March's Exercise

I may do something in the garden this afternoon but I haven't been well the last few days so we'll see how that goes. Infection around the tooth that lost the crown I think.

Nevertheless, March was a decent month for exercise!

Today was a bagel with cream cheese and strawberries, my new latest obsession. Dinner was chicken teriyaki, rice a roni fried rice, with green beans & bacon. Of course that made dishes for me to do. Joy.😂😁
We watched "The Last Samurai" with Tom Cruise for dinnertime. One of the few movies I like him in. Of course, "Mission Impossible" movies are good, but I only really watch to see all the stunts he does, not really for his acting.

I have CHF only way I found out was I was short of breath and a chest xray ,boy was it a shock and then it ran the gammet,angiogram, echocardiogram and the lot.. sheesh..but im here to tell the story.. so there ya go.. cant sleep.. and its 11:45 pm..no nap..did do laundry and got the garbage together..

Well it's past midnight and I finally got my dad into bed. He really can barely hobble around with the cane and my help. Tomorrow I think it will be worse. We might try some ice if I can get him to agree. But first we have to get him through the night. I thought he usually gets up in the night, but he won't be going far. Chances of him falling again are pretty high because he can't wrap his mind around his limitations. Not much I can do about that. And he says he feels like an old cripple. I told him he should feel better in a week but tomorrow is going to be hard. We have a walker he could try. At least he gave up on going to church.

So I guess I am on nursing duty tomorrow. At least he is pleasant to me. He has said ten times today that he is grateful to have me here.

I better get some sleep.

Rita: I am glad you are researching the gamut of alternatives for relieving your anxiety. I'll be sending you peaceful thoughts as I do my deep breathing practices.

Heather: I am glad you have found, and can afford, what sounds like superb medical care for your hips. I am deeply connected to my cat Mars, especially when he is laying on me purring. It's a healing vibration I equate to Reiki.

April: Sending you strength and hugs.

Pip: Sympathy on loss of your mom.

Michele: I'm sorry to hear about your beautiful Loki.

Ditto what others have said about grief. I learned this the hard way. A couple days ago I learned about a friend and former colleague's passing. She was a lovely person who recently retired, but contacted cancer and went before being able to truly enjoy this new chapter. It set me off. Found myself grieving so many other losses that I have been a sniveling mess for last 2 days. Took today as a duvet day. The sadness is wearing off and I feel more like myself now. Grateful. Healthy. Ridiculously lucky.

Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Heather - I’m happy to read that you had a better night.
I had a miserable night again, but my house is mostly clean. 😂
I am going to have to think about your question. I haven’t been feeling very connected at all to Rodger for the last while, I need to figure out why.

Machka - Yes I am waiting to get a new pillow on payday. I think that’s part of it.

Lisa - Hugs are the best. I’ve seen some things about women needing hugs for both their physical and mental health. I’ve never researched what I’ve read, but it sounds good.
Is Country Girl Yoga on YouTube or you doing yoga while listening to country?

Rita - I hope you are able to find some relief soon. It was nice you had a chance to talk to your son without interruption.

Javaplace - I’ll look into that thank you.

Barbara - I have tried that with shower curtains, I don’t even like glass ones at hotels. The only shower I haven’t felt claustrophobic in was in a Flying J truck stop when on the road with DH years ago. It was the most beautiful shower very large, lots of room and light.
It’s so frightening when we lose so much at once. I had my wallet stolen out of my purse one time, terrible feeling.

Rebecca - I am hand-washing dishes right now too, such a pain! I use Glysomed hand cream.

Kylia - so nice for you to finally get a break!

Annie - That will be nice to have a break from your Dad. Is your sister coming anytime soon to help?

Rosemarie- hopefully the shortness of breath is easily cured.

Evelyn - cute cake!

Debbie - I am not cooking big Easter meal this year. My best friend comes on Thursday and everyone is coming on Saturday for a dinner. I didn’t want to do two weeks in a row.

Allie - that steak looked good. Maybe I’ll go grab steaks this week.

I do a lot of exercises for my neck and shoulders because I’ve had shoulder issues for ever. This is a different pain than what I usually have.

I took Miss Michaela home today. She was trying to question the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. She said Jonah said he’s not real, that Mom & Dad buy everything. She then looked at me and said, “I told him Mom & Dad don’t buy us this much, and you have to believe in Santa for him to come. Right Grammie? “
I agreed and told her that yes you have to believe. I have to remember to tell their mom the next time I see her without their ears around.

Rodger hung the light in the hall for me today and switched out one in the kitchen. I puttered a bit but was very tired and yet another painful night., I ended up dosing in the recliner for a while.

Off to bed now,

Rori - Lovely to hear from you.

Yes, I am fortunate, but I wish the medics would get a move on with the letters in support of my cruise insurance claim. That is paying for most of the first hip! Of course, everything stops for a four day Easter, so I'm trying to relax and not get my knickers in a twist.

I've been much more tearful lately, though they are often tears at sentimental and touching things. The goodness of people.

Evie - I LOVE your cake! I can just see my granddaughters cooing over it. The rabbit is Edie's animal, from her comforter all those years. Bea's is a monkey.

Well done on the sculpting.

Talking about connection, I had a lovely phone call with my friend L last evening. She is someone I prefer to talk to on the phone, rather than IRL. It was very comforting to chat with her about her experiences with both hip replacements. We go back to uni. She had just come back from a walking holiday with her 78 year old sister!
I would truly say that I 'love' my best friends even though I rarely see them. I am seeing G next week because she makes the effort to come regularly on the train.

I think both L and I know that we are better as a phone relationship! There is so much in the past that was ...... complicated.

Plus, I know the red wine would go down too fast. Too many memories.
Another old uni friend, my flatmate, said she would ring this week, but hasn't. I won't ring her over Easter as I would imagine she has family. We don't speak often, but, when we do, it's as if we have never been apart.
I still miss my friend Ros, who died a few years ago of breast cancer. We used to have lovely long phone chats. Real connection.

Here I don't have any close friends, but I do have family. I feel deeply connected to Edie, and can say she is the only person in this world I would die for. Does that sound strange?

My electric heat pad, that I have on at night, is a great help to me. My sleep is still broken, but I am not in pain, just discomfort. :-)

Love you all. No Easter meal, as John is out with his daughter and the roast lamb is cancelled. We will have our usual celebration of faux caviar, crême fraiche and blinis, and iberico ham, for tea. Can't think of anything better. With champagne!
I'm looking forward to eating a 'funny lunch' for my own delectation. Can't decide what to have. Refried beans? Curry Laksa? Yum! My mouth is watering.

Dad got up looking for Tylenol and was going to try the stairs himself. Geez. I did fetch the walker from the basement and he is liking that. So maybe with that he can get to the bathroom without falling. I am going to be so tired tomorrow!

Clocks have gone forward, and my Fitbit is in a tizzy 😝 It always has glitzes for a day or two with sleep and active hour’s recording on the hour change.

Looking forward to our family gathering this afternoon, especially not having to cook. Just get in the car and go 😂

DH and I are decluttering paperwork in our filing cabinets again. Gotta keep on top of that river of paper. It just keeps on flowing in! 😝

Caught dad trying the stairs again. He wanted a bowl of cereal. I got it for him. Such a nuisance because his hearing aids are in the charger. So he can't hear a thing I say. Maybe now he will sleep.

I have dyed my hair somewhat closer to a slightly lighter version of what I think my natural colour might be, and then put some blonde streaks in. I like it! We'll see if it does what I want it to do.

I've been going grey since I was in my 30s, but lately as my hair has been growing out, I have noticed that there is even more grey! So much so that I am actually entertaining the idea of growing it out and seeing what it looks like. I'm kind of curious if it is white, silver, steel or just something that looks dull brown.

In order to do that and not have it look really obvious that my roots need doing, I figured I'd get my hair back closer to what it was. And maybe the blonde streaks will blend with the grey bits.

If it isn't dogs barking endlessly in this neighbourhood, it's the neighbour a few doors down who has decided to annoy the whole neighbourhood with his radio or TV.

He dislikes us all and has started fights with a neighbour on one side of him, which have ended up involving other neighbours ... the police have even been called. This has been going on for at least a couple years.

Now he has decided to have the radio or TV going full blast. It's quieter during the day, but gets quite loud in the evenings. We can no longer sit in our new patio area in the evening because it is too noisy. We developed the new patio area because the old patio area was too close to another neighbour's dog who would not stop barking and growling at us.

The police have been called to check on him ... to see if he was still alive and to offer a suggestion that he might turn the noise down. It quieted for a couple days, but it has been back for 2 or 3 weeks now.

Getting a bit weary of it all.

Silence is golden!! And much desired.

Very thankful I will be seeing the dentist next on Tuesday. Very sore jaw.

Annie-you do have your hands full with your father. It is too bad you had a two story house.

Heather-right now I am not certain about connectedness with others. I know when I walk I feel connected to what is around me and myself. Will have to consider more.

Tracey-glad you had good time with grands. Neck pain can be horrible.

Good morning ladies. Have been reading and thinking. Rori summed it up nicely for me I think. I' m grieving for a number of things.

A longtime friend passed. We had not connected in recent years since my husband died. She was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer 7 years ago and I went through my surgeries. They told her she was cured. It came back with vengeance and took her very quickly During the pandemic I could see some of her views changing-she was moving very much to the right on everything. It was best for my peace of mind not to engage but rather remember our friendship. I have spent several days processing that and other losses. I did go to visitation yesterday and talked to her husband. Came home and went to funeral website and planted a tree. I am grateful for the years we had as true friends. So I had my own form of a duvet day.

Haven't heard from youngest son and family. A bit of a tiff on me not wanting to drive 7 hours to attend one of their friend's wedding so I can be nanny while they party (we would also be staying in separate places. Sometimes we have to stand up for ourselves.

I am going to 8:30 church service then will get a short walk in. Arthritis kicked up due to rain. Walked 3 miles yesterday and I think that was a bit much right now. Did not do my stretches yesterday and that really does make a difference.

Will spend much of the day finishing some work projects. Didn't feel up to it yesterday but this morning my head feels much clearer. Thanks for listening to my woes,

Tracey maybe stuffing some pillows around you will help you change to a new sleeping position until your neck and shoulder pains ease? Much as I dislike ice packs, one really helped me sleep when my shoulder first started hurting.
Rosemarie concerned that your shortness of breath lasted for hours. While huffing and puffing during exercise is good and the way fat leaves the body, breathing should return to normal soon after stopping exercise. Please call your Dr?
Linda congrats on taking off the two pounds and more importantly for encouraging your son Tim to get up and move outside. Bravissima!
Rita will keep you in thoughts and prayers.

Good morning ladies!

Well I was chatty last night, so not much else to say this morning. Other than Happy Easter! I'm told the word Easter is a corruption of Oestre, meaning egg. As in a festival to celebrate Spring and the chickens return to laying eggs after the darkness of winter. Yay for more daylight!

Annie - so very sorry to hear of the sudden complications with your dad. Thankful he can still get around but worrisome for you. Good to hear you have a reunion planned later in the year, crossing fingers the stars line up and you can make it. You deserve it.

Hope you can catch up on sleep today.

Heather - glad to hear the heat is helping. Nice that John can spend time with his daughter. Always love to see what you two and the grands are painting these days.

Tracey - if I had a magic wand I'd teleport over to your house and wave it over your neck. Hate that the pain is interfering with your life right now. Wonder if it might be worth it to go see your new doctor - he might have some suggestions?

Bunny Story -

a bunny (hopefully not the Easter bunny!) bit the dust at my house a couple days ago. Found him under the bird feeder with his head and a leg missing. I'm pretty sure if was the work of a cat - a big one, maybe a bobcat? This was a full grown rabbit.

Anyhow I grabbed what was left of him and heaved it over the fence into my front yard, figuring one of the many scavengers would finish up what's left. Didn't want Rosie to get involved with his remains.

Later in the day, I noticed my next door neighbors standing in their driveway, pointing and staring in the bunny's direction.

My phone rang. It was the wife. When I answered she asked if I knew there was a flock of vultures in the tree next to the house (overlooking bunny) and several flying over the house. I peeked out the window. Sure enough, it was the first time I'd ever seen turkey vultures up close. Pink heads and necks. I thought how fascinated my DH would have been, he was such a bird watcher.

I stepped out on the deck and the ones in the tree took off but there were still several swirling over the house.

The vultures never landed but soon a couple large ravens appeared and finished up most of what was left. I had never seen THEM up close either. Easily twice the size of crows.

Sending hugs and healing thoughts to all of you who are grieving for lost and ill family members and friends. And those of us going through physical problems right now too. I think there's grief with that.

I remind myself that it's OK to have a good cry if I need it. Get it out of the way to let some joy in. WOW that morning coffee is lighting me up, lol.

Beth - What a lovely compliment, thank you! I try not to get too floofy about Corey, but on occasion, I do.

Barbara, Tracey and Rosemarie - Country Girl Yoga is just me doing my very modified yoga to country music. More on the subject, with link and diagrams:

Many of my beginning yoga moves began from this link here on MFP. You'll find the halfway lift there. The only one of those I don't do is the chaturanga, and that's because every time I try, I fall on my b👀bs, and I hate that. I added the tree pose to improve my balance.

I added in the balasana:

the stretches that Machka mentioned, plus a couple more, as I went along. My overall was to simply try to find the poses and stretches that use my entire body, made sense and helped me do these things in order, so I was moving from one pose to another reasonably gracefully to get down to the floor and then to get back up again.

The hamstring stretches and the music added just mean that, while I'm in the pose, I'm either lifting my heels or my toes to work the muscles of my legs. Bluntly, I added the music as well as the stretches to each of the yoga poses because I find yoga boring as all get out. Eventually I may bump the number of seconds up in each pose, but like everything else, I'll do it slowly, adding a few seconds at a time. Here's the list again, so you don't have to go looking:

Lanette - Not sure it's good for the faint of heart, but those small deaths are part of the overall life here on our middle USA wild kingdom too. We saw LOTS of turkey buzzards in West Texas, they loved the old windmill frames that were left behind when the blades were reclaimed for the metal, and there were a few near the ranch manager's house where we lived. Oddly enough, the first ravens we've seen have showed up here this year, as well. They are HUGE! They just seem to soak up any color near them into that incredible shiny blackness. Amazing to watch.

Rori - Glad to see you, hope your afternoon game is fun to work. I'm sorry about the losses you've suffered. Ginny, that's for you, too. I think a little survivor's guilt gets wound up in all these things, as well. Why do we survive when someone else doesn't? It's all a tangle, and I think the tears are the best and quickest way to wash it through.

Didn't mean to go on forever, but Corey's sleeping in this morning, so I had a little more time to focus on y'all. Egg is now crying at the bedroom door (and impossible to shoo away once she's decided it's time for him to get up), so he'll be up soon... Yep, the door just opened.
