Lisa - good for you getting the brick work done.

I bet it looks just fine. Sounds like Corey was in high gear throwing things in the dumpster - spring cleaning at its finest. Crossing fingers the Skyrizi does the trick - I was happy to hear the VA finally got all the ducks lined up for you. Did they ever send you that cream?

I used it for a while several years ago and let the prescription run out - it was suddenly hard to get and the price was sky high. For Gyn health, it's probably a good idea. Will ask Dr. Lisa about getting back on it.

Barbara - Thank you, I will check out Firefox. We had it on one of the machines years ago and it was fine. The scanner solution on Windows 11 will likely be to get another printer - the one I have right now is probably 5 years old. Ancient in the technology world. It's so neat the way these new laptops search for the wireless printer and install it automatically so quickly. Just had to put in the modem password and it took care of the rest. Nice change from having to install drivers. Kids these days probably don't know what that means, lol.

Michele - I hear you on the sciatica. I wonder if I'm due for another prednisone pack. Luckily after a few hours it's a lot better but when I first get up it's bothersome. Next week I'm back to mattress shopping, hopefully that will help. Glad to hear Vince is getting walking in. Enjoy your pool!

Debbie - I keep forgetting to mention that I'm envious you are able to start seeds in a sunny window environment. They get leggy so quickly at my house, they are ruined. As soon as my tomato seeds sprout they go right under a fluorescent fixture with the bulb about 1" from them and a heat mat underneath on a shelf in the garage. That's the only way I can keep them under control and growing roots in my cold house. Now that they are in the greenhouse, they are doing OK, slowly coming out of suspended animation. I stuck chopsticks into the 4" pots that I'll tie the 'maters to when they start putting on more size. I started some Glacier tomatoes this year - a cold weather early variety, anxious to see how they do.

Faucet stuff:

This afternoon I went online to find a replacement faucet for the main bathroom, thinking I could pick one up at H Depot. The old Moen fixture is so stiff, feels like something let loose a while back. It still shuts off and doesn't drip. Yet. I couldn't figure out what size of a faucet would fit that hole so went onto YouTube. Discovered I don't need a new faucet at all, there's a replacement cartridge a person with some good tools can install, and there are a couple excellent videos showing exactly how it's done. $25 and maybe 15 minutes unless there's trouble. (Ginny- didn't you replace a faucet not long ago?)

I'm going to pick up a cartridge and have Roger on stand-by. Actually, when I get ready to do it, I'll email Mrs. Roger and let her know what I'm up to and that I MIGHT need Roger to bail me out. Unless he's busy, he'll probably zip over with his tool chest and tell me to get out of the way. I'm hoping.

Alex the landscaper stopped by this morning to get paid for the work his crew did here yesterday. I got THREE hugs! His fiancé was sitting in the car

. I wonder if he hugs all the old ladies to get return business? Well, it's working.

Email this morning from my sis in Indiana regarding a visit

- she and her hub plan to fly out to Portland this July, rent a car and drive up to Seattle to visit their kids. They will stop in here on the way to spend the night. Now I'm starting to get nervous because Rotten Rosie isn't used to having other people in the house and will probably bark if she hears them stirring. Luckily I have time to take her to the vet and see if there are tranquilizers to calm her down or if I should give her a double dose of CBD treats. There's also a doggie hotel run by a different vet not far from me. It's pretty upscale - has a camera so I can watch her and see what she's up to. I've been wanting to try it out anyhow in case I need to plan a trip out of town for a couple days.

Luckily, I have time to get this figured out.

Sorry this is so long. I'm tired and ready for the bed and the hens won't be ready for another hour. They like me to go tell them good-night before they head into the coop.

More house stuff ...

The living area (lounge room, kitchen, dining, bedrooms, bathroom, laundry) of our current place is 1140 sq feet. The living area (lounge room, kitchen, dining, bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry) of the new place is about 1350 sq feet.

I think the new place also has better use of space because it has hardly any hallway. Our current place has a lot of hallway.

Oh also ... the toilets are in the bathrooms!!!! That's exciting for me because I don't like the Australian thing of having the toilet in a completely separate room.

And there are closets in all 3 bedrooms. 🙂

M – the only reason I can think that they recommend you keep animals inside during the eclipse is so that they don’t look up to see what is causing the change. I’ll be especially interested in the responses you get about the flooring. I want to get rid of the carpeting at the condo (eventually) and am thinking more on the lines of hardwood. We have carpeting right now and I constantly think of the bacteria that is in it, especially after a while. They had runners in the bathroom. Can you just imagine how gross they probably were? Years of flushing toilets and the droplets getting on the carpeting which you couldn’t wash. Well, in fairness, when it was put in they probably didn’t think of something like that.

I wanted to get a serving bowl for Jess and so ordered it at WalMart. I don’t think they have them in stock. Well, to get free pickup the order had to be at least $35 otherwise there was a $7 charge. No way was I going to pay $7 for a $10 item. So I ordered chlorinating solution for the pool which we needed anyway. Well, picked up the order today and they didn’t have it so the gal told me that they would credit my card and I should reorder it. Well, went to WalMart.com and ordered it. It should be here Mon. I did need to order a few serving bowls that I was going to get anyway but I needed to get the price up so that I wouldn’t be charged for shipping.

Looks like we’ll need a new tractor. This one is about 16 years old. I understand that an average life of a tractor is about 15 years. Is that right kylia? It was sputtering starting so Vince charged the battery. Then it made some sort of buzzing sound. He tried this and that, finally he declared that the engine was dead. So now he’s looking at other tractors. He mentioned a Murray. How is that one, Kylia, regarding things like repairs etc

Vince had to use the walk behind to cut the front lawn and the side. He was complaining about how tired he was just after cutting the front lawn, that part of it was uphill. I’ve done it, it’s really not that bad. But then again, I don’t think he has the stamina that I have.

Annie – kylia had a good suggestion to have water before going out. In addition, you can maybe have something (like popcorn) that will fill you up before you go out so you’re less likely to want to overeat

About Eva the dog Jess had. Well, she’s now at the place in SC. I have a feeling that she’ll be happier. Something like 20 acres to run around in, a quieter environment, etc.

We’ll be at the bowling alley when the eclipse starts.

We rarely go out to dinner. It can be so expensive for what you get! If I cook at home, at least I know how the food was prepared, what went into it, etc.

Annie – I usually ask them to substitute some sort of vege for the fries. I would ask for the hamburger without the bun, but that’s me. I’d ask for extra lettuce and tomato and whatever other topping they have (onions?). I don’t care for pickles

Vince is thinking that we’ll be able to get the covers off the pool tomorrow. Yippee! But he doesn’t think we can start until the afternoon when it’ll be warmer. Wonder if we’ll be able to get both of them done?

Today cut the grass, made chocolate bran muffins. Tomorrow I’ll cut up the head of cabbage for coleslaw and make the orange yogurt popsicles. I’m getting ready for the warmer weather….lol

Lisa – so happy for you that those infusions were approved. You know, maybe Vince and I can put down the flooring. Have to think on that one. What did you do about closets? I’m assuming you put the flooring in there, do you have folding doors?

Machka, so exciting news about the house! It sounds lovely and the view is fabulous! We have laminate flooring throughout, the only carpet is on the stairs for both noise and slip reduction. I like the laminate, but if our pockets had been deeper, I would have liked the vinyl plank flooring. I think it is a little more forgiving than the laminate. I don't care for carpet, too hard to keep clean, the solid surface flooring is so much easier and not such a panic if something gets spilled.
Lisa, would love to see a pic of your swoop-de-doo brickwork! Nice that Corey has decided to get rid of the yard art!
Tracey, do your grandkids have school friends nearby that they could ride with? Very unfortunate that your daughter is feeling so unwell. She's probably also feeling guilty about not being able to get the kids to school, so extra pressure/anxiety.
Rita, so happy to hear that your panic attacks were caused by a medication and therefore easier to fix! Scary stuff.

Bone scan stuff:

So, a few months ago I got a letter from our health authority informing me that I had a bone density scanned scheduled at 7:15 am on March something at a hospital that is quite a distance from me, although in all fairness, I don't know if the hospital closer to me does them. It was also ordered by a doctor who I had never heard of. Whatever, I was kind of curious about my number anyway, so off I went. Had an app't with my GP a few days ago, and the scan wasn't supposed to be me. He hadn't ordered it and was originally quite pi$$ed off (his words!) when he first heard about it as he was told "bone scan" which involves dye that could potentially harm the kidneys. He felt better about it once he realized it wasn't that, just a simple density scan. I figured I would be in good shape, but I have some bone loss, he was reluctant to use the osteopenia word, but admitted that it could be called that. No need for meds, but he suggested resistance training and walking, which I already do, but was already thinking about doing more resistance stuff, so now I have good reason. I don't know quite what happened, why I'm the one who got the letter, someone out there clearly wasn't paying attention when the request went in, but it turned into good information for me, now I know I need to do a bit more. And I need to lose weight!

My GP has been concerned about my blood pressure, it's not being well controlled by meds right now, so last time I was there he added another med, but at the lowest dose. It didn't do much, so he decided to double the dose. I started that yesterday and got some pretty amazing readings yesterday and today! Yay!! lol One more reason to lose weight tho, I would prefer to not be on this extra med. I suspect that I will always be on some medication, my mom was on meds for her blood pressure ever since I could remember so I'm thinking genetics could play a part. She did not have a weight problem.

Flooring-I have the original oak floors on in my house but I didn't want to go through mess and expense of refinish (would have to kick the cats somewhere for a couple of days, etc.) I had a decent quality floating laminate put in-that way I can use the original oak as a selling point. I am getting vinyl plank put in basement here is a month or so. I dislike carpet-I personally thing it traps too much stuff and prefer an area or throw rug strategically placed.

Machka-in U.S. a room can't be billed as a bedroom without a window that provides egress and a closet.

Kylia-our government offices closed for Monday. Main issues appear to be (in addition to all of the schools closing) concerns over traffic (which should be pretty bad over your way with 75) and internet resources. Will be interesting to see if state system stays up the whole day! And you now have me researching Warmies.

Lisa-congrats on the yard clean out beginning! Do hope new meds help.

Heather-having surgeries scheduled is a relief, I am sure. I know in some cases they are starting to do both hips at once-I'm not really sure about that! The better shape you are in the easier the recovery.

Animals and eclipse-agree with Michele-from what I read people were worried that animals would look at the sun and have eye damage. Articles I read said that animals really don't look at such things like humans do. My cats will be in the house and I won't worry too much about them looking out the window at the sun.

Lanette-I had totally new faucet put in kitchen sink. This was the first one I ever paid to get put in (except for complete kitchen remodel). As long as your pipes out of the wall are good (old houses they can corrode) it isn't a bad job-just now my old bones don' like fitting in the tight spaces and the positions required at times!)

Have been reading along but don't remember everything. Just doing my standard. Have some work stuff to do today. Want to get taxes filed (have been putting them off, I know I will have to pay this year). Going to get a workout end before church.

It would be funny/sad if they actually believed that!

About the only viable reason would be that if there are hoards of people around, the people could cause anxiety in animals or worse, people could harm animals either unintentionally (increased traffic = increase chance of free roaming animals being hit) or intentionally (weirdness around the eclipse might trigger someone to try to harm an animal like people occasionally do to black cats).

Today's organ recital:

The estradiol cream did come in, and a search through the Amazon pharmacy found it for about $30 for a 30-day supply without insurance. Does still need a prescription.

The cream has helped quite a bit with the UTI-like symptoms, irritation, and burning, and helped somewhat with the pelvic pain. Took almost five weeks to help, it's definitely not an instant fix, but is somewhat of a relief.

The key for me is that the studies show the cream does NOT impact the heart. Anything that hits the bloodstream, like the same prescription in tablet form, can impact your heart, which is really not something I need right now.

That would be because, after a lot of thought, and discussion with my husband and with my sis, I've decided to delay the installation of the Watchman until after I get the Crohn's disease to go into remission. As I said, I'm trying not to hold out any hope for myself that Skyrizi will be the answer while still (of course) hoping in the back of my mind that the third time is the charm.

I'm not good with a split focus, and I need to focus on Crohn's for a while longer. Add to that the fact that everything I'm reading says the Watchman has been studied LOTS more on men than women, and lots more on folks older than me by about ten years or more. The small amount of studies that include women shows that women have nearly double the chance of men of suffering an adverse event during placement, among some other concerns.

While I'm a good candidate in terms of the fact that my heart's in good shape, I still have enough rectal bleeding that it's a concern, and they simply won't do the placement without a significant period of time before and after with a blood thinner. I don't think that's a good idea unless and until I'm in remission from the Crohn's and the bleeding has completely stopped.

Michele - The biggest struggle for me was that the vinyl planks in the box are HEAVY! Unexpected, that. Individually, they're just fine. They were quite easy for Corey and me to install. Scoring with a razor blade allows you to snap off the length as necessary, and going under closet doors, etc. is just a matter of figuring out how to cut around corners with them. Lots of internet videos are available to teach that.

Evie and Lanette - Brickwork's like anything else I create in any way. It takes a while to grow on me, because I'm too close to it, and I think too hard about it. I always see the mistakes, not the whole. Corey has that particular turn of thought regarding his work, so we are both usually able to get the other to calm down about the whole thing long enough to accept it. I will take a picture, I promise - but today I have to get out there and wire brush it down because I spread mortar from hëll to breakfast! I never figured out how to use a trowel well, so I just used my gloved hands.

Paying for that today - they're sore as all get out!

Evie - Glad your ostopenia was caught at an early stage. I understand the doc's discomfort with it being done when he didn't order it, but after that, he needs to get over it and make sure you're OK.

Not sure what today will hold, but even though it's only just now 5 a.m. and I didn't sleep much, I do feel better than I did last night, thankfully. I'm three pounds lighter than I was yesterday, but probably two pounds of it is water and will come right back. Outside, it's already 64 degrees this morning (18C), with one tiny rain cloud spitting up on us right now. Not sure why the little ones always strike me as funny, but they do.

Corey has decided against stone pavers for his backsplash in the sunroom kitchen area, and I have a feeling we'll be looking at some tiles for those today. Wouldn't mind - want to go out and get some lottery tickets before tomorrow. The Powerball is up to $1.3 billion, and you just know that the combination of that with the eclipse is going to make people a little wack-a-doodle. I'm going to stay home - people are just too weird about all this.

Anyway... hope it is (or was) a peaceful Sunday for all...

Good morning ladies!

Thanks for the suggestions for eating out. I ate three quarters of my burger, even though it tasted very good. But I did treat myself to dessert which was pleasant. So I was over by 300 calories two days in a row. Now I will be good until Friday weigh-in and see if I can make up for it.

It was curious that I didn't feel nearly as full as I usually do after a burger, and that left me rather missing the "stuffed" feeling. I associate that with celebration and the luxury of eating out. I need to learn to feel satisfied a bit earlier somehow. It was plenty of calories, and I skipped dinner without trouble, so I must have been more full than I felt.

Lisa good job finishing the brick planter! Sorry you have to choose which health problem to address, but it sounds wise. We are all hoping this next medicine works wonders for you!

Evelyn good luck with your blood pressure. My mom thought her diet affected her blood pressure, but then mom's theory of the universe was that ultimately diet causes everything.

I'm not too excited about the eclipse. Yes it will get dark, but that happens every night. I will keep Teddy inside, but then I usually do. He likes to be near me. I'm just glad we are far enough away to not have tourists.

Original oak floors would be wonderful!!! One house we considered had them and they are gorgeous.

However, the best we can do is engineered hardwood but evidently that can look pretty good too.

I'm with you on carpet ... all carpet strikes me as dirty because it traps too much stuff, especially if a person has pets, and especially if a person doesn't have their carpets professionally cleaned every 6 months. Even if a person vacuums a lot, carpet still collects a lot of stuff every day, and there's evidence that vacuuming could make the particles of whatever's in the carpet to become airborne.

My husband and I both like to walk around in bare feet, and walking on carpet in bare feet just isn't nice. I don't like the feel of carpet on my feet and don't like thinking about all the yuck I could be walking on.

Also, both of us have asthma (to varying degrees) and I'm allergic to dust mites too. Carpets are full of dust mites and can trigger asthma issues.

I have not liked the carpet in the place we currently live but as we rent here, we couldn't do anything about it.

Fortunately the bathroom, toilet room, laundry room and kitchen here are lino. We've got rugs in the bathroom which can be tossed in the wash when we wash the towels. That's good ... I know they are reasonably clean!

From what I can gather, closets (called "built-in robes or BIRs) are a relatively new thing in bedrooms here. Older houses certainly don't have them ... you buy a wardrobe! In the old days, the wardrobes were wooden pieces of furniture. Now they are modern things which can be installed so that they almost look built in.

Our current house is slightly more modern in that it has a small closet in one room, a smaller closet in another room, and no closet in the room we use as a sleeping room. We bought a wardrobe for my clothes - a modern style wardrobe.

Vintage style wardrobes - you can find these everywhere in OP shops and Tip shops!

I have osteopenia. I had my scan relatively recently and the specialist who reviewed it didn't consider it much of a concern because it isn't so bad to be consider osteoporosis. Like for you, she encouraged me to continue walking and doing weight-bearing exercise and some resistance training.

We took two loads of this and that (garden stuff) to the house and had someone in to measure the place to give us a quote on flooring.

I'm also trying to decide on paint colour(s). I need to see them in a brighter light, but was able to rule some out.

And inspired by Lisa, I tried a little yoga. It doesn't flow very well when I have to keep referring to my paper instructions.

Hmm. My aunt just called and told me my dad got lost walking to church. It's a mile away and he's been going for twenty three years. That's so sad.

Barbara I would just be happy at this time to slow down and take 10 chews before swallowing to start!

Evelyn Over fifty years ago my dad had high blood pressure. At that time they had Doctors on staff to take care of employees. He went in and he prescribed him a pill which he took. He went in again and it was even higher, he wanted to up his pills. My dad on his own decided to change his habit of drinking tea with a good slug of TANG (artificial orange drink full of sugar). Turns out he drank it right before seeing the doctor. When he stopped drinking the TANG his blood sugar went down. He was so discussed that no one asked him about his habit and diet only wanted to prescribe him a pill that it took him a long time to return to see a doctor. No surprise that I am one that thinks how and what you eat can have a tremendous effect on your health. Other habits and environments also pay a strong influence too!

I found sugar and sleep affect my blood pressure. As I said in a different post changing my diet blood pressure has gone from 135-140 to 110-120 lower 85-90 to 76-82. Life is less stressful on the whole for me too which helps too.

I started this early this morning 😝 then forgot to finish it after my shower.

Heather: Great news about the second hip.

Machka: Great forward planning with the plants. We did the same when we moved here from our first house.

Flooring:
We have a mixture of hard floors and carpeting.
Kitchen: coated cork tiles. It’s been down for over 40 years, so could probably do with being updated.
Dining room/hall areas: parquet flooring. Easy to keep clean.
Bathrooms: redone when we renovated a while back with cushion floor vinyl. It’s warm, soft, and hard wearing.
Living areas and bedrooms: carpeted. Regularly vacuumed, and shampooed. It was industrial grade carpeting, close pile, so doesn’t hold a lot of grot. It was provided and installed by a friend who ran a company providing carpets to hotels, etc. After 42 years it still ill looks almost as good as new 😝

We had a storm pass through yesterday and overnight. My poor daffs and tulips are looking bedraggled, but will hopefully soon recover.

Yesterday our younger daughter took me out for a visit to Ikea. We do this regularly, but haven’t been for quite some time. We almost got blown away on the way to and from the car 😝 Luckily we had a trolley to hang onto. On my feet for over 2 hours, so resting up today.

We will Skype with family late afternoon.

When you say the lvp is waterproof except at the edges, do you mean at the edges of each plank or the edges of the entire floor? That is my main concern as while our dogs are housebroken, in the fullness of time they will become incontinent.

Lanette, if relatives announced that they were coming to stay over at my house and I thought the dogs wouldn't like it, I'd tell the relatives to stay at a hotel and keep my dogs at home. As you can see, I like dogs more than I like people.
