    65 years old. 5' 8". Started back in March 2023 at 85.5 kg, down from my all time highest of 100 kg (220 lb) Since participating in the last two 100 Day Challenges I'm down to 70 kg (154 lb). My aim this time is to drop another 5 kg and reach my ultimate goal weight of 65 kg (143 lb) - and keep it off for the next two years at least - hopefully forever!

    Day 01-01/01-- 70 kg. Waist 30.5 ". Hips 40 "

    Day 02-01/02-- 70.2 kg. This is like investing for retirement in the stock market. The advisor told me 30 years ago "Think long term. Don't chase high returns for quick gains - aim for slow and steady returns. Don't worry about daily fluctuations - as long as you stick with it the overall trend will be upward." Happy now I took his advice.
    Found a jar of Kalamata olives in the pantry. Delicious! but I'm trying to limit myself to 4 daily. And yes! - I already got rid of the cheese and crackers I'd normally have with them.

    Day 03-01/03-- 69.9 kg.

    Day 04-01/04-- 69.6 kg. who would've thunk there could be marshmallows in the pantry and I am only eating two per day?! Sloooowly breaking the impulse to Eat All The Goodies Quick while they're around because Lord knows when there'll be any more - food insecurity issues from childhood.

    Day 05-01/05-- 69.5 kg. Yay! Hit my 1st week goal already - just have to maintain for another two days rather than going off the rails and over celebrating with treats to reward myself for losing the weight.....

    Day 06-01/06-- 69.8 kg. I started knitting a lace scarf last month. It is very fine yarn on tiny needles, and I can only work on it in daylight. For the last 4 weeks I have been knitting 8 rows a day, and now my scarf is 22 inches long! I was feeling very proud of my progress and thinking it was a good lesson in perseverance with the weight loss plan as well. Well! so today I went to pick it up and somehow - pulled out the needle! Oh, ye knitters of the world, weep with me.....

    Day 07-01/07-- 69 kg!!! Ummm.... this maybe TMI, but has anyone ever weighed themselves, then needed to go, then felt a strong desire to weigh themselves again - to see how much they dumped? ....not to boast - but, 0.5 kg? like, over a pound? Wow.

    Day 09-01/09-- 69.2 kg. Grandma used to say "What you gain on the swings you lose on the roundabouts." I'm guessing this was originally an allusion to the old style carnival where you paid to go on the rides, but maybe the barker was also running some kind of "chance to get your money back" gambling dodge as well? Anyway, it seems appropiate to eating for weight loss - cut out a slice of bread here and lose some, drink a can of soft drink "just this once" and gain it back.

    Day 11-01/11-- 68.9 kg. I'm always hearing "eat protein for breakfast" and "breakfast like a king", but I just can't do that. A big plate of bacon and eggs always leaves me feeling uncomfortably full, weighed down and heavy. I just don't want to go for my usual morning walk, whereas a bowl of oatmeal, or a couple slices of wholewheat toast, with a piece of fruit, fills me until lunchtime, while still feeling light and active. I'm thinking there are many cultures where no, or just a light breakfast is the norm - it's really only the last 200 years in the Western world that 3 meals a day has become the norm. Even in the 60s, when I was a kid, snacking was not the usual thing - there weren't all the granola bars and cheesy chippy things we have today. I'm wondering how much of being told what we "should" eat, is actually real science based, and how much is funded by food manufacturers who want us to buy their products - how many orders for pizza delivery have been placed after seeing an ad? and deciding then "I'm too tired to cook".

    Day 13-01/13-- 69.2 kg. We are having a heat wave and it's exhausting to walk outside. Also I'm on medication which makes my skin more photo sensitive, so no to being lots in the sun. Fortunately, my appetite has decreased with the heat and I don't feel like cooking, so lots of raw fruit and veggies are on the menu.

    Day 14-01/14-- 69 kg. Some cookies and chips came ..... into my possession. "Them that asks no question, isn't told a lie. Watch the wall, my darling, while the chocolate cake goes by." So I just ate the treats (about 800 calories) and nothing else.

    Week 2 Goal: 69 kg.
    Week 2 actual weight: 69 kg. So no net loss or gain this week, but still on target.


    Day 15-01/15-- 68.8 kg. I want to knit a sweater for myself and I'm in a dither over what size to make. I know I'm 2 dress sizes smaller than I was, but I need my actual measurements. And then I need to work out how big the completed sweater will be and how much ease I want - I don't want "sweater girl" negative ease, but I don't want baggy oversize either, since I still have a little more weight to lose.

    Day 16-01/16 69.8 kg. I found a big jar of mayo at the back of the fridge......I would have taken it to the food pantry, but it was already open....spent the evening gorging on mayo and cucumber sandwiches. No, I regret nothing.--

    Day 17-01/17-- 70 kg .....Well, the rest of the mayo is gone - I hate to waste food, but, yes, it went down the sink - and the fiber in all the wholewheat bread has worked, so here's to a drop on the scale tomorrow.

    Day 18-01/18-- 69 kg. Hopefully back on track.

    Day 19-01/19-- 70 kg. Is it the scale or is it me not being super careful over tracking? I am perflummoxedcombobulated! Maybe my body is telling me it's happy at current weight and doesn't want to go lower?

    Day 20-01/20-- 70 kg.

    Day 21-01/21-- 69 kg. Weather has been super hot and I think I may have eaten something that's gone a bit off - been feeling unwell for the last 24 hours.

    Week 3 Goal: 68.5 kg.
    Week 3 actual weight: 69 kg. As Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow is another day."

    Day 24-01/24-- 68.4 kg. I was given a fruit cake today - a whole 500 grams (over a pound). I try very hard not to buy sweets and baked goods or keep them in the house, but free food is fair game..... I ate it all in 2 hours ..... I'm thinking with Lent approaching I need to give it up completely - at least for long enough for my taste to change.

    Day 61-03/01-- 67.2 kg. Last time I weighed this much/little was well over 20 years ago. Think I was living in another city in 2001? 2002? I was still doing karate then. Maybe I should look into Aikido, which is a softer martial art, or Tai Chi? I know one of the nearby church halls has a falls prevention exercise program for seniors which includes some Tai Chi.

    Day 62-03/02-- 67 kg. Waist 30 inches. Hips 39 inches. I'd like to lose a little more round the waist, mostly because I'm concerned about visceral fat - but I'm too old to regain the hourglass figure I had at 22!

Buried in the ice) Memorial Mass and Lecture, with unveiling of the new stained glass window. Followed by Big Supper - more than a few of us forgot we are supposed to be fasting....

    Day 73-03/13-- 66.7 kg. Back at the lowest weight I've been since back on 11/18 last year, before realising my scale was inaccurate. So really I have lost 23.8 kg (over 52 lb) in just under a year. Go me!

    Day 78-03/18-- 66.1 kg. Used an online body fat calculator that used my measurements to tell me I am 31% fat. I realise this is only an approximation and I should get it measured more accurately, but I am not happy with that amount of visceral fat still around my organs - it's deemed "normal" at my age, but what is considered "normal" isn't always healthy, at least in one's 60s. As a senior, a certain amount of allowance for degeneration sneaks in. I would like to get to 25% body fat, so I'm looking to build up some muscle, and I think I will lower my ultimate goal to 60 kg. Another 100 Day Challenge coming up!!??

My wrist is playing up which prevents me from doing much knitting which usually helps me cut back on hand to mouth snacking - cos who wants greasy fingermarks on their fabric? plus I have to get to the end of the row before I wander into the kitchen to see what's in the fridge..... I went out three separate times for a walk today to keep me out of harm's way..... and wound up having tea and a bacon sandwich at a cafe! Next time Do,Not.Take.Debit.Card.

    Day 89-03/29-- 65.2 kg. Today is the 366th day I have logged into MFP to track my food - a whole year complete with Leap Day. I have lost 20.3 kg (44.66 lb) not including the 5 kg when the scale was wrong. And my BMI is down to 22 - right slap in the middle of the healthy (or at least reduced risk) range. I call that a success. Would like to lose a little more, but not too worried if I don't hit 65 kg exactly - just hope to maintain.

    Day 90-03/30-- 65.1 kg. There was feasting - with wine! - galore after the Great Vigil tonight. Actually I was very restrained, because oddly I wasn't really hungry. People who fast regularly tell me the body gets used to it and loses the sense of hunger after a while. I only ate two egg sandwiches and a marzipan rabbit. And half a glass of red wine, which still made my head buzz a bit, so I left the celebration early. I'm hoping there's not much impact on the scale tomorrow.

    Thoughts:

    While other challenges may show bigger losses (or gains), it really depends on what date you are looking at with me because I do go up & down quite a lot, especially with my frequent required day trips. However, from Jan 1st through Dec 31st, I lost 16.0 pounds in the full year of 2023. That is what I have lost and KEPT OFF. While I am very proud of that, I know that the road ahead is long and will be a difficult one since I still have so far to go and so many health related obstacles in my way. Each 100 day round I am extremely grateful for any progress I can make, no matter how big or small. I am also grateful for all the support from all of you that I get on a daily basis. Working on my health has become my #1 priority. My main goals are to maintain my remission by staying cancer free and to keep my diabetes in control. Losing weight is key to both goals.

    Day 98-04/07-DNW-(Trend weight DNW) Due to the severe swelling in my Club Foot, I will just end my week after the next two days and give this foot and lower leg a chance to shrink back down. I started at the walk-in clinic and ended up at the hospital ER yesterday. I didn’t get home up 11:00 pm! Luckily no blood clot but there are some other concerns. As far as the foot goes, no sign of injury or trauma (a diabetic cannot always feel a puncture or injury if they’ve stepped on something etc.). They settled on diabetic neuropathy. So strange since I always thought that was Phantom pain, not real physical stuff. They are concerned about some things that showed up in my bloodwork not related to the foot so I have to follow up for that with my regular doctor. Oh Joy! Today I am ordered to spend the day with my feet up, totally resting both feet. I had X-rays, EKG, ultra-sound leg dopplers and CT scans of legs and chest with contrast dye. So today I sip lots of water to get rid of that dye. Enjoy your Sunday everyone. I’ll be finding something to binge watch.

    Day 99-04/08-DNW-(Trend weight DNW) There was no point in weighing again today. My foot and lower leg are HUGE and any weight on the scale would be incorrect anyway. I honestly would rather my losses in the near future to be real and not just all this known fluid. No chance for exercise really either which also affects the weight negatively. I am trying to do a little chair yoga on primarily my upper body or arms which is better than nothing. Mostly I’m just in bed keeping it elevated as the ER suggested. If I am unable to weight again tomorrow on the last day of this challenge, I will have to just use my last known weight as an end of challenge weight and a starting weight for the next one. On another note…. It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful slightly brisk day in northern Michigan. Have a wonderful day everyone and enjoy that eclipse for those in the path.

    65 years old. 5' 8". Started back in March 2023 at 85.5 kg, down from my all time highest of 100 kg (220 lb) Since participating in the last two 100 Day Challenges I'm down to 70 kg (154 lb). My aim this time is to drop another 5 kg and reach my ultimate goal weight of 65 kg (143 lb) - and keep it off for the next two years at least - hopefully forever!

    Day 01-01/01-- 70 kg. Waist 30.5 ". Hips 40 "

    Day 02-01/02-- 70.2 kg. This is like investing for retirement in the stock market. The advisor told me 30 years ago "Think long term. Don't chase high returns for quick gains - aim for slow and steady returns. Don't worry about daily fluctuations - as long as you stick with it the overall trend will be upward." Happy now I took his advice.
    Found a jar of Kalamata olives in the pantry. Delicious! but I'm trying to limit myself to 4 daily. And yes! - I already got rid of the cheese and crackers I'd normally have with them.

    Day 03-01/03-- 69.9 kg.

    Day 04-01/04-- 69.6 kg. who would've thunk there could be marshmallows in the pantry and I am only eating two per day?! Sloooowly breaking the impulse to Eat All The Goodies Quick while they're around because Lord knows when there'll be any more - food insecurity issues from childhood.

    Day 05-01/05-- 69.5 kg. Yay! Hit my 1st week goal already - just have to maintain for another two days rather than going off the rails and over celebrating with treats to reward myself for losing the weight.....

    Day 06-01/06-- 69.8 kg. I started knitting a lace scarf last month. It is very fine yarn on tiny needles, and I can only work on it in daylight. For the last 4 weeks I have been knitting 8 rows a day, and now my scarf is 22 inches long! I was feeling very proud of my progress and thinking it was a good lesson in perseverance with the weight loss plan as well. Well! so today I went to pick it up and somehow - pulled out the needle! Oh, ye knitters of the world, weep with me.....

    Day 07-01/07-- 69 kg!!! Ummm.... this maybe TMI, but has anyone ever weighed themselves, then needed to go, then felt a strong desire to weigh themselves again - to see how much they dumped? ....not to boast - but, 0.5 kg? like, over a pound? Wow.

    Day 08-01/08--69.8 kg.... ???

    Day 09-01/09-- 69.2 kg. Grandma used to say "What you gain on the swings you lose on the roundabouts." I'm guessing this was originally an allusion to the old style carnival where you paid to go on the rides, but maybe the barker was also running some kind of "chance to get your money back" gambling dodge as well? Anyway, it seems appropiate to eating for weight loss - cut out a slice of bread here and lose some, drink a can of soft drink "just this once" and gain it back.

    Day 11-01/11-- 68.9 kg. I'm always hearing "eat protein for breakfast" and "breakfast like a king", but I just can't do that. A big plate of bacon and eggs always leaves me feeling uncomfortably full, weighed down and heavy. I just don't want to go for my usual morning walk, whereas a bowl of oatmeal, or a couple slices of wholewheat toast, with a piece of fruit, fills me until lunchtime, while still feeling light and active. I'm thinking there are many cultures where no, or just a light breakfast is the norm - it's really only the last 200 years in the Western world that 3 meals a day has become the norm. Even in the 60s, when I was a kid, snacking was not the usual thing - there weren't all the granola bars and cheesy chippy things we have today. I'm wondering how much of being told what we "should" eat, is actually real science based, and how much is funded by food manufacturers who want us to buy their products - how many orders for pizza delivery have been placed after seeing an ad? and deciding then "I'm too tired to cook".

    Day 13-01/13-- 69.2 kg. We are having a heat wave and it's exhausting to walk outside. Also I'm on medication which makes my skin more photo sensitive, so no to being lots in the sun. Fortunately, my appetite has decreased with the heat and I don't feel like cooking, so lots of raw fruit and veggies are on the menu.

    Day 14-01/14-- 69 kg. Some cookies and chips came ..... into my possession. "Them that asks no question, isn't told a lie. Watch the wall, my darling, while the chocolate cake goes by." So I just ate the treats (about 800 calories) and nothing else.

    Week 2 Goal: 69 kg.
    Week 2 actual weight: 69 kg. So no net loss or gain this week, but still on target.


    Day 15-01/15-- 68.8 kg. I want to knit a sweater for myself and I'm in a dither over what size to make. I know I'm 2 dress sizes smaller than I was, but I need my actual measurements. And then I need to work out how big the completed sweater will be and how much ease I want - I don't want "sweater girl" negative ease, but I don't want baggy oversize either, since I still have a little more weight to lose.

    Day 16-01/16 69.8 kg. I found a big jar of mayo at the back of the fridge......I would have taken it to the food pantry, but it was already open....spent the evening gorging on mayo and cucumber sandwiches. No, I regret nothing.--

    Day 17-01/17-- 70 kg .....Well, the rest of the mayo is gone - I hate to waste food, but, yes, it went down the sink - and the fiber in all the wholewheat bread has worked, so here's to a drop on the scale tomorrow.

    Day 18-01/18-- 69 kg. Hopefully back on track.

    Day 19-01/19-- 70 kg. Is it the scale or is it me not being super careful over tracking? I am perflummoxedcombobulated! Maybe my body is telling me it's happy at current weight and doesn't want to go lower?

    Day 20-01/20-- 70 kg.

    Day 21-01/21-- 69 kg. Weather has been super hot and I think I may have eaten something that's gone a bit off - been feeling unwell for the last 24 hours.

    Week 3 Goal: 68.5 kg.

I try very hard not to buy sweets and baked goods or keep them in the house, but free food is fair game..... I ate it all in 2 hours ..... I'm thinking with Lent approaching I need to give it up completely - at least for long enough for my taste to change.

    Day 73-03/13-- 66.7 kg. Back at the lowest weight I've been since back on 11/18 last year, before realising my scale was inaccurate. So really I have lost 23.8 kg (over 52 lb) in just under a year. Go me!

    Day 78-03/18-- 66.1 kg. Used an online body fat calculator that used my measurements to tell me I am 31% fat. I realise this is only an approximation and I should get it measured more accurately, but I am not happy with that amount of visceral fat still around my organs - it's deemed "normal" at my age, but what is considered "normal" isn't always healthy, at least in one's 60s. As a senior, a certain amount of allowance for degeneration sneaks in. I would like to get to 25% body fat, so I'm looking to build up some muscle, and I think I will lower my ultimate goal to 60 kg. Another 100 Day Challenge coming up!!??

My wrist is playing up which prevents me from doing much knitting which usually helps me cut back on hand to mouth snacking - cos who wants greasy fingermarks on their fabric? plus I have to get to the end of the row before I wander into the kitchen to see what's in the fridge..... I went out three separate times for a walk today to keep me out of harm's way..... and wound up having tea and a bacon sandwich at a cafe! Next time Do,Not.Take.Debit.Card.

    Day 89-03/29-- 65.2 kg. Today is the 366th day I have logged into MFP to track my food - a whole year complete with Leap Day. I have lost 20.3 kg (44.66 lb) not including the 5 kg when the scale was wrong. And my BMI is down to 22 - right slap in the middle of the healthy (or at least reduced risk) range. I call that a success. Would like to lose a little more, but not too worried if I don't hit 65 kg exactly - just hope to maintain.

    Day 90-03/30-- 65.1 kg. There was feasting - with wine! - galore after the Great Vigil tonight. Actually I was very restrained, because oddly I wasn't really hungry. People who fast regularly tell me the body gets used to it and loses the sense of hunger after a while. I only ate two egg sandwiches and a marzipan rabbit. And half a glass of red wine, which still made my head buzz a bit, so I left the celebration early. I'm hoping there's not much impact on the scale tomorrow.

    Thoughts:

    While other challenges may show bigger losses (or gains), it really depends on what date you are looking at with me because I do go up & down quite a lot, especially with my frequent required day trips. However, from Jan 1st through Dec 31st, I lost 16.0 pounds in the full year of 2023. That is what I have lost and KEPT OFF. While I am very proud of that, I know that the road ahead is long and will be a difficult one since I still have so far to go and so many health related obstacles in my way. Each 100 day round I am extremely grateful for any progress I can make, no matter how big or small. I am also grateful for all the support from all of you that I get on a daily basis. Working on my health has become my #1 priority. My main goals are to maintain my remission by staying cancer free and to keep my diabetes in control. Losing weight is key to both goals.

    Day 99-04/08-DNW-(Trend weight DNW) There was no point in weighing again today. My foot and lower leg are HUGE and any weight on the scale would be incorrect anyway. I honestly would rather my losses in the near future to be real and not just all this known fluid. No chance for exercise really either which also affects the weight negatively. I am trying to do a little chair yoga on primarily my upper body or arms which is better than nothing. Mostly I’m just in bed keeping it elevated as the ER suggested. If I am unable to weight again tomorrow on the last day of this challenge, I will have to just use my last known weight as an end of challenge weight and a starting weight for the next one. On another note…. It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful slightly brisk day in northern Michigan. Have a wonderful day everyone and enjoy that eclipse for those in the path.

    Day 100-04/09…..(Final Weigh- In)-182.2-(trend weight 181.7) My foot is a little less swollen this morning after resting/sleeping last night. It tends to puff back up as the day goes on so I quickly weighed before the day begins. Today I am hoping to stay off of it a little more. It got pretty bad last night. I still have to call my PCP for a follow-up appointment on the foot and the wonky bloodwork. It’s a little cloudy in northern Michigan today. I think we may be expecting a little rain. In the meantime, Pebbles the cat is enjoying her first days back in her Catio outside and she is a happy camper. She got out yesterday through the big hole in the bedroom wall which was scary. You won’t be jumping through any openings in the construction area today Pebbles! This was a great round due to the hard work and commitment shown by all. No matter the back & forths on the scale, it’s the courage and strength that you have that impresses me most. See you tomorrow in the next round, my friends.     Day 90-03/30: 174.4 An early Easter dinner.

    Day 91-03/31: 176 Indulged in hot cross buns. Crazy carb craving. A few small chocolate eggs.

    Day 92- 04/01: 177.2 Continued to feel hungry, craving carbs. Gave in to cravings. Hubby bakes sourdough bread … deadly for me.

    Day 93-04/02: 177.2 Weird day, not feeling unwell but not 100% well either; ended by pulling a muscle in upper leg ??? was just moving around setting tables. Will never allow myself to regain like this.

    Day 94-04/03: 175.8 Awake much of the night. Iced thigh at 2am and awake for a couple of hours after that. Had to cancel walking plans as still limping ++; sometimes the coincidences are just too weird. Have to go back in to work today cuz forgot to do a food order yesterday. As I said, yesterday was a weird day.

    Day 95-04/04: 176 Road trip 3 ½ hrs north as driving a friend to an appt. thankfully my leg is feeling okay; aware of it but no pain. Spent evening with feet up, watching curling. Started on a new afghan but I’m doing something wrong because it’s just not working out.

    Day 96-04/05: 174.2 Whew, sweet to see 174 this morning. All my wonderful plans for a brief get-away (visiting friends, visiting the pool twice, staying overnight on my way up north for appt) next week are having to be cancelled as we have a memorial service to attend next Friday. Car also need windshield replaced as will be driving home “into the setting sun”. Ka-ching, ka-ching. Afraid to commit to walking today so will dust off stationery bike and see if my quads / hip feel okay with that. I know it's all just coincidences, but seems my recent wt loss journey has been encountering too many roadblocks.

    Day 97-04/06: 174.4

    Day 98-04/07: 175.4 ☹ Only worked part day; booked next two off. Taking a couple of days to rest and recover from various aches and pains and to allow this pulled muscle issue to heal. Need to totally focus on getting the next 3# off.

    Day 99-04/08: 173.4 Day off work; leg (pulled muscle) is feeling much better. Meals were on plan until son brought decadent dessert for dinner. Started slipping back into carb snacks later in the evening but stopped and went to bed.

    Day 100-04/09(Final Weigh- In): ¬¬174 2nd day off work; slept in. Blood pressure is way down from last week; good to see very normal numbers again. Woke to snow tho ☹ Have a full day ahead as need to catch up with two friends then hem new pants etc. Then evening out with friends to “500 Days in the Wild”, documentary of a woman’s travels on the Trans-Canada trail.

    I started a new job on 3/13 and the state walked in for annual survey my second day on the floor 😂. I apologize if my weigh ins and posting have been inconsistent but since they pulled me to help with the survey for the state, I have been working 12-18 hour days almost every day for the past 1.5 weeks. I didn’t want to quit so close to the finish line so I’m back for the final weigh in tomorrow. My most recent weight from today is not a dry weight, so hopefully when I step on the scale tomorrow I can get that last stubborn pound to go away.

    Week 9 Summary: Sleep was OK, but not nearly enough stretching. Met Strength and HIIT goals, and Steps 5 of 7. IF was easy @ 20, 21, 18, 24, 19, 22 hours so aiming for one 24 and 36 next week. Tired of dancing around 203 all month, I finally joined another gym yesterday. Having wasting so much money in the past, I just needed to prove to myself this time was different by consistently working out at home first. Now that I've done that, I feel like I'm going in circles! uuggghhhh

    So though the pool (and much needed weights!!) were my main motivators, turns out the facility is very community oriented with lots of group activities (including paint and travel), they have a Taebo room and Billy's a fan! <3 having recently added some of his workouts to my YouTube list also excited about that to the mix!
