Separate bathrooms are MANDATORY. I will not budge on that.
And a major wish is someone to clean the house thoroughly every week and pick up the clutter. This is impossible for a reasonable price...and really it's impossible to find someone trustworthy and dependable these days. I'm just not that rich.
So, this will make sense after that setup: My dream is to be a nomad. I read an article one time about a retired couple who lived 3 months in France, 4 months in Germany, 6 months in Romania, 4 months in Costa Rica, 5 months here, 6 months there, etc. They didn't have a stationary home. That would be my dream. That said, I might get tired of living on the road after a while. But, I always have my family to go back and stay with for a time if I need to get grounded.
Had a nice weekend. We took a drive to the desert to see the wildflowers and did a short hike. I really like the desert landscape. I'll post some pics if I can figure out how.
Then the mister tried his hand at making pizza dough and we made some tasty pizzas. It made a MASSIVE flour-y mess (because he does nothing without making a mess), but they were good.
I will toss the leftover ingredients into a chili/stew this week. Today I will sous vide some chicken breasts for various purposes throughout the week.
I have not weighed myself in a month. I am afraid to. As you can read, I have not been good about laying off the white carbs. I have been exercising and even adding in extra walking; just not counting and tracking so much. Eventually, I will step on the scale, but I keep hoping my clothes will magically start fitting better. It's not a strategy to set me up for success.

Oh Rita. That is horrible. And to be immobile for so long with no one doing anything. I hate that for you. There should be an unspoken rule that if someone is sprawled out on the floor and can't respond to basic questions, EMS should be called immediately.
We had a patio installed this weekend in what was quickly becoming an unsightly and messy mud pit. No grass would grow there. Now it is beautiful, clean, and functional. Very happy. (Photobomb of Harley.)

Rita- That had to be very scary. Glad you eventually got to the ER. Please take care.
Heather - hope you find out what is going on and some relief from the pain.
I had a wonderful day yesterday. Went to church and then with friends to the Seattle Symphony. It was a really good program and very relaxing to be away from home and not even think about our troublesome tenant. We used the lightrail train to go downtown. It has a stop that puts you right across the street from Benaroya Hall. This was my first time using the lightrail so I learned something new, how to navigate the system.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA8 -
Morning ladies,
Ginny - hope the basement guy plans to follow state and/or federal guidelines. I agree with the others, seems like not removing asbestos is what they are advising in most cases. Something not right with these guys.
I'm back to house walking again, at a decent pace this time and no zipping in and out of doorways at top speed like I was doing. Foot seems fine with it.
Machka - I haven't had the glucose tolerance test. Interesting phone chat with my SIL in Indiana yesterday who has been in and out of prediabetes for a decade. She said stress - from pain, for example, can put a person into prediabetes, and there's a chance the stress from my foot pain was being reflected in that A1C. That happened to her when she hurt her shoulder. I'll ask Dr. Lisa about that on Thursday.
SIL said they are preparing for their town will be a mob scene on April 8th, they are on the edge of the eclipse path of totality.
Joy - those dishes sound beautiful, you'll have a very nice Easter dinner with the family. Good job with the walking.
Rosemarie - hope you don't have to decide right away if you'll need to sell and move, I know what you mean with the memories still there. I'm not ready to let go of some of them either, but hopefully in a year or two I'll be closer. You have time to figure out your budget and do some planning. Are there 55+ places that you'd consider moving to at some point?
After my DH died, I removed the hard drive from an old laptop and CPU and took them in for recycling. I have one more to go which doesn't have a lot of memory and is still Windows XP. Time for it to go. That and his huge computer desk that takes up a lot of our office space, don't think I'll ever use it.
Rita - Oh my word! Glad are you home from the hospital, what a scary scary thing. Does your DH understand that he should have been quicker to respond?
Machka - sounds like your new dentist is very thorough. It will be good to have that crown replaced for a while. So far I've been real lucky with only needing a small filling in the past 5 years or so crossing fingers I don't have a lot of tooth problems hitting all at once.
Heather - glad your phone call with the consultant went OK. Good to get that out of the way and on to the next step.
Flea - gorgeous new patio blocks. What a great idea. Nice seeing you pop in!
I didn't sleep real well last night and dragging a little today.
I did make it to the computer store this morning and came home with a new Dell laptop.
It's Windows 10 - the tech said he likes that better than 11. We chatted a minute about my McAfee problem with Staples, and he said there's already a good anti-virus that comes with Windows - Defender. Just uninstall the McAfee and Defender will automatically take over. I wondered about that since DH had Security Essentials (the old version of Defender) on our old machines plus Malwarebytes, and we never had a problem. It will at least buy me some time as I test everything out.
There are plenty of tutorials on setting up computers and all of the various Windows functions on Youtube, I can check them out and take my time. And if something goes haywire, I just take it back to the shop.
Have a great week.

MFP Weekly Check-in March 25, 2024
Debbie in Napa Valley, CA - LOTS of walking this week(just over 18,000 steps one day, over 15,000 two or three days) Weight down slightly at 153.2
Kylia in Ohio - Good Morning! My scale said down a pound on Saturday! I was super excited when it still said -1 this morning! I am excited as this last 10 is hard to lose, but at the same time, not concentrating on that at this moment in my life. Just trying to figure out eating better. Lifestyle choices to make this roller coaster stop! Have a great week!
Rita from Roswell, NM - Down 1 pound from last week.
Evie from Vancouver BC - I’m up a bit from 2 weeks ago, but down more than a bit from last week. Just realized why I felt so down on Sat, it was the death versary of my dear, dear friend. It’s been 20 years but I miss her like it was yesterday. But onward and upward!
Sue in WA State - Made it to water exercise 2 times again this week. Yoga 7/7 times. Strength and balance 5/5 times. Didn't get walking done. Weight currently at 222 lb. Need to keep working on walking longer. I get short of breath very easily. Pulmonologist wants me to work up slowly.
Lanette SW WA State – Celebrating weight staying in desired range, foot feeling much better after cutting back on steps for a couple weeks. Navigating low carb eating plan (below 100 net carbs), no snacking between meals, cutting out added sugar, processed foods & “white carbs”. Working with my doc to get glucose/insulin resistance under control.

My father was in the Coast Guard when I was growing up so we rented the houses we lived in since we'd be somewhere for only two years at a time. When my dad retired, it was a great milestone for my parents and they bought a house that they planned as their forever house. They were both almost 50 years old at the time. They lived in that house until they died and Jake and I moved in so we had several years to go through their things. Owning a home is important to me. If we went looking for the "perfect " house, our ship would never leave the dock. We like where we are now

Desert wildflowers. Honestly, pictures don't even come close to capturing these.
Tina in CAThis is an ocotillo, from what I am told. There are red flowers at the top. I like the contrast between the blue sky and the desert landscape.
These little pink flowers pop out from everywhere. I like how they just appear in the sand.
Lots of colors here.8 -

Bathrooms - with the exception of about 10 months when we first moved to Tasmania, we've always had just one bathroom. During that 10 months, the place had an additional toilet, and when I say toilet, I do mean just the toilet. My ex and I only had 1 bathroom and a teensy-tiny one at that.
I'm not quite sure what I'd do with 2 of the things! I'm not sure if it would be a luxury or just another bathroom to clean.
One thing I want is a North American style bathroom with the toilet IN the bathroom instead of the Australian style with the toilet in a separate room somewhere else in the house.
WOW ... that seems like a remarkably low price!

I couldn't imagine NOT having two bathrooms- with dh being in the master bath for about an hour every morning, there are mornings where I would not make it if I had to wait for him to get done.
When son's girlfriend stays over, she uses the other bathroom and takes a long time- On those occasions, I wish I had 3!! I make sure to get up a bit earlier than Rovin if she has stayed over.

Well folks, I went to see the surgeon at the private hospital and he was very down to earth, nice, and encouraging. He found my X-rays on the system, and agreed that I need both hips done ASAP. He will write a letter for me to cancel the next cruise, but there is a chance I could be mobile by the October one. He was optimistic about the recovery rate. It's a push, but possible.
So he will set the date for the first hip in a couple of months. My son may have to rearrange his minding for his holiday, but we don't know yet. Amazing to see it all coming together.......at a price!
But I can’t suffer, for years, maybe.
John has at last come through, now he has a plan. He really wants me to be well and happy.
I feel sooooooo relieved.
Thank you all for your concern and good wishes. It really helps.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx8 -
Terri--Sorry about your fall. Glad you are ok.
Ginny--I find it concerning about that basement crew and the jack hammering with asbestos. I would get a second opion for sure. I see alot agree, it sounds so scary to me.
Tracey--I am taking all my pictures out of albuns and putting in pricture boxes. I had almost 50 albuns (45 years) plus my family growing up and I have them in 20 boxes. Takes up so much less room.
Rita--That is so scary. The fact you laid there so long really scares me. I do praay you are doing better. I also agree that 911 should of been called when they first found you on the floor. I pray it doesn't happen again, but if so they get help sooner.
Flea--Love the new patio. Looks so nice and clean.
Lanette--Sounds like a good plan with the computer. Taking your time and figuring it out as you go.
Heather--Glad you had a good appointment. Sorry about your travel plans having to be post phoned
It was a nice weekend, went by too fast. We rented a car to go to Omaha and know we would never want a rouge. Sounds like my car should be done this week.
We are back to winter weather. It rained last night, with lots of wind, lighting and thunder. Woke up to a couple inches of snow. Sounds like it is to keep up until in the morning. Glad I am going straight home after work. Also I want to say that doctors and pharmacist that think they are better than anyone else piss me off. Had one this morning have a melt down because he had to use a different sleep room with the storm and other employees staying. What a baby. I find dealing with them harder than any other dept.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE4 -
Heather so glad you have a diagnosis and a plan.
Annie in Delaware2 -
Heather ... very glad to read that you have finally been heard by a surgeon and have a diagnosis and a plan. Never doubted for a moment that John would be right beside you. My very good friend had both hips done at once and did amazingly well and recovered in record time. She was determined. I think you will be too.
Rita ... what a horrific experience. I would really want to talk to my doctors and see if there might have been any other culprit than anxiety. Not to minimize anxiety by any means ... my son loses the ability to breathe and nearly passes out with it ... but your experience deserves a second look.

Heather - So pleased both the surgeon and John have come through. Must feel like a massive weight's been lifted! Now it's time to do everything you can to make sure you're ready and healthy on the day of surgery and follow the protocols to the letter. Every bit of exercise you can stand to do in between now and then will help speed that recovery enormously. And I think an October cruise is a great goal to work toward to make sure you're mobile by then.
Tina - The pictures are gorgeous, and no, it's not possible to do these eye-popping colors justice on a computer screen. I don't miss the desert, but I remember the flowers quite fondly.
Flea - Love the patio!
Allie - Hope everything works for the best for your Tracy. You're wise not to take on her stress, you certainly have enough of your own.
Terri - Keep forgetting to say I'm glad the fall wasn't too traumatic. Hope there haven't been any issues since.
Got an entire large postal box filled with photographs and scrapbook pages in the mail to my daughter. It's a good thing they're by the box and not charged by the weight - it was a LOT. I don't think she really knew what she was getting herself in for. The rest have been shoved into a box marked "burn in April 2025" in the storage room, and as long as I haven't gotten in there a dozen times looking for something, I'm reasonably sure it won't be an issue at all.
Just finished making a Mexican coleslaw for Corey's dinner - I picked up a tricolor coleslaw mix the other day, and used about half of it. I'm really pleased with it, and I think he's going to love it. Only took 15 minutes or so to put it all together. And I use light mayo and light sour cream, so the calories are about a third less than they would have been.
Got a set of clock kits in with movements, numbers, and hands, in order to make a couple clocks. Corey and I went looking for clocks for the sunroom, and it turns out we have extremely expensive tastes, ones that neither one of us are willing to shell out the money for, thank goodness. However, I have a couple ideas in mind to create a painting that will then become a clock. And enough pre-stretched canvas to make a couple tries at it. I need one in my craft room anyway, so we will see how it turns out...
Apparently I'll do anything as long as I don't have to actually make the quilt I'm supposed to be making.
Finally stopped raining.
Laters!
Love,

And occasionally I will run Malwarebytes.
Like I said, I uninstalled McAfee and let Windows 11 defend itself.
Go for a glucose tolerance test and then you'll know if you are prediabetic or not.

Let's try again for next Monday - send me your info any time this week and I'll grab it for next Monday's thread.

Rita That is so scary! I too can't believe 911 wasn't called sooner. I am glad that you are feeling better and getting checked out!
Heather Sounds like wheels in motion. I know it goes against your beliefsto chose private care, but think in this case it is appropriate! Sorry you will have to cancel a cruise, but i cant inagine you enjoying it in that much pain.
Crazy and stupid busy at work today! I have work to do but wanted to relax with y'all for a moment.
Off to work I go!
Lots of love,
